J.Crew Spotted in Vogue

A big "thanks!" to Gem Twin, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the latest issue of Vogue, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The item is J.Crew's Jenna Cardigan (Item 24712; $70.00) in "Dark Raisin". J.Crew describes the top as the following:
Our creative director, Jenna, asked the design team to come up with the perfectly cropped cardigan to wear specifically with a dress (any dress), and voilĂ . Short but not too short, with a higher ribbed hem (so it's more fitted and slightly dressier), it is, indeed, absolutely perfect. Merino wool in a 14-gauge knit. Crewneck. Three-quarter sleeves. Hits above hip. Import. Dry clean. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
That cardigan is in a deliciously rich shade of violet. Although I am not a fan of the cropped cardigan, I do think the styling of that outfit in Vogue is absolutely gorgeous! :)

What are your thoughts on the cardigan featured? Do you own these Jenna Cardigans? If so, please share! :)

  1. I agree! The eggplant color of the cardigan is gorgeous, and I would snap it up in a second if it weren't cropped. I really am not a fan of cropped cardis.

  2. I hope there will be more of these rich cool tones for fall. Not a fan of the browns and greens. Bring on the purple, rust, wine and blue.

  3. I'm sad to hear they're itchy, Heidi. Since I sometimes even find cashmere to be itchy, I'm sure these would be a no go for me. Too bad.

I'm always looking for the perfect cropped cardigan. It's the ideal topper for me, as I'm very short-waisted and wear a lot of dresses with full skirts.

  4. JCrew has done this color of dark raisin before...I own it in the ladder stich long cardigan circa (well, several winters ago....2003 o4 2004)

  5. The color is absolutely gorgeous! Cropped isn't the greatest, but it is OK as intended, for skirts and dresses. The part that I'm meh on is the high ribbed trim, it's a bit late nineties to me.

  6. I love the color, it reminds me of that beautiful 'Iris' shade they used for the Eden jacket last year. But I can't say I'll ever wear a cropped cardigan. I'm fairly long-waisted (and I know Jenna is too!) so I can't see how this would be even remotely flattering on me, but I wouldn't have much of an occasion to wear it anyway.

  7. They are designed to wear with dresses, so I would like to see them styled that way ;)

  8. LOVE the color. Stunning. I seriously wish that J Crew would make some sleeveless mock turtlenecks (instead of crewnecks) to go with their Jackie cardis, especially in those fabulous jewel tones. That would be a dream come true for me.

  9. I didn't find it itchy, Heidi. But I'm a rather insensitive lout :)

I don't think this cardigan is overly cropped. It is made to hug the waist and it does that very well. I think it looks great with pencil skirts because it helps create that hourglass effect, at least on me. I'm a big fan of the Jenna cardi. I wish it were also available in cotton since I live in the desert and my timeframe for wearing wool is so short. The style is gorgeous in my opinion and very versatile.

  10. I'm wearing my Jenna cardigan over a dress right now :) I like it a lot and I'm going to get another color.

I don't find it itchy. I also don't consider it cropped -- there's just about 6 inches of ribbing which makes it fit very nicely.

  11. Color is awesome.I am not usually a fan of cropped except with dresses. I wish they would do it in cotton. Wool is always itchy on me and of late the JC wool I have purchases seems to pill up really quickly.

  12. I really liked cropped cardigans for wearing with dresses that have an empire or fitted waist, since they don't *hide* the waistline of the dress. It's funny this is called the Jenna cardigan since the cropped cardis have been around for awhile now. I still have one that I purchased at F21 a couple years ago that I break out every now and then when the weather cools down. I would consider this one on sale, but not at full price, especially with numerous other retailers offering the same silhouette.

  13. I have tried the Jenna cardi, and returned it. I actually found it too long, even though I am quite tall (5'7"). I noticed the cardi is actually tied in a knot above the waist in this photo. I don't think I'd ever wear it that way, you'd have an annoying wool ball sitting on the abdomen all day.
I do love the color, though!
