This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
I just started my own blog and I stumbled across yours and was beyond excited to see a blog dedicated to only j. crew! J. crew is my favorite store so I will definitely put you as my daily read and tell everyone about your blog! As for shopping at J. Crew I went not long ago and saw the cutest pink dress but did not have a chance to try it on and it is not on their website so disappointing! Guess it is just an excuse for me to have to go back and get it sooner than later :)!
ReplyDeleteI recently received the 3" Chino Short in shocking pink and it is the most incredible shade of neon pink that I have ever seen. I thought the Jackie in neon azalea was neon pink but it looks almost pastel next to the saturated pink shorts. I love the bright color and can't wait to get a bit of a tan and wear these amazing shorts on the beach. Every year I swear I have more than enough shorts but J.Crew reels me in time and again. Love!
ReplyDeleteI also got the Collins Leather Platform Peep-toes and sadly these did not work out for me. I have narrow feet and the platform actually seemed to be too narrow and it looked like my foot spilled over the side although it didn't feel that way. I couldn't get over the odd look though. And unfortunately there was some messy glue oozing out where the sole was attached to the heel on one of the shoes and that was a major turnoff. I seem to be having a bit of bad luck with defective merch from J.Crew lately.

LOVE the crystal-edged cuff bracelet!
ReplyDeleteA post about it here.
Also LOVE the Bronson booties in grey colour so much, I had to get the black ones as well!
Rose, can you comment on the fit of the Bronson booties? Since the stores don't carry my size - 5H - I have to guess on the fit and it's even trickier when there's an interior platform that could make it fit smaller. I have small feet but with wide forefoot and narrow heel ;( for fitting shoes (sigh!).

ReplyDeleteIrl pics of the moonbeam sequined blazer in this post.
ReplyDeletei received a lot of things yesterday,so this will be a long review:
ReplyDeletemarissa crystal cuff:fits large, but can be adjusted carefully.stones were larger than expected for me.
crystal venus flytrap bracelet:very blingy, fits my very small wrist.love!
scallop lace shell:fits large,i sized down to xxs.i really like the ivory color and am happy with the quality.
vintage cotton foil-print tank:love, love!fits large,i sized down to xxs.
stripe button back tee:i sized down also in this one, fits short and boxy and it is very thin and some of the seams are starting to rip.i still like it though.got the olive color.
jackie cardigan:TTS love the hawthorne color, its like olive green.
HTH
mini link bracelet:fits my very small wrist and finally a gold bracelet that is not so huge.love!
Subscribing. :)
ReplyDeletetiffany rose, I wear an 8M and a very high arch and the brosons fit TTS for me, I find.
ReplyDeleteSafari shirtdress (36769) - I was shocked to find this dress to be not that short (I'm about 5'5"). It looks a lot shorter on the model shot but hit me a little above the knee. I found the fit to be a little tricky - the 4 was big all over, the 2 fit will everywhere except the middle button on the bust (and I'm not busty at all), which was a big tight. I'd definitely recommend trying 2 sizes if you can. The "antique sage" color was not the pale green on my computer, but more of a true "army green", which was a disappointment. If it goes lower in price I may get the khaki 2 and wear a tank underneath it. The SA at my store was wearing it with tall flat brown boots and the triple-buckle belt and looked great.

ReplyDeleteFinally got my order from last week's 30% off and am really happy with it. I got a tulip ruffle cami in dragonfly blue and it is beautiful; I had mixed feelings at first because its very low cut, but I have a great black lace cami to put under it and it looks perfect now :D The silk is very light and flowy - nice material. I love the stripe drawstring dress, it's going to be a great dress for running errands in the summer. Looks really cute with a long cardigan! The canvas military skirt is adorable! It's kinda stiff but I'm hoping it will loosen up - looks fabulous with a v neck tee and sandals. Finally I got the maxi-check perfect shirt in popsicle pink, very nice. The material is a very light cotton and more cream looking than white, I still really love it, but I kinda wish I had waited for it to go on sale :D Hope this is useful to someone.
ReplyDeleteSilk Utility Tee I ordered my usual size 0 in cami, and it fit well (I have broad shoulders.) The material was thin, like a slip, and clingy with static and I couldn't wait to take it off. Overall, it reminded me of a scrub top, and I couldn't think of a reason to keep it.
ReplyDelete(I did keep the Studded Cotton Cardi and LOVE it. TTS.)
I ordered the striped chambray skirt and had to
ReplyDeletereturn it. It is super short. However, it is a gorgeous little skirt. Perfectly lined in cotton, the chambray fabric is really soft. If I was in my 20's I would have kept it for certain.
I even sized up so I could pull it lower on the hips, it was no use. I am 5'7" so that's part of it.
I also ordered and returned the crosstown tee. The XS was too big by far. Maybe I'll size down and order on sale.
I got the orange ("modern red") Dorrie skirt a while back and finally got around to put pics up on my blog. You can see them here. I love this little skirt!
ReplyDeleteAlso, for those of you who wanted the Abstract Blue Sundrenched sweatshirt, it is now available again in most sizes, even though it's backordered. Nice to at least see it available vs. sold out!
Bellflower tweed pencil skirt- beautiful bright colored fabric, lightweight enough for spring and/or summer, TTS.
ReplyDeleteBronson Booties in leather- I purchased sand dune which is basically nude. Extra comfy, zipper detail on back is divine. Fits TTS.
Quorra Ballet Flats- Fit TTS. Nice material, lace up detail on back is a cute added feature, it just kinda freaks me out to look down and be able to see my toes through my shoes. Weird, but the cut-out stuff is very in this season so I'll keep them.
snaps of white leather dress: here
ReplyDeleteI ordered a perfect-fit long sleeve tee in Bavarian Blue and was a little disappointed in the true color. It's just a meh shade of robin's egg blue - somewhere between the image for the Perfect Fit 3/4 sleeve boatneck and the image for the long sleeve.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a slightly duskier, more teal color.
I also ordered a tee in the dried rose and it is lovely.
sub
ReplyDeleteOrdered my first J Crew suit and received it last week - the stretch wool blazer and pencil skirt, both in black. Also ordered the knotted twist bracelet.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually a size 2 in J crew blazers and skirts, and the blazer is just lovely. Nice wool, high quality and fits perfectly. The skirt is a disaster though - way too tight around the hips and massive at the waist. It also has seams that sort of curve around your side (super hard to explain!) which makes it difficult to alter. Unfortunately, this was final sale so no returns, and it's costing around $70 to get fixed. I would size up in the skirt, but stay true to size in the blazer.
The knotted twist bracelet is really pretty, but shoddy quality. When I received it I went to pull the sticky tag off and it immediately broke the clasp. I fixed it easily with pliers but it was still frustrating. Looks nice on, but twists around so that the knot part is under my wrist, which gets in the way when I type. Wouldn't recommend this one!
RAAAAARRRR! Toothpick jeans in last call wash run SMALL! I can usually the same size in these across the board, but this particular version is TEENY. My 31's will easily fit a 30 or even 29. I could barely even get my calf in. *grumblegrumble*
ReplyDeleteGot my Coddington suede platform pumps last night. They're perfect. Love them. I wrote more last night in the prior Reviews thread. Just want to mention here that even though this is a winter shoe it's very suitable for spring. The cobblestone color is light and the suede is cropped almost smooth. Very nice shoe and the cobblestone might be a good alternative to a nude.
ReplyDeletexoxo, I feel bad for you that you got a defective pair of Collins. I have them in mink and they're quite perfect. But if they aren't fitting you too, there's not much you can do about that. I have a medium-width foot and I have no problem with the width of the platform. My only issue is that the upper strap over the top of the foot (instep?) is a tad snug, but the Lindys are like that too. So I guess the best advice for these shoes is: if you haven't tried them on in the store, buy them before they go on final sale.
Also in the prior Reviews thread I wrote last night about the Factory linen-cotton slub cardigans. I love them. They're TTS and nicely made. They'll make a great spring-summer cardi, the knit is airy without being sheer.

ReplyDeleteMaritime stripe v-neck dress - tried this in my regular size and it ran a bit large but not enoguh for me to want to size down. Thick slub cotton. It looked on me pretty much the same as on the model in the website pic. I can see that the pockets are executed kind of awkwardly, though, since they do not sit on a side seam and just kind of float like little bags at the hips, if that makes any sense.
ReplyDeleteKatie eyelet cami - tried on in store. Fit is TTS in my regular jacket/top/perfect fit button down size. I think the straps run a tiny bit long. This top is really nice and manages NOT to look maternity despite the empire waistline. I do think it is overpriced for what it is, so it was a pass for me. I also don't really think you could wear a regular bra with this without it being obvious.
Blythe blouse - LOVE. I did not think this would work on me since I am tall and usually prefer tall blouses. But it fit perfectly in my regular shirt size. I think it is very flattering and I love the ruching along the shoulder seams in front and across the back.
Crosstown tee - hot mess. The armholes are HUGE! The v neck is way too wide and deep in my regular knit top size. The fabric felt cheap. This was a pass for me, even at the $19.99 sale price.
Cecilia dress - tried this in the retro orange. It's a beautiful dress and a great length on me - right at the knee or slightly below. I love how feminine it is. It's 100% cotton which would make it great on a hot summer day. I think this shape would flatter most body types.
I also checked out but did not try on:
-sun-drenched sweatshirt - this was a pass for me. I just did not find anything special about it.
-lace-over cami - I found one in the sale section of my store but did not see another one throughout the whole store. It was not my size so I didn't try it on. I thought the execution was really nice, nicer than I expected.
I went yesterday to B&M to make some returns and I was happy to see two big sale sections. Quite few colors of Jackie Cardigans were on sale. Belts, jeans, and some of those eyelet shirts as well.
ReplyDeleteThere were also some new arrivals. It seems like next month will have a lot of oranges, and that brick color that I am not so crazy about :(. I prefer soft pastels.
I also received one of my 30% orders yesterday.
I got Belinda dress (size 0, charcoal). It fits very nicely. Dress has a build in bra, and the zipper outside is covered up with a fabric. I do not like that color though. Between dark gray color and cotton fabric it just look kind of old and used up. Next time there is 30 or 40% off and it appears in that bright oink color, I will definitely go for it.
tamara, I bought the Collins platforms in mink too, I love the color. The platform doesn't feel like it is too narrow, it just looks that way when I have the shoes on, very odd and I can't get over it even if I had a pair without the glue on the heel. I also noticed that if you zoom in on the mink version online you can see the heel lift isn't fully on or something, there is a gap between the lift and the sole material. How bad is that?! Glad these worked for you. I keep trying J.Crew shoes and never seem to learn that they very seldom meet my expectations.
ReplyDeleteSilver Lining - does the elastic waistband hit at your actual waist or is it up higher? Many tia.
ReplyDeleteHi IRL - I'd say it hit right at my natural waist (I'm pretty short-torsoed). If you have a longer torso it might be a little more Empire-waisted.
ReplyDeleteSub!
ReplyDeleteHi Silver Lining, definitely not long waisted so hopefully it would hit at the waist for me too. Thanks again!

ReplyDeleteLetour Floral Lucinda Dress
ReplyDeleteIt runs huge. I'd say size down one size for sure. I ended up with a 2, which is two sizes down from my normal size... but they didn't have a 4 for me to try.
This dress is awesome if you have a chest or are just generally curvy. I am not curvy really but I do have a chest big enough that 99% of J.Crew strapless dresses are out of the question, if you know what I mean. The dress looks pretty terrible on the model, because it just hangs like a sack... and frankly looks a bit laura ingalls. It is slimming and flattering IRL, and not nearly as precious as it looks online. Highly recommend. Oh, and it was only $49.99 in store. I couldn't resist. Perfect now with boots and leggings, perfect later with a nice pair of sandals. I wish I could post IRL pics because the model does not do it justice.
xoxo, after reading your post I had to grab my Collins and give them a better inspection. I am not kidding when I say that I grabbed my magnifying glass. :) And I scrutinized the web pics too, I see exactly what you're talking about. One of my Collins has a slight bit of glue on the inside where that heel cap is attached to the heel. I never noticed that before. I probably won't do anything about it. Otherwise I see no flaws. I think I'd better check my other shoes though. :) Also, when I put my Collins on I see what you are talking about regarding width, the shoe part does extend slightly over the platform. You don't like how that looks? I'm not bothered by it, but now I'm curious! I'll have to try on my other platforms (not just J Crew but other brands) to see if that happens.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny but I've got this really bad J Crew shoe addiction now. Dare I reveal how many shoes I've bought in the past couple of months? Eeek. (struggling) 8. I'm actually hoping that something will happen to turn me off. :) Last night I was actually hoping that I wouldn't like the Coddingtons, but I love them. I love all of them. Helllllp mmeeeeee. :)
pathos, I got the Toothpicks in Bliss Wash as well, and I thought they ran TTS. ...
ReplyDeletetamara, I used to like J.Crew shoes quite a bit and not to sound like a broken record as it has been said many times before but the quality has really slipped the past few years. The designs are often beautiful though, I can understand why you would love them. To answer your question, no, I do not like the look of the top extending over the platform. IMO it appears as though I have wide feet, which I do not.
ReplyDeleteFor reasonably-priced shoes I am a fan of Chie Mihara and their quality is really evident so I have high expectations that J.Crew just doesn't meet. I don't mind paying for quality but I hate buying anything substandard no matter what the price. Whether it's $100 or $1000 the money can only be spent once after all, so it better be good.
I purchased the lunette mini in navy in the store yesterday ($29.99 as opposed to $69.90 online). They only had a size 6 (I am a usual size 4 in skirts) but the 6 allowed me to wear it a little lower on my waist so it wasn't as short. Its beautiful in person - the material is very rich looking and the grosgrain ribbon detail really adds to the quality look. It is a very structured skirt and does puff out a bit in front, but I like that look with the length of the skirt. I picture it with a bright pink blouse tucked in and some cream/beige/brown heels.
ReplyDeleteI got the Taryn long chiffon dress in dark cinnamon on final sale with the recent coupon. The color isn't scarlet at all! This is the second time I've been sorely disappointed by the color. I once ordered the rosette clutch in olive, and it turned out darker and less rosy (more like circles than rosettes) than pictured. The difference is this time, I'm stuck with it.
ReplyDeleteMy Trolley Trench arrived the other day. Very cute! I ordered my regular J. Crew coat size and it fits perfectly. The fabric is pretty nice - not too shiny. One think I like about the trench is that the sleeves are not too long. This is really a cute springtime top layer.
ReplyDeletexoxo, I've seen Chie Mihara on endless and they are great looking shoes, so it's nice to know that they're high quality too. I was going to write that they're out of my price range, but I just bought 8 pairs of J Crew shoes recently and therefore could have bought 4 or more Chie Miharas, so cancel that excuse. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest thing driving me to buy the J Crew shoes is this year's heel and platform. I have been looking for this for many years and never found it in a shoe I could afford until this year. And with J Crew's promos and sales, and a little bit of help from eBay on a couple of pairs, the most I've spent on any of the J Crew shoes is $132. Some were under $100. The Odeons were only $70. I'm stocking up because I know eventually they'll stop using that heel/platform and switch to something else, like that Western-style tapered heel I'm seeing so much everywhere. Ahhh, shoes. :)
@Ivy: I understand your frustration. I ordered sequin tee and tank in white. When it arrived it was yellow. I contacted customer service, and explained that pictures online made those items look very different. They waived for me the final sale policy. I returned those items in store yesterday with no problem. You may want to try doing the same. Quite often pictures make things look brighter or paler than in person. I have even noticed that in store lights make colors look much better than they are in any other light setting.I appreciate J Crew understanding it and providing excellent customer service.
ReplyDeletestarfish28- thanks for the review of the Cecelia dress.
ReplyDeletehopefully it makes it to the sale section in my size.
xoxo, is the 3" chino short TTS or have you sized down? Would like to have your advice. Thanks
ReplyDeleteCan anyone review:Perforati Ballet Flats
ReplyDeletesub
ReplyDeletest, I took my usual size in the 3" chino shorts. I find the basic J.Crew chino shorts to be very consistent sizing from year to year.
ReplyDeleteHTH
The lunette is so cute! I may have to stop by my B&M for the dark beechwood. :)
ReplyDeleteGood day, everyone! I was in-store yesterday and tried on a bunch of new arrivals not yet online. Some really nice things, IMO. You can read it here.
ReplyDeletePumpkin:
ReplyDeleteThe perforati ballet flats are adorable! The leather is very soft, almost buttery, and the color Sunflower is amazing. Great darker yellow, not neon.
They run large though. I usually am a size 6 in JCrew ballet flats (Kerrinton, Piera from last year) and these in a 6 keep falling off, mainly because the material is softer than other flats. I'm waiting for a smaller size to popback in yellow, otherwise i'll keep them and add an insole.
Received the Factory Jaspe Hoodie item 36451 XS. I sized down for this. It's a great piece for spring to be used as a layering piece.
ReplyDeleteAlso received the Zip Utility Pants 28431 size 2. The fit is TTS for me. Love them!
sub :)
ReplyDelete@Sunflower:
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. The ballets seem to disappear online very quickly. I wear 9 and the only color left is beachwood, which is very nice. I like that greenish color as well. They look very sophisticated. I wonder if it is worth waiting for sale. I live in FL so I could wear them all year long.
Back from a lovely trip to check out new arrivals. I found lots to love! Lots of pics and reviews
ReplyDeletehere
Since every one and their sisters have reviewed the Maritime dress, this may be of no interest anymore, but you never know. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://mysuperfluities.blogspot.com/2011/03/j-crew-review-maritime-dress.html
You all have a great day!
Hi ladies!
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of reviews and pictures of some recent J crew spring pieces I bought like the gingham sonoma shorts and the maritime dress, etc. It's on my new blog, so check it out. Hope that helps!
california kimchi girl
I received part of my 30% off order today.
ReplyDeleteFirst, the Odeon high heel oxfords:
Love! Such a good deal, if we get another code, snap them up! I have a somewhat wide foot, so after reading some of the comments here, I went up a 1/2 size, and I'm quite glad I did, so that's something to consider.
Camp pocket cardigan in smoldering brick: Very pretty, I love the color. Quite thin, so nice for spring, I think this is good at the sale price (I'm not sure I would pay full price for it). I think it fits true to size, with a slightly close fit in the sleeves.
I'm still waiting on the Heidi flannel dress in black.
Matinee Trench
ReplyDeleteSuper cute in Navy and very flattering cut. I didn't think I would like this one, but after I tried it in store I had to have it.
Mixed stitch cardigan-White
This is really lovely & very unique. Pockets are open, not sewn down or just for show. TTS to a little loose. The medium thickness crepe yarn material is not soft, but not bothersome enough to scratch the skin. Picked this one up at $54, not sure if it's a full price worthy buy.
Featherweight cashmere cardigan-Hthr Algae
Color is nothing like imagined. It's more like a muted or dark mint green. It looks sort of blue green in the photo on my computer. I don't see any blue IRL. Not sure if it's all that complementary to my olive skin. Possible return.
Cashmere femme cardigan-Hthr Tide
Great length, fit, and what a wonderful dark teal color. Not shrunken like the Cody Cardigan. I have It's a light, close to the featherweights. A great piece on sale. I'm planning to pick up more when a Extra % off comes around again.
Tuxedo henley-Shadow
Not a new item, but at $20 I thought this would be a good addition to wear with a blazer or cardigan. TTS
Silk pocket tank
Great basic for low cut silk shirts. Size down on this one. Picked up the Dark Charcoal & aged driftwood
OT The silk driving scarf 24826 is the orangy floral one called modern red? I think this has been discussed..sorry for asking again...VERY confusing.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Yes, Lauren.
ReplyDeleteThe one with smaller pattern is called retro orange.
Talk about a marketing snafu!
Thank you Rose! Love your blog :)
ReplyDeleteGot a chance to try on the Cecilia dress in blood orange today. I absolutely LOVED it. Color is beautiful and the length is actually longer than decent--WHAT?!?! I was shocked...in a good way :) My reg. size 4 fit perfectly. Loved the little dots in the fabric. They weren't so obvious but just added some nice texture to the dress.
ReplyDeleteOh--and I also saw a beautiful new pencil skirt today too. It is in the same color family as the blood orange but is a paisley print. It is gorgeous! Of course, it fit perfectly as all j.crew pencil skirts do (I tried my normal size 4) and it is lined. Added bonus...it has pockets on both the sides AND the back :)
ReplyDeletepicture of beautiful paisley (tho not whole skirt) :
ReplyDeletehere
WFF: Yes, that's it! Isn't it gorgeous?! I'll be posting pics later, too!
ReplyDeleteAppGAl, I agree on the Cecelia dress, it's turning-heads gorgeous and fits TTS (glad to hear that it is longer on you too). It took all my willpower to leave it at the store but I may go back and get it tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteAppGal, wellfedfred, and Shop with M, I think I have to have that new paisley skirt! I need another skirt like I need another hole in my head, but if it fits, it will probably go home with me this weekend. :) Have to call my ps tomorrow and have him hold it for me!
ReplyDeleteOkay, pics of the orange Cecilia here. I could only do one post tonight and figured y'all would want to see this dress the most. I'll have pics up of the pencil skirt hopefully tomorrow :)
ReplyDelete@ AppGal The cecilia dress looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteHowever, I did NOT like it at all on me, a size 10. I feel like the volume of the skirt doesn't look flattering on a larger frame. It just made me look very pear shaped, which I am not.
I had high hopes for it, too. But again, this is just my opinion!
Springlily cardigan
ReplyDeleteTried it on instore. So cute, but the material is so thin and it’s quite cropped. Pass for me. On sale at Walnut Creek.
Merino-linen studded cardigan
Already on sale at Walnut creek. Cute but, looks like 80s bedazzled master piece.
Odeon high-heel oxfords - so cute, but so dissapointed. I have a pair of size 8's by J Crew and they're tight, so I hoped getting the 8H would be best. Wrong! They're still tight. But for $60 I guess I'll live
ReplyDeleteSafari Shirtdress - I should have ordered down a size in this one. (I recommend one to two sizes down) Threw it in the hot water wash, hoping it draws up. The elastic on the waste is very high-waisted for me, so much so that my belt wants to sit lower on my back and it misses the seam. Could be cute running around the city this summer though.
Portfolio dress in wool crepe - I love this dress. Have it in all three colors and wear the heck out of it at work. In my opinion, it is very versitile for several figures because you can belt it. The skirt is also forgiving and not as fitted as some of the other dresses (hello, Banquette dress, you suck.) The poofy sleeves are slightly annoying but I deal with it. A+
Herringbone Cargo Dress - I love! Got the green and ordered the slate but returned the slate because it was too light. Little tricky fit here - I tried on 2 different dresses (same size) in the store and they weren't exactly fitting the same way. Had to hot-water wash this one too because the M was a little small and the L a little big. Great dress with the Braided Leather Belt, which is on sale at my Chicago B&M. Also looks good with the Notched denim belt
Exchange Dress in glen plaid Super 120s - Purchased this for $99 on sale in my Chicago B&M. Overall, good dress and looks cute witha belt. Multi-season. Lined, so it skims the curves. I'll have to get it altered though because I'm more of a 12 in the bottom and a 10 on the top.
Accordion Dress in Super 120s - I ordered this dress with my Spring rewards card + 20% off. Too bad it was huge. I was drowning in it. Could have done an 8 or a 10 on this (and I'm normally a 12). Lovely, lovely dress though. I normally stay away from a cut like that because a full skirt can be somewhat overwhelming on full hips but this dress certaily would have flattered had it fit!
ReplyDeleteOleander lace shift dress - After lusting after this dress I've decided it just won't happen. I tried on both the 10 and the 12. The larger size removed the bumps/lumps that quite a few other bloggers have complained abougt, but the trade-off was drowning in lace. Just too delicate to alter, I'd recommend this to someone who's larger on top, with narrow hips - they may not have the same problems with the lumps/bumps.
StaciStaci,
ReplyDeleteSo, Herringbone Cargo Dress in Slate is much lighter than the pics online? TIA
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletestacistaci - how were the lengths on the dresses?
ReplyDeleteGot the denim pencil in from the 30% off and it fits like a dream almost exact fit on me as the double serge (which by the way all colors now on sale!). Glad at least the pencils like me even if a majority of the dresses don't.
After trying on a bonfire cardigan in the store this weekend, size S being just a little too big, I couldn't get it out of my head, so I ordered an XS (in grey). LOVE IT, wearing it today... very substantial, warm (I walked to work in it, so it was dense enough to keep me warm from early morning chill but I wasn't overheating in it either). I'm very very short, but it's working for me. Love that the yarn feels/looks almost like variegrated cotton twine, robust feeling with no itch whatsoever. Seriously might rationalize the other colour if it pops back...
ReplyDeleteLove the ashen blue silk serenade dress I got... true-ish red top, and ashen blue is a perfect description for the lower colour as it is a subdued grey-leaning blue. I like the contrast between bold red and the sombre blue. Can't wait to wear this by itself outside of work but I can also pull it off at work with a jacket or cardigan over.
Haven't tried the catalog pairing yet though! :)
Got a white studded leather belt... might return it. Don't like how the edges are cut almost at a slant, at least on mine, so it seems to show a lot of the raw leather edge and looks like it's already aged and fraying.
The Dorrie skirt... TTS or size up?
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
mack: I stuck with my regular size in the Dorrie (see my pics and review here) but if you have wider hips, you may want to size up. I guess it depends on your body shape!
ReplyDeleteOne more thing about the Matinee Trench. It's quite long. I'm about 5'7 and the 12Regular hits 6" above my knee.
ReplyDeletemack, I ordered the Dorrie skirt in my regular size and it fits although it is a bit snug around the waist (and it doesn't have any give in it).
ReplyDeleteI took advantage of the sweater promo and ordered the Confetti Striped Sweater and the Cashmere Ivy Sweater in Heathered Lilac.
The Confetti sweater is such a fun piece. I got several compliments on it and can't wait to wear it again. Of course, the issue with this kind of sweater is leaving remnants of sequins behind which was an issue, but not so much that I was upset by it. I got my regular size, but think you could size down for a slender fit.
I wore the cashmere ivy sweater yesterday and it is so cozy and the perfect soft shade. This color got me a few compliments too. I ordered this in my regular size also.
See pics on my blog here and here
Letour floral Lucinda dress
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'5, 127 lbs and a 32A (on a good day) and the size 2 was a baggy mess on top. The armholes, bust and waist were way, way too big. I wanted to wear this dress to a summer wedding and aside from the issues up top, found it a little short for me to be comfortable in and forget bending over...at all. Yikes. They also forgot to include the silk strip to make the bow at the bodice, so even though it was Final Sale, I'm hoping to be able to return it. What a disappointment.
Lace-stripe tissue tee
XS was tight in the arms, mainly because a stripe of lace running through the shoulders and sleeves (dumb) and it has a boxy waist. Not too thrilled with it...but that's what I get for shopping Final Sale.
Tuxedo henley
S was looong on my midget torso and too big. Hoping it shrinks in the dryer. A lot.
dorrie skirt: originally ordered my usual size 4... it fit but was snug in the waist... returned it and bought it in a 6 (on its way to my house now)... i have a thick waist but no hips... and i'd rather it hang a little lower than to have it sit at my belly button and muffin top if i eat a little too much for lunch.
ReplyDeleteHi all-
ReplyDeleteI’ll third the opinions of the Crosstown tee: WAY too big and floppy. In fact, that I can say about several tops I have tried on at JC lately, notably the Nickelby and the Eyelet embroidered tank. But neither of these is as bad as the crosstown.
I’ll fourth (fifth?) on the Cecilia dress: it’s fantastic. I agree that it’s good for thin girls as it is voluminous on the bottom and it did do good things for my small chest. It runs slightly large in the bodice, I had to go down a size.
The 3" chino shorts this season are adorable and not indecently short. TTS or maybe slightly large. Colors in store different than online.
Kimchi girl, you look great in the buffalo check. I got the short sleeve one (vintage gingham schoolboy) today and I love it!
Dorrie skirt is great and TTS.
At my local store, they had some very cute dresses and lots of eyelet lace items that are not on the website. Also perfect fit tees were on sale cheaper than online. I would highly recommend getting there soon.
Lexington Booties: Fierce! I own 2 pairs of flat boots (one mid-calf, one below knee-length) so these are new for me. Fit TTS, if not a little narrow through the toe box...sizing up would not have been an option because I have very small ankles and the top of the bootie would have looked like they were swallowing my feet! (Also, they were FS). I like the platform and they are fairly easy to walk in (this from a person who spends most of her life in Converse and Keens).
ReplyDeletePencil Skirt in Bi-Stretch Wool: I ordered this to see if I could emulate the models on the website - particularly the (ahem!) backside. Turns out this is more of an anatomical problem on my part. So unless JC starts selling derrieres, I'll stick to the double-serge pencil skirts. Love the black one (I can't believe I've been without this basic for so long!) I got for the ~$60 price! The fabric on the bi-stretch was lovely, but I didn't see how the stretch was going to help me, as the fabric was fairly thin. Great for suiting, I imagine, but a little less substantial than I would like as a stand-alone skirt. The buttons on top were a cute detail, but I also thought it limited the possibilities for dress up and dress down...

ReplyDeleteI wanted to mention that the in-store-only gingham short jacket went down to $89.99. That said, the first one I took in the fitting room had a broken 2nd button. So my PS went to get another one. As I unbuttoned it, the SAME button broke off of this new jacket! WTH? All I could think of was the Trenchlet pic they recenly posted on their site with the broken button. So just thinking that they're using uber-cheap buttons. I long for the days of Lexingon-level buttons.
ReplyDeleteOn a positive note, I received the slate polka-dot Factory poplin skirt and the Factory sequin henley tank and love both. The skirt is completely lovely -- and knee-length. Hurrah!! Fit was TTS in both (same skirt size as my normal retail size, and same size as my retail sequin henley).
ReplyDeleteThis is my first post! I bought the Miller high heel Motorcycle boots (28662), size 7h. I love them. The last time I bought shoes from J crew, it was the wooden clogs from the early 2000s. These are great. Very comfortable--and I normally only wear heels to weddings. To give you an idea of sizing, I take a 37 in Danskos.
ReplyDeleteGot my Odeon oxfords and they are so beautiful but they have a slight flaw (xoxo, I thought about you because of your Collins), but I called CS this morning and they are sending a replacement. I knew from other posts and my experience with other J Crew shoes that they might be tight, and they sure are! But they are so pretty and other than the flaw (a suede strip covering the back seam on one shoe is curved noticeably to one side) the workmanship is fantastic. They have leather lining (which is impeccably done) and I think with some work I can make them fit my feet. I only paid $70 for them so I'm reluctant to give them up! I would not recommend buying them on final sale unless you've tried them on before.
ReplyDeleteAlso got my Merino Twinkle-Button cardis which are very cute but much smaller than the size indicates, and they are going back. CS reminded me that they are final sale, but being 4" smaller in the bust than the size charts is not acceptable. The CS rep didn't fight me on it. I need to button my cardis, especially in the warmer months when I walk outside without a jacket. I walk a lot, and don't want cardi sides flying back. :)

Is anyone else finding that the Eyelet pencil skirt is running large? I have lost some weight recently but I just got the size 4 and it is just a smidge too big. ??? I used to be a 6 in J. Crew, now a size 4 due to the weight loss, but the idea of sizing down to a 2 for a pencil skirt is really too much!!
