"Thanks!" to many of you, including Jordyn, Marietta, & Irina, as well as GigiOfCa & Christy (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).
There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} Of course, Crewcuts got updated too (click here). Even the J.Crew Collection (click here) displays new arrivals for Fall.
J.Crew has also provided the latest catalog online (click here to view). The catalog is another destination one. The images of Lake Powell in Arizona are beautiful! There is also a new stand alone catalog for Men & Crewcuts. As for the new arrivals...
Liking! The Bettina Cami (Item 28505; $79.50) looks super cute! It's the cousin of the Victoria Cami with lace! Also, the Glimmer Cardigan (Item 28147; $178.00) looks stunning. I know its a bit over the top with the shimmering paillettes, but that is what makes it so special.
Messy! I am sure some of you will love the Dolmina Shirt-Jacket (Item 28735; $138.00), but I do not. It just seems like a lot it would take a lot of effort to make it work. Where do I begin with the Taffeta Seine Vest (Item 29082; $650.00)? It looks like it belongs on a villain from either the Wizard of Oz or Flash Gordon. In either case, not good. Not good at all.
How much!?! Did you see the Burnout Baseball Tee (Item 29452; $59.50)? It's a cute tee, but not for almost $60. I don't understand what's so special to make it cost that much.
Incidentally, you know its time for Fall at J.Crew not just by their clothes but by how they lay out their clothes. They split up Jackets & Outerwear into two separate clothing categories again. (Which is what they do for the colder weather months. During the warmer weather months, they merge the two.)
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)
Always an exciting day: new Fall arrivals! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I really like the Caryn dress in the cedar color: that's on my wishlist. It looks work-appropriate, and as I am moving my job to an office this fall (instead of working at home) I'll be looking for office-ready.
I like the short icon trench too!
That's it for now, I'm going back to have a look at more...
I'm loving the vintage silk scarf in green. Great color. I also pre-ordered the long alpaca sweater and hope it's as cute as it looks.
ReplyDeleteAh, Lake Powell. As an Arizonan I've been there to camp and boat at least 10 times since I was a teen. It really is beautiful! I remember a few years ago Anthro did a catalog shot there, to.
ReplyDeleteOff to go take a peek at new arrivals!
Must get: Infinity cardigan, aka Forever cardigan v2.0, in every color.
ReplyDeleteNeed to see: Herringbone plaid boy shirts - is the Classic J.Crew back?!
Will never buy: Disco tartan top for $650. Cheaper DYI alternative: cut a disco ball in half and wear as a hat.
I always LOVE reading JCA's first impressions - sometimes more so that viewing the new arrivals! My first thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. Wow, there are a lot of things that have been rehashed from previous rollouts! Good news for my wallet.
2. Short version of the icon trench - Must. Have.
3. Katzy cami is cute. Hope it doesn't have a side zip.
4. Like the softspun sunrise and sunset dresses - they look like they could both be flattering.
5. Merino raye cardigan - love stripes! But 16-gauge knit? I'm wary.
6. I cannot believe they'd dare to bring back the 'dream' yarn! At the very least they should call it something else so as to trick the people who've gotten burned by it in the past.
7. Speaking of yarn, didn't the cashmere from the last rollout (Cody cardigan, V-neck) say "Made in Italy"? Now it all says "Import" (read: China).
8. Please, JC - make a non-pencil skirt longer than 17"! I was actually intrigued with the glen plaid ruffle skirt and then saw it was 15". That's ridiculous! If it were longer I would have considered.
Overall, I don't see anything that I have to have immediately (hopefully there will be a 'private sale' so I can get the short trench). Especially, as was pointed out in another post, that there are some almost dupes laungishing in the FS section!
We'll always have Paris, JC.
Thoughts...
ReplyDelete$59.50 for a baseball tee? Really?
Martinete Feather Jacket...huh?
Taking "borrowed from the boys" to a new level with the various models wearing ties and the decidedly "male" look
I'd love to get the Katzy cami but it only goes up to size 12. Why the sizeism, J.Crew? Why stop at 12?
I do like the Langford platform high heel pumps but the price...yowza.
Ooh, so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI actually already bought the Bettina cami while in CA...it was out on the floor early. I'll try to have pics up on my blog later today!
I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteStyling the pieces individually highlights them.
Now to save my pennies.
I'm finally feeling the vibe in this crop of new arrivals; loving the:
ReplyDelete-Silk Safari Jacket
-Shimmer Tweed Ruby Jacket
-Peekaboo Sequin Cardigan
-Tilly Satin Heels (in beige, although the black is fun, too!)
And might have already grabbed a few to try due to my lack of impulse control and excitement that J Crew has me...well, excited for once.
My overwhelming favorite is the Taffeta Seine Vest though, because as I lamented last night a la Twitter- so happy J Crew understands my lifelong dream of looking like a reeeally expensive molting bird.
And it's going to sell out in 3, 2, 1...
(I'd kill to meet the people that actually buy the $700 lace cami's and $800 taffeta vests, oh yes oh yes I would.)
Was anyone else surprised by the size of the rollout? Maybe they've trained me to expect smaller ones lately, but I wasn't expecting such a big August rollout (I was anticipating September).
ReplyDeletesilver lining, I agree that a lot of stuff seemed rehashed and I was glad, too, for my wallet. But there was more here that I liked than I can remember. They seem to have gotten back on track (at least for my taste) with the sweater offerings. I thought skirts were lacking, though. Some very cute jackets and nice shoes.
And a continued WTF with some of the fishing tackle jewelry?!?! Have they not learned yet, or are people actually buying this?
Can't wait to get the catalog-looks like it will have some inspiration for me to rework things already in my closet.
Love all the new fall booties and pumps - I want them all (though JC shoes KILL my feet)!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about the Dolmina top - it caught my eye immediately but I am pretty sure no amount of finagling would keep it from looking hot mess-like on me.
Items I loved and bought:
ReplyDeletebettina cami in spiced russet
infinity cardi in paradise blue
sparkle waves henley in heather charcoal
Items I loved and want to buy:
cascading sequin cardi in heather urban gray
bootcut cord in smoky orchid
toothpicks in smoke wash
double serge in bronzed ochre and nordic blue
jeweled wool tank in warm maize (only on super sale - 74 for a tank?)
Love a lot in this rollout and actually ordered the Khloe cami, which is not available till mid-August. I agree with the comments on skirts lengths - so frustrating - make them longer and let those who want them shorter shorten them! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you DaniBP, love the Caryn dress, and the portfolio dress too. Swoon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had time to peruse everything yet, but just wanted to say I bought the Bettina Cami yesterday in the red and ivory (pics here, and love it! (Sorry, I posted these in comments way down below, so am reposting the link, if that's ok)
ReplyDeleteLoving the fall colors!
The vests are all pretty crazy -- who is wearing clothes like that? I'm pretty sure you'd be the center of attention, and not in a good way, if you wore any of those out.
ReplyDeleteI like the new skinnier-leg chinos and the straight-leg jeans. Finally, jeans with a straight leg and no factory-made holes! I'm going to keep my eye on them.
Did the toothpick cords last fall or winter have side zippers? That looks like a new detail.
I see a few things I like, but I'm not sure I'll be buying anything for a while. Or at least not until it feels more like time for fall clothes. It is way too hot to think about corduroy!
I mentioned in another thread that I'm a bit bummed about the skirt lengths again. I can see the shorter ones making sense for spring and summer, but fall? All the dresses are "falls above knee". I know that's too short for me. And of the 13 new skirts, 8 are minis.
ReplyDeleteThe pebble jacquard pencil skirt in camel shimmer - I just love that name! - is on my wish list, as is the gusto cami. I think that's going to be very figure flattering. If the merino shirred cardigan is fitted, I'll bite on that too.
I haven't liked their jewelry for at least a year so I'm not biting on any of that. I'm done with enormous stones and ribbon.
So many things stop at size 12. And there's stuff made of lamb. I'm looking forward to everyone's comments here moreso than any potential order.
ReplyDeleteRae, I'm interested to hear what other people think too. The fact that J Crew has slowly been outsizing people over a 12 is pretty sad. If they opened up their sizes to at least an 18, they would have so many happy customers. It's annoying to see a retailer try to push for only a certain type of customer with a certain type of look.
ReplyDeleteUm - anyone have a free shipping code? a few things I am tempted by - (betina) but I won't pay shipping ;)
ReplyDeleteTIA!
So happy to see that color is making a return! I love the arctic blue and heather agate, as well as the yellows they're featuring. Unfortunately Nordstrom already got a lot of my money this month, so I'll be holding out for a sale.
ReplyDeleteI forget - is higher gauge a finer knit?
ReplyDeleteOh, many nice things that are so out of my reach. I think that many of these items seem pretty darn expensive! On the bright side, by the time I save up enough money for some of my wish-listed items (hello, Sasha peacoat!), maybe they will be on sale. :)
ReplyDeleteFor all of the items I adore, there are quite a few really ugly items. I can usually be positive about everything, but some of these are just truly awful (frangia, seine, and martinete...yes, not the most flattering of embellishments).
Look forward to seeing all thoughts!
Mack: Rose gave us a free shipping code that is now on the side bar: RMA43L {free shipping on $150+; expires 7.26.10}. Hope this helps. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the new suiting dresses, Portofolio in Dark Plum, Caryn in Cedar and Banquette in Seaport Blue. Finally some work appropriate but interesting color choices in suiting dresses, Thank you J Crew!
ReplyDeleteI like that they made Banquette in 120s instead of wool flannel that tends to attract lint. And I hope that it is not cut as low as last year version.
It is probably the same but it looks higher on the model. A girl can hope...
I am with dinagideon. I thought everything seemed rather expensive. (I know everyone has different budgets/price point thoughts.) But mine was- Wow- cannot afford full price. There will be sales so I know to wait. I found 2 items I really like which is good considering the past year or so. My list used to be about 10-15 items long!
ReplyDeleteThe vintage silk scarf looks promising, but isn't it odd the opening lines of the description read "Celebrate spring ... "? And WTH is up with the "Khloe jacquard cami" - naming items after the Kardashians now, j.crew?
ReplyDeleteDesert Flower,
ReplyDeleteYes it is :)
Had to read the comments first, now off to peruse.
I love the suiting dresses, especially the pinstripe! I'll probably splurge for that full-price. Like ajc I'm glad they're using 120s, the wool flannel is hard for me to wear sometimes in FL! I also like the Drea dress, but methinks it'll be awfully short. And I love love love the Langford heels, but will wait wait wait until they're on sale.
ReplyDeleteSigh, more ruffles, chiffon, sequins, and minis. No really great fall jackets.
ReplyDeleteAnd once again, the beautiful suiting dresses are too low-cut (unless they change the cut of the Banquette it is sliced to show the center of the bra) or show too much skin (Caryn) :-( Where do they think we work?
On the plus side, I liked the plum and raisin tones, and some of the jewelry.
So exciting to finally see new arrivals and a larger rollout, too.
ReplyDeleteOn my list to try are the Khloe cami, Novo-stripe wrap top, Femme Camo Delancey pant, and Northern lights necklace. I think that's about it this time around.
@Desert Flower - yep, higher = finer, IMO often also cheaper & easier to snag...
ReplyDeleteI guess someone must be buying those 15" skirts, but it isn't me, and it sounds like it isn't a lot of people on here. Who wears them? I'm 5-3 and they'd be indecent on me, even with tights. There are so many cute skirts I'd have bought over the years from J.crew if only they had been cut to recognize many of us don't want to show the world London, France & so on...
Here's what I added to my wishlist:
ReplyDeleteCalista cami (although not a fan of silk...wish there was a cotton option)
Sunrise dress!!!!!!!! Love that there is an option with sleeves (My school is changing dress code for teachers this year) although I hope it's not too low-cut.
Harris Tweed blazer...SWOON. But way out of my price range. Would love to try to find a cheaper alternative.
Cords. I'm always a fan of those. Loving the new colors.
Double-serge pencil skirts-hooray for ochre being back!
I bought the Zip-side sweatshirt in heather charcoal while in California. I really like it...it's super-comfy and flattering. I'll put up pics later.
Ordered:
ReplyDeletePetite Bettina cami (item 30227) in spicy russet & warm taupe
Pilar paisley cami (item 28503) in vintage rose
Herringbone plaid boy shirt (item 29581) in grey microstripe
Donegal tweed schoolboy blazer (item 30149) in moss
A few of those items are already backordered to mid August.
OMG, love the Lacey cami ($695.00 item 29521) in slate, the Harris tweed blazer ($595.00 item 29016, boo, no Petite) and the Sosie sequin tank ($495.00 item 28620) in dusty sage, but they are way out of my price range! :-(
Love that the Minnie is offered in new colors, hello parsley!
The Double Serge is back, is it me, or are the colors similar to ones past, ie bronzed ochre, nordic blue, pearl grey... just slightly off?
Oh, how I wish the Metallic sequined bell skirt ($275.00 item 29021) was not so short!
There are a few other things on my wish list, but I'll hold off on those for now... I'm sure as I peruse the offerings further I'll add more to that list! :-)
While I do see some repeats from seasons past, I have to say for the most part I really like this new rollout!
Now back to work I must go!
re: short skirts, I was in Paramus store yesterday and they had at least 2 more very cute mini skirts in tweed that are not online yet. I was talking SA about how I wish they would make them longer as the fabrics were TDF. She totally agreed with me and we had some good laughs about how these short skirts and short waisted full dresses make us feel like we should go play jump rope together...
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for J.Crew to sell a lace cami or skirt for less than $695?? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteAnd now back to checking out the new arrivals...
I have a cart full of the usual suspects -- pencil skirts, merino cardigans, short icon trench -- but many pieces I like are WAY too expensive. However I do like what I'm seeing for fall...it's just wrong how much I adore fall clothes!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they do a larger version of the Fleur Amour Clutch. It's too precious for everyday use in that size. And the Clara platform pumps will look great with some cords or jeans.
ReplyDeleteAnd the shimmer chantilly dress is pretty, but it costs too much for a J Crew dress. And the suiting dresses are nice (
and appropriately priced), but I work from home. I've worn swimsuits all day for almost two weeks.
Otherwise it's just so much of the same old thing.
Just put up pics of the Bettina cami and the zip-side sweatshirt here.

ReplyDeleteI think I will get the bronzed Ochre pencil skirt since I missed out on bronzed twig. And I like the alpaca sweater, looks so cozy. Is alpaca itchy in your experience? Does it pill a lot?
ReplyDeleteI'm not seeing much that I like... but glad they brought back the double serge pencil skirt. I still need a blue one. But I still refuse to pay $118 for it!
ReplyDeleteMy only must-have is the Caryn dress in cedar which I may even order at full price (though not without free shipping!)
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I'm underwhelmed. I do really like the $10 canvas tote, especially as a toss-in to reach free shipping, and all of the heels this season are very cute but I'm completely off buying J.Crew heels when for a little more I can go to a Gucci outlet and get a pair that will last for YEARS. Still mourning my beloved Lulus that got water stained and fell apart after 3 weeks :(
There is so much I love! Don't want to take the time to write it (currently studying for bar exam. May have placed HUGE order to numb the pain).
ReplyDeleteAs a short person, the skirt lengths don't bother me - but I am really bummed to see the size 12 limits, which is my size. And while I don't plan on going beyond that, I think it's really something JCrew needs to address. Do they think it makes them cooler and more upscale? Do they think people will think they are more "designer" now that they do designer sizes? WTF?? And with many other retailers aiming for similar customers - the redesign of the Loft/Ann Taylor/Talbots and also Lands End and LL Bean (if only they did workwear!) you would think JCrew would try to be as inclusive as possible.
I'm with FFM, I'm totally dying to see the Northern Lights necklace.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, not much else really impressed me. I agree that their prices are crazy this time around. Did anyone notice the marled boyfriend pocket tee and boyfriend vneck tee for $72?!?!?
They did have some cute shoes on this roll out though...
Thank you! The free shipping code I had expired yesterday and I was able to find the most recent one on your site!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Color me impressed!
ReplyDeleteI must have:
+ herringbone tights in all three colors
+ buffalo check boy shirt
+ the burnout baseball tee
+ double serge pencil skirt in nordic blue and possibly pearl gray
I am intrigued by:
+ sequined jersey bloomers
+ Solid knit Thandie blazer
+ Short icon trench
+ toothpick riding pants
Very good fall indeed. Just not for my wallet!
Oh, heaven! I've had a couple of painful recent experiences where a desired, but high-priced, item was gone when I could finally justify it, so I just bit the bullet and ordered the Harris tweed jacket.
ReplyDeleteHarris tweed is amazing; I've made do with men's Harris tweed jackets, always cut boxy. The styling on this one is lovely. Won't ship till end of August--just in time for the start of school, though.
An OH LA FIRE BREATHING VACHE morning.
ReplyDeleteBeyond delighted to see they released so much of the Fall '10 collection.
And the fact that they've relesed it so early is also beautiful as that means by the time fall weather really rolls around (say end of Oct. for me) much of it will be on sale!
I cant get over the Martinete feather jacket!
It's feathers, FEATHERS! but that price tag is quite a doozy...
Also falling for the Paillette mirage tweed mini, the Sequined jersey bloomer, not to forget EVERY pair of newly released boots!
OH I absolutely need, need, need the mystery skirt that is pictured with the selvedge chambray shirt. Hopefully this is something to be released in a later roll out?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Feature_Assortment/catalogjcrewcomexclusives/shirts/PRDOVR~15008/15008.jsp
I would love the tweed mini if it wasn't covered in shiny stuff. Wish they offered plain, simple ones in a number of colors - I'd scoop them all up.
Wow! I can honestly say that I like most of the new catalog. I am even intrigued by the McAllister wedges.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the denim vest on page 40 at all!
I agree with previous comments on the pencil skirt length. Sure, in the summer, I love wearing mini skirts (I'm a teacher on summer vacation), but it's not appropriate for work. I haven't bought any pencil skirts since the first Double Serges came out, late 2008.
Andrea: I noticed! What the heck. Wayyy overpriced.
ReplyDeleteI have to say.... there are some pieces I'm dying to see. The work dresses look lovely. I will have to order for sizes. There a couple of bags that I have to show restraint for.... Disappointed with the shoes.. and I am a BIG shoe person. Maybe because my climate is not conducive to suede, and I can't see spending high end prices for man made soles.
ReplyDeleteA few sweater colors to add to my merino collection.
I think I won't be going THAT crazy this roll-out.
Update: the adorable mini pictured with the selvedge chambray shirt is the Tokoyo Mini (28260), and will debut in August.
ReplyDeleteOnly interested in trying on a few items-mostly jewelry and shoes this time around. I'm not a fan of the muted earth tones-they wash me out: Khloe jacquard cami & Novo-stripe wrap top could work, but are pricey.
ReplyDeleteAbacus necklace-I love statement jewelry-but this one looks heavy.
Glass ornament earrings in lavender mist.
Clara platform pumps in cobblestone are killing me with their cool beauty and huge price tag.
The MacAlister wedge boots are more like what I need, just not sure about that crepe sole.
OK - so instead of going back to work like I should have done, I spent some more time slowly going over the new rollout items, and ended up ordering the Caryn dress in dusty cedar as well... I am officially done!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMarietta, me too!!!
ReplyDeleteBest item of the rollout in my opinion :)
I'm sneakily hoping to reorder when/if it ever goes on sale and return the full price one, but even at $188 it was a must-have and I didn't want to risk it selling out.
I think this season I am sticking to basics I can trust to wear well: double serge, super 120s, etc.
The colors are all a bit dull and muted for me, as I like my bright happy spring colors (the April catalog is my new styling inspiration). A few things worth noting though:
ReplyDeleteZip-Side Sweatshirt in Heather Charcoal - this looks absolutely incredible in person. Has a very bohemian Parisian student look. I'm hoping to get the Skimmer Pant in Irish Moss to wear with it.
Perfect Fit Tees colors - Several of the colors in these look nothing like the website swatches. The Light Blade is a significantly more garish and artificial color than shown. The Bright Seaport was also pretty garish but I think the swatch is fairly accurate on that. The Dried Petunia and Golden Sunflower look the exact same as the Light Flamingo and Honey colors from the Spring; I'm thinking I might actually take a tee I have in Honey to go and compare if they're the same color! The Bronzed Twig is greener than it looks on the website and is absolutely incredibly; I snatched it up as soon as I saw it, lol.
Right now my current wishlist still consists of stuff from the spring and summer collections.
$695 for a lace cami? who touched it? jesus? wow, there is some poor sucker just DYING to get a hold of that i'm sure.

ReplyDeleteI love most of the new rollout. The camis are like the Victoria and Frances but that is fine with me...they are classic and wearable year round. I LOVE the work dresses but I am afraid the wool will be too hot for where I will be living. I wish I saw more pencil skirts but hopefully there will be more in later rollouts. I do like the one in camel gold for sale. Happy to see the downtown field jacket is back :)! I missed this last year and as I am moving to Africa this fall its the one peice I cannot live without! Perfect for work and Safari :). Overall I feel like the J.Crew we know and love is back on track!
ReplyDeleteWill definitely be getting the double serge skirt in blue in the fall - it's pretty much the only colour I'm missing. Those skirts are pretty much the my favourite JC item EVAR.
ReplyDeleteTotally OT but Land's End canvas is doing extra 20% of summer sale.
Underwhelmed. I was expecting a bigger rollout. Lots of new versions of the same - and either I already have the original or didn't like it the first time. Sigh.....J.Crew is disappointing me lately.
ReplyDeleteI did like the selection of booties though! And loving the studded ballet flats from the last rollout - LOVE that they have elastic, a rubber sole, and a hidden platform. Yay for comfort!
Sneaky, sneaky J. Crew--The AR Trapp troubadour sunglasses are now $450, that is an increase of $55 over the spring/early summer price. Wow. So glad I bought them early. Dang. That actually ticks me off. They have raised prices in the past, $10 here, $15 there, but $55? OUCH.
ReplyDeleteOnly possible way this is okay is if the price to get the materials went up...but even then it seems like a really bad idea to go up THAT much in price.
Just ordered some final sale that once again is not final sale on my receipt. I risked the turkish delight pencil skirt. I have never even tried on a pencil skirt. I am a size 4 to 6 in other skirts and shorts there. I hope that works, I have loved it for a while. Also got my petal colored Carlyle bracelet. If anyone is interested in the black version, I will be selling it. TONS of pop backs last night 3/4am, many already gone.
ReplyDeleteCan we talk? I believe I was raised with sequins being inappropriate for daytime, as would be flashy jewelry. Is this an etiquette rule, or was I too Midwestern?
ReplyDeleteI'm overcome with the urge to spend $275 for a fully sequined mini-skirt that I never thought I'd want but now desperately need. Just as I thought I have all the ruffles, sequins, ribbons and cardigans from J. Crew to possibly want more, I actually do want MORE.
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy with the Fall offering.
Incidentally, the super 120s peplum jacket that I was stalking for weeks all of a sudden disappeared. I'm so distraught. Now I have to sneak off during lunch to visit my local store.
I am with cortney joy....underwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see a single thing I have to have! I do see two things I like but would never pay the full price...I remember the days when I would drool and go crazy and have so many wants and my shopping cart would be full full full...my rewards cards would come (from my JCrew Credit card) each time with at least $100-125 and I did not use it for every purchase so was spending more! Now I am lucky if I get a $25 the past year and I even missed one period completely!
Sorry but not into plaid shirts or sequins much. Love ruffles but own enough now to last a lifetime:)
KAREN,
I was raised the same way too but now fashion says sequins for day are fine (if you feel comfortable wearing them that way!) Personally, I don't like sequins period. Never have....
I tried on the double serge pencil skirt yesterday and don't remember feeling like it was shorter than last year's. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Anyway, there is a beautiful super dark green (almost black) pencil skirt with dark green, gold, and silver lace flowers. It is beautiful. I wish I this was necessary for my wardrobe. I expected it to be super expensive (as their special skirts usually are), but it was 118 just like the double serge.
ReplyDeleteI love Khloe & Novo & the Sunrise/Sunset dresses.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the baseball tee price tag, lest we forget the $80 s/s boys tees, now on sale!
sub
ReplyDeleteI am underwhelmed, the few items that have caught my eye are pricey and there have been many comments about the declining quality it puts me off from ordering.
ReplyDelete$59.00 for the Baseball tee that is going to fall apart after a couple of washings?
I like a few of the new jersey knit dresses, but am super annoyed about the increased number of items stopping at size 12. Despite busting my butt at the gym 4-5 per week, the only way I could fit into certain JC items now is if I surgically had ribs removed. Apparently they don't really want $ from size 14/16 customers.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that Seine vest looks like fungus growing on a tree trunk.
Cass, I heartily agree. Why stop at size 12?
ReplyDeleteI like the JCA comments/opinions better than the catalog which is good 'cause I did not get a catalog. And -- explain this, please, someone-- can't find some of the items people mention on web site or web catalog. Thank heaven for this blog!
ReplyDelete-AMANDA -- why are you even reading this ? Get Back to Work! And good luck!
KAREN -- you were raised right. More than just a couple of sequinz In a.m. = walk of shame.
Alexis-A J.Crew Swimsuit is featured in the New York Times:
ReplyDeletehttp://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/19/scan-artist-palm-springs-weekend/?ref=style
I should add that the beautiful lace skirt was in my b&m. Don't see it online. Nor do I see the bracelet that I loved.
ReplyDeleteI did not like the tunics (plaid, solid, flannel, cotton) - found them to be shapeless even when I sized down. Maybe they'd be okay with a belt, but I don't like myself in belts, although I continue to try b/c I like the belted look.
And check out this story about wedding store:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/22/fashion/22CRITIC.html?_r=1&ref=fashion
Oh my god, Cass, you hit the nail on the head. The big weird fungus that's kind of poofy. There's gotta be a biologist on here... what's its name?
ReplyDeleteYet another "wow" item: has anyone stumbled upon the Bon bon dress (item 28955)? I thought perhaps it would look less flashy in person but it's catalog/online only so I guess I'll never know. The model looks like a Hershey's kiss!
ReplyDeleteDara: LOL. Yes! That is what she looks like.
ReplyDeleteEven funnier? If you go to the "Dresses" page (not under new arrivals, but further down on the sidebar under the women's section), they have the Bon Bon dress listed under "Wear to Work." Umm, yeah, okay. :P
I love the Bayberry washed wool scarf and the shape and style of the Brompton purse. I don't need another brown-tone bag, though, but it's on my list of items to watch!
ReplyDeleteI was super excited when I saw the Lacey cami and clicked on it to read more about it, until I realized that I'd misread the period in the not-so-bad price of 69.50 that I'd thought this cami was.
Lauren - My B&M had that skirt pictured with the chambray shirt in black. I didn't notice any other colors as I don't really notice any short skirts, but it may be out already.
ReplyDeleteI visited my B&M at lunch. I picked up one of the merino sweatshirts that have been out a while, but didn't get anything else from the new rollout. I tried one of the serge pencils and really liked it, but I had already ordered the rosy one this morning (my store never gets the pretty colors). I think it is TTS, an feel it is very much like the 2008 model. It is very nice and I am looking forward to getting mine.
I tried the schoolboy tweed jacket and it is a pass for me. It is made fairly well, but the topstitching could have been a little better. I thought my usual size was a bit too generous, but didn't love it enought to try the size down.
I do think a few of the camis looked incredible in person. The paisley one is stunning, but it isn't my colors.

ReplyDeletekitsmommy, I agree about the paisley cami. I wish they had also made it in a more color drenched palette for me and my pale skin. :)
ReplyDeleteAmanda, glad I'm not the only one taking a break from bar studying by perusing the new arrivals! Good luck next week!
ReplyDeleteRae, I googled it. It's apparently called shelf or bracket fungus. :P
ReplyDeletemath teacher,
ReplyDeleteThat one skirt sounds really pretty with all the colors. Is it online or store only? Thanks.
Hi! I know this is off tangent, I didn't want to wait until tomorrow to post in case the sale items I saw disappear or the 30% off ends. If you call the Tampa, FL store at 813-348-0336 there is 1 pr of Natalia dipped leather ballet flats in tan rose, size 10 for $29.99 less 30%!!!!! Additionally, there is also 1 pr of size 10 classic ballet flats, style 21412, in soft graphite for $49.99 less 30%. The low price and discount will more than cover shipping for both. I also saw a size 12 starfish dress in the sale section. At least you can save another 30% off buying it through the store.
ReplyDeleteGenny, I didn't think to ask if it was an in-store only item since the new items weren't online yet. It is not online (doesn't mean it won't be at some point). If you want the item number, call the Charleston, SC, store b/c I know it's there. It is gorgeous! Oh, and I tried my usual JC pencil skirt size and it was tight. I got it zipped, but I would size up for more comfort (I found myself holding it all in while in the skirt, if you know what I mean :D).
ReplyDeleteHi JCAs! Slightly OT:
ReplyDeleteI've seen some negative comments about the Dream sweaters. Can anyone elaborate? Do they pill? Are they itchy? I'm a fairly new JCA and have never tried em on.
Also, can anyone tell me if the double-serge pencil skirts fit like the high waisted Super 120s?
TIA! You guys are awesome! :)
Underwhelmed. Sequins almost always look hoochie and/or cheap. I think much of the line has lost its "edge" that I love. It looks matronly. I don't even look at the shoes, I could never even pay the sale prices. The most expensive shoe I have ever owned was a 100 pair of Sofft's, I got them on clearance at Macy's. They are wearing worse than cheap shoes I have bought, and it's significant! I just don't, and will never believe, that you can buy quality in shoes. A shoe is a shoe. And life is too hard on them--I would cringe with every scuff mark. Also, tired of the LOW CUT necks. Some of the scoop necks that J Crew does, even on the tanks, slowly stretch throughout the day to where my bra cups are peeking out. Inappropriate for work, annoying for anywhere. I wish some of these stores would moderate their necklines, I don't want the appearance of "depth" verging on cleavage.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cass. You just saved me an evening of fungal research. (I started searching for images of 'gilled fungi' earlier and only stopped because I had a grant proposal to finish. Which JCA is it that does the J. Crew math? Any follow-up she did would be brilliant.)
ReplyDeleteAnd...maribou? mongolian lamb? Does J Crew not remember that their target client, I think, are the Gen X'ers who were big into the animal rights movement? This is really making me question my new found love of J Crew. Uber-expensive, flashy (sequins), animal hair/fur, I am not a 60-something with bundles of money, time, and perfume shopping for furs or jewel-embellished tunics at Macy's...Am I? I think Banana Republic's (gasp, I know) line may be cuter. Although, they don't know how to present it pictorially, so it all looks ugly online, but is cute in the store.
ReplyDeleteOT: Seeking the advice of Manhattan JCAs please! I am going into the city tomorrow and was wondering store has the best sale sections. any advice is appreciated. TIA.
ReplyDeleteJackie-
ReplyDeleteI had a dream sweater last year and it pilled like crazy. Also seemed to stretch out really quickly and lose shape. Generally just didn't seem like high quality fabric. Don't recall it being particularly itchy.
kitsmommy, thanks for the heads up! I'll be checking out my B+M this weekend for sure. That skirt will be mine!
ReplyDeletemichelle,
ReplyDeletethe j.crew at rockefeller center has a pretty large sale section. so does the prince st. (soho) store. so uptown or downtown, take your pic! just please keep in mind: both sections are massively picked over unless you need new tees.
re: new arrivals. i like the alpaca sweater, nordic blue dream cardigan (with the dark buttons) and the wool bell skirts. i tried the herringbone one on and loved it. pockets! i'll wait for sale time. the bettina camis are lovely, but again, i'll wait for sale. $80 for cotton is crazy.
otherwise, i'm underwhelmed. really trying to go along with the new crew but oh, it makes me sad.
OT- "adventures in suits" posted on her blog some sneak peaks at the Banana Republic Fall runway-
ReplyDeletehttp://adventuresinsuits.blogspot.com/2010/07/fall-please-banana-republic.html
(I totally agree that their online shop displays their clothes horribly-I can't shop it!)
Oh, I have no willpower.
ReplyDeleteGrabbed the buffalo check boy shirt in rose dust and black, and a pair of the brown herringbone (awesome) tights.
Em - agreed! And good look to you as well.
ReplyDeleteIs Alexander Wentworth wearing J.Crew on The Today Show?
ReplyDeletehttp://tv.yahoo.com/daytime/video/the-today-show-the-view-good-day-la/20668851/ (it's the second story)
Jackie,
ReplyDeleteI returned a dream sweater last year after wearing it only a couple of times. It kinda stretched and pilled, it looked like I'd worn it for years! No way will I purchase one again. I much prefer the merino sweaters.
I was out and about all day, and was able to stop by a B&M store. The Fall arrivals are disappointing to me. I was hoping to stock up on the matchstick cords, but the zipper is a pass. No sweaters I need to have. Only the double serge skirts and some of the shoes are a maybe.
ReplyDeleteI am becoming quite disillusioned about knits after hoping for a correlation between price and quality. I am new to Banana Rep and J Crew, after shopping at Gap, Old Navy, etc for years and getting sick of things looking like s*** instantly. Well, my very first (and last) Banana Republic cardi that I bought last fall looked terrible after the first couple wears, before it was even washed. I am tempted to buy the cardis they just came out with, they are a thinner material that looks more durable (oddly). Even my J Crew, I hoarded the Cotton Cascade Ruffle Cardigan, so I have a new one that hasn't been worn and the one I have worn a few times. Guess what, it's showing wear, and I treat it with kid gloves. I really don't believe that there is a difference between higher and lower priced cardis, a knit is a knit. Now, I wish I could come up with something else as a work staple. I feel too formal and overdressed in most blazers/jackets.
ReplyDeleteAmy,
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is worth it to pay more for some things. I have cashmere sweaters from Neiman's house brand and AT cashmere that have literally never pilled. I have shoes from Cole Haan and in some designer brands that are down to very little per wearing now because they held up so well.
On the other hand, I had a J Crew merino sweater, a J Crew skirt, a BR cotton sweater and an AT tee that I have taken back this summer because they looked awful after one wear or stretched out of shape.
Generally, I am not a fan of tee shirts or cotton sweaters because I do not find the price point makes much difference. They all tend to wear poorly for me. I tend to stick with the fine gauge merinos for work even for the warmer months (and I live in Florida and have sensitive skin and still find them to be ok). Even so, I still occasionally have a piece disappoint me.
Still, most of my clothing from AT, J Crew, BR, Antro, etc lasts for 2-3 seasons (and I don't buy much so each piece sees a good bit of wear) vs. the few wearings I get out of ON level stuff.
Amy, I agree with kitsmommy and also think that there's a bit of trial and error when it comes to knits. In my experience, the JC dream yarn and anything 'featherweight' has turned out to be garbage after a few wearings. I won't go near the Dream yarn (it was tough to hold back from last fall's Anton cardigan, but I just couldn't throw money away) and found their cashmere to also be pretty bad. I've had better luck with JC's 12 (and sometimes 14) gauge merino sweaters.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I don't think that creating long-lasting sweaters is a priority for retail companies anymore - because then what would everybody buy from the next rollout?
You may want to give Lands End Canvas a try - so far, their stuff seems to be of better quality than JC and BR, plus they accept returns at any time. Their Heritage cardigans are pretty cute. :)
I grew up on Shetland wool and Merino. I won't buy the dream yarn again; my last cardi shrunk with dry cleaning (?)and it seemed to get thinner with wear (again?). I too long for "well made" sweaters---what happened? Although, I did buy a Vince wool sweater with wonderful thick wool. The short of it, I don't really buy sweaters from Jcrew or BR. Their Jackie's have turned into straight nylon/spandex-my summer Jackie felt like putting on my bathing suit-just the cut and "2 buttons" detailing is cute. and I won't go into the featherweight. Yup, I think it pays more to buy "desinger" wool/cashmere or dept store like Neimans (Marshall Fields used to have a great cashmere dept.) ^shrugs^
ReplyDeleteKaren - thanks for the shout-out!
ReplyDeleteI'm disappointed about the dream sweater reviews. I've never had one, and right now I am loving the colors they are in. Sigh.
Amy, I disagree with you on the ability to buy quality shoes. If you're comparing cheap to expensive using $100 shoes as the expensive benchmark you may want to expand your horizons, at least for comparison purposes.
ReplyDeleteI buy a lot of different brands and I recommend you try a pair of Fluevogs if you want stylish shoes that fit comfortably and last a long time. A lot of people are really surprised how good shoes can be, once they try Fluevogs. They have reviews online and there are often used pairs available for cheap on ebay, if you're not afraid of used shoes. I've sold a few pair on ebay myself. It's amazing what great shape some of them are in even after a couple of years of regular wear. Check them out at your local Fluevog store or Fluevog.com. I must warn you though, they can become addictive.
citygal1: I think the zipper is only on the toothpick cords. The matchsticks don't have one...or am I wrong? It would be a dealbreaker for me, too!
ReplyDeleteAmy, just to add on to what XOXO said, Camper shoes are also amazingly comfortable and have unique styles. I would classify the prices as mid-range -- over $100 but less than $200 for most of them.
ReplyDeleteSilver lining and Karen, you both speak the truth! As someone who worked for BR several years back, they did make sweaters that lasted pill-free for years. It's recently within the last couple years where quality has declined across the board when it comes to knits and certain other staples. For example, BR's suits and many of their shoes used to all be made in Italy. Flash forward 2010: they're made in places like Poland, Romania, and lesser costing locales. Maybe you guys have a point - customers dont expect stuff to last and everything is disposable. What better way to get the consumer to come back into the stores to replenish.
ReplyDeleteAppGal, I tried on the matchstick this week and they didn't have zippers. I agree with you that the zippers are on the toothpick, which disappoints me since I love the toothpick so much! Oh well, guess I'll buy the matchstick and bootcut this year.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Shimmer tweed Ruby jacket, 120s pinstripe banquette dress and Femme camo Delancey pant. They are making me look forward to fall.
ReplyDeleteI overlooked the Bettina camis at first, but agree with you all that they are beautiful. I want one in Spicy Russet.
I could probably justify paying FP for the pinstripe banquette dress. I'm hopeful that a P00 won't leave me exposing too much of myself at work.
I saw the Bettina at my B&M on Thursday and it is lovely. My favorite color is the orange shade. But at $79.50, I'm not ready to snap it up just yet.
ReplyDeleteFrom the roll-out, I'm swooning over the more classic pieces--basically, all the wool office-appropriate dresses. I'd buy every one right now if I could afford it. Those are true investment pieces I know I'd get plenty of wear out of year after year.
Other than that, it's a lot of the same old, same old. I always love the V-neck cashmere cardi and the new colors are great, but I'm definitely at a point where I can't pay that much for a sweater I know will pill after one or two wearings. I've resisted blasting J. Crew for their quality in the past, but I'm disappointed in how worn my sweaters from last season look. Most of them can't be worn again this year, even though I took great care of them and wore each only a handful of times. That makes me very reluctant to scoop up any more cardis from them this year.
Jackie, just one more voice warning you away from the Dream sweaters:
ReplyDeleteI've owned about six Dream knit sweaters and I sadly agree with those that say they quickly become a pill-y mess, even if you are very careful with them and hardly put them on. The knit IS very soft and warm, but they are definitely disposable knits--not something you should buy with the expectation of wearing them more than a few times.
It's really a shame, and I don't understand why they pill so badly, but there's nothing worse than pulling out a sweater and seeing it literally covered in pills after only two or three gentle wearings.
Personally, I'm never buying a Dream sweater again. Even on super sale.
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the Dream sweater reviews! I am disappointed everyone's saying they're pilling because I love the colors they come in! Guess I'll have to force myself not to buy one.
Jackie WAIT here's a Dream Sweater pill remedy!!
ReplyDeleteGet a 'Sweater Stone' at Joann's. (forget the shavers). It's done wonders for my two Dream sweaters. Used gently it really gets rid of the unsightly pills. So if the Dream colors are too good to pass up I'd get a sweater stone and wait to get the sweaters on sale.
See the stone on Joann.com
HTH
Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts. A lot of my J Crew sweaters are featherweight, and I love them, but they are wearing. And I don't mean round pills like a wool sweater would get, just "nappy" look to the texture. Had I not hoarded another that has not been worn, I would not have been able to see the difference so soon. It is sad what a throwaway culture we live in. To be honest, I FEAR washing my stuff, I wear things several times or more, because I just know what happens. And that's with a front loader on gentle. I have never and probably will never have the money to buy super quality clothing, I went from being a poor ph.d student to a house and student loan poor adult. Fun. Anyway, I will never know the shoes you talk of. I just don't see how a shoe, regardless of price, can resist scuffing and wear from the street, curbs, steps, etc. And regarding cashmere, I am 35 years old and only got my first cashmere sweater last year from...wait for it...KOHLS! And I thought I was in heaven, lol. It did pill, mainly where your arms do a lot of rubbing against your trunk. But they weren't too bad, from a girl who has nothing to compare to. Does J Crew have cashmere in the store? From all the shopping I have done there, I don't recall ever seeing it.
ReplyDeleteI think Banana carries that pill stone. I have always wanted to try it. The shavers are tedious, and I usually make holes in the item with them.
I'm most happy about J.Crew adding more smaller sizes - size 00 & P00!
ReplyDeletemines included an 20% off coupon for my next jcrew.com order
ReplyDeleteAmy,
ReplyDeleteI hear you! My first cashmere was from Kohl's too from winter 2006 for about $30. For the money it has held up really well.
I do own some JCrew cashmere but would not buy again.
My sister found me a second hand Lord and Taylor cahsmere sweater tht is to die for! Thick and super soft and zero pilling.
OK, I have to disagree with you about the burnout tee- I just bought it at the Aspen store and am wearing it right now. It's totally not a regular t-shirt. It's super soft and kind of unique, like their Japanese cotton stuff from last year, that I couldn't get enough of. I think it's worth the money but you might want to wait until it goes on sale- although, I have the impression that they are kind of limited in quantity. Could be wrong, though...
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know that I received a 20% offer in my copy of the August catalog - do not know if anyone had alerted you to this or not.
