J.Crew Email: Meet Brodie, our most-wanted bootie...

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the latest email J.Crew sent today.

The email features the Brodie Leather Ankle Boots (Item 24912; $325.00) which is described as:
A fresh take on the classic monk-strap shoe, with perforated detailing borrowed from the boys (our designers were inspired by a pair of traditional men's wing tips) and a stacked heel in our favorite new shape—this is the pair that's completely cool and stylishly sophisticated. Add in the fact that we gave it a hidden platform, it's incredibly comfortable too (it's the one you'll wear 24/7).
Those ankle boots are adorable– I really like the perforated detailing & straps. Although the shoe has a pretty high 3 5/8" stacked heel, there is at least a a 3/8" hidden platform– making it slightly more comfortable to walk around in. As for the $325 price tag... wow!

What are your thoughts on the Brodie Leather Ankle Boots? Do you like or dislike the style of the ankle boots? :)

  1. These are a thumbs-down for me. I prefer the sleeker look of the Metropolitan or Cadogan.

  2. They look very uncomfortable to me. I generally prefer flats.

  3. I think they are ugly and very expensive!

  4. I love these!!! But, they would have to be more like $100-150 for me to bite.... not sure that will ever happen!! I really love the color, style, everything! However, as Jeanne already pointed out... J.Crew shoes always KILL my feet... I'm sure these would, too!

  5. I loved these too - but the price is a bit more than I'd like to pay for something of JCrew quality. And they're not really a work shoe (at least for my formal law office), so the heel is A LOT higher than I'd buy for something casual.

  6. I like them but think they are definitely overpriced. Not to mention I already have a similar pair I picked up a couple weeks ago at Belk for $40. They were a great price, well made, and are extremely comfortable, too. :)

  7. No way. I do NOT do bootie boots. These make me want to cry. I can appreciate the craftsmanship but that's about it. *is old and stodgy and generally not adventurous with clothes*

  8. Love the super-neutral color. But the price tag and heel add up to a deal breaker.

  9. I think they're so cute, but the price is ridiculous.

  10. I love my BR black suede booties, don't knock 'em till you try 'em. However, I would not pay over $300 for JC shoes no matter how cute they are.

  11. hi--OT--but I have a quick question, please.

On the website, on the page with shirts -- the top picture is a chick with the twyla tank tipping her hat. What necklace is she wearing?

    thanks!

  12. Are they serious with that price tag?
The crazy thing is that it'll be sold out in a few weeks.

  13. I have the Metropolitan booties and LOVE them, so this style does appeal to me. I adore a stacked heel, and I really like the leather and the wing tip detail, but I'm not crazy about the buckles. $325 does seem a bit steep, especially now when everyone seems eager to get into spring/cruise wear and not more winter stuff.

  14. I like them, but I think they are too high. I have the Cadogan ankle boots and I LOVE them, they are truly very comfortable.

  15. Personally, I love these boots and would snatch them up in a moment if it weren't for the price tag -Wow! I find them to be stylish and fun, but the heel height does give me pause...even subtracting the platform measurement, the heel is still 3 1/4". Not exactly what I'd call "all-day wear" as J.Crew advertises. But, I guess I can't say for sure until trying them on -- which, unfortunately, you cannot do without purchase since they are a catalog/online item only. And I agree the price is a bit nuts considering most people are interested in spring attire at this time.

  16. Love them! I have two pairs of the Metropolitan booties, and I love those too. I find them pretty comfortable thanks to the hidden platform.

Despite loving the Metro booties at first sight, I couldn't justify paying FP and waited for a promotion. Will wait on these too.

  17. More than half of my wardrobe is J. Crew, but these shoes completely a rip-off of 2 designer shoe lines from just a couple of years ago. I am disappointed in J. Crew for this product. Plus, they were both less than $300!

  18. I don't care for them. The spat plus buckles plus perforated details is too much

  19. Booties are so hit or miss for me. These ones don't offend my delicate sensibilities or anything (price notwithstanding!) but I would not say I was bowled over...

  20. If I could afford these and if I could wear high heels I would buy these. Really cute.

  21. Thumbs down for me at any price

  22. I don't really like the whole ankle-boot trend, but even if I did, I think J Crew overprices all of their shoes.

  23. These are OK and I'm fine with heels of any height (except those that should come with a pole), but personally I would rather spend a little more for something in a higher-quality line. What is a regenerated leather sole anyway?

Booties can be fun but I do not like the look of them with skirts or dresses. It breaks up the leg and accentuates the foot in an unflattering way. Have not seen a case yet where it looked good. JMHO.

  24. I'm dying to get a pair of metropolitan booties but it's hard to justify the cost. I have a few pairs of JC shoes but I always get them on sale. The price point on JC shoes just seem to be a tad high for what you get. I could be mistaken since I've never owned "designer" shoes but if I'm going to spend $300+ for a pair, shouldn't I just buy something really, really nice? I like my JC shoes but the price point just seems to be high for high sake. I think Banana shoes are more reasonable but then of course, I like JC shoes designs more! alas, what to do? :)

  25. No thanks to the canks! This cankle bootie trend has officially gone overboard, and the addition of the monk strap is just loco. Usually I can be suckered into any shoe style with the lacy perforated detailing, but these are a big never, ever for me, at any price.

  26. Sleek, under-stated ankle boots, like the Metropolitan and the Cadogan can look so very nice with the right outfit.

These booties are a bit over-done with the buckles. I could only ever see wearing them with pants, but that kind of defeats the purpose, right?

Love the heel, though, very structural and cool.

    But the price--woah. Steep.

  27. I have too high of an instep for this style of shoe, my foot would go numb. It's sort of cute for someone who can wear it and doesn't mind that high of heel, but $325?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Definitely not my fave bootie...plus $325 is a bit crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  29. They *are* cute but I prefer the style of the Metro or Cadogan ones as several of you have commented.

    ReplyDelete
  30. "No thanks to the canks!" Cheesy, as a bona fide member of the "cankles club," that cracked me up! These would not look good on me at any price ...

    ReplyDelete
  31. i like the menswear detailing but felt they made it too heavy with the buckle strap.

also, i'd really like to see more options with 3" heels and still include the platform -that would be great! still give some nice length to the leg but make it wearable all day, walking up stairs and all around the office. is is just me?

  32. I really like the look of most J.Crew shoes including this one but unfortunately most J.Crew shoes are very uncomfortable. Although most of J.Crew shoes are made in Italy, the quality really surprise me, most of its shoes have really hard insoles and glue are visible at where the pieces meet. Despite of these drawbacks, I still own more than 10 J.Crew shoes. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like them, but they're too high and too expensive for me. I'll look elsewhere for something similar.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I really like them but not for $325. By the time they go on sale, my size will be gone since I wear 5.5. I have the metropolitan booties and these are the same height. I think the metro are quite comfy, I have the suede ones. I wear mostly flats and I don't think they are that high to walk in thanks to the platform.

  35. Ugly and a ripoff. Where does JCrew get off charging this much for uncomfortable, low quality shoes? Yes the leather on the outside might be quality, but nothing else is. The linings on many of my pairs of JCrew shoes are pilling/coming off altogether. Glad I paid like 80% or more off the retail price. I think ankle boots are another ugly trend...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Brodie?! J. Crew, c'mon you probably picked 2009/2010's #1-name-every-frat-guy-wishes-he-had. Look I get you're making a women's version a monk strap shoe but you couldn't call it something like the Elise or the Annabel?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I''m not down with these booties. The double buckles are not for me.

OT- Has anyone seen the cute shirt that is erroneously posted for item 97784, the Perfect-fit short-sleeve V-neck tee? It's a square neck white short sleeve shirt with some petal-like cloth at the neckline and airy sleeves. I want it, but see that I cannot buy it. Perhaps a resort item's image slipped out?

  38. These could be cute styled with a menswear look like slouchy cuffed wool pants and a crisp button-down. It would look like a heeled wing-tip shoe and when you sit down and cross your legs - surprise, you flash an ankle boot and quite an interesting style at that. One of the J.Crew menswear style tips from 2009 was to wear interesting socks with your suits and dress shoes and this could be worn along the same idea for women. Add some interest to a conservative outfit.

I do love ankle boots, they can be worn into the warmer temps, unlike a true boot that would be too hot and out of place, and they give more support than pumps or strappy sandals for those who may not usually wear higher heels. I have to agree with whoever said they do not like ankle boots with dresses though. The proportions just aren't right. Wearing them with pants doesn't defeat the purpose any more than wearing heels with jeans, which is how J.Crew styles almost every pair of denim.

The move to menswear looks for women's shoes is getting into full swing with the oxfords, wing-tips and brogues. I love it.

  39. cyclone - the outfit showing up as item 97784 is adorable! I had to call CS for an issue on one of my orders and so I asked them about it. CS was able to tell me that the shorts will be in the next rollout. They were not sure about the shirt. Since I mentioned it to someone at JC they will probably be "fixing" this picture (aka taking it down). Guess we will have to be on the lookout for it in spring!

  40. I think these are really cute, but not for $325. J Crew shoes are not worth that amount of money and I'd rather spend that for non-manufactured leather soles (I want really leather insole and out sole) or for Chie Mihara's for example which are beautifully made for the money.

I'll watch them if on sale in the $200 range, but by then won't be interested in fall/winter shoes.

  41. Dodai at Jezebel gave this the thumbs down. Her take on the catalog is pretty hilarious if harsh!

The comments about these boots are about the same as here. You can get more fashionable ones for $100.
