J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Cass (in this post) who suggested a "weekly 'Did you try on/receive any JC items this week?' post where we could all "deposit" our reviews for various items". I think it is a brilliant idea. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Does anyone have pics/reviews of the Jericho pursette?? :) I saw one on the mannequin at the Tysons B&M, and I wonder if they'd sell it to me... it's all sold out online.

  2. here's some info on a couple items I haven't seen too much about...I'll be happy to send pics if anyone's interested :-)

I *finally* found the starling heels in rose gold, and they run about a half size small. Drop dead gorgeous, I wore mine today with some ripped jeans and a button-down. Pricey, but amazing. If you have been salivating over them, go for it. If you don't think they look great, I'd avoid. But I see them as my go-to shoes later this year (I live in TX where they should work most winter). Anyhow, a little narrow (duh), but ridiculously comfortable. Love, love, love.

I got the luxe sweatpants, and also love them. I've been wearing them with heels and a drapey t-shirt. I think they run a size big if you want them tight, or TTS if you're going for a baggier look. They're super cheap in stores if you can find them, worth a shot.

I think I've commented on this before, but I've seen some people ask about it - the chino bubble skirt is amazing. I actually paid FP for it in mushroom, and am debating getting the lighter one, but I think it's too unique to have multiples. Runs TTS, I got a small and it's perfect. I'm 5'8" and it still is decent length on me, but it's def a miniskirt, so if you want it lower, size up. And I'm pretty hippy compared to my waist, but it looks great. The folds and bubbles kind of make it look like you can't tell if it's skirt or hips. If you like the look on the model, then go for it!

I've got the rimini cardigan and denim vest on the way, so keeping my fingers crossed they'll fit right. I feel like they can be amazing or a hot mess....so much of their stuff works that way and you never really know until you get it on...

  3. It's probably not that helpful for me to review a s/o item from last year, but I just have to say that I received my papaya Aurora sandals (purchased on eBay) and I just looove them. Truly a special item. There are a few pair available on eBay. These are TTS to slightly small and half sizes should go up rather than down.

  4. Hi Chrissy,
Yes a mannequin at my store is wearing one too. Everything the mannequins wear is for sale and a purse isn't even that hard to remove! The one in my store is gray and i took it off to check it out. I liked it but worried that the button thing used as a closure would vex me....
    Good luck!
    Maggie

  6. If anyone has the linen charter skirt, could you please comment on sizing? I have the deco skirt from last fall in a 6. Does the charter skirt run the same or do I have to size up? TIA

  7. Swim suit review:
Solid Rosette Halter top- Size Small in bright Seaside
Solid Ruched waist Skirt-Size Xsmall in Bright Seaside
(for reference: I am 34A cup and take size O in most JCrew pants/skirts)
This is a cute suit! The skirt has some fullness to it in the back, but is more flat across in the front. Fit is tight (which I like in a swim suite). I am semi-flat chested so the top works well; but it has no support. I also tried the Solid tie-front underwire halter top-which I liked a lot more in fact; more support. I would take a 2 in that.
I wore it in the water yesterday--wow, big mistake :-D The skirt hangs really long when wet, and I think they forgot to line the bottoms! I am not sure what the top looks like wet, as I was too afraid.
Overall-nice for sitting around, but I will not wear JCrew suits in the water!!
Disappointed, and wonder if JCrew in the past has used this material always? It certainly in not "typical" swimsuit material, so I am now looking for a suit with material like a speedo etc.

  8. I tried the Demetra heels after getting a 20% off code. I ordered the copper dust color in my usual size 7. I have normal to narrow feet and found it hard to get my toes in and under the front strap. It doesn't have any give. I thought it would be somewhat stretchy. Also, the two tone effect with the toe band being a different color than the leather on the body of the shoe is more jarring in person than in the website picture. Once they were on and I walked around the house a bit, I found them comfortable. There is a small platform and a 3 1/4" heel that is very walkable. I had plenty of room in the back of the shoe so I don't think I could have sized up in order to get more room in the front. All in all I am not wowed so I will be returning.

  9. I have had JC staff remove stuff from mannequins and displays for me before, I can't imagine there would be an issue getting the purse. Heck, I've plucked stuff off of mannequins before :-)

  10. i bought the sardinia espadrilles in dusty blossom. first of all, they were not light pink like i expected, they were more of a light beige with a pinkish brown tone. also, i have narrow feet and had a hard time getting them on, the cloth is really tight. i can see how that would be a good thing, in keeping the shoes on, but if you have wider feet you may be sized out of them completely for that reason. i ended up returning them because of the disappointing color.

i also ordered the lightweight cotton tunic top in bronzed clay (color was as expected), which was okay, but not my style. definitely size down unless you want an over-sized fit.

  11. Don't know if this is the place to post BUT:

    WARNING - Ebay seller "pinkcountry"

LOTS of problems with this seller...they have a lot of J. Crew items BUT not worth the hassle I'm going through! Shoes took three weeks to get and then were covered in black marks!! Description said "NEW"

    Be careful

  12. Chrissy, I have the Jericho pursette in mink - bought during a promo early on - and love the leather and size. I grab it often and don't have any issues with the button closure. It seems to go with everything!

I loved the leather so much I bought the Jericho hobo in the same color when it went on sale.

  13. Ok, here are some items that I have recently received:

*Sequined Starland Tank- I am usually a size 0 but went up to a size 2 on this one because the sequins felt funny under my arms otherwise. Got the neon quartz because I thought it would go with more and also because the red sequins give it a nice pop of color.
*Fiore Cotton Cardi-looks fabulous with the neon melon cami under it. Fits TTS.
*Featherweight Cotton Bling-Button Cardi-LOVE LOVE LOVE these, but was SUPER bummed to see that they went back to regular price when the FS started. I did size up to a Small in these for a more comfortable fit. Super soft, and the colors are yummy.
*Tabitha Leather T-Strap Sandals-I got these in the Tawny Brown color and the first time I wore them (to a ballgame) I had two people stop me (at different times!!) and tell me how "feminine" my feet looked! LOL. These really looked great with the Impressionist Cami and the Marseilles Floral Cami both of which I love (sized up to a 2 in both for more room under the arm).
*Piped and Twisted Pocket Cardi-I wanted to love this after seeing it multiple times at the Easton J Crew...however, the length was def not for me!! I am 5'3" and weigh 103 pounds and it engulfed me.
*Petite Gingham Schoolboy Blazer-tried my usualy 2P and didn't like the way it fit across the back. Returned for a 4P which should be arriving today. Keeping my fingers crossed because I really love my Schoolboy Blazer in Bright Coral.
*Canterbury Bells Cardi-I got this in the Abyss Blue color yesterday and it is so beautiful. I also received the Sequined Raye Tank in the same order(got size S in the sweater, but could have easily taken the XS and took an XS in the tank). I wore the two together last night and got TONS of compliments!!
*Wildcat Ombre Pencil Skirt-what can I say? Another incredible pencil skirt in a smashing print from J Crew!! I got a 2 in this because I couldn't my usual size 0 and it fits nicely.
*Beacon Tote-I would have to say that the jury is still out on this one. I got it in the Burnished Yellow (a shade that will make many of my J Crew coats really stand out with a nice pop of color during the dreary winter months should I decide to keep it). The only problem is that it is HUGE. Does anyone else have this bag? Is it supposed to look so gigantic? Now on the upside it will hold everything that I need when attending my son's football and soccer games (I am the mom with the complete first aid kit in her purse because I am such a huge worrier!!)

I am sorry that this post was so long. I will post again when I get the Gingham Schoolboy in 4P.

Have a great day everyone...and a great looking day since most of you are probably wearing something J Crew!!

  17. My mom and I recently both tried on the fiesta floral tunic, which is one sale in stores but full price online. My mom is quite a bit taller and curvier than I am and the large looked really good on her (she bought it). I tried on the extra-small (I am usually a small or 4 in JC tops) and it was huge on me. We then held up the two tops together and noticed that there is only about an inch of difference on the sides and length between an extra-small and a large. Strange.

  18. @CDP: Thanks for the input! I think I might use my student discount and grab one at the B&M... Sometimes you just need a small purse, instead of a torso-sized hobo, y'know? (I lose things even in my Coach medium/small hobo) :P

  19. I too love my Jericho pursette. I have it in mink & the closure is not a problem. I bought it right after I saw it online. I knew it will disappear fast with crossbody bags being popular right now. It's great for running short errands, fits my iphone, keys, wallet, make-up items. The lather is lovely: soft & buttery. Highly recommended.

  20. Fiore Cotton Cardigan: petal edges snagged my silk JCrew cami. Really mad. Returned it ASAP through the mail after talking with my PS. Pretty but unfinished edges not worth it!

Spots and Sparkles cami: I am not a fan of animal prints but LOVED this one when I tried it on; so did my daughter on me:) I paid $35 for mine online during a sale. Cannot believe the $15 price others got at the stores. Wish online and stores were the same price but thought I got a good price at the time. Can be so frustrating to shop at JCrew sometimes. Don't experience that feeling with other retailors though.

Fleurette pencil skirt. Others have said this runs small. NOT FOR ME. I ordered both my regular size and a size up. Regular pencil skirt size fit just fine. So while reviews can be helpful body type plays a big part. Hope this helps someone else esp. with final sale going on now!!!

  21. JCrew Junkie-Great review! On the tabithas, did you size up or down for the half size? (I'm a true 7.5)

  22. milljcrew,

thanks for the heads up! i had a few pairs of shoes of theirs on my watch list, but i'm always skeptical when they're listed for so cheap! now i know i was right to be skeptical!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Milljcrew, are you referring to pinkcountry77, perhaps? I just checked my watching list (I am always watching at least 20 J.Crew things!) and I am watching two pairs of shoes by that seller. Or maybe pinkcountry77 is their new id... sounds shady.

  24. savvy shopper - You can see of a review of the linen charter skirt in this post. There's a link to another blogger's irl pics as well.

Maggie - Thanks for the review of the bubble skirt. I hope it works out for me.

Today's review is of the Effie scarf dress, which is on fs.

  25. The Haya Two Toned Pullover runs on the big side, I received my usual size and it is very roomy. The neck opening is too big, it gaps and does not lie flat on the neck. The material is thick and substantial and it is well made.

  26. Karen, that's really bizarre. What use is a swimsuit that can't be worn in the water?

Like Clicquot, I've shopped the mannequins many times. My BF looked on in horror recently as I undressed a male mannequin in Gap that was wearing the shirt he wanted. :P

Lauren PhD, I've noticed the same thing. Sometimes the XS,S,M,L,XL are nearly indistinguishable and sometimes there's a huge difference between the sizes. I suspect that that's why some people will describe an item as "running small" and others will insist it's tts or large. Or, like Genny said, it can depend on body type.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I bought the Jericho pursette in seashore beige (caramel brown) a couple months back but returned it immediately because it looked nothing like the picture!

Their description says it's supposed to be "inspired" by rain/sand/dust or whatever, but it looked like someone took a giant eraser and took off patches of color randomly! WHen I returned it, the cashier told me some other people had returned the same exact item for the same reason.

  28. first time posting!
nobelle,I got the Ares metallic gold plastform heels a while ago, and LOVE it. It's very comfortable and I think it runs TTS. (My feet are on the narrow/flat side though.) I usually wear 5h in JCrew heels and sandals and it fit me perfectly. I think the leather will stretch.

I also have the Piped and Twisted Pocket Cardi (navy)- it's definitely on the long side, and I'm about the same size as jcrewjunkie (5'3" and around 100 lbs) but I like the long-length look. It went great with a knee-length knit dress I got (no longer online...25508)!

  29. I have to agree with Genny on the Fleurette pencil skirt. I tried both the 2 and the 0 (my normal size) in my store and ended up getting the 0, which fit like a normal pencil silhouette. The 2 sat lower than my natural waist and fit much too loosely around my legs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree with the other posters about the Fleurette pencil skirt. I took my regular size 2. I have about 10 J crew pencil skirts, and while some fit a little snugger than others, this one didn't warrent sizing up. It fit men the exact same way the Unagi pencil skirt did. A little tigher in the hip and thigh, but a size up would have been too big everywhere else.

  31. On Maggies' word(and despite my lengthy rant from this morning, lol), I toodled over to my B&M at lunchtime to investigate the chino bubble skirt (item 26369), reg price $69.50, reduced to $39.99 and - 30% (FS) = $32.99.

I need to say first off that both of the photos on the Web site are HORRIBLE. Had Maggie not mentioned it and said specifically that it was flattering for hippy girls (me), I'd never have looked at it, but the Web photos make it 100x worse!

My store only had the pale oak color, so I can't comment on the wild mushroom hue. I was dubious myself, but when I pulled it on with the charcoal sequin necklace tank on top ... LOVE! It's hard to see from the Web photos, but the skirt ever so slightly swooshes to one side, it's hard to explain. And the chino is very lightweight and kinda crinkled up in IRL, and that's how I plan to keep it. They mush have steamed the one they used in the photo shoot.

So I was shocked, but happy. I encourage anyone who's been looking for a poofy little skirt for summer to check it out! I do think it might be a bit too short to wear to work -- I am 5'7" and it hits me mid-thigh. My plan is to always keep my top half very fitted while wearing it, like just a favorite tank or something.

I tried on a LOT of other things, including several tees and tops marked down to $14.99, but I didn't feel anything when I put them on. Among the stranger things was a short cotton skirt in a Liberty-like, small-scale floral print (blue and yellow) on a wild mushroom (light sepia ..?) background ... the tag said Collection but I can't find it anywhere online. That was dreadful and made my hips look a mile wide, same for the cottom pimm skirt.

And that's about it! HTHs someone.

So in the end, I picked up the sequin necklace tank, which I already have (and love) in the mushroom color, the bubble skirt, the Impressionist pencil skirt (after much debating over the past week or so -- what tipped me was seeing it paired with an olive top instead of the more predictable pink), another pair of vintage matchsticks ($13.99 after discount, how can I lose?) and a pair of shorts for my son.

  33. I purchased the Prism necklace and bracelet set during the last sale and have to say I was somewhat disappointed. I purchased the Infinity set earlier in the year and love the quality. The Prism set is a real downer in comparison. The links on the bracelet lock and don't flow nicely. The drops on the necklace flip every which way and I have to keep smoothing them down. Would return them except it's such a hassle from Canada.

I would not recommend buying this at full price. Wait for a huge markdown if you're interested.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Karen-I wear a size 7 and the Tabitha sandals fit TTS. If you wear a 7.5 I think that I would try the 8. HTH.

Elaine-Which olive top did they show with the Impressionist Pencil Skirt.

Genny-Thanks so much for the heads up on the snagged cami. I will be super careful when I wear mine with the Fiore Cardi.

I also forgot to add that I got the Seaglass Fringed Tunic in a size 2. While I wouldn't have paid FP for it, I do think that it is pretty and I was very comfortable wearing it at my younger son's double header baseball game in 97 degree heat.

  35. I recently bought three of the Loreli cotton dresses. I got them in black, spotted blue, and the antique purple. All are gorgeous, light and airy and they have an extra strap so they hold up well. Love them. They also look fantastic with a wide belt and peep toe heels so they can be dressed up or down for dinner or the beach. I am very really happy with these purchases :).

I also bought the embrodiered IKAT skirt. I also love this, its a heavier cotton, sturdy, and the IKAT design makes it look straight out of Central Asia (the region where my husband is from). Its good for the air conditioned office and probably would hold up well into fall with tights. It won't wrinkle. It might be too hot though for a sweltering muggy DC day though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. jcrewjunkie, i think it was one of those perfect shirts that are dogging the sale racks now -- the ones that are all crinkled up. if they go down in price more, I'd consider it, but I have a few things at home that i think will work well -- a Cherie top in keylime (not exactly olive, but greeny-yellow, and it will look nice with the gradation of green in the impressionist print) and also the petal-neck cami, which is a true olive with yellow undertones. HTHs!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I received the Castillo eyelet cami. I like it - fit is a little big (I sized down to a 2, usually a 4 in perfect shirts, etc.) and it is a bit sheer but not too much. The eyelet detail is very pretty, looks nice with the wildcat ombre skirt.

  43. I completely agree with Maggie and Elaine- the chino bubble skirt is so cute! I got the pale color. It's def better IRL than the photo on the website. (more crinkled and poofy IRL) And there were a lot of them in all sizes in stores.

Lizzy T, I think you can't really go wrong with the skirt if the top is fitted, as Elaine said. Some of those art tees may look great as well, for a really casual look...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks to Sasha and Elaine. I just ordered that skirt. I got the lighter color and think it will look nice with the glitter petals tee that I got for $7 :)

  45. Chic Chauffer-yes, order half size down! In fact, call a personal shopper to get a good measurement. I ordered my real 7.5 in the gold macallister, and def. needed a 7. HTH!

  49. I recently bought the Cascade ruffle dress. I paid full price in-store but now it is on sale for $49.99. I have the dark fray color. I love this dress. It has an exposed zipper in the back which gives it a little bit of a rock and roll vibe; I love that it hits me at the knee rather than being a mini (all JC dresses and skirts seem to be mini these days); it looks great with a brown leather belt worn high right below the bodice. Very sexy on it's own but you could wear a light cardigan over it if you want to wear to work. I don't wear a bra with it as I'm fairly small chested but I'm not sure how supportive it would be for larger chests.

Just got my "Your J Crew order has shipped" email!! Now the countdown til they arrive on my doorstep. I LOVE these review posts...I will review what I am getting in the mail next time this post shows up....

  51. I know this is a little late but I have been in bed all day sick as a dog, so I guess better late than never (and thank goodness for hubby's flexible workplace. I see they have come back into stock, so here goes. I bought the A.R. Trapp troubadour sunglasses in the japanese havana colorway and I love them. I have a pretty detailed explanation of what drew me to them, and why I could justify saving up for them (no way, no how could I just get them without saving up for them). The review is intermixed with other info on how I use Inspiration Boards to help me with my personal style, so if that isn't your thing, just swoop on down halfway through the post and you can see IRL photos of the glasses and info.

    Hope that helps someone.

  53. Lizzy - I think the ruffled carley dress is super cute. I wouldn't say that I'm particular pear shaped but I do have hips and I didn't feel like the dress made me look big in anyway. The material is pretty substantial and stuctured.

  55. I picked up the Fleurette pencil skirt tonight (59.99 - 30% = 41.99). I had to size up one, but other than that it's another great JC pencil skirt. I also lucked out and scored the Watercolor garden pencil skirt for 39.99 - 30% = 27.99!

  56. Lizzy -- I have the Impressionist floral cami in golden beach and LOVE it. I am busty (36D) so wear a large, and many tops make me look fat. This one fits perfectly and really flatters. If you are a different body type, you may not like it, but I highly recommend it.

  57. OT, and sorry for the cross-post, but ...

Are you a size 4 and looking for a BELLA jacket?

Someone on ebay is selling one for only $39.99 Buy It Now + $5 to ship. Item # 250666067744 (NOT my auction).

I'd jump on it myself if it would fit me, but it won't. HTHs someone! Love those Bella jackets! :-D

  58. Aaarrrgggh .... you guys are killing me! My store had a ruffled Carly dress in stock today and I almost tried it on, but it looked so shapeless on the hanger ... once you take in the waist just a bit as ABC did, it looksso much better! Hmmm, we shall see if it's still there this weekend.

Lizzy, I am also a fan of the Impressionist floral cami, but I had to size WAY down. I'm pretty much flat as a board, but when I tried on my regular size, the place where it gapped was at the underarms -- I could pull it out 2 or 3 inches on each side! I ended up buying a 4, and I am usually an 8 and *maybe* (rarely) a 6 if something fits a little tight.

Last I saw, it was $29.99 - 30% off. HTHs!

  59. Has anyone commented on the Solid Ripstop Field Jacket? What does it look like IRL and does it fit TTS? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I recently bought the ripstop cargoes, which are on sale for 19.99 in-stores but 39.99 online. I usually wear either a 2 or 4 in J Crew bottoms, and I went with the 2 for these pants. The bigger size fit, but the smaller size looked better.

I also recently tried on the ruffled carly dress. It's super cute and I really liked it, but it was MUCH too short for me to wear to work, which was what I was thinking of getting it for. I am 5'8" though so I think it would be a much better length on someone a couple inches shorter. One of the sales associates had the dress on and I'd guess she was 5'6" or so and it looked great.

    ReplyDelete
  61. For anyone that has a velvet bella jacket, how would you say the sizing is on it? I usually wear a 0 or 2 in jackets but I hear the bella's run small. Would a size 4 work for me as well? Thanks!

  62. I adore my baby pink Thompson tote but it's gotten dirty after taking it on the train a couple of times - how do you recommend cleaning off dirt without messing up the leather?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Pink Maple - warning on the ripstop cargos pants- I bought a pair and LOVED them but after only a month they developed holes (large holes) around the pocket seams. So sad and disappointing. But JC did take them back for a full refund. So then I ordered another pair. Before I even tried them on I looked and yes, they have holes. Hope you have better luck with your cargos because they are SO cute.

  64. Hexicon -totally agree about the Aurora sandals from last Summer- I picked them up right when they went on sale and LOVE them! (worth seeking out on e-bay if interested)

Beacon tote in the metallic gold (that really looks silver'ish)- I have this and cannot say enough great things about it. But I am a fan of the huge bags and love the studded handles (which only the metallic ones have)

  65. Okay people, even though it's 105 degrees and humid until the monsoon finally breaks, I sucked it up and tried on the Rimini cardigan that arrived today.

Initial thoughts, I love it. It does what I hoped it would, define my waist. This is the same reason I loved last year's Maya cardigan. It hits me at high hip. I bought my regular cardi size which is XS. The sleeves are very long and the cuff part is quite long. The sleeves are also pretty snug. I imagine they'll loosen up a bit with wear but right now I'm not fitting a shirt sleeve in there. The cuffs are cute rolled back. It's a heavier knit than the Maya, probably had to be to hold that substantial zipper. I got the nutmeg which is a gorgeous rich fall color.

It's a keeper and I will probably think about picking it up in another color.

  66. dinagideon: I think those sunglasses look FAB on you. I have been in love with them as well but haven't been able to justify the hefty pricetag. I just bought regular glasses for myself and that was expensive enough--will have to live vicariously and love them from afar!

  67. Sasha, Thanks for your comment about the Ares!

  68. Any insight on the Whitby tall leather kitten-heel boots? I am always an 8 in crew shoes/boots, but the shaft of this looks big! But with the 20% it is a great price.

  69. Just wanted to post a review of the pindot bandeau bikini, it does NOT fit like the photo shows, it makes your chest look very flat and small, it's lined but not padded at all and where the side boning is, I find very it really awkward. I was sad but I had to return it because it did not fit well at all.

  70. HI!

Has anyone tried the blush stone color on (I'm looking at the long sleeve cashmere top). It looks great online and I'm wondering if it transfers to real life.

Also...does anyone have the Alecia's? I see they are on sale and wonder if they are worth it.

FYI: I saw some Oak Tweed skirts pop back this morning. I think they were an 8 and 12.

  71. Has anyone made successful outfits with the Yellow Linen Ombre Pencil Skirt? And, has anyone seen them languishing in a FS section lately? I'm a sucker for a good deal and the FS would certainly make me want to buy!

  72. Lisa,

Yes, I agree. Look great on Dina but that is what I pay for regular glasses and I need to buy some new frames and lenses ASAP! I tend to lose my sunglasses or drop them so I look for nice but inexpensive ones.

  73. Marisa, I have a bunch of outfits with that skirt! A few weeks ago I wore it with a navy top and a cognac belt and shoes. I've done a grey tee and cream sandals with some necklaces. I tried a camel colored linen safari style shirt with a black belt and sandals. I love that skirt.

  75. Momo, did you grab that Bella jacket last night? ;-) I actually was going to e-mail you about it, because I knew you were looking for one, but your post said you needed a 0 or a 2. I have 2 other Bella jackets and I think they run TTS, so hopefully it will not be too big for you in a 4. Cheers! :-D

  76. Lizzy T- do you shop at the North Ave store? I might be heading in Thurs and wanted to get a report IE do they have the chino bubble skirt everyone is talking me into? :-D If ya shop there, let me know! TIA

  77. Hi, Lisa and Genny:

LOL. You guys are cracking me up. If it weren't for the fact that I spent the majority of my late teens/early 20s buying mid-priced sunglasses and then losing or destroying each pair, I would not be as super-careful with the ones I own now. The two Boden pairs that I bought last summer (together less than 1/2 the cost of the A.R. Trapps) proved to me that I could take care of sunglasses, so I felt that with the money I saved up, plus the cost per wear, they would be worth it in the end.

Had I not immediately loved them or felt they suited me, I would absolutely have returned them. LOL.

I wish more sunglass companies would jump on the retro sunglasses bandwagon...I find that specs from the 50s and 60s looked amazing on almost everyone who wore them, and would flatter quite a few people today. That said, until more companies do the retro look, the price will be higher as there is more demand than supply (I mean for well-made, high quality sunglasses as opposed to the ones my hubby wears--you know, bought at CVS for $10). Maybe Boden can do a pair or two like this for next summer? Johnnie B., are you reading this??? :)

  78. Hi Karen,

I do shop @ the North Ave store. Might stop in today. If I do, I'll check on the skirts for you.

  79. Last quick review:

I found the sconset plaid shirt to run so large and to me it seemed unflattering as it only highlighted how small I am on top and did nothing to make me appear less big on bottom, so I pretty much gave up on its plaid prettiness (gorg colors). Then I spied the sconset plaid camp shirt for the kids in the crewcuts section. Bought it in a size 14, and it fits quite well as it is exactly right at my shoulders and waist. It also has a higher hip line, which I like much more on my pear-shaped body.

It was $48, and today it went down to $34.99...so with the extra 20 it is around $32. Don't worry, I called and they honored a price adjustment! Yay!

  80. Lizzy- thank you! Any word on what the overall store status looks like, what they have lots of etc, is *super* helpful--just deciding if it's worth a drive or just place an online order. Mucho gracias!

  81. Lizzy T- I just got Alecia heels (tobacco) yesterday for $104 (30% off 149.99!) Sooo beautiful, I love it. I usually wear 5h in Jcrew heels but the store only had size 6...I ended up buying it since it was such a good deal and the design allowed me to walk comfortably, even though they're a bit roomy for my feet. If you wear size 6, you might want to call my B&M store (703 734 9555) to see if they still have another color left...

  82. Dina, ITA 200% -- I actually bought an XS in the Sconset plaid shirt, and I haven't worn an XS anything since about 1997. LOL.

And I did see the other day that they had a kids' version ... I briefly contemplated buying it for my son so we could match, but then I came to my senses. :-P

  83. Desert Flower, would you say the yellow is really vibrant? Online the JC pic is a nice over-the-top brilliant yellow & on Gigi's blog it doesn't look quite so bright (could be the dressing room light)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Marisa, since the yellow is the ombre effect at the bottom it starts out fairly light, but I would say it is a pretty bright saturated yellow at the bottom. Hope that helps.

  85. Karen-
I was at North Ave this morning. They still have a lot of sale stuff. I got the impressionist top and the spots and sparkles top for $30 combined! It's mostly the same stuff. Lots of plaid shirts, tons of t's and shorts. They had three of the light chino bubble skirt (s, m, l) and one darker one (on the mannequin). HTH!

  86. Lizzy-thanks for reporting! I'll do an online order since I need Xsmalls, but I do want to stop in that shop, it's new since I moved out of the city :-D Hope you got lots of deals this time around!

  87. Dinagideon-

Great idea on the sconset shirt, I think I'm going to try it. If I normally take a 4 in perfect shirts, do you think a 12 would be better or the 14?

  89. Kris, I am now taking a 4 in perfect shirts (fits beautifully in the bust and shoulders) and I purchased the 14. The 12 would work for a size 0 or 2 lady. :) HTH!

I didn't get the Velvet Bella, and I didn't want to test my luck and have the jacket altered only to have the fit or look change. Thank you for the heads up :)

  92. Dina - thanks for the tip, I'll go for the 14 as well.

  93. Karen - Thanks for the feedback!! I ordered the McAllisters in grey. Cannot wait! A girlfriend of mine has a pair, and says they are soooo comfy and cushy!!

  95. Gigi, Lizzy, Babymama-looking for help on SIZE for the Carly dress. I'm a 2 in perfect shirts, O in Corali cami & 0 in trousers/matchstick jeans but can also wear some 2 pants. Debating between a size 0 or 2 to order...any thoughts would be appreciated!

  96. If anyone has the Forever Cardi in 'Soft Terracotta', the following tops/colors go well with it. It doesn't look like it online but it works in real life.

Brushed Stripe Cardi, Item 27273, in Bronzed Clay

Falling Ruffles Tank, Item 28597, in Bronzed Clay

Tissue pleated top, Item 19447, in Moroccan Spice

  98. CDP- You mentioned that you got the Jericho hobo when it went on sale... When/where did that happen? I really want to get it, but wanted to wait for some sort of sale... I don't want to miss it and for it to get sold out though!

  99. Went with a friend to the Tysons B&M today, and I nabbed the Jericho Pursette in mink off of the mannequin *evil grin* I used my student discount, which saved me about $21 on the purse. This was a guilty purchase, but I am very pleased with the bag, and there's no weird distressing as has been reported for the cognac colored one. The strap is not adjustable, and it's a tad bit long for my short body, but it hits right at my "backpockets" as it were.

I also got the indigo micro-stripe shirt, which I love! (and at $13.99 after FS discounts, I couldn't say no) I'm usually a size 8 in perfect shirts because of my bust; for this shirt, I had to size down to a 6 for a more flattering fit. It's one of those "borrowed from the boys" fits, so there are no darts in the back. I love the texture of this shirt--it's sort of grainy, and the color/wash of it will go well with the rest of my closet. If you're a button-down fan, I highly suggest grabbing one of these! (P.S. I gave it a thorough ironing as soon as I got home--it was SO wrinkled!)

  101. I love love LOVE the new camden leather brogues, but I have a few questions for any lucky lady that happens to own them. Firstly, I would really like to know what the fit is like, if it's true to size and whatnot. I've found them on ebay and I'd like to be pretty savvy about the size that I need before I go and order any. Secondly, do they pinch from the first off? I like to wear my shoes sockless (I know, I know)and I wonder if the leather stretches at all or if there will always be endless blisters.

  102. Has anyone tried the Aigle Jumping boots? I love the look of them, but am wondering how they fit, especially in the calves. Thanks so much!

  103. Ares metallic platform heels: I got these a while back, and they are beautiful! They fit TTS (bought my usual 6H). I have wide feet, and these definitely didn't pinch or rub in any way across the widest part of my foot or at the heel. I think the shoe is suitable for a whole range of folks because the woven leather easily conforms to the shape of your foot, and the strap is adjustable. They are also super comfortable for a high heeled shoe--I wore them for the first time to a wedding and I was on my feet for a few hours before they started to ache a bit. The platform makes it relatively walkable, and you don't teeter a lot in this heel. This is coming from someone who hasn't worn heels at all for several years now. I would totally recommend!
