Oh J.Crew Website, what you do to me!

I have to say I am actually surprise to find the website not working this morning. I saw the "be back soon..." page and thought, "oh no! not again." I refreshed it and it is now loading very slowly. I really thought things were getting better on the website.

Let's hope that the website just needs a week to work out the kinks. {fingers crossed again!} Also, my "hats off" to J.Crew customer reps who have been wonderful throughout all this "upgrading". :)

P.S. J.Crew, could you please remove the Refined canvas Fiona jacket (item 90977) from the sale section? It's a retail tease! I keep clicking on its item page (in hopes that it is available in stock,) only to see it is not. (You would think I would learn to not bother checking on it so much, considering each time it has been unavailable. I would make an awful lab rat.)

What do you think about the website? Do you think you will be ordering online today or just calling your orders in? How long do you think it will take for the website to run smoothly (or 99% kink free)?

  1. Good Morning Alexis. Who knows when the kinks will be worked out. My question is when are they going to mark down more items & get new inventory! Stimulate my visual senses please, or at least ship me my five orders.

I am bored with JCrew's site, I want my five orders and if I didn't have this blog to read I would get a lot more done around my house :)

JCrew owes you a paycheck as I would never had been looking at the JCrew site while it's in the midst of this fiasco it calls an upgrade. Hence, I would've missed out on some items & they would seen less business (I'm sure I'm not the only doing extra shopping thanks to this WONDERFUL blog.)

    Have a wonderful day!

  2. Speaking of rats, those of you in New York, have you heard of the 'Monster Rat'. We saw something about rats on History or Discovery channel last night. Ickh! (Let's make this comment applicable to the site: how would a rat look in one of the those JCrew cute puppy sweaters?)

  3. Hi Rach- Good morning to you too! I know how you feel about wanting to see some new merchandise. :) But in a way, I prefer not seeing new sale merchandise at low prices, because if I could not "check out" with them (because of website issues), I would be devastated.

By the way, I would be wanting my five orders from J.Crew too. :) Congrats on the purchases!

There is always something really nice about receiving those packages in the mail- its that same feeling I get when its my birthday or Christmas! :)

  4. Rach: I laughed out loud about your comment of the Monster rat wearing a cute J.Crew sweater. Well done!!! :) At least the Monster Rat would be a Preppy Monster Rat. Maybe he could go to the Hampton's on the weekends.

  5. Good Morning! I agree that there is really no way to know when the kinks will be worked out...I am also tired of looking at the same merchandise, and rarely check the site now...it's just too frustrating...I personally hope they wait to do the markdowns and returns/new merchandise until after I get my Gift Card. ;)

rach: I agree about wanting my order...I was SO looking forward to getting it this week, and I ALSO would get ALOT more done if it were not for this blog...it's really helpful with procrastination. ;) Do you have a tracking number for your orders yet?

  6. Alexis, I couldn't believe this post...down again. What is going on???? Really bad. Have you ever heard of a company the size of JCrew having computer upgrade issues like this? Wow! I really felt pretty patient up until today....

  7. hey ladies - I am new to the post but LOVE this site and read it ALL the time! I have been sharing your frustrations with the new site and am hesitant to place my order given all that I am reading. When did you place your orders? Was it before the website disaster? I am wondering if I order now how smooth things would go.

Also, does anyone own the Joelle Blouse??? I can't believe the price and have both colors in my shopping bag (regal purple and papaya). Thanks!!

  8. Alexis: with the site going up and down...it seems sort of risky to place orders over the phone, too. That's what happened with my blouse yesterday morning...the system was down when I called in, the rep took my order and payment info, and by the time it came up for her to put in my order, the blouse was sold out in my size...bummer...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Me again -- I just left the above post. I forgot, I also have the Solid Jessie Blouse in citrus lime (I LOVE that color) -- but they only had petite in my size - does anyone own and how does it fit? I am assuming the petite may just be shorter in length?

  10. I wanted to order a sale sweater as a gift and it shows $59.99 but when you click on it and add it-- it comes up as full price.... $98.00 AHHHHH!!!!! the frustration....will it never end:) It's just a sweater but I'd like to order it online quickly:)

  11. Well, I bit the bullet and ordered something last night. ONLY because I already have the item but it was marked down even more, so I'm buying it and returning the more expensive version. (BTW, it's the Joelle blouse -- which I thought was a steal at $31.99, but I'll take it for $19.99, too!)

Agree that it's surprising it's taking THIS long to get the site up and running well...

  12. Good Morning:) I'm on the computer and it seems like J Crew's website doesn't work on Netscape browser:( Does anyone else have the same problem?

I'm also looking around on eBay. I noticed that three sellers are listing multiple Solid Morgan Dresses and traditional shirtdresses over 19.99 All the dresses looks like the ones I have seen in Marshalls and commented earlier in another post. The dresses have that red line marked on their label. Coincidence?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oh, for the love of Mary and Joseph. Why don't they just take the website down until all the kinks are worked out. This is just so unprofessional.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yes, I think that is a good idea. Just close everything down, get it running smoothly and then restart fresh:) I mean...don't you think heads are rolling and people are working 24/7 to get this straightened out???? If I was new to JCrew I would start running now and never look back....

  15. My orders are also taking forever, but I'm trying be patient ;)

I'm waiting for the cotton taffeta Belle skirt in dark fog, but last night I was at Old Navy, and I found the cutest skirt that looks remarkably similar. They aren't online but in the store they're called "high waist skirts" and are on promotion from $29 to $20. I had it on in the dressing room and 2 other women went out and found the same skirt to try on. It's really cute. A bit shorter than the JCrew version, but the same color, similar fabric (has a nice sheen) and same shape with the wide waist band. They come in gray and black. Old navy is hit or miss for me---some things look really cheap, but there's always at least one or 2 things each season that are fabulous buys and super adorable. IMO this skirt is one!
I paired it with a sleeveless white tie neck blouse (that was on sale for under $10) and it was such a cute little outfit for school (teaching.) I was also at JCrew last night and did break down and get the metallic bow belt. With my educators discount it was $40 ish so I figured what the heck.

Also, I'm the one who had hemmed and hawed about the tie waist dress. Well, after finding the right undergarmet to go with it, I LOVE this dress and find myself wanting to put it on every day---it's so comfortable and effortlessly chic :)

So, I bought one more in the papaya color that was about $20 in the store (my store is still doing extra 25% off sale items.) What a deal!

Any opinions on which shoe they like better--I'm trying to decide (but still haven't received them yet!!) The patent peep toe mary jane in sour lemon, or the t strap cleo in sour lemon..... Any strong opinions either way? :)

  16. So I was so disappointed by the website running slowly that I went to the store (not like me! Ha!) to see what I could rummage through in their sale section. And to my surprise (seriously, I was aghast!) there was NO SALE SECTION - AT ALL!

Only sweaters and wool! WHAT? What happened? Busy J. Crew Bees were running around with these bins of clothes and pictures in hand to replicate on the "girls", as I overheard the manager call the mannequins. They were even scraping off the old front window paint to do them over as well. What is going on? Does no one enjoy the days of summer like I do. We haven't even gotten to the Fourth of July and they want me to start thinking about returning to work ( I'm a teacher!) MEAN, J. Crew, just plain ol' MEAN!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just talked to a JCrew CS rep on the priority line...she sounded exhausted...she said my order from 9 days ago shipped but she can't get an accurate tracking number...also, she mentioned there is no end in sight right now...they haven't been told anything. She also told me not to even bother with the website. It is inaccurate. The items I wanted are full price not sale price she said. She has worked at JCrew for 2 years.

  18. OK I need to be stopped. I just ordered the Sea Glass Piper Tank because I saw that it went on sale. I have been eyeing it and hoping it would go on sale soon, and when it did I just couldn't help myself. I really can't afford anymore though ... I need to give my credit card a rest! Bless the FREESHIP code though; it's bad for my bank account, but awesome for J.Crew!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good morning, everyone. I just discovered this site a few weeks ago when I was looking for coupon codes and discovered my favorite source (retailmenot) had to remove them all!!!

Alexis, thanks for a agreat blog! I would also make a terrible lab rat. I keep clicking on the antique fleece shawl cardigan over and over again HOPING that it will be available, although I know it is sold out!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Josie: I am curious as to which undergarment you wear with the tie-waist dress, if you don't mind sharing. I have the tie-waist dress is soft azalea and the jersey tank dress in papaya and was wondering what I should wear underneath. They are both super cute, but the back ... yeah ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. It is really hard to say when it will be ready. I bet Jcrew has no clue either. That must be one of the reasons why Jcrew did not mark when FREESHIP will be expired. But let us hope the best for Jcrew. And give our best to J.Crew customer reps. They are truely wonderful. Happy July 4th.

  22. Oh and btw, I just wanted to throw this out there because I remember a little while ago some posters were commenting on the Flowy Jersey Bateau Dress. It was on sale in my local b&m; I picked it up in dark slate for $44! As you can see if you click the link, it's still full price on the website. It's really cute for late summer/early fall.

  23. This is without a doubt the poorest implementation of a website update (retail or otherwise) that I have ever witnessed. This *has* to be significantly impacting sales -- the website was virtually unuseable last weekend and will likely be unuseable over the holiday weekend!

There are so many bugs and poor design and implementation choices that I don't even know where to begin. I feel truly sorry for the customer service reps and also for the company -- they totally got screwed by the design firm responsible for this unmitigated disaster.

I made a few recommendations in another post, but I doubt any suggestions will be integrated, because they must have their hands full just trying to fix countless bugs and make the website somewhat functional! I hate to sound so negative, but it's difficult to comprehend the enormity of this clusterphuque.

  24. Good morning everyone. I was on the website late last night (2:30am ET), and they pulled it down around then. I wrote in and let them know that 2 of the items I wanted to get had the $null problem and the 3rd item was full price after it had been on final sale just the other day. (I really don't understand the yoyo pricing.) Then I got the auto email ("thanks for your email, now use the free shipping code") again, and I had to write a third email letting them know that free shipping when you can't buy anything isn't a virtue. For a quality clothing company, the website is such a disservice.

  25. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE; I tried to place an order...it timed out and so I called to place it...Some how-- and I don't know how b/c I never got a confirmation online or order #-- and like I said the session timed out-- but now I have 2 orders for the same stuff!!!! I got 2 email confirmations just now minutes apart:( I am done. I now join you Alexis...savings, savings, savings account--need to build that up....

    ReplyDelete
  26. josie: Great find @ Old Navy...I think I will have to go check it out, as I have also been wanting to get the same J.Crew skirt, and in the Dark Fog, no less! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Alright J Crew, I am so upset that I went to Gap online. They are now having an additional 25% their marked down items, plus if your purchase is over $100, free shipping. J Crew, could you please give us the additional % off? Seems like every other retailer is doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I should add that the website was *really* fast, like the old days, last night when I was shopping, but as you know, fast didn't get me anywhere. I do hope the CSRs have a happy 4th though and hang tough. It's likely that a lot of people will be shopping this weekend, and if they can't get to the website, it will be a big deal unless they can get another way to entice us into the store to bring the revenue up. (hint hint)

    ReplyDelete
  29. webbysuzy:
I also just got some things at Gap with the 25% off coupon (bras, some sweaters for Dh) BTW, last night I called to try to cancel an order at Old Navy (since I ended up going into the store and finding what I needed that night) and the customer service rep said that Old Navy and Gap no longer charge the flat rate return fee. They now give you a FREE return label in with the order. Was I dreaming or is this really true??? Yikes, J Crew take note!

    Fabulousfloridamommy,
You're actually the one who made me take note of the Belle skirt... I also have the Lana top in the lt. gray color and you had mentioned that you were considering pairing it with that skirt. It sounded like a great idea and I ordered the skirt soon after..... still haven't received it, and unless it's really fabulous, the old navy skirt will be a more than fine substitute.

    Michelle:
I tried just a half slip, but couldn't find one that worked for me.... and ended up getting a pair of Assets (Target's version of Spanx) that I've got to say are truly comfortable! I love them, and they work really well with the dress. Wearing them without underwear eliminates any ugly panty line too. BTW I also snagged the Bateau dress in the dark gray color the day it went on sale and got an additional 25% off. Great dress (not special enough at full price) but it'll definitley be a nice Fall piece. I'm planning on wearing it with my yellow cleo t-straps (or the mary janes.... whichever I like better) and last season's enamelled bumblebee striped necklace. I love gray and yellow together :)

  30. Good morning! This is my first post to this blog, however I have been an avid reader for some time. I am glad to know I am not alone regarding my J.Crew obsession :)

I too am disappointed with the "upgrades". I called customer service regarding my order and they informed me the upgrades were designed to help with inventory control (as in you submit an order only to find out a day later it is mysteriously "unavailable"). Let's hope.

I am not impressed with the sale section of the website as it reminds me of every other - BR, Saks Fifth Ave. etc. I really enjoyed the ease and uniqueness of the prior set-up. Ugh...

Anyway...the website better be running error-free by Fall roll-out. Cannot wait for those jackets :)

    Tara

  32. I haven't had time to catch up yet on all the comments so forgive me for ignoring you all.

Alexis... as a special thank you J Crew should dig through their warehouse and send you a Fiona jacket for free. I am sure you have grossly increased their business from all of us!

  33. CS rep just told me they are shooting for Monday (hopefully) to start mailing out the backlog of packages....she didn't sound too sure though...she kept repeating..."hopefully Monday" I still have a top from last week still not sent out......

  34. Ok caught up-- you people write a lot. I have the day off today (yay school being closed) so I am in Greenwich and I took my boyfriend to work today... going to the beach later on. I am disgusting myself I feel like a house wife. Luckily I am in my J Crew tankini and my jc beach dress. That makes life good.

  35. jcrewmommy: You are right...I rarely get the chance to wear boots at all, but I did come across this article in another blog I frequent "you look fab" about the "tucking"...it was from just 5 months ago: Click Here ...hope you don't mind me chiming in. ;)

  36. Hi Alexis...I hear you regarding the fiona jacket (Even though I already have it since I purchased it when it was $99 with the 25% a while ago)...I have the same problem with the Refined Canvas San Telmo Jacket...Click and nothing! How frustrating. Don't they have people who are working on the website? Don't they test it? It's weird...
Love your website by the way! I've been following it everyday!

  37. Hi Jcrew mommy-- I only do jeans tucked in for severe rain and snow that amounts to more than 2 inches (so in Boston I did it a lot, I also do it up in Vermont during the winter).

Personally I do not own uggs... I think they make peoples feet and calves look heavy and I find them purposeless (when it comes to wet protection. But I am a skiier and horseback rider so... I tend to be very practical in my bad weather style. I own serles.

I see people doing the tuck... even in the NYC summer grossness and I think they are bonkers. If the weather calls for it I say do it... if its not cold/gross out... I say it is a no. But I have always thought that way even when everyone everywhere was doing it.

I also think unless you are really skinny and can pull off the matchstick look (I cant—thank you solid thighs of muscle for making me look fat when I am not) its tough to look good with your jeans tucked into boots (in bad weather I ignore this rule for the sake of protecting myself and my clothes).

    Does that rambling help?

    Someone shut me up please!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Alexis - Your comment about the Fiona jacket made me laugh because I've been doing the exact same thing for the past few days! You'd think I would learn after the 3rd or 4th time, but no...

    ReplyDelete
  39. FFM: great little article!

As a horseback rider and a winter weather lover I too get the bunch. If you slighty roll your jeans at the bottom this sometimes helps the bunching issue... also some jeans bunch some jeans dont.

  40. jcrewmommy: I just got my masters and the girls at the schools here in the east still do it too... I keep wanted to tell them that the look makes them all look shorter and heavier. And I went to a school that is a "new ivy" and known for its preppy-ness. But seriously they make themselves look awful even the ones that are truly gorgeous look horrible in that look. ugg + mini =bad idea!

    ReplyDelete
  41. FabulousFloridaMommy: I know what you mean about checking the site less because of this upgarding fiasco. Hopefully it won't take more than a week to fix this. :) Also, sorry to hear the order you placed over the phone didn't work out. If we can't order online or over the phone, how do we order... ;)

Anonymous at 8AM: I agree with you, this is really bad of J.crew to have the website functioning like it currently is. I am also surprised to see this happening to such a large company like J.Crew too. What's worse is that they hired an outside firm to handle the creation of the new website and upgrade- they are suppose to be professionals at website! :)

Anonymous at 8:03 AM: Thanks for the nice comment about the blog! I, personally, would hesitate from ordering anything via their website unless I absolutely loved and had to have it. Do you think your local store might carry the Joelle blouse. (Also, the store could match the price online so you would pay the same.) :)

Jacquie: I actually agree with you in that J.Crew should just take the site down until it works properly (or 90% kink-free).

Josie: Congrats on the Tie Waist dress!!! :) Also, my vote is for the patent peep toe mary jane. And sour lemon is a great color. :)

Anon #23: No sale section, that is awful (I am serious too!) :)

Andrea: Thanks for the nice comment. Well, I am happy to hear that I am not the only constantly clicking on dead links (hoping they will "magically" work). ;)

Anonymous at 9:09 AM: Sorry to hear about the double orders- that's awful. :(

Blumre: I know the feeling about trying to "catch up" will all the comments! ;) (Which I think is great that we have so many!) :) It would be nice if J.Crew sent me that Fiona Jacket (I would gladly pay for it too), but first they would have to find it and with this new system... I think that is nearly impossible. :)

Anonymous at 9:57 AM: Thanks for letting us know that Monday is when the packages will most likely ship. :)

JCrewMommy: Tons of people wore jeans tucked in boots up until the summer of this year. I am not sure if it will stick around for the fall, but I suspect it will since the skinny jeans are still around. I think it looks great with skinnier figures. :) But you just had a baby, so don't worry about fitting into a pair of those skinny jeans with the boots over them. :) Personally, I am a fan of the trouser leg which not only looks great (and slightly upscale) but also easy (e.g. forgiving with weight) on my body. :)

Newyork0311: They are teasing us with those jackets! ;)

Anonymous at 10:16 AM: Glad to see I am not the only one clicking on links that don't work! Now I don't feel like I am the only one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jcrewmommy: I love the jeans-tucked-in-boots look, and wear it often in fall/winter. Paired with a cashmere sweater or short jacket, I think it's very dashing. There's no way to avoid a little bunching at the knee, because everyone's jeans (and any other pant, save those god-awful stirrup pants that befouled our planet some years ago) adjust to whether one is sitting or standing.

I highly recommend the look, anyway. And do people really say such nasty things as "your look is outdated" to one another? If so, it just indicates the person who is making that statement is insecure and needs to cut down someone else to feel better about him/herself. So I say: Go for it! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. OK. If the CS reps are saying "Don't bother with the website" and "I will TRY to place an order for you." Things are really bad off.....

    ReplyDelete
  44. I can say one nice thing about the new site: Yesterday I ordered the one-button wool brepe jacket on sale in the dark chocolate. I was hoping the price would go down more, but since I had the matching pants already I thought I'd complete the suit before the jacket sold out. Then, just now, with all the raving about the Joelle blouse, I decided for $19.99 I couldn't go wrong.

And--the site saved my J.Crew card number. I don't know about you folks but it never did this to me before. Previously, I had to dig up my J.Crew card and ask myself if I really, really wanted the purchase. Now I can just click! Could be dangerous.

P.S. Alexis, I love your blog. I wish you had a forum! Also, yesterday you were asking about lawyers. I do NOT practice commercial law but I do have a few comments about the issues that you might want to research. You can reach me at hexicon at yahoo.

  46. FFM: I just saw your question on the July4 Outfit post about the Piper Tank. I sized down for it. I am normally a small, a 6 in dresses and pants and form-fitting tops. All of the more loose-fitting things I have tried, though, fit me better in a 4. I think the Piper tank is adorable; I particularly love the neckline and I think the A-line silhouette is flattering. And all of them are now on sale!

    ReplyDelete
  47. OH MY GOSH!!! When I type in my order numbers it says that there is no such order. I have at least two boxes that should be coming and now I can't even check on them? What should I do? Should I call CS and tell them my old order number? Grrrrrrrrr. I really do need those platinum bermudas!!

  48. I want J.Crew to remove Cabochon bouquet cocktail ring $19.99... This item is no longer available.

    ReplyDelete
  49. All the colors in the Piper tank are NOT on sale. It is showing incorrectly on the website; just spoke with CS rep. only the sea glass print and soft fushia are on sale. I got my regular size 8 in both colors and I have received one already.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I just wanted to comment on the Jessie and Joelle blouses that Anon.@8:03 was asking about. I received them both yesterday and I found that the Jessie runs on the big side. I usually wear a 6 with their blouses with sleeves (because of broad shoulders like some other posters on this blog :) )but this one had a lot of room. On the models it looks ilke it should be fitted just under the bust (where the tie is)but I've got about an inch of slack all around. Maybe if I had a decent bust size I could fill it out more :)... I should have ordered a size down but it is so pretty and a final sale so I will make do!

The Joelle blouse is gorgeous and I think it runs true to size. I got this in a 6 as well and the Joelle camis I have in a size 4. They are really delicate and I am scared to rip them when taking them on and off though. Hope that helps!

I have to say that I feel so much more normal reading this blog (which I do several times a day)! I have 3 little boys at home with me so I can really relate to a lot of the other mommies on here - especially FFM - and everyone else with their J Crew love. Thanks for being instant cyber-friends!

    ReplyDelete
  51. It seems their website is 100% down right now. I got an error message when I clicked on the "sale" link and the same error message when I clicked on the "womens" link. I really feel bad for J. Crew. This website change over has gone so poorly that it should be the end of the IT firm responsible for it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anon @ 11:41: I am totally with you about the Cabochon ring! What a tease!

Anon @ 11:56: Thanks for the heads up. The other colors weren't listed with the soft fuschia Piper tank before and now they are. It's so rude of J.Crew to make it look like the others are on sale too! Although apparently that is happening a lot lately, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh, and Hexicon - since I am registered on the J.Crew website, when I log in to place an order, the website automatically puts my J.Crew card number in when I go to check out. That was the case pre-upgrade.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I received my items that shipped out Friday (before the website fiasco) and couldn't be happier. I got the silk-linen striped swing cardigan in natural/citron, and the summerweight chino mendocino jacket in white. If only the weather would cool down a little so I could wear them . . . :)

  55. ahh...I just tried to go on jcrew.com to look at the Piper tank, but any link I click displays "Error: JSP_EXECUTION_FAILED." This website is driving me a little crazy.

(didn't want to link to jcrew's website because...who know if it'll be working properly)

    Also,
Anonymous 11:41 and Michelle who both mentioned the Cabochon bouquet cocktail ring--- I usually LOVE J crew's rings, but I actually sent this one back (had tried both colors and got them for $14.00 each....and STILL sent them back.) I didn't like them in the least in person---they looked rather old-ladyish and cheap looking. So if it makes you feel any better, it's not as fab in person (IMHO)

The Morrocon coctail ring on the other hand IS quite lovely--- I was in Sephora the other day and a complete stranger asked me where I got it. It keeps popping up on sale.... keep an eye out.

  57. Ladies I forgot to mention this the other day, but I got the Favorite-fit wool gabardine wide-leg trousers (item 74023) in the mail in the Rye color. I HIGHLY recommend these pants! They are exquisite! The quality and look of them even justify the full retail price :-)

  60. Josie: the tie from dress is wonderful. I tried it on but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

I am going to Jcrew now to return an Item. I am just going to the store... at least the stores haven't gone defective yet!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I almost feel like, as a gesture of apology and goodwill, J.Crew should slip a little gift into packages of orders placed amid the chaos. Like a small "We're sorry you had so much trouble ordering, here's a $5 gift card for a future purchase." NEVER going to happen, and they probably can't afford to incur any extra costs, but just saying. Free shipping with NO additional percentage off sale items isn't overly generous given how badly they've messed up.

  62. Hello everyone! Just got back from the doctor's office. My little toddler had his cast taken off and now he has no clue what to do with his arm!

Boy you ladies sure can write! Give me a minute to catch up..

  63. I've noticed several people who have mentioned that certain items seem to be running big... Does anyone else feel like J.Crew has adjusted their sizing again over the past year (especially in pants)? I certainly haven't lost any weight in the past 5 years, but my size has gone from 2, to 0, and now 0s are generally too large... Just kind of frustrating that hardly anything fits, especially during final sale when returns are an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  64. OMG - when I clicked on the Sale button at JCrew.com, I have an "Error: JSP_EXECUTION FAILED".

    aughh!

    ReplyDelete
  65. If that's true, then my new mommy weight hasn't gone from 00 to 2 but more like to 4 or 6. *sob*

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous - I have found out that for the most part, J Crew skirts and pants do run on the larger side. I wear a size 0 in skirts and pants from J Crew, but size 2 from other designers.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anynomous 2:53 - I had my firstborn in 2006, and it took one year to get back to my pre-pregnancy size.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anon @ 2:55-- you sound like my former roommate in Boston. She loves loves loves J crew and can barely buy it any more because (god bless her) she is so naturally tiny and gorgeous. I also feel this way. I went from a 6 or and 8 three years ago to a 4 last year and now I seem to be a 2??? I weight btwn 130 (on great days) to 135 (on normal days) and I am 5'7"... THERE IS NO WAY I AM A 2.

I know in Missioni, Isili and Prada I am an 8 and they havent adjusted their sizes. What is Jcrew doing... there are small people and big people... but small people cant buy their clothes any more... and just cause america cant stop eating a full pint of ice cream in one sitting Jcrew shouldnt encourage/accomodate that! If J crew is trying to be a higher end brand... they should do what other designers do and not adjust their sizes so drastically.

Supposedly their reasoning fo rthis is that it makes people shop more...

  69. i just got a jcrew package in the mail and thought "wow that was fast! i just placed that order yesterday!" and then i realized that it was FFMs pink striped emily blouse that i bought ;)
    thanks ffm!!

  70. Re sizing: It seems like the waists on the pants are getting larger. I always have trouble with skirts and especially pants because I am an hourglass-pear combo--6 shoulders and bust, 0 waist, 4-6 hips, 6 (OK, sometimes 8) thighs. Because of my build I'm used to waists being too large for me--of course, lately because waists have been so low, I can just buy a 6 to fit my fanny and don't have to get alterations.

This year I've bought the wool crepe trousers in favorite fit and original fit, and the bermuda shorts (which I think are favorite fit), all in my usual 6. They are all absolutely gaping in the waist/tummy area, even compared to what I'm used to because of my build. The fit certainly seems different.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I know sizing is a sensitive issue for most people, but the reality is that many petite women just aren't able to wear JCrew clothing anymore due to vanity sizing. Perhaps they need to add sizes 00 and XXS like other retailers.

    ReplyDelete
  72. blumre -I think the reason why J Crew keeps their sizes geared towards the small people is that they have an interest in that certain group. For example, J Crew is very popular among the young asian women. Except for US and Canada, J Crew ships to Japan, and I think there is a retail store in Japan. If you google J Crew clothing, their items pop up in Korean, Chinese and Japanese websites, from blogs, auctions and trading online.

I read somewhere in WWD magazine that the luxury market has now shifted towards the Middle East and Asia. With that in mind, J Crew isn't going to change their sizes anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  73. all I have to say is - you guys are awesome! I feel like I've found my long lost sisters. I'm a j. crew fanatic, and I found this blog when I panicked because I couldn't access the j.crew site this weekend. Knowing I wasn't the only one experiencing the frustration has gotten me through this week!

That being said, I caved and just called in an order. I got another cashmere short sleeve tee, and got the cs to do a find-it for me for the polka-dot san telmo jacket you all raved about! Hopefully, Vivian's luck will spread and they will actually find the jacket. And, of course, my tee will actually ship in the near future...

    ReplyDelete
  74. I haven't noticed a difference in JCrew's sizing. I bought 7 pair--all different styles--of fall/winter pants. 3 fall/winter skirts and presently 2 pair of spring chinos. All are in my usual size 8 that I have been wearing from JCrew for the past 6 years. All the pants are in the Favorite or City fit.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Kater,

I don't know your size but there's a polka dot san telmo in size 0 sitting on ebay for weeks relisted over and over again for $99, BIN $109. Not that bad a price.

    -- Vivian.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I completely agree about J.Crew's sizing getting larger and larger. Most size 0 clothes they have there don't fit me without alterations. I am not a 0 in other stores. It's tough ordering from them online; I send a lot of stuff back.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Whoa, polka dot san telmo on ebay ships for free. Too bad it's not my size.

No, I'm not the seller :)

  78. webbysuzzy:

Lucky you! I had my first baby in Sept 2006, and I'm still NOT back at my pre-pregnancy weight.

  79. I have bought pants this season in the same size I always buy and I haven't had any problems. I am a size 6 short in favorite fit and a size 4 in city fit. Same as last year and I don't think I've put on any weight. At least, I hope I haven't! :) All my clothes still fit the same as always.

  80. Kater: I know the feeling- the one where you realize you are not alone. ;)

Vivian: No one is more jealous of you than me right now. You got the Fiona AND the solid San Telmo. So completely jealous!!! ;) But I also feel really happy for you. Seriously congratulations on those great buys!!!

  81. Webbysuzy: Sorry to hear about your son having a cast. :( Hopefully he is feeling better! :)

  82. Alexis:

After I floated down from Cloud Nine, reality hit (or shall I say prick?):

First, the San Telmo is a size 0. I'm not sure it'd fit. My polka dot is a 2.

The Fiona - I absolutely love the color but the more I look at it the less sure I am of its shape on me.

    Am I crazy or what?

  83. Hi Math Teacher,
Glad to hear you haven't had any pants or short fit issues like myself...:)
    I'm a teacher too:)

  84. jcrewmommy: I believe the flowy jersey bateau dress is on sale at all the stores. A few of us have picked it up for about half price. It's really flattering and very comfortable!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Hi Vivian! I think the San Telmo is size 0 will fit you fine. I also know what you mean about the Fiona- there is something a bit too boxy about it. I tried on the size 2 & 4 and thought it was because I needed the size 0. But I still like it (granted not as much as the Polka Dot jacket). :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Just wondering... is anyone else having problems with orders placed during the website "upgrade"? I ordered something on Sunday, received a confirmation email, saw the charge on my credit card, but now the charge is gone and I haven't received a shipping confirmation. Any idea what could be going on?

    ReplyDelete
  87. hey vivian -

I agree with alexis, I think you'll like the fiona. I've had both the fiona and the san telmo on (tried san telmo when it first came out and didn't buy it - dumb move on my part), and I think the fiona is a little less boxy than the san telmo. It has more of a curve in the body or something. So if you are ok with the cut of the san telmo, you should be fine with fiona!

  88. I just went to the store and return my linen ruffle top that had a hole in it :( they didnt have any left. So I bought the crisp poplin mini, the masic turtle cardigan and the madras maryanne handbag as a present for a firend. All for the price of the skirt. THank you 25% off plus educators discount.

So that plus the beach I have had a fabulous day!

Don't think I could deal with being a housewife permanently (I would be so bored, I acutally missed working today). But For today, sand + sun+ ocean+ jcrew, my day was MADE!

    ReplyDelete
  89. and when I said "bought" in my last post... I meant exchanged!!! Thats right! Wahoo... three for the price of one... still I would have liked the top. But oh well... I will live.

  90. marisa: So glad you like the shirt...sorry the packaging gave you "false hope", but that WAS fast shipping, wasn't it? ;)

  91. Okay, I know there was mention of the matchstick jeans, but I can't remember where. For those of you that have them, do they fit the same as their other jeans? I have had their bootcut, but would really like the cropped white jeans. Should I go with my normal size in jeans, or not take the chance since they're a final sale item?

    Thanks for your input.

    ReplyDelete
  92. michelle: Thanks for the information about the Piper Tank...I LOVE it! That one is definitely on my list if I can get it in my size...I think I will need to size down to a 0 or 2 from a 4 or 6...I bought a 0 in the Lana Top and a 2 in the Suzannah Cami...it's so weird for me with this sizing...no sleeves 0 or 2...sleeves 4 or 6...it's just impossible to know anymore...another reason I hate final sale!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. FFM: If you are a 0 in the Lana top, I would definitely buy a 0 in the Piper top. I tried on both and was a 0 for both. They're cut the same in that they're tighter around the shoulders but billowy in the waist, so it's a bit more forgiving. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Blumre's post got me thinking,
How many of you were able to use your educators discount in the store *with* the extra 25% off? I was told one day that it was "one or the other" and then yesterday, was able to use both..... I was buying a dress on sale, and a belt regular price, so I said "I probably have to ring them up seperately since I can't use my teacher discount on the sale item" and she said---"sure you can" and rang them up together with the additional 15%. I wasn't about to argue :) but I am wondering, what is the actual rule??

    ReplyDelete
  95. josie: I stopped by Old Navy today (on my way to J.Crew) and got the high waist skirt in the gray...I didn't even see the black, or I would have gotten it as well. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SKIRT!!!!! I only WISH it came in White and Navy!!! I sized up to a 6 just like I did with the J.Crew Chambray Skirt, so that it is longer, but I plan to set the buttons over to make up for the extra 3/4 inch difference. :) Thanks for the tip...the quality on this Old Navy item is just as good, if not better than some of the skirts I have seen at J.Crew.

Btw...I have always received the educator discount on top of the sale price...YAY!!!

melanie: Thanks for the info on the Piper Tank...I will definitely go with the 0. :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. FFM: It looks like we wear the same size in tops and in shoes and have exactly the same sizing issues. I will try those 9.5 linen peep toes if I see them as I promised :)

I have never had a problem withthe educators discount

  98. Hi Everyone: Here is my update for today:

I received an email from J.Crew saying that my order is in the process of being shipped, and that I should receive it at the beginning of next week. The CS rep said they will probably not be able to get the tracking # into the system in time, but that it has been verified and is on the way...YAY! :)

I made it to my J.Crew today because as luck would have it, when I called yesterday afternoon to see if they had the Refined Canvas San Telmo Jacket in a 4 or 6 they did...well, in the 6 at least. SO...I took all 4 of my boys to the mall today...yes, I know...but sometimes obsession outweighs logic, and we made the trip over to J.Crew. Anyways, I DID purchase the Solid San Telmo in Black for $38...$59.99 sale price + 25% in store + 15% educator. YAY!!!

I also purchased the Solid Katie Sweater Jacket in Geranium for $19, and the Solid Elizabeth Halter in Navy for $38, as well. The icing on the CrewCake was actually purchased at AnnTaylorLoft...I bought the Navy Blue Mattress Stripe Trousers for $14.99. The pic doesn't do them justice, and I don't know why they are called Mattress Stripe, but they are just adorable! The girls at AnnTaylorLoft were amazed at how well it went together, and I was so pleased to have spotted them...they are a Navy Blue Sailor Pant with White stripes and match the Navy Elizabeth Halter PERFECTLY...that is an entire outfit for $53...I just LOVE it! :)

They had a ton of San Telmo Jackets in Black sizes 8, 10, and 12 if anyone is looking...they are $59.99 plus an addt'l. 25% off...the number is 407-226--9732. They also had alot of the Solid Katie Sweater Jackets in Geranium, and also the Candace Jacket in Sweet Orange and Brilliant Blue for $49.99 + 25% off. :)

I tried on one of the Caterina Tops in a 0 and the "u" in the front was so low that it was indecent...too bad...it was $19.99 + 25% off. :(

    BOLO:
I am looking for the Striped polished-cotton baby-doll top in Black and White size Small. If you see it PLEASE tell me, as they only had it in Medium, and I really want one to wear with my San Telmo Jacket and White Wide Leg Pants.

    Sky: THANK YOU! :)

I think that's it...busy day out...oh yeh...met a different manager at the store today, and she seems like a real "stickler"...hope she's not there the next time I go in, and I'm REALLY glad my FAVES Jessica and Joshua were there to take care of everything. :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. P.S. I tried on the madras jacket that i ordder int he size. NOT FRUMPY AT ALL.. and I can't wait for it to arrive now. I mean i dont think I have ever owned anything that wild (other than my madras skirt and bag) in my life... But I am so excited and it fit. Yes it runs big as a 4 fit me and I am a 32DD.

Also the halter beach dress actually fit me! I know it will drop to 29.99 eventually so I am waiting for that. BUT a I cant believe it fit and I wasn't pouring out of it.

FFM:Sounds like you had a fabulous day :) I am so happy you found the jacket!

    ReplyDelete
  100. blumre: Thanks! Sounds like you had a Fabulous day, as well! :)

vivian: I want the Fiona, too! :) What color are you getting it in? What color is your San Telmo?

    ReplyDelete
  101. FFM: No, I don't have a tracking # yet. The positive note for me was they provided me with the converted order numbers for orders placed on Friday, June 27 (three orders). Then I reordered the VV jackets, & the madras jacket & skirt. Wait, I have SIX outstanding orders because I ordered the Helena Pave sandals. Did you get tracking #'s? I know you know that means they shipped so if you did I'm really envious. Did you sweet talk another CSR into putting your boxes on the truck? (ha ha)

I don't like the way they consolidate the orders in the chart at the bottom of the Order History page. The Order # should be displayed in the chart too.

Enjoy the 4th everyone. You're all invited to my house for our fireworks show! (wink wink)

  102. hi there...it's been a while...i'm suffering from "jcrew screwed up website fatigue"! ;)

i made my way to the jcrew at westfield in san francisco today but only came up with 3 of those straw flower belts for ~9.70 each...i got green, pink and orange...should be fun to wear :) i would have provided a link but the links at JCrew are NOT WORKING now...geez!!

anyway, wanted to share a funny story...was in the city for a dr. appt. and my dr. was wearing some printed city fit cafe capris...i can't provide a link 'cause the website is screwed up and i don't know if they're online anymore anyway....but i commented on them knowing they were from jcrew and turns out she loves jcrew and orders online often, etc., etc. we talked about jcrew cardigans, t-shirts, tanks...it was so funny. FYI, she said the printed cafe capris run a size to small. i told her that i was on my way over to the store after my appt....there are a lot of aficionadas out there!

math teacher: i have the overdyed cropped matchstick jeans in soft graphite...they run a whole size big so i sized down for them. the associate told me that they run bigger than the regular denim ones.

also, there were tons of tulip jackets in whatever the yellow color is...citrus lime? they also had a lot of lana tops left in grey and was it spiced mustard?

i tried on the Crystal-button starlet jacket for size...they had it in pink but i'm eyeing the blue one. the jacket is nice and true to size but the crystal buttons are sort of rough on the button holes.

ok, just wanted to share...have a great 4th!!!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Math Teacher, I agree with Blumre that the cropped matchstick jeans seem to run a size bigger. I loved the fit of my cropped hipslung jeans, so I bought the cropped matchstick jeans in the same size thinking that they should fit the same -- but the matchsticks were much larger and gapped around the waist and zipper region.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thanks for all of your tips on the matchstick jeans. I may try my store before I order, but I don't remember seeing them there on my last visit. Unfortunately, my only J Crew is downtown, which means paying for parking. I love downtown, but wish J Crew would also come to one of our malls.

    ReplyDelete
  105. FYI: AnnTaylorLoft has sandals similar to the J.Crew Corossol Jeweled Sandals for $24.99 or 50% off your 2nd pair, when you buy 2, of course. They come in a Bright Orange (it would go with J.Crew Sweet Orange, Bright Flame, and Sweet Papaya) and Soft Green...they are also very uncomfortable...but personally I would rather pay $24.99 to be uncomfortable than $325.00. ;)

Nine West has sandals similar to the J.Crew Leather Capri Sandals...they are $19.99 - $39.99 and you save 20% if you purchase 2 or more pair. :)

    ReplyDelete
  106. FFM: No problem! :)

I have a question about San Telmo. I tried it on a while ago in size 4. It seemed to fit me fine but I ended up not getting it because it was still $99.99 and I had to put something away :). Since it is marked down even more now, I want one too. I called my local store and they had one left in black in size 6. I have it on hold but was wondering if it's worth driving there. Did you have a chance to try it on in both sizes? Thanks!

  107. I got my Owen Hobo in champagne this week (last one I presume). It is very nice but bigger than I thought and very delicate. The leather is prone to scratches. I like the color a lot though. Actually the color looks exactly the same as on the cover of the recent catalog. I was a bit concerned it was too light for Fall but it looks great with darker colors.

    ReplyDelete
  108. blumre: I got the Fiona in pale almond, the color I've been coveting for months. The San Telmo is in black. Seems like it comes in only one color. I can't wait to get my hands on them. Hope they fit and nicely too.

    -- Vivian

    ReplyDelete
  109. Sky: Congrats on the Owen hobo in Champagne. I love that color, but am worried that with a toddler, I can't keep it pristine clean. I did wonder about the leather scratching. The darker color one shown on the J.Crew website already has scratches if you look closely. But I thought that Champagne can mask any scratches much better.

Do you plan to keep it? I love that it's bigger than you thought!

  110. To Josie:
I was not able to use my student's discount on top of final sale items. The rule is "one or another". I even called J crew and they stated the same, but applied the discount anyway since I have called and clearly wanted a discount. Four J crew's B&M stores in my vicinity refuse to combine discounts. I feel if I call and nag, the CS will add the students's discount to my purchase, but.. I stopped doing it b/c it's really diminutive.Fabulousfloridamommy and Blumre are very fortunate to have nice associates who are more flexible.I am so envious.:)

    ReplyDelete
  111. This blog is so detrimental to my credit card!! I called CS and asked about the flowy jersey bateau dress, and she adjusted the price for me - 50% off, plus 25% and 15% teacher's discount!! So I had to grab one! There's plenty is stock, according to CS.

    -- Vivian

    ReplyDelete
  112. Oops, sorry - earlier comment about Fiona and San Telmo jackets are meant for FFM.

    -- Vivian

    ReplyDelete
  113. Slastena: I'm sorry to hear you can't get the student discount on final sale items. That's just so strange. I've not had any problems with my teacher's discount - despite calling CS so many times. No questions asked. One rep did get it wrong by saying it's 10% instead of 15%, but corrected herself it like in a heartbeat.

    -- Vivian

I think you should insist, or at least ask to speak to a supervisor.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Thanks Vivian :) However, I am not sure if I am going to keep the bag. I really like the color but the bag came with few little scratches - already! I couldn't tell if somebody returned it but I didn't mind. The leather is so delicate that the scratches are unavoidable. When I ordered it I also thought that Champagne would be more durable than the darker, suede looking one. I am not sure if I would recomend it as a bag you could use daily around a toddler. I'd say take your chances and return it if it doesn't work - it is beautiful. I am still debating about mine. I keep wondering how it will look after a month of actual wearing..

    ReplyDelete
  115. Vivian - where did you find out that the flowy jersey bateau dress is half off? what colors do they have in stock?

    ReplyDelete
  116. sky: I was thinking about getting the Owen bag when J Crew had the 20% coupon on anything over $175. I have an Uptown tote that is made from Borge Garveri leather. The reason I didn't purchase the Owen is that I have a feeling J Crew will produce future Owen bags in different colors. My Uptown is black on the outside and blue inside. That was when it was priced at $195. Now the Uptown comes in so many colors that I can't even remember and the price is now $230.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Webbysuzy: I read it in this blog that stores are carrying that dress half-off. Don't quite remember which thread. They have all colors available in stock. The CS rep says the website is slow in catching up with the discounted price.

I've been eyeing that dress since it first appeared. After reading the blog, I just couldn't resist!

  118. Vivian: Okay. I do know that J Crew stores have marked down some items. I'm going to repeat myself here: the solid Kayla blouse which retails for 68.00 is 39.99 at the store, plus the 25% off in case anyone is interested:)

    ReplyDelete
  119. Thanks, Webbysuzy!

We should post if we find any new arrivals marked down in the stores. Anyone seen the Cotton taffeta skirt, denim pencil and pleated garden skirts marked down?

Or the Domino Jacquard skirt (I'm nuts about polka dots these days...)

    ReplyDelete

  124. I have a Jessie blouse arriving next week, but after reading what some of you wrote about the actual size, I'm thinking it'd be too big for me. Wonder what to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hi webbysuzy: You are lucky :) I paid $230 for my uptown bag (in almond/flame) but it was worth it. I use is all the time - it is beatiful and durable. No scratches and I don't have any problems with cleaning it (I use a white soft pencil eraser to clean it). The leather used on Owen Hobo is softer than the one used to make uptown totes. It is the kind you can scratch with your (short) nail. If I keep the bag I'll post an update on it's condition in few weeks. I definitely wanted to praise the champagne color that is a bit darker in person than on the picture on the web.

    ReplyDelete
  126. sky: Okay, I thought the leather from the Uptown was the same as the Owen, but now that you mentioned that it's softer that does make a difference. I read it somewhere that Borge Garveri leathers are also used in Hermes handbags.

Overall, I like the Owen bag design. It reminds me of the YSL Mombasa bag.

  127. I had gone to my local J.Crew last week and felt I'd had a good handle on their inventory, but I thought I'd go in anyway. And oh boy! I found so much! For $170, I got:

A silk / cashmere wrap in pink, a Sanur dress in navy, an Alexa dress in blue polka dot, a reversible wallet for $7 and two pairs of 5" chino shorts. I was amazed!

I feel like we had a post with the Sanur dress in the comments, but I can't find it. And I have to say that I was kind of hesitant about it because it's in jersey material and that's notorious for showcasing all the (wrong) bumps on my body. But this fell so gracefully! I was so amazed! I fell in love with it the minute I put it on.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Oh! Also, for anyone near the Palo Alto, CA J.Crew all colors of the Piper tanks are on sale for $59.99. I saw my pewter gray again and got excited, but they only had a size 2.

So ... this is directed towards FFM. I tried it on in size 2 and here's my revised opinion. I liked the way the 0 draped much better, it fell straight(er) and poufed less. However, this time around, I noticed the arm holes were a little tight on the 0. So ... not sure how to describe my arms. :) It was barely noticeable but there. I think it would bother me but maybe not you!

    ReplyDelete
  129. webbysuzy: Too bad I don't own any Hermes bags to compare the quality :) Don't get me wrong - I love the Owen Hobo. I am just not sure if I can carry such a nice and delicate bag and not cry over every (highly anticipated) scratch. I also don't believe I could treat it with pencil eraser...

  130. sky: I didn't get the chance to try the San Telmo in a 4, as the smallest they had was the 6, and it fits me well...the shoulders are just right (mine are broad...about 15.5 inches), and if I had gone smaller I don't think it would have worked out. It looks supercute with a tan(camel) tank and white pants, that black and white striped top I have the BOLO out on w/white pants, and I will also wear it with my Wide Leg Pants in Cool Graphite and a white tank...I got mine for $38, so it was definitely worth it! :) I can give you shoulder measurements tomorrow if you like. :)

Btw...will you PLEASE look for the Striped Polished Cotton Babydoll Top for me?

  131. vivian: did you see the posts by josie and I about the Old Navy skirts that are VERY similar to the Cotton Taffeta skirts? They are on sale for $20 in black and gray...you can only buy them in the store...VERY CUTE! :)

  132. Sorry about posting again ... I really should organize my thoughts before pressing the publish button. :)

I have to add that I love the smocked dresses, such as the Alexa dress. I think because they take me right back to my childhood, when my Mom would dress me up in these and I loved the swingy skirts then too. I now own three and I think I want about eighty more. :)

I did have a smocked polka dot dress that was somewhat ... crinkly? For want of a better word. The Alexa dress is a "smooth" cotton but this one that I bought originally is sort of crinkly the way crepe paper is and partly see-through. Anyway, LOVE them.

And ... thinking before posting this time.

Does anyone have any opinions on this dress? They had them in the store today, in the same material as the Lana top. I like everything EXCEPT the rosette. The cut and drape is great ... but that rosette is just poking straight out! It's so awkward! Haha, I felt like I had a big rose that was just pointing the way for me to go. It was weird!

  134. sky: I understand, especially for 395.00. My advice is this; place/hang your Owen near your closet and think about your wardrobe and how your Owen would work with it. In other words, how much usage can you get with the Owen?

As for stains, I don't know what your profession is, but stains tend to appear magically. Just grabbing a cup of coffee or tea at Starbucks, or going out to eat at a cafe or bar, well you get the picture (don't mean to scare you).

  135. melanie: I WANT THAT DRESS!!!!! I have wanted it ever since a poster on here commented about purchasing it (at full price, I think)...how much was it, and what size did you take?

    ReplyDelete
  136. melanie: Kudos on your new J Crew wardrobe:)

Ah I used to work in Palo Alto, Ca, before I met my boyfriend (now my husband). I love CA, very homesick now:(

    ReplyDelete
  137. FFM: Hey! I didn't look *too* closely at the price, since I wasn't considering it. But I'm pretty sure it was under 100 ... maybe $99.99. Maybe even 79.99. Sorry I can't remember. :( But they had all sorts of sizes in the pewter gray and mustard yellow. I was a solid size 4. I also tried on a 6 and it worked pretty-not bad, except it was a bit roomier in the bust. :) If I'd gotten a 6, I would have gotten the shoulder straps shortened to bring it up a little.

Also, the front has "pleats" kind of? So it sort of bells out rather than smoothly drapes. I don't know if you've tried it on in the store so I thought I'd warn you. :) It didn't look like it did but when I put it on, I noticed it.

If you want the dress after all and can't get them to ship it, I can try picking it up for you and mailing it. I bought my fiancee lots of stuff from the Gap. Since he's so picky, I'll probably have to return some stuff and it won't be any problem to pick that up for ya too. Just let me know!

  138. FFM: Thanks for the info on the San Telmo jacket and the fashion advice. The outfit sounds great. I have the logan linen pants in white and they should do. I love to combine tan, grey, and black. My shoulders are also broader - that is why I have those sizing issues. Since the jacket in size 6 fits you, I will just drive to the store tomorrow. Also, do you have the item number for the babydoll top?

  139. webbysuzy, that's so cool that you used to work in PA! Where at, if I may ask.

I'm a North Carolina native and I am actually pretty new to the Palo Alto area. I moved here in April 2007, so I wonder how long I can keep playing the "I'm new to this area!" card. It still FEELS new in a lot of ways - there's a lot about NC I miss. :)

    ReplyDelete
  140. melanie: That is SO super sweet of you to offer to pick it up, but now that you mention pleats... I had better not risk it without actually trying it on first...didn't see any of them at my store today...bummer...

    ReplyDelete
  141. sky: The item number is 92745, and it looks like This , only the model has it tucked in...it's fuller at the bottom...looks FAB with the jacket and white pants...just love the silohuette of the entire outfit. :)

    ReplyDelete
  142. No problem, FFM! If you change your mind, just let me know! I thought the belled-out skirt looked nice, it sort of gave it a 50's twist to me, but it might not be for everyone. Maybe the person who bought it originally can also comment on the pleat-y-ness?

  143. webbysuzy: I have been thinking about this bag for two days already and I am still not sure. I am affraid that if I put it near or try it on with my fall clothes the bag will stay here despite the gloomy forecast. I'll keep you posted :)

  144. melanie: I used to work at Palo Alto Medical Foundation on El Camino Real. It's right across the street from Stanford University.

I graduated from San Jose State University. I love the Bay Area. You are still new in the area, trust me. I would call you a "transplant" (it's nothing offensive!).

I think there should be another J Crew store at Valley Fair in Santa Clara.

  145. FFM: Thanks for the style number. I'll let you know tomorrow if I found them. Good night everyone!

  146. I've never seen such an awful system upgrade before... IT system contractors might be sued either by J.crew or by customers who lost the orders...

  147. jcrewmommy:
I personally do not like the pants tucked in the boot look (including the skinny jeans tucked in the boot), unless you are riding a horse.

I think I dislike the look because I grew up in the seventies. I had the three Charlies Angels dolls wearing the one piece suits tucked in their boots (and their van too!). Loved Charlies Angels and their look then, but not now.

I love boots, and boots with skirts and dresses.

I do not follow the trends so my opinion is probably not one to consider.

  148. anon @ 10:25 PM (ndacuycuy@cox.net): If you have been reading this blog over the past few weeks you would know that one of the things that bother us THE MOST is J Crew's inflated shipping. I did look at one of your Fiona jackets, but $11.99 to ship? Please, this is inflated shipping at its worst. I think I'll go without rather than pay your trumped up prices and inflated shipping on top of that.

  149. melanie: If you do go back into your J.Crew today, please look for the Striped Polished Cotton Baby Doll Top in Black and White Stripe, Size Small...I could probably even do an Extra Small...maybe you could try it? We seem to be about the same size, and I think an XS might work as well. The item # is 92745 and it looks like This , except the model has is tucked in...it is actually fuller around the bottom, It was $14.99 + 25% addt'l off in my store. THANKS!!! :)

sky: I know you are going your store today, as well...if they don't have Small, but do have an XS, will you please try it on as well? We seem to also be about the same size...thank you!

  150. TO Salestena: I spend a lot of time in very VERY affluent areas (I am obviously not since I am a fundraiser but my family is). I think when you shop in areas like Greenwich CT, West Hartford, and NYC (not all but some of the NYC stores like Columbus Circle and still waiting for the JCrew Collection store on e.79th) they are more willing to give discounts cause more people buy at full price.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Blumre, Maybe you didn't mean it the way it sounds (mean)....but I feel sorry for Salestena right now...just b/c she doesn't live in an affluent area and pay full price doesn't mean that she shouldn't get a discount...JCrew SHOULD have consistent store policies that are followed. In one store I can use the student discount on top of sales and in another JCrew 15 minutes away I can't...go figure...nothing to do with "affluency".

I am "off" for 5 days:) Enjoy the holidays, everyone;)

    ReplyDelete
  152. I totally didn't and I am so sorry... I just meant to try the stores in the snottier areas! I have no idea where she lives... for all I know she is in orage county. I just think stores that tend to do the best tend to not mind giving add't disocunts. Stores that have trouble hitting their monthly targets probably are stricter.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Blumre: Personally, I did not think your 9:25AM comment came across mean. You actually stated that you are not personally affluent and that you spend time in areas that are (but never saying that you in fact, live there). :)

I will also say that I totally agree with Anonymous at 9:54AM in that J.Crew should have store policies that are consistent no matter where you are in the country. :)

I also feel bad for Slastena and ohter J.Crew customers at her stores- who get stuck choosing one discount over the other. I don't think that is fair.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Slastena: I had the same problem in the stores in my area but after reading this blog I called CS to clarify. The last answer regarding the student discount was that I should have received it on any in store purchase and in case of any problems in the future I should ask the store clerk to call customer service. I got my discount last week even though the clerk didn't want to apply it right away. I asked him to call CS but he decided to give me the discount without calling. I wish it was easier...

    ReplyDelete
  155. Sky that is an excellent suggestion! Salestena try it next time and see if it works.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Sky & Blumre: I don't want to speak for Slastena, but in another post I suggested that she do the same. The short version of what happened: Slastena actually called J.Crew customer service while she was outside the J.Crew store. Then J.Crew customer service called the store and verified with the manager that they did NOT offer both the 25% off sale discount with the educator/student discount. Customer service called Slastena and said that the policy was up to each store's manager.

After her story, I started telling people that some stores do not offer both discounts (whereas before I always said that they did). I personally, think that this is unfair: all stores should carry the policy of offering both discounts. :)

    ReplyDelete
  157. P.S. Sky I am really happy to hear though that you were able to get both discounts! :)

    ReplyDelete
  158. FFM: I do not remember seeing that at my store but will definitely check the next time I go back in. :) I'll try it on for you and report back the results!

    ReplyDelete
  159. To Blumre:
I was not offended , but (funny!) I do live in a VERY affluent area and the discount still was not given to me. Alexis summed it nicely: if I call and insist and argue my way , I will eventually get it. BUT.. asssocites get uncomfortable, I get mad, and one the whole , the situation ruins the shopping experience.. Last time I did it, I spent 30 minutes on the phone and was told at the end the decision is up to the store manager discretion.. Left a sour taste in my mouth, so I am not doing it anymore.:) I am strictly buying sales now.

    ReplyDelete
  160. To anonymous at 9:54 am:
Very sweet of you to extend supportive hand to a fellow jcrew aficonada. :)I totally think Blumre did not mean to offend anyone.

    Alexis:
thank you for summing out my dilemma so nicely ( you are obviously a more eloquent writer then I am ( despite my great belt-sewing abiliies , LOL)).:)

    Blumre and Sky:
thank you for the suggestions. If I place a large enough order in a store, that will definitely justify my call to get additional discount. Otherwise, I am too hesitant arguing with store clerks/managers. I totally agree with Alexis that there should be a uniform policy across every store .

    ReplyDelete
  161. Ok, ladies, I am a newly converted J. Crew lover and I have a question for you all: I placed an order (FYI, for the critter-collar polo in that peachy color I can never recall) on Tuesday morning (the 1st).

I received my confirmation email but never a shipping email, and when I check my order status, it says "open" and shipping 4-7 days. Does this mean it will ship in 4 to 7 days or is it simply reminding me that I chose standard shipping so my order will arrive in 4 to 7 days once shipped?

Also, the critter-collar polo--if you have ordered it,

    a) does the size run large or small? I am a pearish shape and my bb's are big but my waist is littler so larges tend to drape over me but mediums can be a little snug in the chest, especially when buttons are involved. I went with the medium.

    And

    b) My order status shows that my item does not have personalization. I was not given the option to personalize during check-out. Does this mean there will be no critter on my collar, or did I just not get to choose the critter but there will be one, or what? I love the cute little critter stuff!

Also, if I do get a critter, are they all the same or different critters for different colors and if so, which critter will I get with my peachy melba-type polo?

If you understood all this and can offer advice/suggestions/input, then Thank You!!!!!
    ~Rachael

  162. Slastena: I am so not "a more eloquent writer" than you. I notice I make way more grammatical errors than anyone else commenting on this blog- my professors would be embarrassed for me. But I appreciate the nice comment! ;)

Hi Rachael! Unfortunately with this new system, I am not sure when you order will be shipped. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Maybe someone else can provide more insight. :) By the way, I think the critter collar polos are adorable! :) According to the J.Crew website, it sounds like there is a critter on the polos already: "Flip up the collar to show off the critter—it's printed on the outside." From past experience, they usually have a different critter for each color. I hope this helps. :)
