Even More Sneak Peeks to Spring 2010

A big "thanks!" to Slastena (check out her amazing "About All and Nothing at All" blog) who was kind enough to share several preview images of J.Crew's latest Spring 2010 collection! :) Just click on any of the images for a larger view.
We have seen lots of images of the Spring 2010 Collection. (Refer to November 27th "Sneak Peek: J.Crew's Holiday Catalog & Spring Look Book " post for the Spring Look Book at the bottom of the post. Moreover, refer to November 17th "More Sneak Peeks for J.Crew's 2010 Collection" post, the October 25th "Additional Sneak Peeks for J.Crew's Collection in 2010" post, October 23rd "Sneak Peek for J.Crew Men's Collection in 2010" post, as well as October 22nd "Sneak Peek for J.Crew Women's Collection in 2010" post.)

Even though I have seen so many Spring previews, I still look forward to seeing some more! :) J.Crew always seems to make me lust after some new arrivals. What I am not lusting over? The c-r-a-z-y styling! The second and third image above have way too much going on top. The third picture (with the pink jacket, check shirt, necklace, sparkly sequin top, with homemade shorts) is outrageous in execution. I am all for dressing in layers, but not like that. No one, I mean no one can pull that look off. Not even the model. Next.

What are your thoughts? Has your opinion on the upcoming line changed? Are you looking forward to the Spring Collection?

  1. The new spring arrivals were in my B&M last week already (they usually get it 2 weeks early). Lots of really cute pieces. They had the jacket in the 2nd pic. Lots of new cardigans and new colors. Jewelry was divine...I believe they also had the necklace that Jenna Lyons wore on the Martha Stewart show. It definitely looked a lot more promising than the last few roll-outs. Looking forward to seeing the new catalog and updates online!

  2. Hey Alexis,
I hear what you're saying about the styling. Although, I do like the idea of dressing down sequins so that they can be more 'day- wear-friendly.' I agree with you that the homemade shorts in the third photo are a little much! LOL. And as for the boat shoes...didn't do them in the '80s and am NOT about to do them now!!!

  3. That third picture reminds me of things from the 80s I DON'T want to see again. Boat shoes? I lived through that time, didn't like them then, and I still don't now. And the buttoned-to-the-top shirt look isn't flattering.

I am intrigued by the tuxedo-ish jacket she is wearing.

  4. The dress in the first pic is pretty, I would like to see it in other colors too. Looks like another version of the Pixie pant, hopefully this time without the exposed back zipper. The jacket with the large flower print looks like a nice cut but I am not wearing anything that looks remotely camo. It has been around too long already and is on the way out. The last photo made me giggle. Why not a simple, pretty skirt and sandals or heels? I get the borrowed from the boys idea but it does not work here. And they seem to keep pushing that sequin tank over a button-down, which is another sad look if you ask me. Trying way too hard.

Another problem with the styling is that double-breasted jackets look sloppy if they are not done up. The only reason to leave them open is if you're trying to extend the wear of a jacket into maternity clothes. Otherwise, you can't be forgiven for leaving it open. No one wants to create the illusion of a larger waistline. Another sign of the 80's coming back this year. Guess I can bring my double-breasted pinstripe suits back out of the storage closet.

  5. I hate that sequin vest and they can style it shorts, they even style it with swimsuits, I'm still not going to like it. On the other hand, the photos make me think they have an upcoming catalog with the spring rollout in someplace exotic. That, I'm really excited about!

  6. The camo just does nothing for me. But I do love that studded little belt in the 1st pic! ITA on the 80s throwbacks and double-breasted jacket comments. Not for me.

  7. I hate the sequin vest and the camouflage jacket and the styling it totally OTT. I wish they'd style the items in a way that's attractive and wearable.

However, I LOVE Sperry Top-Siders. For me, they're not a trend. I've been wearing them for years. But, since I already have several pairs, I probably won't buy more.

Also, I'm not a big fan of double breasted jackets in general, but I do prefer them open over closed. Maybe it's because I'm large busted and they don't seem to hang right when they're closed.

  8. I want to see these pieces on their own - the blazer in the third picture, for example, is such a lovely color! I like that things are tomboy with a little feminine still in there. I rarely am excited about spring clothes, but I have a feeling I might be tempted by a few things from this collection.

  9. Not excited. I saw the Blaine jacket in pewter in-store and it definitely caught my eye. I didn't try it on, but it looks like a great jacket.

  10. "Even though I have seen so many Spring previews, I still look forward to seeing some more..."

That's exactly how I feel! I found myself digging around on the internet this weekend for something, anything!

I like the dress and belt in the first picture. Looking forward to spring/summer. Thanks for the previews! :)

  11. Did any of you see the latest People Stylewatch? There was a J. Crew skirt pictured in a watercolor floral print, predominantly yellow, called Cezanne. J. Crew is actually calling it the Sunshine Peony pencil skirt, cotton, $88. I preordered it, I think it will finally squelch my lemming for the long lost Giverny print pencil skirt!

  12. Thank you for a great blog, Alexis, I have been enjoying it for a while, but hardy ever commented. As far as the Spring 2010 collection, I am a bit confused by all the styling, it seems like they are trying to put too many pieces together at once - and those pieces, styled in a less "cluttered" way, would probably look much more interesting. Yes, stating the obvious, my middle name :-)
OT (slightly) - I got my J Crew edition of Sperry Top Siders in Soft Sandalwood color (NOT the golden ones). Oh are they gorgeous. Fit is true to size, I am between 6.5 and 7, and ordered 6.5, the fit is perfect and they are so comfortable. 7's would be too big. I can't even begin describing the color, which is pretty unique by itself, not too brown, not too tan, slight hint of pink maybe, but not too much - it will go with all things, not just most things. In my frozen land of ice and snow, it is going to be *really hard* to wait for spring, to wear these beauties. Hope this helps the JCAs who are on the fence about these.

  13. Alexis - thanks for great blog! I check it daily, but don't often comment. I'm looking forward to the spring rollout - I hope I'm pleasantly surprised. So far, the styling looks over-the-top for me - too much going on! I am excited to get the new catalog and hope that it's a gorgeous "location" catalog.

  14. OT - I've never bought anything at anthropologie, but saw a cute pair of earrings on the website. Went to the store and they are not there. Don't want to pay shipping for a tiny pair of earrings. Does Anthro have free shipping ever? If you can't find something in the store can you call customer service and ship for free like with J.crew? Any anthro tips are welcome thanks!

  16. I'm never impressed with the previews but I always seem to find plenty of things to spend money on when the rollouts hit. I guess I prefer the simpler styling in the online images over the crazy catalog lady look.

  17. I know some don't like the many layers but the "idea" of and inspiration one gets from how to juxtapose dressy/casual, feminine/masculine, etc is something JCrew does better than almost any other retailer out there.

Besides it being too hot in the South to wear all those layers, I'm also not tall & skinny enough to pull it off. However, I will adapt the look to my personal style; I still like to layer because the different textures & colors adds so much more interest to outfits.

  18. Desert Flower:

Is the skirt in the same print as this crewcuts dress?

Girls' sunshine peony cotton voile dress, Item # 22843?

If so, very cute, springy, and retro print...

  19. I just received a call & an email earlier from a personal shopper from the NYC Soho Prince St. store... she invited me to the Spring preview event next Tuesday 1/26. I'm excited to go check out the new rollouts! There will be refreshments and sweet treats served that evening according to her. Is anyone going as well?

  20. ooh, the photos look so fresh and outdoorsy (in a cobblestone aged city of course). The last time I visited the closest J. Crew they were busy swapping out inventory, so I hope the store is back to its fully-stocked glory!

Thanks for your review of the Sperry's. I have always loved the Topsiders and have that same color in my cart right now! Haven't worn them since the 80's, but they are classically cool IMO. The price seems high though, aren't they generally around $60? I will have to check around a little.

As far as the rest of the spring stuff --- not too much catching my eye.
