Thanks for the Email J.Crew!

J.Crew just sent this email today. Now you know I love the Crew, so when the New Arrivals actually arrived online and in-stores, I immediately posted about it (refer to the "JCrew's Website is Updated" post, the "J.Crew's Fall Collection In Stores This Week!" post, as just some examples). So to get this email today... well seems a little "late" in my opinion.

As a J.Crew fan (okay- fanatic) and a true aficionada of the label, I would like to know about New Arrivals with advance notice (at the very least, on the day it happens). ;)

What do you think of this email? Do you think it is a little late? Did you even get the email?

  2. i know everyone loves the bella jacket so i thought i should let you know that there are a few on ebay. the seller's name is siopsynsam2005. shipping is outrageous but since i missed out last year, i went for it!

  4. Alexis: I agree with you. When I saw that email this morning, my thought was that J Crew was running a little late. Maybe it's for those who don't check the site everyday, like we do. :)

  5. melissa: let us know how you like it, I was a little hesitant to purchase since I didn't know the seller.

  6. yeah, that was an annoying late email. I thought maybe they had added even more new items, but nope, it's still the same new items from last week!

  7. I'm more p*ssed that J. Crew feels the need to cut summer short by announcing that "Fall is Here". And, yes, I got the email...

  8. I can't believe they are even advertising or sending out emails at all, considering my last two orders are lost/mixed up and still haven't arrived, even though I have been charged. My daughter wanted boots from the VS catalog last winter, and when the order was placed online, there was a box that came up warning of their recent move to a new facility and delays in shipping. The shoes arrived well ahead of their "estimated" shipment date.
Why hasn't J Crew done this? Why would a customer service rep tell me on Wednesday that she would send out my order overnight, and it would arrive by Friday (past), and they didn't even come TODAY (monday) yet. There is no tracking info even given on the order status page of my account.
This is horrendous treatment of it's customers. I'm sticking to stores!

  9. Hi All-

I did not get this e-mail. But then again they have ignored my requests to make sure I get e-mails (lovely, I know).

However, the best and most secure way to shop at JCrew now is to work with a personal shopper. I ordered a dress Wednesday night and it arrived today! I think I will be probably be returning it because its a little on the big side. But I will think about it.

And also the e-mail is a little late considering it came out of friday and I am a card member and I supposed to get "early notice."

  10. Hi -- new fan of this blog!

I recv'd the email as well. Question -- anyone have the Baird McNulty Linen jacket and/or skirt? I ordered the jacket, but haven't recv'd it yet. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and get the skirt. I'm concerned that it may wrinkle, that it may not match the jacket well or that I just don't have a need for it in my life. Would I really wear the skirt and jacket together? Thanks for anyone's thoughts. Don't have anyone irl to kvetch with on this one. ;-)

  11. Hi gigi, welcome

Anything that is linen will wrinkle. It's part of the fabric. The skirt runs true to small and I felt that the jacket actually runs large. I had to swap my sizes around when I tried it on in the stores back in April. I didnt like how the jacket fit so I decided not to get it.

The suit matches well so I think you would be o.k. on that problem.

    good luck with your decision

  12. Hey gals...I can only wish I'd just receive emails. I can't tell you how many times I've entered my email address to their mailing list and I have yet to receive a single one. Same thing with the catalog--I've requested many times and haven't gotten a single one.

Has anyone gotten the stretch vintage cord skirt yet? I know it JUST came out, but am curious as to the fit. I adore the honey glaze color, but I have had issues with colors online looking different in person--any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Appgal: The skirt looks great and the color is true to what you see in the catalog. I tried it but found the zipper area sticks out a bit. Maybe it was just that piece.

  14. I received this at 8:02am and was also very disappointed and confused as to why it didn't go out last week...they are struggling so much even on simple things like sending out emails in a timely manner...it seems like the fiasco will never end...I haven't ordered anything since the 18th when my Kelly Jacket and Joelle Blouse showed up online again (they were short shipped, as you know) but I am still hopeful to have my Navy Kelly and Papaya Joelle show up soon...

blumre: does your personal shopper apply discounts and offer free shipping? Quincey is my personal shopper, but I haven't spoken to her/him in awhile...maybe I should, if they still honor all the discounts...let me know. :)

btw...are you setting up a Polyvore account?

    ReplyDelete
  15. gigi: If you get the darker colors, the wrinkles don't show that badly. I got the navy - jacket and skirt - and like it (esp at the price). I agree with blumre that the jacket runs big.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Appgal: I have heard that the tab front on the skirt doesn't lay flat. I have heard that people have gotten it or will be getting it and they don't care. I haven't tried it on yet though so I couldn't tell you from personal experience.

    ReplyDelete
  17. FFM: Yes my personal shopper even applied the in store %40 off to the order I placed last week. And she shipped my order for free. So the answers to your questions are "yes" and "yes"

    ReplyDelete
  18. No email for me, but considering they are not shipping to Canada does that surprise anyone.

I really like the clothes, but they are really frustrating me lately.

    ReplyDelete
  19. melissa: I bought a bella jacket from the same ebay seller this morning too. Let me know when you get yours. I'm not sure if the seller is shipping from the Philippines or Canada - that explains the outrageous shipping costs. I hope the seller is reliable - her feedback is not that hot but several buyers of the bella seemed satisfied with their purchases.

    ReplyDelete
  20. yeah - this email was a little annoying. But I've usually gotten them the monday following site updates. Maybe I've always been on the late list? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Blumre, do you think a personal shopper could get me what from Jcrew faster than the website? Do they ship from a store?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. jcrew guy: YES! Undoubtedly! go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. jcrew guy: No they ship from the warehouse unless you call one in a store. My stuff came from the warehouse.

    ReplyDelete
  24. do you have to go to a store to get a personal shopper, or can you do the whole thing online? i live pretty far from any stores.

    ReplyDelete
  25. melissa: nope you can call in. You can also do it online. The CS manager I spoke with said it would be a good way to order reliably. So she (the CS rep) put me in touch with one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. appgal,

I tried on the honey glaze stretch vintage cord pencil skirt in-store and placed an order for a petite size because the length was just a tad too long for me (I wear petites normally anyway).

The tab on my cord mini skirt from last fall no longer really lays flat; I have to press it with an iron. Doesn't bother me though.

-heather (log in is being weird)

  27. i've always gotten these "new arrivals" emails late...i got this one today and of course i've already checked out the new stuff the first day it was online last week ;)

    fyi:
i went to the store today (the one in the 'burbs) and they didn't have the things i really wanted to see like the lucille jacket (i found out that only "lux" stores carry items like the lucille jacket so for example downtown san francisco will have it eventually). they didn't even have the hammered-silk tank. BUT i took a look at the Marcella blouse and the blue Watercolor floral rosette tank (shown under the sweater cognac) and noticed that the material is thick - MUCH more substantial than previous blouses have been. so they must have realized that their previous blouses were so incredibly thin that they had to layered ;) even the perfect fit and ringspun (not slub) cotton t's are much thicker...just an fyi...:)

of course, i gave in and bought 2 t shirts (one slub and one ringspun) because i'm a sucker...:0

  28. oops. meant to say: shown under the sweater "in" cognac.

  29. Just a note to anyone shopping at the Paramus store. On Friday, I was so excited about the Fall collection that I dragged my husband to help say "yay" or "nay" while I played "dress-up". Anyhow, I ended up loving lots and some not so much, but I bought stuff from their abundant sale (40% of) rack! I even got the educator's discount-with my proof, of course.

Okay, my point is that today I went back and found a dress that was not there on Friday in my size, but was there today and I went to pay for it and when I presented my proof for the educator's discount, she told me that it ONLY applied to full price items. Now, I've had this problem with this particular store before with another manager -so I was glad to be able to tell her that she could just call the customer service to verify that I have the right to my discount. She rather have not called and just gave it to me anyway.

I encourage anyone who ever shops there and gets the educator discount, to be firm about it - on sale item or not. A while back - I posted here - about my problem not getting the discount and then having it refunded when customer service (on the phone) were not pleased to hear about the snub.

Sorry for the long email - just wanted to let everyone know. :-)

Oh, and this store has plenty of nice shirts and "bateau" dresses(On their site, it's still $88-but at the store it's $34)...sorry, I don't remember the name of the clothing.

  30. Math Teacher: You raised a good point- it might be for those who aren't aware of the new arrivals. :)

Blumre: Perhaps your experience with a personal shopper might be a post you are willing to write about? I think a lot of us here (including myself) are curious as to what it means to have a personal shopper at J.Crew. :)

JRL: Congrats on getting your discount! I agree with you that we should encourage each other to get the discount when a store associate may not know that it can be used. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. blumre and AppGal what are your email addresses? I will ensure you get on the file.

  32. Hi Gigi! Welcome aboard- We love to meet new J.Crew Aficionadas! :)

Anonymous at 6:51PM: Out of curiosity, do you work for J.Crew?

    ReplyDelete
  33. For those who aren't getting the J.Crew e-mails, I had the same problem for bulk J.Crew e-mail (both card and promotions), and I'm pretty sure it was on my end with comcast (another company not known for customer service). When I switched to yahoo I started getting more e-mails.

Still, I don't get all the coupons that are mentioned here. They seem to distribute them oddly.

    ReplyDelete
  34. P.S. Math Teacher and others, I've been contacted about teaching a part time con law course at a local private college . . . I think I may do it just so I can get an educator's discount!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for the feedback...I just called and ordered the cord skirt in honey glaze. CS rep was extremely nice and helpful.

By the way, I was able to get her to apply my teacher discount, but she said I could only use it over the phone or in stores--not online. Who was it who said they were able to get it online, and how do I get this to happen? Seems like there are a lot of savvy teachers out there who know how to dress well ;)

I was sad because she couldn't apply teacher discount AND free shipping code--oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  36. oh--and anonymous @ 6:51, here's my email--THANKS!

  37. hexicon: congrats! I think teaching at a college level would be nice. Maybe they're a little more motivated than high school students? One would hope, right?

appgal: I've gotten free shipping with my teacher discount, so I'm not sure why the cs wouldn't give it to you. Last week in my b&m, the sa did tell me that sometimes they can stack discounts and sometimes they can't. She had to ask a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  38. blumre: Who's your personal shopper? Is he/she based in Madison Ave or at Columbus Circle? I would like to have one since I'm still not that confident purchasing from their website yet.

I don't know if anyone else gets the same message as I have when I talk to a CS rep over the phone. When I call in regarding the sizes/measurements for Fall merchandise, my CS rep kept telling me "these items are limited quantity, so would you like to place an order for this/these items?" How limited can an item be, if they are non-J Crew Collection? I figured since the items just came out, maybe they want to make a sale that badly? Okay, well how about offering a discount coupon for the new Fall merchandise?

    ReplyDelete
  39. webbysuzy: I agree with the coupon idea. While free shipping is nice, how about 20% plus free shipping? That would totally make me spend money. :) Especially if I could also use my teacher's discount. It beats waiting for it to go on sale and then hope that they still have my size.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I hate to be so technical, but the term isn't personal shopper it's Client Specialist.

At J Crew there are sales associates and client specialist. The SAs are hourly and Client Specialist are hourly plus commission.

They can make your shopping experience much smoother. I have one guy that I've been a client of for 8 years. He's gotten me items shipped overnight, for free. Found items that seem to be sold out, put collections together and mailed them to me (sight unseen and I just returned what I didn't like), they can call CS and price match w/in-store discounts at the red phone.

Before J. Crew went public the Client Specialist got FABULOUS incentive gifts - think Rolex and Cartier watches, trips, money, etc....

    ReplyDelete
  41. So jacquie, how does one find a client specialist?

    ReplyDelete
  42. WebbySuzy - the CS rep is asking if you'd like to order because once the Collection stock has gone, it won't be re-stocked. In stores sizes are very limited. What you see on the floor (Collection wise), is pretty much all the store received. So yes, quantities are somewhat limited especially since not every store is tiered high enough to receive Collection items.

    Hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  43. WebbySuzy - just go in and ask to be introduced to an Client Specialist. I found mine after observing him on few visits. I liked his style and attention he gave to other customers.

A few weeks ago some of us gave "shout outs" to our favorite stores and SA/Client Specialist, someone from your local store may be listed there.

Make sure the CS gets your information foar their book (contact info, sizes, etc), so they can keep you abreast of new arrivals or be on the look-out for something you're searching for.

    ReplyDelete
  44. appgal: i have used the student discount in conjunction with free shipping online. you order online as usual using whatever coupon code you have. then send an email from your school email address (teachers or students) with the order number and ask for the discount. they will then credit the discount back to your cc as a "merchandise return" credit. it takes a few days, but it is worth it. i buy a lot more online now that i know how to get the discount online.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I digress. The term personal shopper is new, along with the upgrades and such I guess.

But they will always be Client Specialist to me :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks for the info, kellyanne311...I will definitely keep that in mind in the future. I sent an email this morning asking about this very issue. Maybe they will be awesome and issue me a credit for the shipping costs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Suzy Q, I agree with you. I ordered something on July 2nd and after calling in twice and having it ordered two more times, I finally got the package today. It's absolutely ridiculous. I sent them an email to let them know how frustrated I was that I didn't have the dress for my event and I have yet to hear from them. I couldn't believe it since I had no issues with them in the past. Madness!
