J.Crew Email: New year. New arrivals. In stores and online.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following news & email J.Crew sent this morning.

J.Crew is reminding us about their latest new arrivals that are available for purchase online and brick & mortar (B&M) stores.

A few footnotes... [1] This email is a wee bit late for us JCAs, considering new arrivals hit stores last week and online last Wednesday (refer to the "J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!" post). [2] No free shipping of any kind? Really J.Crew? That makes me so sad! :(

Are there any new arrivals you are interested in? Do you think J.Crew will have a new promotion/ code soon?

  1. The Striped Popover featured on the Jan cover is now sold out already in size s in the blue. Inventories must be low.

I like the Skimmer pant however I will wait until I read more reviews on the fit and sizing before I buy.

  2. Just got the catalogue today... Nothing I'm dying for, and lots of stuff from the fall and holiday catalogues. Lots of just "ehn" stuff for me.

  3. Re: free shipping, if you haven't worked with a personal shopper before, they sometimes offer free shipping for the first time you purchase something from them. You can say you "heard it from a friend" if you'd like. (Friend = me.. close enough!) But yeah, nothing I'm dying for.. a few cute new colors of the cashmere tees but without free shipping or any kind of discount.. I'll wait.

  4. The only thing I really want are the Abby cap toe ballet flats in black/nude. I saw them in person the other day & they are lovely.

  5. I got my catalog today! I was happily surprised:) Fun to look at. I am not buying though! I don't need anything right now.

  6. I just got an email reminding me that I have items left in my cart. I should shop now because JC stuff goes fast it says! Now if they had given me a percent off my cart they would have gotten me, but for now I can wait.

  7. Yeah, I'm definitely not bowled over just yet. I thought the Zoey blazer was cute until I clicked on the mannequin shot. Then...not so much. Maybe this is one of those 'better on than on the hanger' items.

  8. I liked the Skimmer pant a lot, but at the same time I felt the sizing was way off. I'm usually a size 2 or zero, and I had to size down to a double zero (never in my life had I done that before!) to get the pants to fit right and not loose! I would definitely try these in store before purchasing.

  9. Momoberry, I wondered if the sizing on the skimmer pants was weird. I'm definitely waiting to purchase these for that reason--well, and the fact that it won't be warm enough to wear them for about six months, lol.

  10. I like some of the dresses with the cowl necks, although some of them have been available for a while already. I've never owned a cowl, can someone give an opinion on whether they work for larger-busted figures or is it a style best-avoided? Last thing I want is more bustline bulk but they sure look pretty.

    TIA

  11. I like the ombre dots cardigan, the dotted nouvelle skirt, and the crosshatch line of suiting - especially the Blaine jacket. I love the little twists Jcrew throws on a traditional suit.

I'm a little confused by the Ruthie - to me, it looks like little tumor squiggles or something unfortunately is happening to your skin.

  12. I caved and bought the stained glass cardigan over the weekend... also like the ombre dots cardi...
Other than that I'm waiting for a promo on one of the Beacon bags and some shoes.

I was hoping for a FS code also...no new mark downs?

  13. I tried on the skimmer and wore the same size as the cafe capri and cocktail capri. I really like them but will wait for a promo. Even here in SC, it will be a couple of months before I could wear them (unless I wear them with boots, which is a thought :D).

  14. lol @ amanda--to me, the Ruthie makes the wearer look like she got attacked by a teenager with silly string on halloween.

  15. I've been contemplating the Panneau Silk cami, have added it to my cart twice in the past few days, and each time it has disappeared. Today it showed back in stock in the larger of my 2 J.Crew sizes and then disappeared again...very frustrating. I would really like to at least be able to try it before it goes to Final Sale to know for sure if it's going to work for me. I hope another free shipping code shows up just in case my size gets restocked. I think I can probably wait on the rest of my wishlist though.

  16. I only have my eye on the new driving mocs and ballet flats in pale colors at the moment, craving a little "Spring."

I may be the only one but ... I left the Stained Glass Cardi at the store yesterday. I don't love it. The print and colors are just so MEMORABLE, I feel like I could only wear it once or someone will say "Here she comes in that sweater again!" I'll leave it the other JCAs to rock it.

  17. Ruffles,
I am with you. I don't care for the sweater at all...easy for me to leave behind as well...

  18. Not in love with any of the new items-- Plus, here in New England it's too cold to think about wispy, "lightweight" fabrics and more pastels!!

  19. xoxo, I'm a recent (large busted) cowl-convert! I think that if it doesn't dip too low, the look can be soft and feminine without being too revealing. It's a good way to emphasize your assets in a non-tight top way. Sometimes I feel like "whoah, here come the boobs" in formfitting shirts, but going baggy is dowdy and matronly on a larger chest, IMO. The cowl is a great, pretty compromise. I'm certainly not one to de-emphasize my good features, but I'm not into putting everything out there. I did a search for "cowl" on JC, and the metro dresses look like they'd be great. Cowls are so nice, also, since they give an extra inch or two of room, unlike a sheath for instance, if the fabric is rigid/ without a bit of stretch. Oh, and the Tatiana gown is so gorgeous! I love the side buttons and the lace on the back, so pretty. Its top doesn't look like it has much extra fabric though, more of a whiff of cowl. Anyway, I say go for it, just avoid anything on FS until you find the right fit for you. Happy shopping!

PS, having typed the word cowl like eighty times in the past couple minutes, it is starting to sound funny! I wish it was called something a little more flattering and less bovine...

  20. xoxo, I find that cowls work for me in a fabric with stretch... it adds definition to the waist so I don't look so top-heavy. Plus, they're never too cleavage revealing. I haven't purchased any of JC's cowl items, but WHBM has several cowl dresses that have worked for me. Hope this helps!

  21. OT: Am I completely OCD for wanting to return this tee? I got the CC "Flower Power" slub tee for my daughter on a popback, and it's absolutely adorable. I'm a sucker for the slub, the color is great, the embroidery is nicely done, a win all the way. Then I saw the back of the shirt and got really annoyed! There's a small paragraph written in tiny white typeface about the sad fate of bees. "Did you know that our Honey Bee's are disappearing?... Imagine life without strawberries, cherries or vanilla ice cream?"

I am by no means a grammar or spelling nazi, but I don't know if I can let it go. DH recommends trying to scratch off the offending apostrophe and question mark, but I worry about putting holes in the shirt. These errors are every bit as bad as showing the pin jobs in model shots, and I don't really want my daughter to look like she's unedited!

  22. CheesyGoodness: You need to start a blog...you crack me up on a regular basis. I think there may be a hint of a blog that you already started, but I HEART your writing.

In re: crewcuts tee, I bought a tee in Japan specifically because it was full of mistakes...just made me smile a bit, you know?

So maybe you can smile a bit when you read and re-read that paragraph (happens a lot, I am sure, when you have to run after the toddler, at least that is what I have to do with mine)! :)

  23. CheesyGoodness and LT - thank you for the comments on the cowls. Your advice is really appreciated because I can't always get a dress off the rack. I need to buy dresses to fit the bust and usually have a tailor bring in the skirt. So they have to be a winner for me to pay full price, shipping, duty and taxes (I'm in Canada) and tailor fees on top of it all.

There are some lovely dresses on J.Crew right now, sounds like I should take the plunge, hehe. And I agree Cheesy, the name makes me think bovine too. :P

  24. What is with J.Crew's pigeon-toed model pose for pants, and the hunch-back model pose for tops? Is it chic to try to look like a timid little girl -- submissive, awkward and insecure? Is that the image J.Crew wants to project? So annoying.

  25. I am considering the
solid embossed shift dress in soft dove as a dress choice for my bridesmaids. Has anyone seen it in person? On the model the fit looks great from the back, but I'm worried that the front of the skirt might look frumpy or weird with the big pleat.

Love to hear your impressions. Thanks!

  26. Cheesy Goodness, lol at the grammar tee!

Danielle, ITA about the poses. They actively turn me off, especially compared to the smiling, confident groups of models we saw in the catalogs circa 2007. The finger-in-mouth pose on the Holiday catalog makes the model look "special" . . . and as an online customer I've learned the hard way that the hunchback pose is often used to disguise a neckline that is too low, such as the Banquette dress.

  27. So funny you should say that -- my holiday catalog just arrived today! This is the first catalog I've received in YEARS, despite requesting one many, many times. (Really amusing, I wish it was as easy to get off the Victoria's Secret catalog mailing list!) Anyway, was really sad to see all the winter items styled and then remember that all the pieces I'm interested in are already totally sold out! : ( Heidi, I'll cross my fingers for you to receive yours sometime this year!

  28. dinagideon, thanks for the compliment! It's especially awesome since I totally admire your style, both in fashion and writing!

xoxo, glad to be a bit of help. Let us know what you get and how it works out for you and the girls.

  29. I cannot remember such a disappointing crew day.

First, my catalog arrived and there is NOTHING new I want. I don't like the styles or colors and I HATE the styling and poses (thank you Danielle!!) I have never had this experience in my whole crew-life!

Second, I finally had that unpleasant experience of finding an item in my package completely different from what I ordered. It wasn't even a popback! Natch, it is now sold out. To add insult to injury, the girl I talked to in CS was so blase about it. Hopefully my PS will have a suggestion or something.

    Not good, JCrew, not good.

  30. Well, at least there are no ankle socks in this catalog!

I like the Long beach cardi and the printed popover, both of which are already backordered.

  31. Dear PfP -- the zoey blazer is really cute. I think it would look adorable on you. It looks horrible on the mannequin parce que le mannequin n'est pas une femme jolie! It does take the shape of its wearer. It's a very thin, drapey, unlined piece, fairly long, and looks really pretty and casual for summer. More of a sweater replacement. Can't wait to see it with a white skirt. And only 49, well. . .
