"Thanks!" to many of you, including Brandon + Allie & Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post), as well as Ketan, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).
There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated. Although the J.Crew Collection (click here) appears to be the same from the last update.
The latest April catalog (click here to view) is now available to view. The Men's only catalog is available too.
It is so nice to see the models smile in their brightly colored swimsuits. Spring is just around the corner! (As I write this, there is snow outside my window. How I desperately want Spring to come!) :)
As for the new arrivals... I am loving the Perfect Shirt in Schoolboy Madras (Item 37207; $89.50) and the Gingham Vintage Schoolboy Shirt (Item 36372; $68.00). These classic staples will round out any wardrobe.
I honestly do not understand the Cloudburst Tee (Item 40567; $295.00). It looks like a Van Gogh painting gone wrong. Once again, I am baffled by how I would wear this {expensive} piece.
I also think the "Saturday with Jenna" feature is a nice twist on her usual picks from the catalog. Her son is pretty darn adorable too!
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)
There are two pieces that I think are cute: the silk Sophie blouse (41473) and the ribbon cami (39311). It also snowed here overnight so it's hard to get into that spring mindset.
ReplyDeleteThe cafe trousers look very similar to the "perfect khaki" that Gap is offering (for $40 less). Too many rompers. I don't have much to say about the rest of it. Always love to hear what the JCA's think, though!
I saw the magical update happen before my eyes. 5am PST/8am EST.
ReplyDeleteI`m really loving J.Crew`s suitsuits this season. While everything else is pretty, it`s repetitive but with swimsuits, I`m looking for a few basics this season and they are one of the few retailers that actually has STYLISH one pieces!
ReplyDeleteTartan boy shirt in 8?
ReplyDeleteNow going to check out catalog and new bits! :)
I like the Islet Paisley Perfect Shirt, Stripe Boatneck Sweater, Cotton Voile Marina skirt, and Paisley Bermuda Short...just not enough to pay full price. If they're still around in my size on sale then I may consider a purchase. :)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that really caught my eye is the trench motorcycle jacket - and I am patiently waiting for the sardinia espadrilles to go on sale. It may be just me, and I hate to say this because I do truly adore JC, but I haven't been enthralled with a lot of their new releases lately, seems a lot of the "same" to me re: the separates.
ReplyDeleteI like the cotton voile skirt too :-D
ReplyDeleteAnyone try the Moped pants? I wish they were shorter than 33", more an ankle length like JBrand's Houlihans, but.....are they thick? Cute?
Need to make it into Chicago and try some of these new pieces.
I like the new madras shirt (which I've tried on) and the voile skirt (lol at them mentioning how they're now all about lowered hemlines). Where are all the pretty prints and fresh spring colors? Wah.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone happen to know what happened to the Wilder dress? It was just here a few days ago...
ReplyDeletehttp://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:2MIVXNinPa4J:www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/day/PRDOVR~37245/37245.jsp+j+crew+wilder+dress&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.com
Is it just me or can no one else figure out what the 'new arrivals' are? They all love the same!
ReplyDeleteminzunuami: Every time J.Crew updates the website with new arrivals some of the items go missing. The Calais silk tunic has disappeared this time, as well. They should show back up online within a week or so (sometimes earlier).
ReplyDeleteI know I have a serious problem, but I really really want another gingham shirt. They have them now in NEON colors.
ReplyDeleteIf y'all really love me? stage an intervention! I need another checked shirt like I need.... well, actually, I really do think I need another checked shirt! In pink neon! LOVE!!!!!
Thanks FFM! I almost had heart palpitations :)
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean the orange paisley pencil skirt will be in store only? Also, the Delphinium dress (#38577) is already $39.99 in store, $128 online, crazy prices.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I didn't add a single new arrival to my cart. Not much of interest to me and the few items that did catch my eye are similar to clothes I already have.
ReplyDeleteHi dinster - in my experience, there are usually 2-3 additions to the new arrivals online within a few days of the rollout. The ivory/red dot dress isn't online, either. I assume they will be soon.
ReplyDeleteI agree with FFM - I wouldn't pay FP for anything but may consider on sale.
Didn't even realize it was time for new arrivals. Guess I'll take a look but I'm not holding my breath for fabulousness
ReplyDeleteAgain with the sizes stopping at 12! This happens every roll out...I find one thing i really like only to discover it is not available in size 14. This time it's the Vineyard Pencil Skirt. I would have happily purchased full price. J.Crew, I am disappointed. Why stop at size 12?
ReplyDeleteApril catalog and rompers discussed here
ReplyDeleteI also really like the Marina skirt. But if it fits me the way the Dorrie did, it will not be good for me. I truly don't get the Merino romper. Why?
ReplyDeleteminzunuami -
ReplyDeleteI asked my PS about the wilder a couple weeks ago and she said quantities were really low and it was selling fast. The Madison Ave store in NYC got a shipment in last week and by the weekend they were sold out. Hopefully it's like what FFM said though and it pops back. If not I'd try a store search.
Again not wowed by any of the new arrivals. I saw the Ribbon Cami IRL 2 weeks ago in the Soho store and it is completely see through. You would absolutely have to wear a cami underneath the cami!
ReplyDeleteThanks Summerilla! I did notice the sizes disappearing quickly... Hopefully it's not completely sold out, but as with all J. Crew items, popbacks are expected. Did you happen to buy it? :)
ReplyDeleteI see arrivals, but not anything I would declare as "new".
ReplyDeleteCan anyone find the Arene Platform Sandals? They seem to have disappeared, and I'm stalking for a popback :).
ReplyDeleteI do see a few pieces I like, however, like XOXO, I already have something very similar. I am trying very hard to only add to my closet to fill a need, so I'm not buying more of the same. Truthfully, I fear I'm one of the people responsible for J. Crew's big loss (as reported yesterday). I've been buying less and less. It's a combination of not seeing anything different from what I already have in my closet, and a gradual move to many other brands and designers.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what's with Jenna painting her son's toenails HOT PINK?
ReplyDeleteNext thing you'll know...he'll be asking Santa for a pair of Cosabella cutie lowrider thongs...in peacock feather.
LOL Chic Chauffeur! I'd help you out with your intervention but I'm too busy buying shoes. :) (I too need an intervention!)
ReplyDeleteI like the eyelet Schoolboy blazer in the grey color. And I like the Nicola heels though I probably won't get them because I like the Collins even more. I wish the Collins came in grey. Love grey.
I wasn't blown away by any of the new items. I have some interest in the Jenny dress (#41478), as something very casual for the summer but I definitely need to check it out in person first.
ReplyDeleteI love new Lulu Frost Jewelry pieces. Ordered the shield earnings this morning. Love that Green stone on them. I think they are very different. Little tired of J Crew usual jewels. Same stone bracelets over and over again.
ReplyDeleteBtw (sorry for out of topic question) has anyone tried or reviewed Astin dress?
ReplyDelete@ The Chic Chauffeur : I love gingham shirts as well. I do not own one but I am getting into it and I am sure I will want every color. Try to hold on (especially if place where you live is still cold)because as we know in a month they all will be on sale with 30% off. You will pay 30 bucks instead of 72...that also means you can get more colors if you choose to :) Hope this help!
ReplyDeleteSo underwhelmed overall..... However, a few items I will wait for sales... Chambray Bermuda shorts, Madras jacket, gingham shirts. That is it for me :)
ReplyDeleteThe neon perfect shirts are fab, but it is hard to decide on which color to get. I also like the presentation skirt, the paisley bermudas, and the Bhati Bead silk bracelet (however pricey) Not liking the denim gauchos. I am old enough to remember and have worn that look. Not something I want to revisit.
ReplyDeleteminzunuami-
ReplyDeleteI didn't end up buying it. When I went online to finally purchase the XXS and XS were both sold out. My PS did a store search for me and found it but last minute I changed my mind. I wanted to wait and see what was released today, but after seeing a lack of new cute dresses I'm regretting it. I did see it on the mannequin at the Madison Ave store and it is really cute in person, though I wonder if it would be too short on me.
Hi! late question, but can anyone discuss coat sizing with me?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of buying a stadium cloth boulevard coat in size 4.
I only have one jcrew coat, and it's the Lady Day from 2008, in a size 4. But i've heard that the lady day runs small, and I'm usually a size 2 in j crew blazers.
Cam anyone who has this coat weigh in?
78d50,
ReplyDeleteI have a stadium cloth boulevard trench coat (sandstone) in the same size as my JC blazers and dresses, so I'd say it fits TTS. I can fit a cashmere sweater underneath with no problem. I love this coat. It is warm, stylish and well made imo. I have worn it a LOT since October and it still looks like new.
I like the Petal Midi Skirt in the new rollout today. But will wait for it to go on sale. I saw the Jenny dress in store last weekend and thought it looked nice as a casual dress for summer.
ReplyDeleteI loooove that Perfect shirt in schoolboy madras! Urgh! I'm such a madras whore!
ReplyDeleteHuge sale update overnight. I had a few things in my cart but decided to wait until tomorrow. You know extra30 can't be far away....
And ooh, that linen striped sweater is divine, especially in the brick color! ... damn. I might have to break out my limitation-laden green card for that one!
ReplyDelete@Chic Chauffeur
ReplyDeleteThe Lottie Monk Straps were back on the site just moments ago. Good luck.
Christy,
ReplyDeleteI'd rather Jenna let her son paint his toenails hot pink than play with toy guns. It's harmless, who cares. Gendered toys are so last century.
FFM, I saw the Islet Paisley Perfect Shirt IRL last week in and I was excited from afar but disappointed up close. It is thicker and stiffer cotton than say Liberty shirts (that I love) but not in a good way. To me it felt more like something you can get much cheaper somewhere else, but the print is very cute.
ReplyDelete@Chic Chauffeur- LOL i'm in love w/ gingham too! i'd say hold off on paying full price. unless they have a "shirts" promo in a couple of weeks (i highly doubt), your best bet is to use your "spring fever" card. from my experience w/ the check shirts and gingham shirts, they rarely go on sale. jcrew knows that they're very popular so they won't be marking them down until the middle to end of the season or until they rollout with new colors... by then your size will more than likely be sold out. i know the 2's and 4's usually are! hth! :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to own these in toffee colour.
ReplyDeleteAs for the catalog, I should be getting it by the end of April or beginning of May up here in the forgotten Northwest. ;)
Elaine, I picked up the striped linen sweater in brick last week at my B&M with the green card, and I LOVE it. It drapes beautifully. It's slightly sheer with a long fit. It's one of my favorite pieces I've purchased in awhile.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in the windowpane and motorcycle trenches. They are both so short though, not sure if they will work on me.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I hate the new catalog. Besides the swim section, the photography is awful. The models look excessively thin in the angled shots. Plus honestly, they look like boys and I cannot relate to that at all. None of the outfits appeal to me. I wish they let the Jenna clone look go.
The menswear section has a variety of guys with different looks and styles. Why can't they do that in the women's section??

ReplyDelete#36954; Lace over tank; a very versatile piece, I wore it last night to dinner under a cardigan. Purchased the ivory color. Buttons up the front and they are functional buttons. Size down one size in this- runs large.
ReplyDeleteGingham shirt- this is so cute! I don't know what color I want. I really don't want to pay $72 for it, but I have missed out on several perfect shirts playing the waiting game and I have realized (like the poster above) that they rarely go on sale and when they do there are no sizes left quickly. I think I'll buy one of these next time I'm in the store with my 20% off card.
ReplyDeleteJenny dress- very cute, but I don't think it is worth full price. I'd probably pay about 50-60 for it, so I may pick it up with the 20% off card as well. Runs about true to size.
OT - LL Bean will not be charging shipping anymore!
ReplyDeletehttp://finance.yahoo.com/news/LL-Bean-stamps-out-shipping-apf-1193231208.html?x=0
I have had nothing but great experiences with LL Beans CS - definitely a company to model in that respect.
pumpkin,
ReplyDeleteehh, jcrew used to use more healthy, fresh-faced looking models, who looked like they could do more than lounge on a chaise or stand pigeon-toed without breaking in half. but now they fancy themselves high fashion and have to use models who fit that aesthetic. plenty of us xsmall-ers don't look like sullen waifs, and don't care to look at those images.
I hear you pumpkin, it wasn't meant as a criticism of woman with thin or rectangular body shapes. The hair styles and outfits, particulary of the gal right after swim, is an extremely "borrowed from the boys" look which I am tired of. All I ask is for variety. As you said I think, women come in different shapes and sizes, not just Jenna's
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the Jenny dress I immediately clicked on it and of course that exposed zipper was once again a dealbreaker for me. I just cannot get past that garish trend. I honestly believe that the chasing of trends is responsible for part of the decline in J.Crew revenue. Trendy, disposable clothing is available at many other stores for a lot less.

ReplyDeleteAlexis - just want to say I love, LOVE your new banner pic! The various outfit photos are so inspiring.
ReplyDeletePS - didn't you change the banner not too long ago? I liked that one too (nice and clean) but love this one more.
Also bummed about lack of size 14--not much interests me anymore, but the few items that do stop at size 10 or 12. Seriously disappointed in sandal offerings this year. All so manly looking. I need some pretty feminine sandals for a beach wedding--guess I will be looking to other retailers.
ReplyDeletePansy: Thank you for noticing and the nice comment about it! :) I really like this new banner too. It gets me in the mood for Spring and wearing all Spring-related pieces like skirts and shorts. :)
ReplyDeletePleated leather trouser and a denim jumpsiut? What's going on here? I know that th 80's are back, but I'd rather listen to an old cassette tape than be caught dead in these looks! Give me Duran Duran any day over these hideous looks!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I love the new image you put at the top of the blog! It's so spring-y and light!
ReplyDeleteJ Crew should not use the term "midi" to refer to a mid-thigh skirt. Midi has always meant below the knee, mid-way between knee and ankle.
ReplyDeleteTamara: Thank you so much! Spring-y and light is *exactly* what I was going for. Yey! :)
ReplyDeleteHeatherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, not helping! LOL.
ReplyDeleteAnd xoxo, ITA. I really don't like exposed zippers. They just look so ... off to me!
Hi xoxo - ITA with you. I hate the exposed zippers and would have purchased the Retro shell, stripe painter tee, Tribune dress, and horizon-stripe pencil skirt (and probably others) if they did not have them. If I wanted to take part in this trend, I wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars to do so. I have a bad feeling that exposed zippers are going to take longer to go out than ruffles (wah)!
ReplyDeleteAlexis just wanna chime in, loving your new header!
ReplyDelete@Chicchauffeur: I hear you about the gingham shirts, I loooove the neon pink and tangerine, colours which are missing from my closet ;) I waited till AUGUST last year to snag my spring gingham shirts, paid about 50% off original price. $72 is def. not my idea of a reasonable price tag for a cotton shirt. But if you can justify cost-per-wear at this price point, I say go for it.
Finally striped shirts! and in the classic stretch format too! I think I need one in every colour. Love the Islet Paisley shirt, but after reading the preceding comments, I'll wait for a review/see IRL. I really like the Indigo Pea Coat from the last rollout. Someone has heard my pleas for trousers, so now there's the Cafe Trousers, but why not in petite sizing? Same with Chambray Belmarin Pant? Love the options for bermuda shorts - paisley, chambray and linen. While the "lots of buckles" trend on shoes has not grown on me, the cut-out trend has. Liking the look of the Keatons, but wish JC would sell anti-blister gels in the shoe section - to head off the inevitable blisters - kinda like selling the cashmere and denim washes in the respective categories ;)
xoxo,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you on the "chasing of trends" comment. Give me classic, timeless shapes in fabric that isn't going to pill, lose its shape, and part at the seams.
I can't remember the last time I bought a t-shirt or tank that wasn't a "perfect fit"...notice what the sale racks are full of..not-so-well made cotton.
I know this isn't a "vent" post..sorry..I got carried away.
Closet Crisis: Thank you so much! :)
ReplyDeletecan we please talk about the Gaucho Jeans???
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/denim/PRDOVR~37869/37869.jsp
No wonder profits fell 90% if this is what they are putting out. I have a pretty large balance on my jcrew card but i am seriously thinking that i will buckle under, pay it off and cancel it. i am pretty over most of jcrew's offerings.
silver_lining, I hope you are wrong on the duration of the exposed zipper trend but I wouldn't bet money on it given J.Crew's attachment to past trends like the ruffles you mentioned as a perfect example. I also would have bought the Retro shell, Tribune dress, Horizon pencil skirt and other items if it were not for the exposed zippers.
ReplyDelete@tasty moog:
ReplyDeleteComparing hot pink nail polish to playing with guns is a bit extreme, no?
If you're all for gender equality, then boys wearing peacock thongs is also ok, just as long as you don't play with guns.
I agree with everyone else, a lot of the same and nothing I "MUST" have at full price.
ReplyDeleteI still need to stop by a B&M to see if anything catches my eye in person. But if not, looks like my green card will go unused. Sad! :(
The "midi" skirt is 20 1/4 inches long. I called. Don't know whether Copywrier from Space needs Fashion Dictionary,
ReplyDeleteor tape measure. Both, right? And those look like released pleats, not gathers.
ajc: Thank you for the information about the Islet Paisley shirt. I hope they use the print on other items since it's so cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the gray trench/jacket thing in the new header? The girl with black shorts is wearing it!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I love your new header image!
ReplyDeleteOT, and this may have been posted already, but I haven't had a chance to read everyone's posts, but some in-store prices:
Cadabra cardi $19.99
Camp pocket cardi $19.99
Retro Shell $29.99
Chambray skirt $19.99
That short-sleeve stripe t-shirt everyone liked so much, $24.99
Drapey striped tee, $24.99
I'm having a brain freeze so I'll come back with more sale prices if I remember them.
But I scored a Liberty dress in my size for $99! Yes!
JS: The jacket is the Mackintosh® Rousay trench coat in gingham (item 39829; $975.00). Hope this helps! :)
ReplyDeleteDinster: Thank you so much too! :)
Jewels, I think tasty moog was differentiating between pink nailpolish and guns, not considering them equivalent. So I think you two are in agreement.
ReplyDeleteI am feeling very light after looking at Alexis' new blog header image several times. I hate summer, and yet for some reason now I can't wait for it. :) I'm wearing gray and black today, what a downer I am!
ok I remember now:
ReplyDeleteCotton Stud cardi $19.99
Shelby dress $69.99
Cotton Lace Shift dress (# 38169, still $59.99 online), $39.99
Some other further markdowns but I only had a quick look-through.
If you have a Mickey card, and I don't, you could get some good deals right now, if you like the stuff in the first place.
I just checked out the Saturday with Jenna feature and totally LOL'd at her comment that she has a weakness for five-inch heels during the week. Seriously, FIVE-INCH heels?! Four I can totally see, maybe even four and a bit, but five inches? Does the pole come with it or do you purchase that separately?
ReplyDeletedinster, was it the chambray dorrie skirt for $19.99 in the b&m?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteXOXO, LOL, to each their own.
ReplyDeletejewels,
ReplyDeletewhat tamara said. reading comprehension is a good thing (far better than playing with toy guns, natch).
Crew Crew 4 J.Crew! I totally agree, to each their own. Just typing out my thoughts. I was persuaded by a well-meaning salesperson to try on some such shoes myself and those were also my thoughts when I gazed upon my image in the mirror. That and the possibility that my back would likely punish me for such a purchase if I didn't sprain my ankle stepping off a curb first.
ReplyDeleteThe Lacet ballet flats. Love them. Don't have $325 worth of love, though. In the past, I've gotten lucky with some JCG Collection ballets on deep sale and I hope it will happen this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd as to the sizing, I suspect JCG does see itself as "high fashion/contemporary" and most of those lines stop at 12.
Cotton stud cardi for $19.99? It's 79.99 online, and I got for like $59 when they ran the additional 30% off. I really like the weight (thick!) of this one, if anyone is considering. TTS, hits just below jean waistband level (5'5" and I took a small.) HTH!
ReplyDeleteI just watched the "about a print" video - I want to go to Ratti!
ReplyDeleteShananigans, LOL @ Gaucho Jeans. Yes, attention must be paid to *those*.
ReplyDeleteHow does one wear those and not look like a demented child?
@ Karen, no it wasn't the Dorrie. It's one of those short skirts with the elastic waist.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where to post this, but I am going to return the Liberty shirt-dress tomorrow in a size 6. I live in the Greater DC area. Email me if you are interested and I'll let you know which store.
I'm currently swooning after the Factory Delphinia dress. I have no justification to purchase it so I will admire from afar....
ReplyDeleteAs a person who was alive when gauchos were the rage.... J Crew's version are not wide enough. They should be like a split a-line skirt. Also, they're really not a summer item, to pull them off successfully you really need to wear them with tall boots. Gauchos didn't wear sandals (or peep toes) when they rode. :)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteTamara, ha! You definitely know your gauchos! Any gaucho worth their salt knows that peep toes are totally gauche in the saddle!
ReplyDeleteI posted a couple pics on my blog here and here of the lady lace popover, and the #2 pencil skirt! love them both.
Am still jonesing for a neon gingham shirt!!!!
Great outfits on your blog, Chic Chauffeur! I love that lady lace popover and whatever size you chose is perfect, and your Rotary outfit is so well put together and so flattering on you. How fun!
ReplyDeleteI see the cream dress with the red dots just popped up on the site.
ReplyDeleteIt's called the 'Tea Stained Dobby dress'. Description reads 'falls to the knee'. It looks much shorter. Those who've seen it at the B&M have any thoughts on the length. I love the dotted fabric.

ReplyDeleteHi! found your site via google images, just to let you know I'm using your screen caption of the swimsuits (but gave u credit and linked to your blog)I hope you don't mind.
