J.Crew is offering 30% off the final sale with the code EXTRA30. This offer expires 7/20/08. ("Thanks!" to Silver Lining for also pointing this out in the "Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?" post.) As many of you have mentioned, the sale section seems to have been re-stocked a bit- so that is good news. It would be even better if they removed the $null items (like the Fiona Jacket).
Moreover... As many of you have pointed out, J.Crew stores also have the "additional 30% off" sale items.
I must say that I am disappointed that in order to enjoy the 30% off, you have to enter the code. Now, you have to decide if you want to use a code like "free shipping" or "an additional percent off" from your order. Remember when the additional percent off was "a given" (e.g. no need to use a code)? I mean, I don't mind entering the EXTRA30 code, if the site allowed for multiple codes to be used per order (e.g. stackable codes).
I can't remember right now which site that was that allowed stackable codes...I think it was Victoria's Secret. But I do know there's more than a handful of online retailers that allow that. I don't see why J.Crew can't do that, and on top of that, their darn site still doesn't work. =(
ReplyDeleteHi Eddie & Stretch's Momma! I totally agree about many other retailers allowing for stackable codes. VS definitely does, so does American Eagle. I think its so much better to be allowed to do that.
ReplyDeleteI am just not a fan of making something that was automatic (like the additional percent off sale) now an option. :(
You're right, they would sell more if they'd allow more than one code. I did take a chance and place an order online, although it was a small one - a tee for my niece. I will be disappointed if it doesn't come, but it was worth the chance since it matches a skort bought earlier at the store when they had 40% off crewcuts. i would have ordered for myself, but I plan to go to a b&m in the morning and I'd rather try on before I buy.
ReplyDeletei want to search the sale, but the site is being sooo slow again! how frustrating :-/
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I totally agree! My hope is that the "code" instead of a uniform discount across all of a final sale is just a TEMPORARY function of them dealing with the new website design. So in the future hopefully there won't have to be a code, once they figure this stuff out.
ReplyDeleteAt least that's my hope. But I'm definitely not buying anything today!
I am laying off the website for a while. I was tempted to nab a pleat-front tissue top (I LOVE them), but seeing as I am STILL on hold re: the Sea Glass Piper Tank I never received, I used my better judgment. The sale items were bouncing around as available and unavailable, and as other users pointed out, the functionality is different between IE and Firefox. I'd rather wait for all the fall goodies, and give J.Crew some time to work on their fiasco of a website.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: I cancelled the Sea Glass Piper Tank. I'd rather take the refund and use it on delicious fall sweaters :) In addition, J.Crew is sending me the gift card and giving me free shipping on my next order. I better make it count!
I just think J.Crew's being very unfair to their (loyal) customers who CAN'T get to a B&M store so easily like the others on this site and HAVE to resort to the site to purchase. I think they might be placing too much importance on their upcoming fall line...just my 2¢. =)
ReplyDeleteIf I wear a 2 in the Frances blouse, would a petite 6 fit me? With the 30% off, it's hard not the buy things I could never get at the store.
ReplyDeleteThe 30% code is not working! I keep getting a message that says: The promo code you entered is either not recognized, is not valid for this order or has expired. Please call 800.205.7814 for assistance.
ReplyDeleteI am currently on a 21 minute hold with CS. GRRRR.......
I just hung up since the one thing I REALLY wanted (Cashmere graphic argyle short-sleeve sweater for $49.99 + 30% off) is now unavailable. When I go to the item page, it is now a lovely $null. I am SO IRRITATED.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone. I just placed few items in my shopping bag and they disappeared within a minute. The 20 min hold does not work. I was able to get one item out of 4 I placed in the cart. The code worked for me...
ReplyDeleteMath teacher: I think they would sell more if they allowed for stackable codes too!
ReplyDeleteKater: I hope that your hope is right! :) That this code/additional percent off business is just temporary until they can figure out how to make it automatic. I hate to think that this would be a permament feature. :(
Michelle: I hear you about laying off the website. I mean I check it every day, but I am too worried about its reliability.
Eddie & Stretch's Momma: I think you are right, that they are hurting their online customers by some of their recent moves. I hope its not a deliberate action- because online sales are very profitable for any retailer- it would be foolish for J.Crew to alienate us.
Anonymous at 10:52 AM: I think the Frances Blouse would be a bit loose on you. But it would not look awful either. And you could always get it tailored.
I also have a strong feeling that in a few weeks the sale section is going to be great (because they will have finally inventoried the returns from stores).
The website is like freaking out. I was browsing the sale section to see if I could take advantage of the additional 30% on something that is only now available, but as I click on things, they disappear. What I mean is the page will display a size and color and after the page refreshes, $null shows up instead and the item is no longer available. It's so confusing. I don't think I'm going to purchase anything especially since I have to receive an order from July 1st that the website says is complete and the promo code isn't even working.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Aly. I was playing around with the items, and the same thing was happening to me. Better to be safe than charged for things you don't receive. Again.
ReplyDelete@10:52 Re Frances blouse: I'm right between a petite and a regular (and right between a 4 and a 6), and J.Crew advises petites that if they've been ordering regular sizes they should order a size up. So, you can probably assume that the petite 6 will fit similar to a 4 regular.
ReplyDeleteI have the Frances in a 6 regular and did not find it to be a particularly generous fit (unlike, say, the Joelle, which fit like a sack). It's not tight on me, but it's a fairly slim fit (it has a zipper). Also, at least on me, it is very low cut--I can't wear my regular bra with it.
So, since I am home sick with a lot of time on my hands, I went through every sale item this morning but didn't feel the need to buy anything.
But, last night on eBay I did get a BNWT sleeveless Jane sheath dress from last year for $29.99. I was bidding on an Azul super 120s sleeveless dress but ultimately let it go--since I would have HAD to buy the matching Abby jacket it wouldn't have been such a bargain. And when is that Abby going to go on sale?
I didn't have any trouble with the code, although it's kind of strange how it shows up. I wish it was like Ann Taylor, where you actually see the new price of the item.
ReplyDeleteI also hope that this is just a temporary fix until the system is up and running.
By the way, has anyone called in to get the educator's discount figured in? My total was so little that it's not worth the call and wait, but I am curious if it's being allowed.
Does anyone know if the b&m are still offering 25% or if they're matching online or even higher since they're shipping stuff out next week (so we believe)?
I finally got a CS rep on the phone to apply the discount to my Firefox order from this morning. Not only is JCrew wasting my time, they're burning through my cell minutes this month with all the calls I've had to make about their mistakes! They have a "call me now" feature on the way, which is a great idea, but it only calls you and puts you on hold! Why not call when a rep is actually available??? Grrr...
ReplyDeleteI just tried to buy some shoes/dresses for my daughter from crewcuts but even though they were on sale, the sale prices were not honored in the shopping bag.
ReplyDeleteI called CS...and was on hold for 22 mins and then transferred twice.
Also, they now are showing taxes for NY residents, which is new. We should not be charged for tax for clothing a certain amount and certainly not for children's clothing.
I am more than frusrated.
You used to be able to input the coupon code before your credit card information, so you knew if the code worked before committing to purchase anything. I noticed that you have to do it now along with credit card information. Does anyone know if there's an intermediary step where you get to see the amount before hitting the final "send"? Given the way things have been, I can't say I trust the website.
ReplyDeleteI just placed an order online. I had success with the 30% but I am like the rest of you - frustrated with the new site and all the items with $null!!
ReplyDeleteI have emailed J Crew before when their service was outstanding, but this is a time when they should be flooded with negative comments about their website. If everyone is frustrated it doesn't matter what type of coupons they use, people aren't going to go through all the trouble to order!
Online shopping is the only way I can get my favorites from J Crew because there isn't a store near me. My husband will probably be delighted with their aggrevating website, cause I will probably spend less money!
Good luck to all!
Yes, you can check to see if the code worked before you complete the purchase. I can't remember exactly, but I think there's a box to click after inputing the code. And, once you put the code in, you can go back to shopping and the code stays. It only shows up in the total price, though. I'd rather it showed up in each item's price.
ReplyDeletemary: yes there is another step for you to confirm the order before it is "submitted".
ReplyDeleteI know I felt the same..that the discount should be applied before we put in our cc details that way we know what is being honored.
Alexis, I totally agree with you about having to put in the code for 30% off vs automatic 30%off. I just went to the website and put two dresses in my shopping cart, after applying the EXTRA30 code but still having to pay for the shipping, I realize that the extra 30% just even out the shipping fee. I stared at the total amount for 10 mins, and then decided that I hate this kind of fake discount and I don't necessarily need the two dresses, so I just closed the browser. Thanks Jcrew for helping me to save money.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I got an email from BR yesterday with a coupon for extra 25% off for online and in-store any amount of purchase,(but it's only a one time code, so I can't share here, sorry) I'll probably use the money I save at Jcrew to shop at BR.
Crystal: I think there are lots of customers who did exactly what you did- realize its just canceling out the cost of shipping (so there really isn't that much of a benefit). I hope J.Crew doesn't make the code the permanent way to receive the additional percent off.
ReplyDeleteBTW--who received the coupon code in her e-mail? I'm a cardholder ("Cashmere" cardholder, FWIW) and I didn't receive the e-mail.
ReplyDeleteMath Teacher -
ReplyDeleteI was in the Houston b&m store yesterday and they are offering the additional 25% off. Houston has a terrible selection though so I didn't end up with anything.
Like Michele and others I am also laying of the website. I dont trust them to get my orders to me.
ReplyDeleteHexicon... I didn't get an e-mail about the sale. But I know sometimes they stagger the e-mails so sometimes i get an e-mail first and sometimes my friends get it first.
I would love the 30% off sale but I don't need any more summer clothes.
I can't wait to hit the store today! I am braving NYC streets even today in this gross heat! And by braving, I mean my friend and I are splitting a cab downtown. We can't arrive at Jcrew sweating!!!!
I just can't imagine ordering from J. Crew after the ridiculous times I've had with my orders, even with 30% off.
ReplyDeleteJuly 3 order (cashmere shrunken shawl cardigan):
- "shipped" on July 7 and credit card charged
- told on July 15 that it was "on the truck"
- told on July 18 that, actually, they have no idea where it is, and it may never actually get to me
- now sold out
July 7 order (cotton belle taffeta skirt)
- "shipped" on July 8 and credit card charged
- told on July 15 tha it was "on the truck"
- found on July 18 that credit card charged again for the same skirt, and looked at my account to find that the initial order had been cancelled, and then reordered on July 17
WTF J. Crew??!? I'm thinking it'll be a cold day in hell before I even think about ordering again. To CS's credit, they seemed as distraught as I was, and they are trying to cancel the skirt (which I no longer want) and find the sweater somewhere.
They also told me (sorry if this is old news) that gift cards cannot be shipped out currently. They do not know when they will actually be shippable.
OK no gift cards shipped out... I have about $200 bucks coming to me in gifts cards! 60 of that is a refund. But seriously!!!!! That pisses me off.
ReplyDeleteNo gift cards...does that include rewards from the JCrew card? I am moving in a few weeks and REALLY don't want to miss my reward. :(
ReplyDeleteThis fiasco has really taken a toll on everyone involved; J.Crew is being very unfair, and it doesn't help that they seem to be hiding behind their "corporate" reasoning that these issues are "normal". =(
ReplyDeleteBut if I may digress from things J.Crew, I thought I'd share that Boden has their fall line up, and it looks super cute! =)
I did post yesterday that the gift cards probably will be coming but only after delayed orders are shipped, returns processed and their website is updated. CS told me in passing.....That has got to be the last thing on their minds is getting those gift cards out....it is probably just to placate us for a bit. We will probably be calling them 1 or 2 months from now asking where they are???? (Ha ha...weak attempt at humor) I have a gift card now to use but I can only shop online and just don't trust the site......who knows...I could use it, the item gets cancelled, and I am out.....
ReplyDeleteI am going to the Boden site now.....I LOVE Boden...their quality is so high....like JCrew used to be.....I was looking at a pair of my JCrew cropped pants with front patch pockets today from last summer and noticed one pocket is 1 inch longer and the metal buttons on the front are unevenly placed....how annoying...and kinda tacky...even though there is nothing I can do about the patch pockets I am going to try and get the buttons even....
ReplyDeleteI am so frustrated. I want to buy the Casa Rossa jacket and everything possible has gone wrong with their website. I couldn't even add it to my cart until I changed to Explorer from Firefox. After slogging through the checkout process and dealing with a million errors it is now telling me my credit card already exists and to try another. Ugggg!
ReplyDeleteI am on hold with J Crew and hoping someone will pick up soon who can just sell me the jacket!
What would have really made us irrate customers happy is to have 30% off AND FREE SHIPPING:) Who wants to pay for shipping that takes 10+ business days???? Not me!
ReplyDeleteBoden does have some cute velvet jackets--2 styles-- and nice prints on their fun skirts...
ReplyDeleteLiana,
ReplyDeleteBest of luck...I would order via phone but it says 30% off online only...but they should honor it on the phone if you can't even get their website to work......ask for free shipping while you are at it!
B&M stores have the 30% off until at least Sunday! Yay! Now I can steer CLEAR of the web!
ReplyDeleteLayla: Your situation sounds awful! I can't believe all that happened with your orders. Especially being charged to find out its sold out on one item, and being charged and having the item cancelled. Outrageous!
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for the "heads up" about the gift cards. I didn't realize that they don't even know when they will get around shipping them.
Blumre: I would also be upset (and I mean really upset) if part of the gift card I am waiting for is actually my refund- they should send yours out immediately.
It's funny because some of the J.Crew models are also being used by Boden...so it's almost being "home". LOL.
ReplyDeleteSally: That is great that the stores are carrying the 30% off too.
ReplyDeleteThe Westport, CT store had 25% off yesterday, but 30% off today is better! ;)
I too am wondering about the JCrew rewards cards...I really want mine...they are to be out by the last week of July....Please post when/if someone gets theirs...
ReplyDeleteAlexis: yes the SA told me they just got the 30% off e-mail this morning too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I got my refund gift card via Fed Ex this morning. I may have just lucked out and had someone on the phone who was actually INFORMED about how to deal with the new system. :)
The question now is will my gift card actually have a balance on it. One CSR told me she was going to void it out and credit back my cc. The second (more informed CSR) told me she would manually credit back my cc and still issue the gift card as a special "courtesy" for all the confusion.
ReplyDeleteBtw, about the Rewards Cards, my FAVORITE manager at my b&m told me that they get a list of their frequent customers and how much their reward card will be along with the code to the card. So last Fall I was able to use my card before I ever got it in the mail. You all out there may give that a try. I think they get the list last week of July or early August.
After you check out, the system says you get 20 minutes to revise your order, but when I hit "UPDATE ORDER", nothing happens. You can't make any changes after all
ReplyDeleteHi All-
ReplyDeleteSide note: Lodis makes a cool card case that reminds me a jcrews larger magic one. It hold more cards and has a zipper instead of the "flip". Its cool. I think its called the "Leather Credit Card Case with Zipper Pocket."
Yes, Alexis I am super pissed since its a refund... I am calling now. Also cause the e-mail I got indicated the wrong price. $53.50 and not 69.50. NOT OK
hexicon or anyone that can answer what do you do for a cashmere card and what does it look like? Just out of curiosity...
ReplyDeleteI've had my limit raised and spend thousands there a year, but I don't have one. I'm curious if it's worth it.
FYI I just got the EXTRA30 email
ReplyDeleteOh my, the website is still terrible. Terrible. Terrible. And I can't get through on the phone. What gives
ReplyDeleteThe Jcrew's phone just hung up on me TWICE!!! WHAT GIVES?!?!?
ReplyDeleteWow, Boden has some really gorgeous looking fall stuff. Cute leather bags too - that aren't almost $400 like another retailer who shall remain nameless (*wink*)!
ReplyDeletex: I have a "cashmere" card, and it's just silver instead of green. we were discussing this a few days ago on a different thread and none of us that have it could figure out what the added benefits were.
ReplyDeleteI'm so over all this website stuff, and think it's really irresponsible of the company to kick off a bigger sale and NOT have the capability to handle it. I'm really glad I live near B&M stores - and feel so bad for aficionadas that rely exclusively on the web site...:(
I finally got my order sorted out. The CS agent did apply the 30% discount without having to ask since I told her I could not get the website to process my order. Based on the excellent advice posted here, I asked for free shipping and I got it "this one time as a courtesy". It still shouldn't take over an hour to order a jacket though! h
ReplyDeleteI am SO FREAKING ANNOYED! The website does not work, period. It hasn't worked for me since the silly 'upgrade' started. I have now been on hold for 46 minutes (they disconnected me the first time after 22 minutes of waiting) and I might as well just throw in the towel. I mean, seriously, how can a huge corporation like JCrew be unable find/outsource to someone who knows and understands the concept of functional website upgrades? I'd like to find out how they went about this upgrade and do a post about their incompetence. Sorry for the vent. Whew.
ReplyDeleteX, I didn't know what the "cashmere card" was either until I read this blog. I just thought they sent me an updated card. It is silver rather than dark green--and that seems to be the only difference. Unlike the BR Luxe card, there are no discernable perks.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I just got my 30% off e-mail. I'm out sick and not sleeping well so I got up about 6 (Left Coast time) to check the site. By the time I received my e-mail, everything that I was remotely interested in was sold out in my size. Doesn't do a lot of good when it comes too late.
I have never seen this Boden before ... I like it! Lots of cute things :)
ReplyDeleteBoden usually offers 10% off and free shipping and free returns.....check retailmenot.com and/or wait a bit and the code will come out...if you are ordering from them for the first time just ask for this discount and you will likely get it.....
ReplyDeletemichelle, I discoverd Boden a few years ago. They are a UK based company and now that I live here their warehouse is 20 minutes from me...I do like their items...sizing is UK sizing but their website explains it all and give actual garment measurement and garment reviews as well...I am a US 8-10 and I wear a Boden UK 12.
ReplyDeleteBoden has a 10% + free shipping and free returns coupon: YB266998
ReplyDeleteI think it's valid til July 20
Sill haven't purchased anything online. Why bother? It took me one month to receive an order I placed prior to the upgrade and by reading all the posts, customers have their orders lost, cancelled, delayed, etc. So I'm not confident purchasing on their website, not until they work out all the kinks.
ReplyDeleteI did return the Double Stranded Jewel Flower Necklace. The cashier said that he will refund me either by debit or gift card. I told them I used my credit card when I ordered it. He said in the system it shows debit. I don't think you can use debit on J Crew. I just took the gift card.
I guess the safest way to shop is at the b&m, for the time being.
anon@1:11 and 1:13: Thanks :) I am really liking what I see, and I am a sucker for free shipping and free returns (esp the free returns part). And ... FALL CLOTHES! Yaaaay!
ReplyDeleteliana, Glad you got the free shipping like I suggested! I figured it is worth a shot after all you have been through....I want two items online, don't live near a store but I don't want them that much.....I will pass:)
ReplyDeletewebbysuzy: can I ask why you returned the double-strand necklace? What didn't you like about it? It's on my wishlist at the moment, and would love to get your input!
ReplyDeleteJ Crew, just give us the 30% okay? I haven't been at the b&m store, but it should be 30% off as well. Be consistent and fair with your customers. This will keep your customers happy.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I have two skirts from their fall/winter line 2007 and two of their wrap sweaters. They are beautiful and worthe every penny. Also, I bought two of their fun skirts this summer and two of their bags. I haven't been disappointed in anything. Just keep in mind that the stuff is shipping from the UK and does take a bit but you WILL GET IT! (unlike some other company I know...wink, wink)
ReplyDeleteLove the new Boden stuff!
ReplyDeleteI am so fed up with J. Crew - I just wrote a very pointed e-mail asking what they planned to do for their customers. We'll see what they say (if I even get a response!).
Boden's site is cute, easy to navigate - and they seem to be keeping it a little more real with their customers. See the Delivery, Orders and Returns FAQ's:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bodenusa.com/yourquest/faq_dor.asp
FYI you can use a debit card at jcrew. I do it lots.
ReplyDeleteAlso someone above said the 30% off is also in stores... that could be a rumor though... anyone able to confirm that?
kater: It's a lovely necklace, don't get me wrong, but I'm thinking I can get only two seasons out of it. I know I can get four seasons out of the Giraffe Necklace.
ReplyDeleteI'm also budgeting what I should purchase from J crew. I know it's tempting to buy many many lovely things at J Crew, but I'm trying to be more selective.
I'm keeping my eye open and see what's upcoming for Fall.
thanks webbysuzy! I'm having a serious inner debate about whether to get the guava one, or the pearl one, and then if I should get one in the next week or two, or try to wait it out til either (or both!) go on sale...
ReplyDeletedecisions decisions...:)
bblumre: I just called the Prince St. store and yes, it's 30% off at b&m.
ReplyDeleteHow long does it usually take to get a response to emails? I sent one weeks ago with no response. I just sent one this morning to talk about the incorrect charges that I need handled. (Waiting on the phone is pointless!!)
ReplyDeletekater: Someone here has it pearls.. who is it? vivian? She said she loves it because the freshwater pearls are uniform and lusterous.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking the necklace I returned is going to be marked down soon..
Alexis: They are going to hold my refund gift card at the store for me this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteFor everyone else. The manager I spoke with said they sent out hundreds yesterday and they are sending out more today. We should be getting gift cards soon.
If your gift card is a refund and you live near a store. You might be able to try what I did. I will wait patiently for my promotional gift cards. Spend 'em wisely when you get them.
I want to thank the manager who helped me... she was fantastic, kind and considerate.
Good luck everyone!
P.S. Thanks Webbysuzy!
ReplyDeleteI am going today with a friend who has a first date tonight so we shall find something cute and summery for her.
Webbysuzy, I hope you are staying in the AC today... BOY IS IT HOT!
I am so glad I am not even temped to buy online. Do you know how much money this is saving me?
webbysuzy: I think you're right, vivian has the pearls...:) I'm leaning towards those, but if the guava one goes on sale, I don't think I'll be able to restrain myself from trying to get both!
ReplyDeleteyes, I'm nuts and have a problem with a j crew jewelry addiction...:)
webbysuzy, many people have said they liked the pearls. I haven't seen them yet but I might buy the opera length one this year or perhaps the one with the black ribbon... Maybe it will be on my channukah list.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of them.
LOL blumre: I've save alot of money by not using J Crew.com . I can only buy at the b&m when I have time to get to the City, and if they have what I want in my size.
ReplyDeleteFirst date! Oh make her pretty and make sure the guy picks up the tab! Guy should pay at least the first three dates.
I'll be going out in 30 mins. I have to pick up my Gucci shoes at the repair shop.
I tried to place an order and my items disappeared from my shopping bag within 10 minutes. I called CS, waited forever, was put on hold, then finally disconnected. I sent an email explaining my frustrations. Still waiting to hear from them. I can't believe what a total mess J Crew has become.
ReplyDeletekater & blumre: I love jewelry, more than clothing.
ReplyDeleteI have to give credit to CS - the supervisor I spoke with seemed genuinely distressed with all the recent happenings. It sounds like my cashmere cardigan in bright ocean will (likely) never make it to me, though she is still trying to track it down. She refunded me the money for it, and ordered a new one in a different color at the same price with complimentary expedited shipping and the promise I could return it if I don't like it. If the original one ever makes it my way she said to keep it with her apologies. I did feel like she took my concerns seriously, so that did help a surprising amount. I am sorry they have to deal with all this, and feel that there should be some accountability within the company for whoever is responsible for this whole mess.
ReplyDeleteMy email stated that the 30% off was online and in stores, so all stores should have the extra 30%. (Wonder why they're sending out different emails?)
ReplyDeletewebbysuzy: Have fun at the repair shop. My cobbler is my best friend these days and he always gives me discounts... walking all over the city kills my shoes.
ReplyDeleteBecause we are both jewelry fans!!! I thought you would want to know that I think the vancleef ring will be copied for me and slightly altered by a jeweler who is a friend of the family... So THAT IS VERY EXCITING.
But how can you resist a good B&M trip. I have been looking forwrd to this all week
blumre: The Guccis are new. I just need a rubber sole on the bottom. I bought them when Neiman Marcus had an offer online back in May: spend $500.00 and they will issue you a $200 gift certificate on your future purchase. That was to good of an offer to pass up.
ReplyDeleteCustom made engagement rings, smart of you to have it copied. It's less expensive that way. Plus you'll get the best price on diamond solitaire. Are you having the ring crafted in platinum or gold?
Webbysuzy: What a fantastic deal! Wow. Yea rubber soles in NYC are very important!
ReplyDeleteWe are going platinum (I dont wear a lot of gold) and I haven't decided completely on which one I want (both of the ones I like are van cleef though). My grandmother is going to take me with her when she goes next and I will consult with the jeweler and then the BF can go and from there on in its his show. Yes independent jewelers do give a better price and he also knows my family very well so we will probably get a discount too.
I received the guava flower necklace and I love it! I also wasn't sure if I can wear it later in the year but I tried it on with cream and brown colored sweaters and it looked beautiful. I will definitely wear it in the fall. It just gives a bit of color to the outfit.
ReplyDeleteI still don't have the giraffe necklace though :(
So now the question is whether the educator discount will be considered a promotion. You can't use the 30% off with another promotion according to the sale page.
ReplyDeleteI do know that according to my B&M store, the official policy has changed and the educator discount can be used on top of the extra % off clearance.
sky - still no giraffe necklace? don't give up hope! This recent restocking of the sale section makes me think it still might happen...
ReplyDeleteand you're making me want the guava double-strand badly! has anyone ever seen this in stores? I've been to all in the dc area, which typically have a pretty good jewelry selection, and have never actually laid eyes on it. It doesn't say catalog/j.crew.com only though...
webbysuzy: I also think I'm getting to the point where I love jewelry more than clothes...:)
Hello! Need your help. I'm trying to order the starlet jacket but can't figure out my size. I'm a 0 in the tulip jacket but the solid san telmo in 0 is a bit tight for me. Should I size down or up for the starlet jacket? Tks!
ReplyDelete-- Elaine
This site is ridiculously slow, and I can't get anything on sale to come up at all. Its just not functional.
ReplyDeleteAlso, online was my way of shopping, I can't be making calls at my office that say "hi, yes hello. i'd like to order the candace jacket in sweet orange, yes great, ok heres my credit card number.." its just not possible for me to make calls like that, especially if the hold time is 27 minutes!
On the brighter side--jcrew miracles do happen. After more than three weeks, the last item of my 6/26 order arrived--I almost couldn't believe my eyes!

Hi Ladies - okay I have to vent this afternoon. I have read all the posts and I feel for you all. I am so jealous that you have B&M to get your through, since I am in Canada I have to rely on the website which just sucks right now. This is my latest ordeal. I had to verify some purchases last week with visa as my card was stolen which totally sucked but one was at J.Crew. I assumed it to be my waitlisted item from May(a cotton cashmere crew neck for my husband). I called CS yesterday and after 43 minutes on hold/phone I was told that she was unable to confirm the order from May since they have changed the computer system. Further more she could verify the status of an order my girlfriend and I placed two weeks ago because they are unable to track Canadian shipments at this time - call back tuesday. My girlfriend bought a dress which is now sold out for a wedding she is going to in August. I can't stand that and I had such a bad week at work that a little j.crew used to perk me up but I am so frustrated with them that I don't know what to do. I am going to check out this boden site - I have never heard of it and it sounds good.
ReplyDeleteelaine - I was true to my typical j.crew size when I tried on the starlet jacket, but I do have to warn you. As cute as it is, the beautiful jeweled buttons literally shred the button holes when you button/unbutton (another poster also warned about this). It's like the designer didn't make the button holes big enough, or re-enforce them strongly enough.
ReplyDeleteso as much as I liked it when I tried it on, I passed knowing all the repair work I would have to have my tailor do over time.
kater: Hey, thanks for the warning. I was also interested in the starlet jacket and was in the middle of call with CS after being on hold for 35 minutes. I hastily told the rep I changed my mind!
ReplyDeleteWeren't the new arrivals supposed to be online today???? They aren't :(
ReplyDeleteI still have hope but I am thinking of buying it on e-bay for big money and then keep waiting. If the necklace from the catalog comes I would resell the e-bay one for the same price I bought it. I never sold anything on e-bay and I hope it is as easy as buying. I am getting desperate...
ReplyDeleteI know it is a matter of personal taste but I really liked the guava flower necklace. Especially with heather brown cashmere v-neck or ivory elizabeth halter and moss jackie cardigan. I was not sure when I opened the silver box but after trying it on I am keeping it!
I am a huge jewlery lover too. Have the giraffe, the frog, the bubble and the other "babbly" type from last holiday collection. any one have the crazy sea foam treasures one now? It's down to 60 I think in the B&M plus that 30%...is it really ugly or could it work? I have mixed emotions.....I am eyeing the double strand too but cannot bring myself to full price :)
ReplyDeleteBoden is VERY customer oriented....I bought 3 colors of the same skirt this summer....one had a problem with the zipper. I called and they sent out a new one without even recharging my card. I sent the defective one back at their expense...they sent me a yellow prepaid defective label. Now that is what I call excellent service...be warned...very popular items do tend to sell out fast...but they do restock and the wait time they list online for items is very accurate. I like Boden A LOT! I guess they have big warehouse type sales here in the UK and the ladies just go crazy...lots of pushing and shoving! (not for me) I also noticed that the items really hold their value online/resale...at least at ebay.co.uk......
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so glad I read this blog....I was thinking about the starlet jacket and I an definitely NOT going to order it now...imagine fighting the button holes and the fraying button holes! Not worth messing with and it's still pretty expensive even with 30% and having to pay shipping...
ReplyDeleteanon@2:42: I am eyeing the trench coat in prune and the british tweed skirt in dark grey. I am reluctant, but the whole free shipping/free return + 10% off thing is tempting me ...
ReplyDeleteCaw: I haven't tried on the sea foam treasures necklace for the same reason you mentioned. I wonder if anyone has it.
ReplyDeleteI bought the guava flower necklace during the 20% off sale and didn't want to wait for it to go on sale becuse the CS rep told me that they had only few left at that time.
I feel the necklace could go either way, you'd have to pair it with the right things, plain white, grays. I haven't seen it on anyone, kinda cute on the mannequin. Definitely not for everyone! Hmm...you got me thinking about the double strand necklace. I can't wait to see Fall jewels! I bought the mosiac cuff on sale, of course for $70. It definitely a frivolous purchase, but I love it and get so many compliments.
ReplyDeleteToday I visited the Garden State J.Crew, and I was happy to discover that they had 30% off their sale selection. They had a bunch of plain tees and tanks, some camis in different prints, shorts, and come button front shirts. I also scored the Liv patent leather flats in green for $27.99! They were marked $40 on the silver pair, so I asked the saleswoman and she thought they were $99 plus the percent off. But she scanned the box for me and sure enough, they were only $40! From $150 -> $27, I'd say that's pretty good. They had a couple of other pairs, but she said I was lucky because "it's a mess back there."
ReplyDeleteThey also had out fall clothing - I saw some skirts and dresses (that tweed skirt, I think), cords, leather bags, a navy peacoat, and a pretty velvet blazer that resembled the Bella but was not. It seemed more structured and didn't have any buttons. Instead, it had a flimsy loop and a hook that seemed out of place. It was $168 or $178, I can't remember. They also had out new flats, boots, and nice cable sweaters that I do not believe were cashmere because of the $78 pricetag.
To all the Boden people, do you know how the sizes fit? Most of the times jcrew's 0 is a little big on me and i am worried that boden size 8 (the smallest they have) will be too big.
ReplyDeletemichelle, I own 2 of their jackets and love them! I think the prune if very pretty. I also have 4 skirts. If I were you, and money isn't too tight, I would go for it! You have nothing to loose and can always return free of charge. At the very least you can try for size and "get to know the product." I think the quality of their coats and skirts is excellent. If I am wrong you can "yell" at me all you want:) I don't think you will however (wink)
ReplyDeletebodoi88, It you are a true zero the 8 may or may not work for you...I have read mixed reviews on it--some people just wear the item depending on what is it a little loose or have it tailored...Just check the actual garment measurements for the item. It has helped me a lot on their site....also, with free returns you have nothing to loose...
ReplyDeleteI am a true US 8 and I were a Boden 12.
WEAR not my horribly misspelled word....
ReplyDeletebodoni88: First, Boden's quality is great! And as someone has mentioned here, their CS is very customer-friendly.
ReplyDeleteAs for the sizes, I would say that they're pretty true to the US sizes, as they explain on their site. I would probably go with the body measurements they give on their site as well.
If you do end purchasing something that you feel doesn't fit you, returns are an ease! ;)
Hi Everyone! I also received the email that says 30% off online, but it didn't come until 11:28 this morning, and I wasn't even home at the time...I had already placed an order this morning prior to the update, as I happened to see the Joelle Blouse back online in my size, and also the Kelly Jacket in Bright Flame in Medium (hoping it fits...I originally ordered the Small), so I called and they honored the prices with the discounts that were on my previous order...anyways, we'll see what happens...the order status looks good so far. I placed an order last Sunday for 2 pair of the Metallic Capri Sandals that weren't available in my store, and they arrived today. Hopefully I will get these orders I placed today next week. I am on hold for CS now to see if I can get this 30% extra they are offering...I've been waiting an eternity again, but if they say yes, then it will be worth it. I am supposed to be able to return my items if they don't work out, since I had purchased them not Final Sale pre-upgrade. It's a bummer about the gift cards not shipping out...I really wanted mine before the next big markdowns happen.
ReplyDeleteblumre: How in the world did you manage to get $140 worth of promotional gift cards? Was that all just from the one jacket you didn't receive? That's amazing! You lucked out...you still got your jacket PLUS all the gift cards for the fiasco with your order. Your CS rep was TERRIFIC! :)
Just tried ordering and the system keeps giving me an error!!! I am so frustrated with them.
ReplyDeleteI just need to vent for a minute. J.Crew resellers on eBay are really frustrating :P I know they are just doing their thing, but they have so many things I want, and they are charging 3x what I know they paid for things. I feel like I am so close, yet so far, from exactly what I am looking for! Grrrr ....
ReplyDeleteI finally got through to CS, but the system is down again, and they are having to re-boot...that's why nothing is working. :)
ReplyDeleteFFM: I got my piper tank in Kelly Green. Have you gotten yours yet?We discussed the colors one or two weeks. Any outfit suggestions for the green?
ReplyDeleteFFM: Hope you get your 30%. They should give it to you. I wanted to call and ask the teacher's discount but after that experience with the snotty rep a few days ago, I just hate the idea of groveling for $50. The horrendous hold time is another downer.
ReplyDeleteFFM: I have no idea how I managed. The first two were offered to me on seperate occasions. Then I found out the manager was sending me a $100 one because of the problem with a featherweight merino. I never asked I just called to check on an order and the CS told me that "oh I c u have a $100 gift Card." The 60.50 one was because the double charged me. So its actually about 210 in gift cars.
ReplyDeleteI mean they REALLY messed up my order. And some how the sent me two sweaters and charged me shipping both times and they charged me full price both times! So this was really bad.
I don't know why they gave them to me... really I would have just been happy to get the items. But I finally have everything (though the jacket never arrived... I ran around manhattan for that one).
OK all, I'm off to mecca aka Jcrew. Have a good afternoon.
I can confirm that in NJ (at both Short Hills and Willowbrook) sale merchandise was 30% off. Short Hills was pretty messy but still had a considerable amount of merchandise for women (less for guys). At Willowbrook it was just the opposite. Willowbrook was the second store I've visited in NJ to honor the educators discount on top of the 30% off. I just needed to show my NJEA card.
ReplyDeleteI was just at the J.Crew in Copley. Most of the stuff was leftover from last week, though I noticed they had a new table of perfect-fit tees (v-neck at 9.99 and crewneck at 14.99). Final sale is an extra 30% off, and they're allowing the educator's discount on top of that. I got a shirt and a tank for $10!
ReplyDeletei'm posting this here since it's the most current string going. i thought this article was interesting...
ReplyDeleteJ Crew will update more than fabric and hemlines this fall.
i know some of us 30 somethings have been been talking about wanting to see some "older" models in jcrew...according to this article there will be some coming soon...yay for "older" models and for jcrew :) But i'd still like to see more models in their 30's and 40's! :)
Just got back from the mall. Stopped in at J.Crew, that was a total waste of time - the sale section is pretty full, but also entirely picked over, so it's just unappealing rejects that are left. THe rest of the store seemed empty. A salesperson told me they had gotten their fall shipment in, and it would be out by early next week. I grabbed her by her lapel and demanded to see it immediately... no, I didn't, but I was tempted :-)
ReplyDeleteI did have great success at Nordstrom's anniversary sale - got two skirts, a super-chic plaid jacket, a suit, a dress, and a pair of purple suede pumps. Oh la la. It's all fall stuff, so I won't be wearing it for a while, but it's awesome.
By the way, a couple things I wanted weren't in stock in the store, so the saleslady just entered my info into the computer, and the items will be shipped to me FREE OF CHARGE.
I've said it before but it's worth repeating: Nordstrom sets the standard for customer service. J.Crew should pay heed :-)
CCBmum
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to Bloomacious. It's nice to see that J.Crew is going back to acknowledging that, a) people age, and that b) they still like to look classy, clean and modern! I'm no longer a skinny 20-something, and I've felt that, particularly over the last two years or so, JC has been marketing its merchandise to much younger customers. It's been a little problematic, because I could always count on JC for affordable, timeless, classic pieces. There's no way I'm going to squeeze my middle-aged arse into a poofy mini-skirt any time soon! If I remember correctly, JC used to use older models in their catalogues, but recently seemed to have abandoned that for much younger models. And you're right, it would be nice to see a representation of all age groups, both in print and on-line.
Boden is great. You can check the garment measurements for each item right on the item page-I've never had to send anything back because of this.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty casual, so they're not going to be able to compete with J Crew on everything, but they are a great alternative, and yes, the popular stuff goes really fast. I am a US 6-Boden 10...some stuff runs roomy, which makes the free return shipping nice. You can order 2 sizes and try them both with no risk. I have heard people say that true size zeros can't wear their stuff-they just don't market to petites, but you could always get alterations.
On a J Crew note, I just received the White Denim Trousers, and they are really flattering! Love them. The only caveat is that the front pockets look like eyes and the zipper covering looks like a nose-my pants look like a face-check it out on the site-hilarious. I'm keeping them though-great fit.
Also want to give a round of applause to Lacoste's new 5 button Polos. They are nice and long in the torso, have longer (but still short) sleeves, and are shaped and stretchy-super flattering! They are having a sale, and I bought three of them.
mary: lol...and yes, jcrew used to use more middle aged models...lets hope that they trend back towards using models of all ages! :)
ReplyDeleteCCBmum
ReplyDeleteSome models who, like us, are in their 30's and 40's would, as you say, definitely be refreshing (the model Carmen is as gorgeous as it gets, but she's old enough to be my mom--I remember her in ads when I was a little kid!) It's also nice to have a balance between trendier ripped/painted jeans and flowery mini-skirts and classic, fashionable clothes that women in their 30's and 40's are comfortable wearing. I don't want to look like either an old fart or a fat fairy!
I just sent an email to j crew that pretty much says "i'm done." I've shopped there for many years and have spent lots of money, but their website is so aggravating that I no longer "enjoy" it. I consider myself a patient person; someone who can take a lot of irritation... after all I have three children and I am a high school teacher, but that website makes my face red. I'm done. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'd like J.Crew to do is lower the hemlines of some of their skirts. I loved those plaid skirts from last year's Highlands catalogue, and probably would have bought 2 or 3 of them if they'd been 18 inches instead of 16. Ditto for the felted-wool patch pocket skirts from last fall - loved the style and colors, but they fell two inches too short of what I like :-(
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, la belle Helene. I feel the same way. Some of the skirt styles are nice, but the recent hemlines, at least for me, have not been either flattering or appropriate.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, those plaid highland skirts last season were adorable, but I wouldn't have been caught dead in something that short!
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that you ordered more items, FFM...you are brave...not me....I don't have a store nearby but if I did I wouldn't go near the website...I have plenty of new JCrew to wear and others with tags still on....
ReplyDeleteSkirt lenghts: If European fashion is any indication hemlines are up and full skirts are in...that is all I see everywhere at all the trendy stores...and even some not so trendy ones:)
I personally love full skirts that end right above my knee... and I am in my 30's-- just barely:)
Science teacher, I feel the same as you....(I'm a reading teacher by the way.) Just about done with JCrew...my husband said you can only wear so many clothes as it is...plus, I think he wants me to expand my clothing options...
I'm a sucker...I just placed an order. But I had a friend order with me so we could split shipping - that made me feel better. I ordered a few favorite tanks and the pleated tissue tank in Sour Lemon. We'll see how this goes....
ReplyDeleteYes, hemlines are up and full skirts are in...sigh...I've already seen them! I don't mind a full skirt, but it has to fit just right and hit at a certain point, or if you are over 35 or over a size 6 it can look ridiculous. Very short poofy skirts are just not for the majority of the population!
ReplyDeleteI really just don't understand why it is so hard for them to take off the items that are sold out. This Snull stuff has got to stop. Just remove them! Not to mention the prices are often wrong. Don't they have people clicking through to check to see if prices are right? Things are listed as being on sale, but when you click through, they're not. What an embarrassment for J. Crew.
ReplyDeleteIf this keeps going, shopping at J.Crew is not going to be fun anymore. Oh, wait, it's not that fun right now. :)
HOPPING MAD! Just got an email that JCrew is cancelling the gift card they were supposed to send me for a defective item I received. This was promised to me 2 weeks ago. I have had it. NO MORE JCREW!
ReplyDeleteI have a code MUSTSHOP for free shipping. $150 or more.
ReplyDelete* Offer valid on any purchase where merchandise total is $150 or more before shipping, handling and taxes are added. All sales final, no exchanges, no returns. Free shipping offer expires at 11:59 pm ET on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. This offer is valid on Internet orders shipped via Regular Shipping (4 to 7 business days) to US and Canadian addresses only. This offer cannot be combined with any other promotion.
Okay, so I finally got part of my order from last weekend - I ordere a pair of the cafe capris, the metallic print cardigan, and the Elizabeth halter in pink. I had a tracking number by the 14th, and originally there wasn't one for the halter. However, I checked back the next day, and it had the same tracking number as the other two pieces. Well, no surprise when the package arrived today sans the halter. I called J.Crew and after waiting on the line for almost 20 minutes, I spoke with a very nice CS rep who offered to overnight me another one after I told her I am leaving for Italy on Wednesday. After reading others' experiences on here, I asked her to check if it had already shipped to avoid getting charged for two. Turns out it has and she managed to look up another tracking number for me and it's apparently en route, so I have my fingers crossed that it will get here in time for my trip. It also looks like J.Crew isn't sending packages in boxes with the items neatly wrapped in tissue anymore - my stuff came in a brown paper envelope, sans tissue. My order form also has that both my items were final sale even though I paid full price for the capris. I did use the extra 20% off coupon from last week, but that shouldn't have affected the full price capris. Luckily I don't have to return either piece! Just thought I'd share my experience - it looks like they're still working out the kinks with the new system, but at least they're being very accomodating to make customers happy. Also, I asked the CS rep when the new fall collection will be online, and she said early August (I can't wait!).
ReplyDeletemath teacher: There's a Fiona in pale almond in the Cherry Creek Store in Denver. Not sure what's the size - looks like small/medium. Check dressing room - it's a mess.
ReplyDeleteRescinding a promised gift card? Very, very bad business. Shockingly stupid, actually. Anonymous, I would call CS to follow that up and voice your complaint. As my grandmother used to say, penny-wise and pound-foolish.
ReplyDeleteanon, that's funny - i don't like full skirt, I like pencil skirts, and I don't like any skirts to fall lower than right at my knees.
ReplyDeleteBut on the flip side, they can't end too far above my knees, either :-)
mary, I liked those highland skirts so much I tried them on time and again, but each time had too conclude my first reaction was right - just too short. Grrr!!
mary,
ReplyDeleteI am on hold with CS and this is a long distance overseas call too....I have the email showing that they promised me the gift card! I am so mad; if I don't get my JCrew gift card watch for a lot of my unused JCrew stuff on ebay...I am so mad I could spit...
la belle Helene and mary: i see what you're saying about the skirts...while i don't wear skirts, the ones that you're talking about are a bit short for me (ok, i'm 39) i would feel uncomfortable in something that short...
ReplyDeleteit's wierd, there's something about skirts...as we get older, those shorter hemlines just don't look right...even if you look great in one and it fits you well, you have to have the right entire look to pull it off...maybe with opaque tights underneath?? or with boots (at least for the winter skirts). i dunno??? can you imagine that 76 year old model Carmen in a mini? i don't think so :)
La Belle Helene, same experience, but I, unfortunately, laughed out loud at myself when I put it on: on me, it was a short plaid sausage casing, big tartan butt! SCARY! I had a huge fixation with plaid last year, and did purchase the Frankie plaid pop-on skirt, which I liked and which had a much more flattering fit and is a good length for me, but when someone at work called me "Britney Spears", I nearly died, and had to retire it for a while. Can you imagine? I may bring it back again this year if I can muster up the courage!
ReplyDeleteccbmum, you're so right. I don't mean this egotistically, but I my legs are in great shape, and I still just don't like wearing skirts that are only 16 inches long, even with tights. My preferred length is 20-to-21, but I can feel comfortable in 18, too, depending on the cut of the skirt.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing with 16-inch skirts is sitting in them - it's impossible to do without exposing a whole lotta thigh... :-)
It's just aggravating when a skirt is so damn cute only to find out it's so damn short, too.
Mary, thanks for the laugh - that was a heck of a description :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, I am still on hold and this is getting expensive so off to write an angry email to JCrew about a promised gift card that they have now cancelled....SO MAD!
ReplyDeleteCCBmum
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't look right. I'm slightly older than you, and I'm totally uncomfortable in something that falls above the knee, and have been since I was around 35. Mini-skirts on mature women look like we're trying too hard, there's just no way around it. It's like overdoing your makeup or wearing ripped jeans or maintaining the hairstyle you wore as a teenager. You have to evolve as you age, I think. I don't know if I'd want to see Carmen in a mini, either, even with her glorious figure and face. I've had a lot more success with simple, clean looks. I know when I'm doing well, because, as a high school teacher, the kids will be brutally honest, and I've had a lot of compliments over the last few years on my appearance, and requests to borrow (or steal!) my clothes from my teenage girls in class. And frankly, you get a lot more mileage out of your clothes when you keep it simple.
After 20 minutes waiting for a CS rep, I finally got in contact with one who told me the skirt I ordered (along with a sweater for my mom's b-day, which I recived last week) never shipped but my CC was charged. She tired to find one to over night it to me, but no luck. She credited back my CC and for my troubles I got a $25 gift card, which I was thankful for but I wish I got that pencil skirt (with yellow polka dots), perhaps I get get her the one thats not on sale for $128 with black polka dots.
ReplyDeleteanonymous @6:10...good luck getting your gift card......I really hope you do as they cancelled mine and I hope they do respond to the email...
ReplyDeleteHow are you all getting these gift cards?? I have had loads of trouble and received none - in fact, I'm lucky to get a refund on the items I didn't receive. What's the trick?
ReplyDeleteThere is no trick. Mine was for a defective item that they sent me...long story but they offered my refund in the form of a gift card and now I have nothing!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 6:10--wish you the best with that gift card. You have every right to be livid.
ReplyDeletela belle Helene and mary: lol...so true...and you're not being egotistical at all...it's great to be happy with the way you look...something that finally happened to me in my 30's :) i can pull of skinny jeans and get compliments...but a mini would just look wrong...like you said mary, trying too hard! :)
ReplyDeleteLa Belle Helene, not egotistical at all, like ccbmum says, it's part of the self awareness that comes with being a real adult! I'm well aware that I don't look the way I did when I was in my 20's, but I'm a whole lot happier and at ease with myself than I ever was then, and I think a hell of a lot sexier because of that confidence.
ReplyDeleteAnd certainly I don't expect JCrew to become like a fosamax commercial or something. It's just nice to see a representation of all its customers in its pr, not just the two extremes. Frankly, I think it's awesome for a company to have such a wide appeal. Now, if they could just get the website fiasco straightened out...
yea really, fix the website...even though i can go to the store, they don't have everything and i miss online shopping!!!
ReplyDeleteMe too...I'm embarrassed to say I was sweating and palpitating this morning when news came that the sale section had been restocked...I need help!
ReplyDeleteme too! I'm glad I wasn't the online one having a full physical reaction. thank goodness there wasn't a polka dot san telmo or I would have gone beserk trying to get it!
ReplyDeleteI wish they would release a coupon. Like another private sale or something. There is so much I want, but I will not let myself order it full price, or get it online for that matter...
FROM BAD TO WORSE: JCrew has taken down its credit card holders telephone priority line 866 599 5222 When you call it says it is a non working number. I just called it earlier and was on hold for 30 minutes and hung up to try later and now it doesn't even work...a JCrew voice answers the phone and says it is a non working number!!!!! That is awful!
ReplyDeleteWow, anonymous. That begs the question: why hold a credit card if you don't get any priority anything? I'll keep using my AMEX...at least there's some protection for the buyer.
ReplyDeleteThere is not supposed to be any waiting on the priority line...I see people have gotten through to CS in as little as 20 min. When I the priority line was working...earlier I was on hold for 30 min. with no end in sight...It stated 12 mintues at first and I thought that wasn't bad...but it wasn't accurate at all and now it doesn't work. Thanks for your sympathy, Mary. I hope your JCrew experience is better than mine...
ReplyDeleteThanks to the person who mentioned the fiona in denver. She looked everywhere and didn't see it. I hope she looked because I REALLY wanted it :o(
ReplyDeleteIf someone goes there and finds it, I will gladly pay them.
I emailed this morning asking them to apply my educator discount, fix the sales tax, and give me free shipping as promised after my messed up order from a few weeks ago....Still no reply. Am I crazy? Do they ever reply?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 6:56 PM: I find the comment about J.Crew taking down its credit card telephone line disturbing. That line should be working (or transferring you to a working number) as long as there is a J.Crew credit card being offered. I am very disappointed with J.Crew.
ReplyDeleteNo giraffe necklace from J.Crew :( I called for the 4th time asking about the necklace I ordered and finally someone called the distribution center and confirmed it is not comming. I am so very disappointed. I know I was late but to be teased like that? I suggested for J.Crew to buy the short-shipped items on e-bay and that way fullfill the orders but it didn't work ;-)
ReplyDeletetired memphian: I haven't gotten an answer to an email I sent on wednesday, so I definitely don't think they are following their 24 hours turn around time!
ReplyDeletenot to excuse j.crew, because I am with everyone on how poorly this whole thing has been executed, but I think it's just taking way longer than usual. As is everything else.
JCrew's website is not calculating tax correctly...I was charged for tax in MN when there is none on clothes! Buyer Beware...I am going to report them to the FTC. Enough is enough!
ReplyDeleteI mailed them a week ago and still no response. I am really fed up. I resent the email after 4 days and still no response. I am not sorry anymore...JCrew has some very serious issues.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I called the line 2more times just to be sure and NOTHING! Very disturbing is right!
ReplyDeleteThey have lost me. I am DONE. Time to move on to greener pastures. Nordstrom it is! Even Old Navy! I feel as if a close family member has betrayed my trust.... Sorry, JCrew! You took my devotion for granted. Now, you have lost me.
ReplyDeleteSlastena: What you did describe of the new fall line has made me very excited to see it. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of the catalog. :)
ReplyDeleteI will also make the Polyvore site into a post for tomorrow! Great suggestion. :)
JenG: I totally understand your frustration. It's a shame that J.Crew, a company built on helping their customers, has had so many issues with this new website upgrade- which is ultimately hurting their reputation with their customers.
anon @ 5:47: Called your J Crew and they said they didn't have any. Thanks, though. Maybe someone bought it. :(
ReplyDeleteNot much in Charleston, SC, except tee's and odds and ends. They did have quite a few Candace jackets in royal blue. Most were smalls, one x-small and one large (that I saw).
I'm in the minority. I placed an order 2 weeks ago without a glitch. It arrived promptly last week. Now, the price of that item was slashed for another 65%. Sigh.. win some, lose some! Today, I didn't bother with the web site after reading all the horror stories. Just checked the new prices and hit a B&M store nearby. Certain marked prices didn't match those online. Not sure whose mistake it was, I had a nice but slightly reluctant sales lady confirm the price of a jacket. She appeared to be unaware of the recent kerfuffle and tried to convince me, "It's only $99 and you get 30% off." I insisted and she came back with "$29.99." And yes, plus 30% off. That's a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteI *just* received the EXTRA30 email. Thanks J.Crew, you really know how to tell a girl she's wanted.
ReplyDeletecaw@2:32 - I saw the sea foam treasures in the store (both necklace and bracelet). I was glad I did because I was turned off by the HUGE enamel balls. The starfish is also huge, and there was just way too much going on. I've been thinking about the Sequin necklace (June 2008 InStyle p.291) but worry that it too is huge.
ReplyDeleteIt seems quite a bit of J.Crew's jewelry is oversized, especially bracelets. I ordered a purple bauble bracelet (can't remember exact name) last fall and it was HUGE on my wrist - heavy and totally cumbersome. So that went striaght back.
ReplyDeleteWell, I just spend an almost an hour total speaking with cs about a credit. She told me that there was a case filed and that they are so backlogged that it is taking much longer than normal to get through everything. So, I am to wait another week in hopes that the credit comes through. She was very nice, although she didn't offer me anything for my trouble. :) So for those of you with outstanding credits, hopefully they'll go through in the next little while.
ReplyDeleteffm: Did they give you the extra 30% off? Just curious. I'm keeping my eye out for the kelly jacket in flame as well. (along with the fiona jacket in pale almond) I'm sure many of us are hoping that lots of items get restocked!
ReplyDeleteHi everybody! Since people have been sharing coupons for other sites, I'm going to mention that Olive Juice Kids is having a 20% off sale (plus free shipping if your order is over $100). The code is carriedaway, and it expires midnight Eastern time on July 21st. (This is turning out to be a great online shopping weekend!)
ReplyDeleteamethyst and other jewelry lovers, agree about sea foam, i think it's a miss. it looks okay in some catalogue pics but those balls are way too large :) I do have the giraffe and love that but feel like i don't wear it enough, i guess i "save" it?.....they came out with a jcrew factory jewelry line, it's really bad........
ReplyDeleteHi everyone:)
ReplyDeleteFinally able to put my toddler in bed and now I'm going to read some posts that I missed throughout the day.
I am with everyone who put stuff in their cart only to have it disappear seconds later. I chose a few items I have been eyeing with the discount, but I also stared at the screen debating about the shipping cost and finally just closed the browser as well.
ReplyDeletemichelle: I would just let things go. eBay resellers charge 3x more because I bet they have been following trends (and this blog), because they know it's the most wanted item. If an item isn't desired, they wouldn't be charging so much.
ReplyDeleteNothing to get stressed over. I just don't buy from them and always remember: J Crew always have something new every month.
sky: Sorry to hear that J Crew doesn't have your Giraffe Necklace. I think we'll be seeing more animal/glass beaded necklaces in the future. I'm sure of it.
ReplyDeletecaw: I have the Giraffe Necklace, and it's still in the box, haven't worn it. Not too sure when or where I am going to wear it.
ReplyDeletewebbysuzy: Thanks for talking sense. I know you are right. Time to look forward to fall :)
ReplyDeleteI was at Bloomingdale's today to return two items I bought in June when they had a great sale. I walked to a cashier and no questions asked, and did the transaction in less than 5 minutes. I felt really valued as a customer, and felt so good purchasing items there. Before leaving the store, I noticed they had a nice sale with an extra 40% off. Found a lovely shirt by Theory.
ReplyDeleteMy point is these past few weeks purchasing at jcrew's final sale made feel like I wasn't trusted and valued as a customer. Everytime we pay, they say, "This is final sale, which means no return or exchange." I really wish jcrew would change the policy.
Is anyone having trouble with seeing one sale price, but when you select the item, a higher price comes up? I looked at several pairs of pants on the sale pages which were advertised $19.99 or $29.99 but when I went to choose them, it came up $39.99? So frustrating!
ReplyDeleteNormally, I'd totally take advantage of a 30% off sale, but probably won't get anything this time because of the screwed up website.
Just a thought on the starlight jacket...I am either going to reinforce the buttons holes and have a tailor make them a bit larger OR change out the buttons all together...It is the color and style of the jacket I like...not so much the buttons....
ReplyDeleteHi Vivian: I never actually ordered a Piper Tank, as I am waiting for them to get marked down further...congrats on the Kelly Green...it's one of the colors I would like to get. I think it would be really pretty paired with Navy Pants or Navy Capris, White Pants, or Dark Denim Jeans. A Cardigan would look really pretty over it moving into Fall...I would also wear it under the Navy Tulip Jacket you have with white pants. Did you ever get your Fiona? That would probably work, as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI went to the 45th and madison store. my gift card was there, YAY. But they had nothing new there... they said new stuff is coming in monday... and I cant go on monday :( Maybe wednesday :/
ReplyDeleteFMM: Thanks! I worryabout these bright tops that look good only with white/light color pants. They make my butt look huge. I'm pear shaped, so I tend to avoid light-color bottoms.
ReplyDeletemath teacher: I did end up getting the additional 30% plus my teacher discount and free shipping...now I am just hoping and praying that they the order actually ships out! ;) The prices I got were fabulous, so I hope it all goes well...I'll keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteVivian: I understand what you mean about the bright colored pants and pear shapes...the Kelly Green will look really pretty with Navy Pants or Dark Denim, and the darker color on the bottom will help to camouflage the area you like the least. :) You could also try it with Gray...it is considered a "neutral" color now, and the combination could be very pleasing if the saturation of the colors match. Maybe a deep gray like the Dark Fog of the Cotton Taffeta Belle skirt, only in a pant, and especially for Fall and Winter. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Kater & webbysuzy: I had to order a THIRD pearl necklace because the second one had its inner strand much shorter that when you wear it, it hangs with a gap between the two strands. I know this is a natural product but there's poor quality control, so it's a matter of luck if you order online unless you are willing to order a few for comparison. The third necklace has more imperfections although the strands' lengths are OK. My store doesn't carry this necklace. Best to see it in person and choose one.
ReplyDeleteFFM: Great, and thanks much for your suggestions! Grey is a color I'm comfortable with. I'm eyeing the belle skirt in that dark fog, and there are pants/chinos in that color in the new lineup too.
ReplyDeleteanon@5:39a: I have seen this Starlet jacket and tried it on as well.
ReplyDeleteThe buttons give the jacket a eye catching factor, so I wouldn't change it. Initially, I had trouble with the buttons, but there is a trick to unbuttoning/buttoning: hold the buttonhole and slide the opening from the left side (it's easier to show you than to explain it, I know).
I love the pink color, and I tried on the size 0, which fits perfectly and true to size, if you're wearing a light top or blouse. If you're layering, buy one size up.
vivian: Which pearl necklace do you own? Is it the Opera Length pearl necklace?
ReplyDeleteWebbysuzy: It's the double strand flower pearl necklace. I ordered and returned the opera-length pearls. J.Crew doesn't have grading info on any of its pearls, so IMHO their pearls are only good for costume jewelery. The opera length pearls is OK, but for the size of the pearls, shape and lustre, not worth the $450 price tag.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in the starlet jacket too! Wish you could post on youtube how to "slide" the buttons!
Webbysuzy: Are the armholes on the Starlet jacket reasonable (unlike the Corinne)? I'm not sure if I should go with a 0 or a 2.
ReplyDeleteFFM: I'm trying to place an order. CS is refusing to apply my 15% teacher's discount on top of the 30% off. I have free shipping from an email exchange with CS about two shortshipped items, but I'm being asked all kinds of questions. I offered to forward the email but the grudging tone of the CS rep is so annoying, like dishing out charity. I'm really PO-ed!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletevivian: I'd ask for another rep! I visited my b&m last night, and the sa asked me if I was a teacher before she even rang the first item. So, no problem getting my 15% discount. They really need to get their act together and make sure everyone knows what the policy is (including us).
ReplyDelete"That doesn't do anything for me" - in refusing my offer to forward that free shipping email to her.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe this? I canceled the order. And I certainly will think more than twice ordering from JCrew again. First, they're not honoring the teachers' discount, and second, not even honoring free shipping that was given to me as an apology for shortshipped items.
And that rep's tone of voice and attitude. I asked to speak to a supervisor but she refused. I feel like I'm shopping at Salvation Army!
vivian: how long is the wait time now? I would definitely call back and ask again to speak to a supervisor...there is NO reason you shouldn't be allowed to do that, and you deserve the extra 15%, too! Did you get the rude reps name? When you speak to the supervisor you should mention her atitude towards you...that is not acceptable, at all. The free shipping is given because they ALREADY screwed up and it should be honored...just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI would call another rep and redo the order if the hold-time weren't 35 minutes. I can't be put on hold for another 35 minutes. I have an active toddler here who needs my attention!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooooo angry!
