Just a reminder that J.Crew is offering customers 30% off any purchase from their Summer Sale {no minimum} and free shipping (over $150 *after* discounts applied) with promo code EXTRA30. This offer is ends today, Thursday, 7/29/10.
I did end up getting one item: the Luxe Knit Bloomer Short (Item 26449; $45.00, now $29.99). Now before you start laughing about my purchase, hear me out on this one... I like to wear shorts underneath my dresses. (Especially J.Crew's baby doll dresses like the Lobster Dress, where you can't even tell I am wearing shorts.) Right now I use a great pair of black Reebok running shorts. However, I needed a lighter color pair to wear under my lighter color dresses. So I got a pair of these shorts in Soft Dove from J.Crew hoping they will work. Wearing shorts under dresses sounds a bit weird, I know. But they actually make me feel super comfortable (and they are much easier to wear then Spanx).
Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting before the sale ends?
Yeah but, don't shorts attain the opposite goal of Spanx, add bulk? Do you just feel more protected (in a modesty/accidental viewing manner) with shorts on? You should check out the skorts (don't laugh) at Kohls. They had cute army greenish wrinkled type ones that look cute with a girly pink/peach summer top.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I am with you on shorts under dresses. I finally figured out that's what I need to do, so I got a pair of bike pants from Forever 21. Only $4.80 and they're thin, but not ultra thin like tap pants. Delia's also has bike pants. Now that's an 80s trend I can do for sure. At least w/certain dresses.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, that's a cute idea. I may have to try it one day with some of my fuller dresses.
ReplyDeleteI almost always have to wear spanx with my pencil skirts though to hide my baby fat. ;-)
Btw, I placed couple orders on the first day of this promo and I stopped checking back. I'm not staying up for popbacks, which I think will be rare given the low inventory.
ReplyDeleteThe website just updated with new sale items!!!
ReplyDeleteStuff that just went on sale:
- Silk Motorcycle Jacket in Mink
- Suckered Gingham Shirt (the second round)
- Palisade Cardigan in all colors
Well those are the things I got anyway. The Silk Taffeta Riveter Coat in my size and color also showed up again, so I added that to my cart and am hoping it will ship! I'm glad for this sale update, I think it's the one that was supposed to come last night (I actually stayed up for it ^_^;;;) but it never came.
Yesssss I just knocked off every item from my summer wishlist, if all goes as hoped. Very satisfied. My fall wishlist is shaping up to look like:
ReplyDelete- Rimini Cardigan in Nutmeg, or perhaps Cobblestone or Black Pine. I like this because it doesn't look like a typical square, button-down cardigan and feels more like a pullover too. Plus some of the colors are unique and not in my closet yet.
- Side-Zip Sweatshirt in Heather Charcoal, to wear with my new Skimmer Pants in Irish Moss. The sweatshirt looked absolutely amazing on and impressively isn't huge, like some of their XS tops lately.
- Maybe the Peekaboo Sequin Cardigan in Vintage Wisteria. This color really does have the delightfully whimsical look as per the description.
- One more Perfect Fit Long-Sleeved Crewneck Tee, in Dark Rosewood. These are awesome b/c they're your no-thinking, roll-out-of-bed-and-pull on top that's not fussy or strappy and uncomfortable on a tired winter's day.
- Maybe a Tissue V-Neck or Turtleneck. Would be good for layering without adding too much bulk, and I rather like the Deep Shale color.
i am thinking about ordering the ruched v-neck dress in xxs?
ReplyDeleteanybody tried the xxs? any comments about fit?
TIA
Whatever works for you with dresses I guess...:)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter wears shorts with her dresses to school so she can play and not "worry".
I couldn't wear shorts with dresses though. Too me beats the whole purpose of wearing the dress to begin with...light and airy feeling in the summer:) However, the silk ones you got should be nice!
Amy: My shorts under dresses is part psychological part comfort. I do feel more protected in case of accidental viewing. (I actually remember being in Barcelona and it was super windy and some poor girl's dress flew all the way up revealing her undies. I thought thank goodness she had a pair on!) But also, it makes wearing dresses more comfortable in the hot Summer days. (My inner thighs do touch together a bit, who's doesn't, right? ;) So Wearing shorts help.) I should check out the skorts at Kohls! :)
ReplyDeleteGigiOfCa: Bike pants! I thought about those too! I was looking for athletic shorts to wear underneath and all I could find was Tennis Shorts, but bike pants are good too! :)
JCrewPhD: I like Spanx alot- they are great too! But after a few hours I find them to be uncomfortable too.
SocialScientist: Thank you so much for the list of what went on sale. Happy to see new stuff added! :)
Ina: I haven't tried on the dress yet. However, you may want to call or chat online with J.Crew's customer service and ask about size measurements for the XXS. :)

ReplyDeletehi all,
ReplyDeletewhat is the difference between the suckered gingham shirt and the suckered gingham perfect shirt? are they different from the cotton check shirt?
thanks!
the Gallery-stripe Marlie shell (item 27816) is now $59.99
ReplyDeletethe Bay Stripe Perfect shirt (27175) is 39.99
and the Fade out sailor tees in silver and pink are $29.99
yay!
Bloomers under a dress! Love it! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy FS order arrived yesterday and everything is fab. Super happy to have gotten the tailored rinse denim pencil skirt in a smaller size (selling my size 10, NWOT, if anyone is in the market -- elaine dot hamill at gmail dot com) ... also my two beloved suckered gingahm perfect shirts (I want the purple one so badly it's killing me, argh!) and my tissue ruffle tanks. The neon citrus one is way brighter than it appeared online, but I think I can work it if I tone it down with some gray shorts. That color and the paris pink one only look good on me when I have a tan going on. Otherwise, eeep!
Now if Old Navy could just ship as fast as JC, I'd be thrilled. They got my order a whole day before JC did and yet their package hasn't arrived yet. And it's not THAT much farther away! I am absolutely dying to try on the denim jacket I ordered. Crossing my fingers that it fits properly -- the online reviews were out of this world!
:-)
Nothing for me. I ran into my B&M last night to make a couple of returns and there was only one other person in there. I glanced at a few of the new arrivals but nothing really caught my eye enough to try it on. The entire store looked muted and sad.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I am with you! I still have several pair of spandex shorts from my volleyball-playin' days, and I have definitely been known to wear them underneath dresses and skirts. I had an experience similar to the one you saw in Barcelona (it involved walking over an AC vent that was on the floor that I didn't know was on...)
ReplyDeleteOh, on subject, I have been staying STRONG and haven't ordered anything from the sale yet.
How does a size zero compare to a zero petite in jackets? I usually wear a size zero, but I was wondering if 0P would be too snug? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMomoberry, I am usually a 0 and I find that even the 2P in jackets is too short/snug in the shoulders but maybe it's just me.
ReplyDeleteThe Metallic Beach Cardigan went finally on sale this morning if anyone is interested ($89.99). I bought it when it firt came out (in February!) and I wore it a lot, it instantly adds shine and interested to an outfit, especially if you are wearing a bright top.
I caved yesterday and bought last year wool pencil skirt in black (they have plenty in 2P) as I think that I like it better than the new double serge one, a pair of toothpick jeans in the amore wash, the knit denim leggings (not sure about these but no FS) and two belts. I am quite unimpressed by the new arrivals, otherwise I would have probably saved my money.
Lizzy T-Good question! The suckered gingham shirt 26238 I believe is the one I saw in the stores just last weekend; they are very thin/shear and I could see my hand behind. But as others have said, that might be OK for layering (and I plan to wear mine under sweaters anyway. ) HTH!
ReplyDeleteI caved and bought some shoes. I'd been coveting the Alecia leather heels in pale toffee so I splurged the $140 (after 30% off). I also got a pair of gladiator sandals. Yay! I clicked on the metallic beach cardigan (I would love it in silver!) but it comes up as full price. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteLizzy T: I believe there are 2 very subtle differences: #1, the size of the checks are smaller on the perfect shirt version. #2, the cut is a tad slimmer in the perfect shirt version, whereas the other is more boxy. I'm pretty sure the suckered fabric is the same. I have the perfect shirt version in blackberry and ADORE it. It has a very flattering, feminine fit.
ReplyDeletesocialscientist: My Silk Taffeta Riveter Coat arrives today. I am so excited! I will be sure and post once it arrives :)
ReplyDeleteoops...sub
ReplyDeleteI sympathize Alexis and Gigiofca! I ride my bike to work but still love dresses. H&M has some spandex shorts that are like a hybrid of bike shorts and really short leggings. They're also about $5 each.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, your Barcelona story also reminds me of the SATC episode where Carrie is wearing a beautiful striped full skirt but gets caught in a wind storm. :)
Still expensive on sale but can anyone comment on the bronzed bubble skirt? It looks so pretty online but I'd be interested to know how it fits (which is why I detest final sale)
ReplyDeleteElaine: I thought the same thing! That I was getting Bloomer Shorts to wear as Bloomers! ;)
ReplyDeleteAppGal: Volleyball shorts are also a good alternative! That is too funny about the AC vent on the floor. That only confirms my need to wear shorts under dresses! ;)
Momoberry: I agree with Ema. 0P is much smaller than a 0. I also agree that a 2P is still smaller than a regular 0, but 4P is larger than a regular 0.
Rosie: I remember that SATC episode! At least the girl in Barcelona had an amazing body, so she could pull that incident off without much embarrassment. Me, not so much. ;) I will definitely check out H&M's selection now too! :)
I don't think the shorts under skirts thing is for me, although my niece does it (but she's 8). If it works, I say go for it. No one should know anyway, so what does it matter? I waited until yesterday morning to order b/c they normally mark down on Wednesdays. Well, for some reason, the markdowns happened today. All colors in the frances blouse are now on sale, which is what I've been waiting for. :) So, I guess I'll place another order. Than that's it until tax free weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the sizing help!
ReplyDeleteMetallic Beach Cardigan - can anyone comment on how this fits?
ReplyDeleteI take an S in Jackie and V-neck cashmere cardis, but I found that an XS was fitting better in the Alpaca Long cardi that just arrived in stores.
And I see it is back at FP again. :p
Well Ikicked off my day on a sour note! Zoomed from the dentist straight to my B&M, where they were holding a bright lilac suckered gingham shirt for me. They'd even told me over the phone they could price-match the online sale price as long as they called it in and verified it. (I think it's poopy that the stores are selling these at FP!)
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, the SA goes to ring it up and it's $49.99. And I say, very nicely, 'erm, do I not get the extra 30% off since it's a sale item?' And she looks at me like I'm an idiot and says, 'it's still full price in our store, so no.'
I politely declined to purchase it and left. What peeves me is even to order it online, the tax and shipping negate any discount unless you buy other stuff too. I really REALLY wanted that shirt, so I bought that and some polos for DH and my son, but I'm still steamed. And I let them have it in the post-purchase survey comments!
GRRRRRR.
Rose, definitively go with an XS, (I am a S in Jackies as well, but I normally buy XS in the long cardigans).
ReplyDeleteI could swear that I saw it on sale this morning!
Rose, I ordered the XS in the silver color for $62.99 very early this morning. I'm usually a small in Jackies, too. Also noticed when I checked the site later this morning that the metallic camel is showing up regular price and the silver isn't showing up at all. Strange! Thanks for the sizing info, Ema. Welcome back -- I hope you had a great trip!
ReplyDeleteThe metallic cardi could be showing up full price b/c they've brought it back. It was out with new arrivals last week in my b&m.
ReplyDeleteshopalot, thanks! BTW, post with vacation pics is up on my blog (incidentally one or two with the metallic beach cardigan that I wore non-stop).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ema & shopalot!
ReplyDeleteOn now about Alecia's... do these fit TTS? I tried the leopard ballet flats in size 8 (my regular size in shoes), and am wondering if the Alecia's fit the same.
Thanks for the tip on the metallic beach cardigan, Ema. I grabbed one as soon as I saw your post. I've been wanting one for a long while but couldn't justify full price. I had a feeling they would sell out quickly (like the popback green tweed charter skirt I missed out on this morning) but I never could have believed they'd be moved back into full price so quickly. I'm glad I acted fast.
ReplyDeleteJust an addendum, I just checked and the cardigan is still listed in the sale section for those of you who wanted to get it.
ReplyDeleteMoya, you are welcome. I think that the reason why is showing FP is that only the silver went on sale and quickly sold-out, while the camel is still FP. Those interested in the silver should watch for popbacks.
ReplyDeleteThis is a review, but since it's a final sale item, thought I'd post here as well :)
ReplyDeleteSuper 120s Andre Dress (23219)—Added this to my basket after reading some reviews that said the low v-neck could be fixed. When it didn’t show up as final sale, I decided to go ahead and get it. I mean for $70, it’s a steal! I am disappointed to report that the V-neck really is DANGEROUSLY low. That is not an exaggeration. And I don’t see how the v-neck can be sewn together to make it look better… I think there would just be too much bulkiness. It also seems REALLY short on me too… I am 5’ and ordered a P0. Other than that, it fits TTS, although slightly snug in the waist area.
I got up irl pics of the Ginny dress in this post.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the metallic beach cardi. I definitely saw it in all sizes in silver for $69.99 online this morning. I'll bet it sold out. The gold is fp and still avail.
I reactify. I just checked and it appears that if you click on the metallic beach cardigan from the sale sweater section (ie, not through a search), the silver is there in all the sizes (and on sale). Sorry for the confusion.
ReplyDeletep.s. Yeah...boo on the Andre dress. Irl pics in this post. Total pass for me w/the neckline, but fwiw, someone mentioned that they wear a scarf to cover up the chest.
ReplyDeleteI have a correction, too. The silver cardi is $89.99 before the addtl 30%.
ReplyDeleteTip for the JCA's in Columbus, Ohio: I was in the dressing room in the B&M at Easton when I overheard one of the SAs on the phone with the B&M at Polaris. Apparently, Polaris is giving 40% off final sale, but Easton is giving 30% off and a customer called them on it. I'm not sure if they're going to rectify the situation.
ReplyDeleteOn the same topic, the sale section at Easton is pretty dismal. A few things in size 0 or 12, but not much in between.
Elaine - sorry to hear about your experience. But it made me think about the suckered gingham shirt. How do you wear it?
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that everything at Banana Republic is an additional 30% off, including sale items. And none of it is final sale. Guess who got my money today?
ReplyDeleteHi Lizzy, this is like my 5th (?) seersuckered gingham shirt! :-)
ReplyDeleteI started out with the original navy and white cotton check shirt that everyone went bonkers for, but the fit was too boxy for me, and I just felt like I was wearing a tablecloth. I couldn't make it work with anything -- it looked too stiff and dressy.
What I love most about the suckered gingham shirt is the fabric -- it's very soft and slouchy and comfy, especially in this raging 100-degree heat wave we've had here in the South.
Secondly I love the silhouette, which is more tailored / nipped in at the waist than other button-downs.
Most of the time I wear it as a casual shirt with white shorts or busted-up denim boyfriend shorts; one day I wore one with white cropped denim matchsticks and a sparkly necklace for casual Friday. You could certainly later it over a favorite tank or perfect tank, but I haven't tried that yet.
I looked at some white cafe capris in the store today and may have bought them if they'd had my size. :-)
Others will probably have better ideas on how to style these shirts -- maybe some ways to dress it up as opposed to down? ... Styling sadly is not my forte. But I'm thinking about calling and having the Abyss Blue shirt added to my order. LOL! HTHs....
Thanks Elaine! I might have to pick up the blue and the purple!
ReplyDeleteAny feedback on the Alecias? I've been wanting them forever, but don't know if I should do it (Should I save the $ for Fall?) Any thoughts? TIA!
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for a ride-along to meet the minimum for free shipping, a suggestion is the merino open cardigan. At $28 (after 30% off), I was happy with this 14-gauge merino sweater. It's more slimming than the everyday cardigan because it's not A-line, it also has pockets. Looks good open or belted. I had to size down though to extra small & got the orchid shadow & lagoon green. I still see many colors in different sizes.
ReplyDeleteJackie: thanks for the review of the Andre dress. I have been deliberating over whether or not to pull the trigger on this one and think I will pass. Like you I am a petite (P00) and in addition to being concerned initially about the plunging neckline, now I am also deterred by the length. Are you going to keep it, if it isn't marked final sale? Do you still think it's worth the $70? TIA
ReplyDeleteLizzy T, I LOVE the Alecia suede platform peep toes! I got the black one at the sample sale and just got the pumice stone color at the store yesterday with the extra 30% off! I did try on the leather ones but doesn't like how it looks but love the suede ones so I ended up getting 2 colors!
ReplyDeleteI like how Alecia isn't too high... all the new heels seem to be way too high for me... 4 1/8" heel with 3/4" exterior platform! Seriously??
Stella,
ReplyDeleteI'm going to return the dress. It is great quality, but what's the point if the v-neck is too low that I'll always be worried about spilling over? And I just don't think the length is professional either. I guess if I'm returning it, I don't think it's worth the $70. Such a bummer :(
I just got back from the J. Crew in downtown San Francisco and they are offering an additional 40% off on sale items. There really isn't much left, sadly.
ReplyDeleteOK...I've severely tempted...
ReplyDeleteBling Button Cotton Cardi's: How do they fit? I take a medium in the Jackies. Should I stick with medium? Been needing a white and a navy cardi all spring/summer long...
Suckered Gingham shirts: I take a Petite Medium in the Stretch Shirts, should I go with a P8 or P10? Totally tempted by the lavender and dark blue renditions.
Thanks, ladies, in advance for any advice!
Also meant to ask about the merino open cardigan. Medium like the Jackie OK or should I size down? What's the bronzed clay colour like in real life? It looks pinky-beige on my monitor...TIA!!
ReplyDeleteCloset Crisis, I take a medium in the jackie and a medium in the bling button cardis. Sorry, I can't comment on the other items. I love the bling button cardis - I bought 3 last year! They're nice and light, which is perfect for warm weather. Oh, and the buttons are much easier to work with this year. :)
ReplyDeleteLadies,
ReplyDeleteI need some advice. So I've heard positive things about the Alecias and I'm almost ready to buy them, but I'm wondering if it makes more sense to get a pair of tortoiseshell patent pumps...and I could wear those in Summer/Fall (with the double serge pencil in bronzed ocher and more). What do you think? I'd love to get both, but I want some Fall clothes...
Thanks!
Closet Crisis, I agree w/taking your Jackie size for the bling button. Irl pics in this post.
ReplyDeleteFor the suckered perfect shirt, take your regular numeric size in J Crew tops. I take a 4 or 6 in them (34c) and fit the 4 great. Irl pics in this post.
I normally wear L in sweaters and M or L in shirts. I ordered the bling button cardi in L and it was way tight on me. I took it back to the store and returned it. The SA agreed that they do run very snug. She suggested sizing up. HTH.
ReplyDeleteJackie, sorry to what happened with the Andre. I had it in my cart but so many of the other JCAs seemed to be having a problem with the low neck that I didn't place the order, even though the plum color is so pretty. Thank goodness for the JCA community!
ReplyDeleteOn a related note, I tried on the matte jersey Marot dress yesterday on one of my rare trips to the B&M. Thumbs down! In cut it appears to be the Andre dress with the addition of short sleeves--same problem with the neckline. Unlike the Banquette, it wasn't cut so low that it actually showed center of my bra, but it still showed way too much boob and skin. Also, I didn't like the poly blend fabric, though I see where it could be nice for travel.
Lizzy T, JMO, but I vote tortoise pumps. I know that we have a lot of Alecia fans here but I think the tortoise multi looks great year-round.
ReplyDeletethanks gigi, math teacher and jruby18! love this community!
ReplyDeleteHexicon, agree with you 100% about the matte jersey marot dress. I really dislike the fabric.
ReplyDeleteAs far as suiting dresses go, I love the Naeva dress, although it runs a little big. I also ordered the Emmaleigh about a month ago but it's backordered until November!
Lizzy T - the new Suckered Gingham Shirt (the one that's not the Perfect one and also not sold out) also has a pocket on it while the Perfect one doesn't. It was in the "Back by Popular Demand" section so I imagine it was created to be a second round of the apparently very popular original item.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who's worn and washed theirs, does it shrink? I bought some from the store but am wondering if I should return them for the Petite ones online. They are kind of baggy on me, but I'm worried if the length might shrink too much.
jcrewjunkie - How exciting! I imagine they must have arrived already. I'm eager to hear about how they went for you! Especially sizing, fit, and all. Which color did you get? Somehow, miraculously, it looks like my whole order has shipped even though I was seriously expecting the Riveter Jacket not to. My size and color were gone (failed to ship once before) prior to this most recent update, so I thought the reappearance must've just been a fluke. In any case, super excited for mine too! Can't wait to style it like they did in the catalog. I got the yellow, so I hope it won't be too bright.
I just got the suede Alecias I ordered final sale. They're gorgeous and I can tell they'd be great on a narrow foot, but warning, they are not ideal for wide feet. They are NARROW. I'm going to try them on again later and see if I can make them work. I feel like they might be able to stretch a little bit. Great construction and shape though
ReplyDelete
