Have a happy 4th of July weekend everyone! I know I am a bit early with this, but I still wish everyone a great Independence Day and to travel safely. :)
Many of us will be attending various outdoor parties, fireworks, and traveling to visit family & friends throughout the weekend. As per usual with the {celebrating with J.Crew?} posts, it would be fun to hear what everyone plans on wearing.
I have a couple of events that I am going to, including a wedding on Friday. So from Friday through Sunday, I will be rockin' J.Crew and living it up like it is 2007. Why 2007? Because...
Friday I will be dancing the night away in the Leilani Printed Poplin Dress (Item 81719; $295.00). Saturday, I will be debuting the amazing Lobster-Print Dress (Item 84117; $198.00). As for Sunday, I will be getting comfortable with a classic navy blue polo from J.Crew paired with the Lobster Skirt (Item 84461; $120.00). What can I say, I am enamored with that lobster print! ;)
So back to 2007... All of these items are from J.Crew's 2007 Collection. Through some meticulous stalking over the years, I was able to acquire these luscious items. The best part, the dresses were both new with tags. Can't beat that! :)
What are you planning to wear this 4th of July weekend? Are you planning to go "head to toe" J.Crew or parts J.Crew?
Huge update right now!
ReplyDeleteI agree that was a great year for J.Crew. Loved the lobster dress.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to Philly to visit with my in-laws. My suitcase is packed up with Crewfits, but sadly not for the actual 4th, lol.
ReplyDeleteSince it will be HOT that day and I'll spend part of it sitting on the ground at a parade (and the other part in MIL's backyard), I'll be sporting an old-ish pair of white shorts and what I have dubbed the ugliest shirt in the world ...
It's a red, white and blue lightweight disaster from Old Navy. LOL! I bought it because I'm over the flag tees / tanks. Also because it's so light and airy, I figured I won't swelter in it -- it's the called the Women's Striped Drop Waist Top. My husband loathes it, and I don't love it either, but MIL is all about the patriotic-ness, so there we go. At least it was 30% off. lol
Alexis, these are so cute and you'll look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing the Rose Vines bandaged dress on Sunday and the Starfish linen shorts with a white top for easy Monday day time and might wear my new Salty Seas (lobster print) dress from Anthro for the night fireworks!
Happy Independence day!
I have no idea what I'll be wearing yet, probably my Mallorca dress in navy because it's soo comfy! Love the lobster print too, you have some amazing "vintage" items hehe
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the lobster print!
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing white matchstick capris and the navy/white striped perfect tee w metallic capri sandals for a picnic and fireworks on the 4th, nothing fancy.
This morning's update was gigantic, there must be 100 embellished tees. A few tempting popbacks but like many others, I simply won't do final sale. Happy 4th y'all.
You're going to look adorable all weekend Alexis! :)
ReplyDeleteDH and I are taking the boys over to the beach condo on the Gulf Coast this weekend, so I'll spend the majority of my time in J.Crew Swimsuits, and the rest of it wearing sundresses or maxidresses.
i've been wanting that lobster dress for so many years but haven't had any luck hunting it down! you are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteOh Alexis, the Leilani dress is absolutely gorgeous! I wish I would have bought it back then.
ReplyDeleteIt's Canada Day today so I am wearing a white denim mini, a red and white striped tee and my favorite Chie Mihara Dura sandals in grey with orangey-red piping. We're going to a huge BBQ party later today and thankfully have some nice weather so it should be fun.
Happy Canada Day to all the Canadian JCAs!!
On Sunday I will definitely wear red, white & blue but I just don't know what yet. We are going to host a few fellow Americans at our own dinner party so I have been running around looking after all the details and haven't really thought about what to wear. :P I'll read all the interesting posts here to get some great ideas.
OT - I got an email that there were new arrivals online today but I really couldn't see much new, just a few pieces. There is definitely a hint of fall with the boots though.
Alexis you have great taste. 2007 had to be Jcrew's best year. Trust me I shopped with them since I was 12, over 13 years ago.
ReplyDeleteEach of your picks are exquisite. Bravo.
Alexis you will look so pretty while out in the dusty country I will be all dolled up in men's crew--may even do a corny red gingham, white chino, blue bandana and sperrys... have fun and be safe!
ReplyDeleteYes, 07 was a FABULOUS summer!! I feel like I keep saying this, but I really wish I had bought more. It was also an amazing year for sales - I remember visiting several CT stores with additional 50% off sale prices.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your outfit choices, Alexis!!
IF I had the patchwork madras strapless dress from that year, I would wear it. Since I don't, I'm thinking about the anchor skirt from 07 with a red or yellow stripe top.
Alexis, can you give any input as to the fit of the lobster skirt? I know it would be too long for me as is - would it work to hem it, do you think?
Yes... .good ole 2007. I have bought many pieces on eBay from 2007 in the last few months. Including the brushstroke print doll dress... it's cotton tafetta, same style as the library dress, with a brown floral print... for about $14. Love it! I wish the lobster print dress would pop up (for less than BIN of $200). Unfortunately, the majority of my clothing is in storage right now so I will be piecing together an outfit from the random clothing I have on hand. Probably one of my J.Crew jersey dresses since it's going to be hot.
ReplyDeleteI'm heading to DC tomorrow, going to meet up with the DC JCA's tomorrow night for some shopping and dinner! I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteI haven't exactly figured out what I'll be wearing when, but I'm packing:
Rose Vines bandaged dress
Patchwork madras strapless dress
Daisy Day dress
A few dresses from Anthro
Starland sequin tank
lots of JC jewelry!
Alexis - love the lobster print dress, I'm kicking myself for not getting that!
Have a happy, safe 4th of July!
looks like the first lady will be wearing JC as well!

mommydearest,
ReplyDeleteLove the little butterfly bag you have my your "name". I have that bag including everything that was made in the butterfly print that year including my beloved butterfly jacket.
I also loved the wooden handled bags that year. I bought every fabric in it!!!! Glad I did. I don't carry leather bags and used to buy all the fabric totes and bags JCrew had:)
Summer, you are SO LUCKY!!! The butterfly shorts were too short for me and the dress looked ponographic. I have a hair clip and the flip flops - pathetic! ;)
ReplyDeleteI REALLY regret not buying the purse - I waited too long and it sold out. Should you ever decide to sell any of these St Barths bags, I would love know about it. :) I have the ivory eyelet also from 07 and it is so so pretty.
mommydearest,
ReplyDeleteMy dad bought me the butterfly bag with the wooden handles last summer on ebay. (I had already bought myself the tote bag in the print.) Anyway, had ordered the wooden handled bag TWICE from JCrew and the wood came scratched. So I gave up. The one my dad found came in perfect condition.
I also love the silk scarf.
The butterfly and library print are my two favorites of all time. I went a bit crazy.
Everyone: Thanks for the nice words on my outfit! I am very excited to get this weekend started. :) I also wish everyone an amazing weekend too!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTori: It took me years to get the Lobster Dress & Skirt. Every once in awhile it will pop up on eBay. I was hesitant at first to pay as much as I did for the Lobster Dress, but thought I would regret it if I didn't get it. And I am thrilled with my decision. The amount of fabric & quality apparent is worth the price. :)
XOXO: Happy Canada Day!!!
Jinks: Could not agree with you more about 2007! :)
MommyDearest: The Lobster Skirt is suprisingly long. If you had to take it in, I would do so from the top. I am normally a size 6 in skirts (I can fit into size 4, when size 6 is not around) and found that size 2 in the Lobster Skirt works fine for me. It sits much higher on the waist (above belly-button), but right below my knee (perfect length). In retropsect, I think a size 4 might have been a bit better so the waist is a bit lower, but not by much. Hope this helps.
Em: Me too! I have been purchasing 2007 pieces today! I didn't know what absolute treasures they were until now. ;)
MommyDearest: I forgot to add about the Lobster Skirt... I think the reason the size 2 worked for me is because I am pear shape. So my upper body (including belly button area) is a size 0. Since the dress fans out considerable with its tiers, I can fit into the bottom portion just fine with room to spare. If the skirt were a straight pencil skirt, forget it- I could never fit into it! ;)
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for 2007 pieces! My favorite eBay score was the eyelet Martine cami (I think it's the same bodice as the lobster dress, with about 6" of eyelet trim at the hem), never worn, for $25! If I had only known how the 2009/2010 stuff would be I would've definitely stocked up back in the day... especially when they had a free ship/no min code every week!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I'll be wearing for the 4th but leaning toward the red Keep It Simple tunic from Anthro along with the cropped hipslung JC jeans from I think 2007 (!) and some tan Merona wedges from Target. Heck, I might even break out one of the wide madras 2007 headbands.
