"Thanks!" to IRL (in this post) who noticed a new feature on J.Crew's website.
In the last rollout of new arrivals, J.Crew added something else to product pages: the Like button from Facebook. Yup! On the bottom, below the multiple views, there is a button where you can show how much you like a J.Crew item by sharing it with all your friends & family.
Very clever. This way J.Crew has another marketing tool to determine which items are most coveted. Very clever indeed. ;)
Since J.Crew is adding features to their product page, how about a reviews section for each item? This is a suggestion that many JCAs have been wanting for a long time now. Gap Inc does it (for Gap, BR, etc.) and so does Anthropologie.
Did you catch the Like button on the bottom of J.Crew's item pages? Have you used the feature?
They need FB to tell them what people like?
ReplyDeleteIf they were really smart, they'd work the dislike button in.

ReplyDeleteI did see this on the website. Too bad they didn't add a review feature instead.
ReplyDeleteI majorly agree with Fabulous Florida Mommy, I would love to see a reviews feature added. That would be so helpful - especially for popback items.

Ugh, Facebook. Started out as a good idea, turned into a commercial mess. I refuse to accept the Facebook cookies coming from sites that try to download them. In fact, I refuse to accept almost all cookies, plus I use AdBlock Plus. Highly recommended. Adjust your browser so that you have to explicitly accept or deny cookies, you'll be amazed by how many are downloaded to your computer to track your every movement. I also wipe out any cookies I have accepted each time I close my browser. J Crew is actually one of the better sites, only a few cookies that aren't necessary for shopping.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to use FB's "Like" feature (except to for friends' links, comments, and pictures) especially on sites outside of FB. CC4JC is right...too bad you can only "like" and not "dislike".
ReplyDeleteI will also join the chorus in saying that they really should have customer reviews. Is J.Crew afraid of criticism?
Lame.
ReplyDeleteFabulous Florida Mommy is right, they need a review feature. They could still vet the reviews but it would be a start.
See, I thought I saw that the other day and then I went back to look and couldn't find it, lol! At least I know I'm not going crazy. They're getting there, I gues...
ReplyDeleteIRA with FFM - review feature needed!! How much advertising should we all be doing for J Crew for free?
ReplyDeletehaha - I meant "ITA" with FFM. Sorry for the typo!
ReplyDeleteIf they want to know what people like, they should just read this blog often.
ReplyDeleteAnd, mind you, it's NOT candy-like disposable clothing.
Review and wish list features instead would be much better than FB likes.
BendiStraw, what a great idea! Facebook "dislike". :)
ReplyDeleteI would like reviews too, but they should focus on fit and quality and how close the garment matches the image on the web site. I get irritated by reviews based on taste, if I like or dislike the way an item looks, someone else with the opposite view isn't going to change my mind. That reminds me of a review I just saw on Amazon yesterday, a women reviewed a pair of shoes that had grossly exaggerated pointy toes, the type that are very long and drawn out like elf shoes except without the curl. She complained because the shoes had grossly exaggerated pointy toes! Hello! Look at the picture, lady! Tell me something I can't see, like how the shoes fit, are they TTS, same color as image, etc.
I think it was easy to add the FB like feature, which is why they did it. Oh, btw, in a recent call to J Crew I asked the rep if she'd heard of any plans for a major site update in the future & she said no. Not that they'd tell the staff in advance.
ReplyDeleteI have a clock on my blog (waaay lower right-hand corner) ticking away as we wait for a wishlist to be added. It would be nice to at least get that if they don't want to risk tarnishing their image w/a review feature. Oh how I hate dumping my whole cart because I only want 2 things from my list.
tamara - lol @ the Amazon review. Sometimes reviews are worthless, but overall are good. They are spot on on Gap & BR. A few chicks had me (5'2") ordering a skirt in a tall and they were absolutely correct.
I can hardly believe I found the Amazon review again. Look at the shoe picture, then scroll down to read the review. (I hope the reviewer isn't someone who posts here!)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know it was pointed until it arrived?
omg that show review made me LOL!
ReplyDeleteAw crap, now J Crew is sending the Facebook cookie. I AM DENYING IT, J CREW! I deny all cookies that aren't essential to my activity.
ReplyDeleteMy workplace blocks Facebook on all our computers so guess what... last 2 days IE has been freaking out halfway through the day. Then I figured out that the FB cookie is running up against something in my browser... I kept getting an overlay from my Syst Admin saying if I want to unblock this site for business reasons I can email a request in. AS IF! So I WON"T be browsing JC at work anymore! JC oh JC, why can't you just give us features like product description, quick view, wishlist and customer review like we keep asking for, instead of this silly FB add in!
ReplyDeleteLMAO Tamara
