EXTRA 20% Off Final Sale & FREE SHIPPING

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa (in this post), socialscientist (in this post), Carrie, Marietta, & Ketan, who shared with us the latest news from J.Crew this morning.

J.Crew is offering customers 20% off any purchase from the Sale section {no minimum} and free shipping {on $150+} with promo code EXTRA20. This offer expires Thursday, 6/15/10.

The fine print of this offer includes:
*All sales final. No exchanges, no returns. Offer valid in J.Crew stores and online only. Offer is not valid at J.Crew Factory stores. Offer does not apply to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards. 20% off discount applies to sale items only. Offer valid through Thursday, July 15, 2010, 11:59pm ET. Free shipping offer applies to orders shipped via ground shipping totaling $150+ after 20% discount on sale items and before shipping, handling and taxes are added. Savings are applied at checkout with code EXTRA20. Offer not valid on phone orders. Cannot be combined with any other promotion. Limit one promotional code per order.
The brick & mortar (B&M) stores were offering an additional *30% off* Final Sale, this past week. The email below (sent out this morning) states that stores will start to offer 20% off Final Sale (downgrade, but much better than nothing) and will also end this Thursday. It might be worth a call to find out if B&M locations are offering 20% or 30% off before going.

Incidentally, I asked a sales associate over the weekend why there was a discrepancy between stores (30% off) & online (nothing). She explained that they (1) have to move merchandise a lot faster to make room for the new arrivals & (2) don't have room to store like online does with their warehouse. That explanation totally made sense because 3/4 of the store looked like it was on sale and not moving very well without the additional percent off.

I hope some of you are snagging some great items at great prices. Yey! :)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting?

  1. I do have to say that I placed an order this morning. Jackies at $31.99 in such a variety of colors is worth it. They are repurchases, but I saved $8 each and got free shipping.

  2. I was in the store yesterday and most of the store is sale. The SA told me they are trying hard to move it since new arrivals are due the 22nd. It does look like some of the older shopworn things I saw last week are gone.

  3. FURIOUS!!! They removed the featherweight cotton bling-button cardigan (love them & they wash well) from final sale and put them back at full price. Uuuhhhh, so maddening...

  4. I only see a few things I might get. Although I totally get the reasoning behind the price discrepancy, just know it's out there means I will be checking my B&Ms before placing any orders. ...

    ReplyDelete
  5. I stocked up on Jackies... I tell myself that's an investent :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Nothing for me this time around...waiting it out for the new arrivals to be released before purchasing again.

  7. they might move the msdse if it were priced to move, competitors are offering better deals! and not final sales

do you want to sell it or look at it?

  8. sometimes shopping JC is like dating -- you know the right thing is out there, but you need to find it at the right time and the right opportunity. This is not it, but I'm optimistically waiting for the fall stuff (without the gloop my mother would have made me remove before leaving the house).

  10. Thank you for sharing!! I snagged a Jackie in the pretty "light pool" color (you can never have too many Jackie cardis in my opinion) and I also got the Ruffled Spring Celosia Cardi in ivory.

  11. The Denver Cherry Creek had an additional 30% off sale items this weekend, but the racks were FILLED with awful "art" tees.

    20% seems like a letdown.

  12. I was there this weekend and was excited to see the jackies that I wanted. But, they were still full price. The (new) manager wouldn't honor the online price (in fact, he wouldn't even look them up to verify). He did offer to order them online (gee, thanks), but not with the 30%. So, I'll be calling tomorrow when my favorite manager and my ps are working. Fingers crossed.
I am also disappointed that the bling button cardis are back to full price. They are on sale in stores, but they didn't have the color I wanted and after one run-in with the new manager, I didn't even ask. :)

  13. Now you mentioned price discrepancy between stores and online, I regreted not checking at the local stores first. But that is over on the other side of my town >.<

I placed my orders... I got Cotton-wool ruffled placket cardigan one size up than my normal size cause it looks quite small... I hope I didn't make the wrong decision. Otherwise, maybe I can wash it shrink cause it has wool :P

The colors available for Featherweight cotton long cardigan has been changing pretty quickly. They didn't have mint julep last night, but they have it again this morning, so I grab it right the way!

  15. I am with Fabulous Florida Mommy. Nothing for me. Saving my $$$ for fall. I have a big box of returns too from the 30% off that was a few weeks ago. Only kept two items (and I like both a lot) and am returning MANY!!!

Maybe if this was 30% off I would bite but not 20% esp. with final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I know; 20% off is a letdown after the stores are running 30% -- + in some cases, the prices are cheaper to begin with. Makes me a pirate--arrgghh!

But I still love select JCrew items and placed a $200 order this AM first thing :-D

(PS: any word on the suckered ginghams? Do they fit the same as a perfect shirt? Are they nice? TIA!)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm anti final-sale, so won't be using this even if I see a pop-back I've wanted. Hate not being able to return without a hassle.

I see this mostly as a last-ditch attempt to get rid of all the junk from spring & summer they couldn't move. I was at my closest store over the weekend, after the 30% was instituted, and the back was still overflowing with unravelling tees & row upon row of super-short skirts. Hope HQ makes a note, since it seems to be the same in every store.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ugh! I think I want the cotton-wool ruffled placket cardi, but not for FS. Oh well...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Karen: are you talking about the suckered gingham perfect shirt or just the suckered gingham shirt? (There are two different ones...confusing!) I have the perfect shirt version and sized down to the lower end of my size spectrum and it fits perfectly. Not sure about the regular suckered shirt version. HTH!

  20. Does anyone know if the stores price adjust on final sale purchases. I bought things last week with the FS 20%..now its 30%.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nothing for me this time. My last several purchases have been mistakes/flawed/immediately destroyed, so I'm not risking getting stuck with final sale. Holding out hope that fall offerings will be better.

Speaking of which, I saw a JC fall jacket in the August issue of InStyle. It was a glen plaid hacking jacket in fall earth tones. It looked old school J. Crew--very preppy, and relatively pricey at $325. Fortunately, I have an earlier version of this jacket from circa 1993, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Piccione, it does run a little small so probably a good idea to size up. But that's why I'm not ordering it on FS

    ReplyDelete
  23. crewfan, I'm pretty sure that their final sale policy is a no-price adjustment one. That said, like everything else in retail, it's worth asking since exceptions to all the rules are made.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Math Teacher, I had the same experience. The hyacinth jackie was full priced in the store and when I pointed out to the SA that they were on sale online, she said she couldn't give me an adjustment, but that she could order it through the red phone and waive the shipping (I didn't take her up on it). My mom was with me and she was outraged - she used to work at J. Jill and Nordstrom and she said that price adjustments like that were given on the spot.

Speaking of the jackie cardigan, I'd like to get one to go with my watercolor garden skirt. Has anyone found a color that matches especially well? I was thinking of the hyacinth, but with final sale, I don't want to risk it not looking right.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LaurenPhD, my ps said that they had a new regional manager who was very strict with that policy. The (new) manager said that online prices are different b/c of limited stock (yeah, whatever). My b&m had almost every color jackie that's on sale for full price. Just doesn't make sense to me. I'm hoping that my fav manager will let me have the sale price (since I'm in there so much and buy quite a bit). I know JC isn't the only store that has different prices like that, but I don't like it nor do I understand it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. mathteacher, what your Regional said is in direct contrast to what Alexis' SA said! ha! if there is infinite warehouse space and that is why things aren't on sale for as much why are some things less online? too much back and forth. i'm shocked that they wouldn't paj for their own merchandise too.

  27. I read last week on bichonluvr's blog that this was gonna happen... I checked late last night (MST) and saw that the code was up on the site. Put a few "basics" in my cart and decided to sleep on them. I'm still sleeping on them... Final Sale is just so risky. Even if I know an item fits (perfect shirts, jackies), I may not like the colours... so then i'd be stuck with them. Decisions, decisions... ARRRGHGHGH...

    ReplyDelete
  28. If you are debating a size or color, try calling your PS or customer service. I called about sizing for a skirt, and the gentleman ordered my entire shopping bag + 20% off with free shipping. He also included a note on the order that indicates if the skirt does not fit, I may return it. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Speaking of sales and customer service issues, the Lands End Canvas sale is still on. Today I received a handwritten note thanking me for my order (the pleated cotton dress, which is adorable). If anyone is interested, here is a free shipping code (no minimum, expires 7/16):

    Code: INFORMAL
    PIN: 2944

  30. I picked up a couple of perfect-fit tees and a pair of cropped matchsticks. Threw in a few items for DH and pulled the trigger. There really wasn't much I wanted, other than the bling-button cardis, which were back to full price as others have said. Not impressed with that move J.Crew.

It's been a pretty lacklustre spring/summer at J.Crew IMHO. Hopefully fall is much more exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I ordered two of the gingham perfect shirts in two colors, a jackie in sand dune and two pair of shorts (full price). None of the sale items rang up with the red FS notice and if they ship that way, I don't anticipate problem returning these items to a B&M(if I need to). A couple of things I put in my cart (V-necked ruched dress for one) did come up with the red "warning" so I deleted them before checking out.I order a lot during final sales but have never had a problem returning items, as long as they weren't marked FS at checkout. Maybe the Austin TX stores are more flexible than some?!

  33. txmom,

All stores are different if you read this blog long enough. Mine is very strict and I had to get special permission from the manager to return an item that did not look the same as online and I felt was misrepresented. Luckily, he agreed with me.

I also got stuck with that ugly yellow color: sour lemom from a few summers ago. So, now, final sale is a never buy for me.

  35. These price adjustment issues are so odd. Usually I am in the opposite position--trying to get catalog to match the much-cheaper B&M price, and I get the line about B&M having different price policies because they have limited space for inventory, the need to adjust for regional sales differences, etc. (i don't live near enough to a store to get there often.). Because customers can shop both ways, it would seem to make us more likely to view the company as a single entity rather than less so. JMO.

  37. Placed some CC jacket, skirts for my daughter, seaside madras shirt, cashmere v-neck cardigan. Some of these are my reorder since JC wouldn't give price adjustments on sale items.

This price discrepancy is just so unfair for customers who don't have access to a B&M near by (B&M *usually* have lower prices sooner, right?). My close B&M closed down recently and now my closets one is 30 miles away. Not to mention Canadian shoppers who have to pay high duties.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks, Nichi! It's just like I imagined the colour to be.

  39. I've had my eye on a jacket that was on sale, but refused to buy until the price was lower. So with this discount I pulled the trigger.

Just to note, the jacket did not come up as "final sale," but a bracelet I purchased did. Interesting that not all sale items are final sale ... only some of them are. I'm just glad the jacket wasn't so I have the option to return it. Paying $100 for something that I'll never wear is not cool.

I'd recommend checking out the different items to see if you can find non-final sale items in there too.

  42. I must have missed it previously, but did anyone happen to notice the Scattered flower henley in tarnished brass (item 27741)? OMG! No surprise that abomination is on final sale! It looks like someone cleaned out the chicken coop and glued the sticky, feathery mess to the front of a henley tee.

Jenna-- you know I adore you, but while you are out giving another "borrowed from the boys" interview, nobody was minding your designers back at the mother ship!

  43. I swore off final sales unless I get to try them on in B&M first.

Tired of paying ebay and paypal fees for items that I can't return.

  44. Lauren PhD, not sure you'll be checking back, but if you do can you comment on Land's End Canvas sizing? Do you take the same size you would in J. Crew?

    Thanks!

  45. So I dumped everything out of my shopping cart and will not partake in this latest promo. Final Sale is just so...final. Anyway, I consoled myself by checking out the new colours available for the classic cashmere cardigans and shells that are in the regular price section. Really liking the heathered shades. So I have those to look forward to come Christmas sale season, haha.

  46. This morning I placed an order which included the Jackie Cardigan in hyacinth. I had my cart ready to checkout but decided to shower first so I could think over my order and make sure I wasn't acting too impulsively (of course, I knew I was). Well, when I got back I changed my mind on one item and picked another item and the shopping cart and confirmation email did NOT show the Jackie cardigan as "final sale". I just checked the website and it's back to final sale.

Lucky me, but not cool that the website is not being updated consistently.

  47. I ordered 5 things on Friday night (the embroidered ikat pencil skirt, lattice popover blouse, lace panel camisole in sea spray, the skimmer pant in natural and a pair of bikini bottoms). When I saw this email this morning I was a bit steamed but only the bikini bottoms are final sale and I think there's a chance with the other 4 things I might want to return some of them...so extra 20% and final sale may be more expensive to me in the long run...Still...I was like "Arrrghhh!"

I'm pretty excited to receive these items esp. the camisole and the ikat skirt both of which I have been intrigued with for a while...

Any suggestions about what to wear with the camisole? I love the combination of the soft blue green color with the neon green lace. Right now, I'm picturing it with my white denim matchstick crops or maybe light rinse jeans...

  48. I'm currently eyeing my cart, which contains the Fleurette pencil skirt, the Ink blossom pencil skirt, Drapey Drexel plissé skirt, a Jackie, and a tee.

Any advice on how these pencil skirts fit? I'm so tempted!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Post-fab princess, I size down for regular Land's End, but I wear the same size in Land's End Canvas that I do in JC (though I've only tried LEC sweaters and dresses). I'm slightly pear-shaped (4 on top, 6 on bottom) and the LEC dress in 4 fit perfectly. I hope that helps!

  50. Lauren, I had to size up from my normal JC pencil skirt size for the fluerette pencil skirt. Not sure about the others.

  51. Just got back from a quick visit to the Barton Creek Store in Austin. Lots of t's and various chinos on sale. I was hoping to try on a few items that I am considering ordering but want to make sure they fit if they are final sale....30% off sale is still in effect in the store until they are told it's over (per the SA). Tried on the ruffled Carly dress in white in a 2 but was hoping to find it in navy in a 0....does anyone know how these run? The 2 was OK but pretty roomy. Just don't want it to be too short! They also had the scalloped zipper cardigan in the oatmeal heather but at full price and was told they cannot do a price adjustment even though it is on sale online. Oh well.

  52. If anyone is eyeing the crystal tides necklace and/or bracelet, I placed an order this morning for both of them in the crystal color. The bracelet showed up as FS, but the necklace did not. Good news for me since I might decide I don't need another sparkly necklace!

  54. Not sure if I should get the blue twill minnies I put on hold. I already bought the denim minnies, plus I have the black and charcoal colors in twill. If I do get the blue minnies, then I'll have to return the denim ones as I don't think I'll need another pair of blue pants. Help, please! I need a second opinion :)

  55. Lauren - I agree w/math teacher about the fleurette being 1 size too small. I have links to all the skirts you have your eye on in this post. Once you get to the post w/the irl pics, there are links to other bloggers who have tried on the same. Hope this helps. I got the plisse & ink blossom and like them quite a bit. I expect them to transition to fall. Actually, I probably won't wear either till very close to fall.

  56. If nobody bought final sale, they would not offer final sale. I sent the following email to Alexis earlier:

I am in an ongoing state of confusion about how the customer service reps at the store will handle "final sale" items that are not marked final sale on the receipt. I was digging around on the Internet, and found this tidbit, which answers a lot of questions. It is frustrating and seemingly invasive, that they "rate" their customers and market accordingly:

    "Marketing and Advertising

The J.Crew catalog is the primary branding and advertising vehicle for the J.Crew brand. We believe our catalog reinforces the J.Crew mission and image as well as drives sales in all of our channels. Our direct sales channels enable us to maintain a database of customer sales patterns and we are thus able to target segments of our customer base with specific marketing. Depending on their spending habits, we send certain customers special catalog editions and/or emails."

It was from this website, where they are beholden to explaining What We All Wonder About to their stockholders:
    http://seekingalpha.com/symbol/jcg/description

Makes me lose my appetite for J Crew.

  58. I have tried to add a couple of items to my cart from Final Sale and they just will not go in! I will take that as a sign that J Crew doesn't want me to have them.

Also noticed with the Alecia suede platforms that 2 colours are on FS aat $199.99 and two are not, but at the slightly lower price of $198.

That seems weird. I guess the J Crew logic is too much for me to figure out!

  59. I bought the wildcat ombre pencil skirt and the black blossom elastic belt.

I was at the B&M late last week and there was a major surplus of the rather ugly art tees. In fact, there was an entire wall of them. I hope there is not another twist on these in next month's offerings.

Alexis, congrats on your NY Times Magazine mention!

  60. Gigi-

How is the weight/fabric on the ink blossom? Possible to wear in the fall with boots?

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thinking about ordering the Cleo basket weave wedges ($139.99 before discount). Hoping they're still there in a week, because my card got stolen and I'm waiting on a new one :( They arent in my nearest store, so I might have to take the chance with the final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Kris, the ink blossom skirt is a rather weighty linen-like weave. I didn't look at the fabric content but it's a nicely textured weave that could easily be worn in the fall w/boots. I didn't try it on so don't know whether it wrinkles easily, but it felt similar to the weave & thickness of the impressionist pencil skirt. Hope that helps... thought I'd chime in in case Gigi doesn't see this.

  63. Math Teacher, I was denied the online price for a Jackie this weekend by one SA. Today I had to do a return and went in with a print out of a mock order with the sale prices on it, and they OK'ed the PA, and I'd get the 30% off from instore instead of the 20% online sale. ???

It is so head spinning trying to navigate the contradictory puckey that passes for policy sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  64. OT but does anyone have advice about a shipping issue?

An order I placed well over 2 weeks ago is still not here. The UPS tracking indicates the package has criss-crossed the continent twice.

They have put in a "rescheduled" delivery date that is still days away and will make it close to a 3 week wait.

I already had to give up on getting it and buy a replacement for an event I attended this past weekend.

As you know, when we Canadians order we pay a much higher cost because of the taxes and duty added, so it really rankles me.

Anyone have experience with this, and what did you do? If you complained to J Crew did they offer any assistance? This order WAS free shipping though, so maybe I don't have a right to complain.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mia,

I would contact customer service and explain to them this issue. I had an issue with shipping some time ago and they were so helpful and even sent me a $20 gift card as an apology too. Best of luck

  66. Thanks Christine - nice to know they were receptive to your complaint.
I just sent them an email, so we'll see what happens.

Ironically, the second half of the order, which was backordered, is actually going to arrive BEFORE the first part!

  67. I went to the Tysons B&M today, and saw...

    - a handful of featherweight cotton bling-button cardigans, mostly L, XL and a couple S, still 30% off as of Monday
    - jackies in an array of colors... (including some online FS ones) all FP! D: Honestly, it makes me want to go to the crewlet... because I have 3 jackies from there that I got for under $20 each.
    - a million embellished tees.
    - an overabundance of fringe tunics, mostly the neon pink one (I think they're cute!)
    - a good selection of skimmer pants (all colors but orchid shadow), of which I bought in natural and irish moss. I'm going to have a lot of fun matching tops up with the irish moss color! It's very rich and warm, and I think the color works well with my black hair and tan complexion. BTW, the natural was $35, while the irish moss was $21... :\
    - the crystal carlyle necklace, which I snagged for $35 after 30% off!

@Karen: the gingham perfect shirts are slightly boxier than the other perfect shirts, IMO. The bust is the same, but the fit around the torso/waist is a little looser than, say, the island paisley perfect shirt.

    HTH! Whoo!

  69. So - in everyone's experience:

If you put something in your cart and it shows up as Final Sale - but when you come back to it later and go to check out and it is NO LONGER denoted as final sale - returnable? Or no?

    Thanks!

  70. I caved, bit the big one, and ordered the Hockney Tote. I recently got a new job after being unemployed for a year and deserved a splurge- especially on something I will use every day!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I bought the Fleurette bustier dress in my store for $62 ($89 sale price and then the additional 30% off) this past weekend but was surprised to get home and find out that it's still full price online. (And in case it helps anyone else, I had to size up one in the dress, but I am busty, so that could account for it.)

    ReplyDelete
  72. So I picked out a few things last night when I got home to mull over. I looked a couple of hours later and the items have disappeared from the cart, so things are selling out. Good for the JCA's who are picking up on things that they love/can use/have tried on so they know they fit. Me? Guesses on all fronts.

I've noticed that in general (and I'm sure you'd agree as this is JC, there's no hard and fast 100% rule) if an item is priced with a .99 ending it's Final Sale, where as if the price ends in .00 or .50 it's not. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm slightly tempted by the sale jackies, but I already own most of the flattering jackie colors, and I have more sweaters than I can possibly ever wear, so I won't be shopping this sale.

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Kristin...shoot I bought it full price online, I wonder if I email/call cs, they'll adjust pricing for the fleurette dress, I also size up in dresses cuz of the bust but I think the dress-skirt sizing for jcrew is pretty on target for what their sizing chart is---i always reference the hips and bust bc if those are the most important "parts" that need to fit. For those that ordered pre-the promo this weekend, they adjusted and let me have the promo (I ordered on Sunday...but they still let me get 20% off my final sale items...*just this one time* :)

    --sort of happier jcrew customer.

  75. Molly, if when you checkout it doesn't say FS on the final screen, it definitively isn't FS. I got the same "glitch" plenty of times and I was always able to return items to a B&M (not sure about returning them to the warehouse but they weren't marked final sale on the plastic bag nor the invoice so I don't see why they shoud make problems).

    ReplyDelete
  76. Molly: in my experience, if it wasn't marked "final sale," I never had any problems returning.

Gigi: thank you! I have ordered the ink blossom (a bit wary of pencil skirts, but trying to change this!) and it will soon be mine, yay!

I ended up grabbing the Ink blossom skirt, two Jackies, an art tee (at $7.99) to go under the Jackies, and the Drapey Drexel plisse skirt (thanks for the review, Ema!). Very excited :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Andddd just placed a second order for the sequin necklace tanks - in both colors. Only the gray came up as "final sale," however. FYI.

I am okay with paying the shipping for these two impulse items - at least I had the self control to remove the other $125 worth of stuff from my cart, so.. it ~could~ have been a harder hit on my wallet.
