J.Crew Online Site: Mini Update

In the "Site down AGAIN! :(" post, I asked how long (in terms of days, weeks, or months) we think it will be until the J.Crew online sites works to near perfection. Luna, in the same post, gave us some insight. The following is her comment in its entirety:

I can tell you that there is no ETA on when the website will be running smoothly again. I work in the call center and we've updated our ordering system as well as the website. We've worked out alot of the kinks but are still having some issues. I know its lame but just bear with us!

I guess the J.Crew site could work tomorrow, a week from now, or just not work for awhile.

I also want to thank Luna for taking out the time to let us know. :) I really appreciate it! I know how frustrated I feel with the new site- so I am very sympathetic for all the J.Crew employees and customers who are dealing with the hassles related to the new system change. :)

Can you imagine how much this new system/website upgrade has cost J.Crew over the past week or two? Many of you commented about getting some of your orders- have you received all of your orders by now (or are you still waiting)?

94 comments:

  1. I have only received 3 out of the 5 items from my order placed on Friday 6/27/08 (pre-upgrade). I spoke with a CS rep this morning, and he said the system shows that the items have been pulled and packaged for me, but they have no idea where they are in the process of being shipped to me, since there are no tracking numbers. It seems as if the items ordered last week are seeing a better chance of making it to their destination than the orders placed pre-upgrade or the first week post-upgrade. He said that 700 orders were sent by Overnight (Expedited) shipping on Thursday...the Amelia Tank I ordered on Thursday was one of those, and I received it yesterday...YAY! Now if I could JUST get my Solid Kelly Sweater Jacket, Joelle Blouse, and Gift Card I would truly be thrilled!

I can only begin to imagine how much this is costing J.Crew...I mean, can you imagine the shipping cost for overnighting 700 packages? Plus all of the extra manpower and overtime to try to get this all straightened out...what a nightmare! I wonder if anyone has lost their job because of this fiasco? Holiday weekends are always big for retailers both in-store and online, so with the site being so messed up July 4th weekend, they missed out on that revenue, too.

  2. I'm in need of a fix and the website just isn't doing it for me. On that note, I'm headed to the JCrew outlet in Myrtle Beach today in hopes of finding or two (or 12!) things that amount to a really sweet deal. Keep your fingers crossed - my thought is that because it's Myrtle Beach and because it's summertime, the selection will be picked over. I hope they fix the site soon because I can't be headed to MB all the time! Have a good Saturday all...

  3. FabulousFloridaMommy: That is great that you received 3 items! Now you just need the other 2 (which hopefully you will get since they have been pulled and packaged).

Also, when you get the Solid Kelly Sweater Jacket, let us know how it is. I had my eye on it for awhile but wasn't sure how it looked in person.

I can't believe the whole situation with their tracking numbers- I am really surprised by how disorganized it has become. 700 packages being shipped overnight cannot be cheap!

Peacegrrrl: I know what you mean about getting a J.Crew fix. I think that is why I went to a store yesterday to return a blouse, so I could see some merchandise! :)

  4. I ordered one order (with two items) on June 26th pre-upgrade and another order (with three items) on July 3. I've received one of my items from the first order (the Frances blouse in white). The blouse arrived via USPS and they e-mailed me a non-working tracking number AFTER I had received the package. No word on the other item in that order.

I got a tracking number for my second order yesterday but that doesn't work either! Has anyone else been getting tracking numbers that start with 0000? Shipping customer's packages with non-existing tracking numbers is so SKETCHY. I almost wish they would just wait until they had the right numbers. CS has been friendly but they can't really help on the shipping situation.

I'm going to visit my B&M store today. I'll be shopping there more often because I am starting to mistrust the shipping procedures.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sophie: That is so random to get an email with a tracking number after you received that item! I really don't know what to say about their tracking/packages system right now- it just seems like a complete mess.

I totally understand about shopping more at their stores. I haven't bought anything online since their website upgrade. I find its a lot easier to just go to their stores once in awhile. :)

  6. I am living overseas for the summer. Having packages shipped to family members. I have placed 3 orders right before upgrade and 4 orders since. I have no idea what I have got and what I haven't as I am not about to ask my poor father to go through the boxes when/if they do arrive. So far nothing as come. All I can do is wait and see in Aug. what I got and what I didn't. Really not fun. I have contacted CS so many times paying for the long distance overseas call and they have given me so many different answers/wrong answers that I just decided to give up. I not going to order again until Sept. I have really lost complete faith in this company and am having fun shopping Europe instead.

  7. I placed two orders on 7/3, one of which I received a shipping confirmation email with a bogus tracking number and one of which i did not (the order is showing on the site as Released). I placed another order on 7/6, which i received a shipping tracking number for the day after i received it, and it didn't work anyway. this doesn't make any sense to me!

florida mommy/alexis - i have the kelly jacket in solid navy and i like it a lot. it is good, fairly thick material and a cute shape. i bought it after receiving so many nice comments on my stripped kelly sweater jacket (which i have in cream with papaya stripes). i was told i looked very jackie kennedy by one of my friends, and like the children's cartoon character Madeline by another friend, lol. I paired it with my papaya joelle tank, and it looked very nice together. I have fun wearing both, and i hope you do as well!

  8. I talked with a CS yesterday and she said that once the upgrades are over CS power will be unstoppable (her words). She said whereas before they had to submit for price adjustments they can do it right when you order. This way your credit card is not authorized for more than your actual bill will be!!

  9. Yesterday I received my order from 6/29. I only received two of the ordered items, even though they were all included on the packing slip. Someone had handwritten "B.O." and crossed out two of the items. Fine, except my card was charged for ALL of the items? After a call to CS, the charge was reversed, but how irritating! And of course, those two items are now OOS.

    ReplyDelete
  10. anon at 9:05: Where in Europe are you staying?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Y'all know my story, no need to dredge that up again. Good lord. Going down to east-no-where today to get my jacket and then I will return it whenever it comes. But my hope is that at least there won't be any tourists down in east-no-where (apologies to people who live in east-no-where. I just complain because it is far from the upperwest side).

Because of the mess they have put me through they did issue me two $25 dollar gift cards on seperate occasions and free shipping for an order after the universal FS code goes away. And they have shipped me these orders for free. So they have lost at least $100 dollars on me... then again then have seriously botched some orders.

That said, I ecourage everyone to be kind to the CS reps... Since this entire thing has happened I have made it my goal to be as nice as posible no matter how annoyed I am. They are working hard and trying.

    ReplyDelete
  12. FFM: I know you got a gift card too. I got an e-mail for the second one they are sending me saying it was issued (last night), but didn't get an e-mail on the first one (wednesday). Did you get an e-mail for yours? Think we will ever get them?

    ReplyDelete
  13. My Via Vittoria jacket that I ordered on June 29 won;t arrive after all. They "short-shipped" me meaning the jacket never existed in inventory when I placed my order. And the awful thing is, they even sent me a shipping confirmation on July 5. If I didn't call and ask why it hasn't arrived yesterday, I'd no idea what was going on. AND they charged my card. I just fired off an angry email to CS, because on top of this, they had UPS deliver another jacket to the wrong address. And had the cheek to offer me "free shipping on your next order" as an apology!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow Vivian... I am so sorry. That is awful.

    But cheek... haha love it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And you know what? On my CC, JCrew orders used to show up and included the order numbers - so I know which order for what amount. Now these charge details come with strings of unidentifiable numbers - so if you have many orders, you have a hard time tracking them on your credit card.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sometimes Fedex overnight packages get delivered on Saturdays. If anyone get packages today, please post. I want my packages!! DH gets home this evening.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Vivian: I am sure I wont since mine were sent UPS and I have the tracking numbers but I will be sure to let you know if I do.

Ok I really wish they would take the cotton argyle crewneck off the website because that is SUCH a tease. I have it in green and would love it in pink and I see it in yellow on the site and think well maybe there are more colors avialable... and there aren't. And it says "null$." And that is such a bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks, Blumre. I usually get my J.Crew packages through UPS, but the past few days I received two orders through Fedex Overnight.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am missing a total of (gasp) 38 items that I ordered both pre and post upgrade. Numerous calls and emails have turned up nothing. Yesterday, my most recent order (containing the black bathing suit pieces, THANKS FFM, that I do so want and need) shows "completed" so I am anxiously awaiting that box. Since it is my biggest order I guess that I am happy that at least ONE of my orders has been shipped. It also contains my Sea Glass Piper tank that I wanted to wear YESTERDAY (I'm feelin your pain Blumre). I'll update everyone when it arrives.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Alexis: I love my Kelly jacket in flame. It's very classic, and the color is gorgeous. I've put it in the washer once, and it still looks good - texture and color-wise. The material is not as thick and stiff as the Candace jacket.

I would get another one if they have other colors. I have too many navy pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  21. How are all of you seeing when things turn up on your credit card. Sorry if I sound like an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  22. jcrewjunkie: holy cow!!! 38 items.

What did you wear instead? That is probably a cruel question, you don't have to answer if you don't want to ;)

    Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  23. jcrewjunkie: 38 orders!!! I feel your pain!!

They sent one of my candace jackets in brilliant blue to Illinois. If not for the fact that it was Fedex, it won't be trackable. If it were UPS, it'd just be another order that never arrived.

The package was delivered yesterday(left on side porch, no signature required) so I'm not sure how Fedex could knock on someone's door and demand the package back.

  24. blumre:

are you talking about this argyle sweater?

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/sweaters/cotton/PRDOVR~94043/94043.jsp

They definitely had it at Tyson's 2 nights ago (so extra 25% off) in the green (which you and I both have!) and the yellow. The only thing is, the yellow is different in person than it is on the website. It's essentially reversed - the body of the sweater is white with yellow details rather than yellow with white details. I learned this the hard way when I ordered it from online and returned it because I wanted the yellow!

    ReplyDelete
  25. jcrewjunkie - on my credit card, it says J.Crew and is followed by a unique number (but in pre-upgrade days, the number would match the order number). Same for refunds - it has a string of numbers (not exactly the same as the order number) that could be matched to the relevant order. These days, I can no longer figure charges and refunds from J.Crew because the numbers are totally different from the order numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  26. FFM and Alexis: I have the Solid Kelly Jacket in navy, and I really like it. The 3 buttons make it pretty versatile. Yesterday I wore it on top of a light pink slub cotton wrap tank and buttoned the middle button, and it looked cute. It's going to be really nice in the fall for dressing up a fitted tee and jeans with flats, but I can also wear it for work. I think it's a great little sweater :) As to fit, I found it true to size, as I am usually a small, and a small fits me perfectly.

peacegrrrl: I love Myrtle Beach, and I am so jealous that you are there right now! The J.Crew outlet is good, and also the Polo outlet surprised me. We got great deals there on actual Polo items, not factory items. My parents just came back from MB and said the ocean temp is like 85 ... I wish I were there!

    ReplyDelete
  27. P.S. I am still waiting for my Sea Glass Piper Tank. I got the shipment confirmation over a week ago, but the tracking information still just says "billing information received." Everything else has come, including my black San Telmo which I ordered the day before yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  28. P.P.S. I just scored a pair of Flora slingbacks on eBay for $75! I really hope they fit, or they might be included in the the upcoming buy/swap/sell post, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kater: Yes thats the one! I will check stores today. Its just the perfect sweater under a suit in the summer and it is the perfect weight for work (or weekends for that matter).

Thanks for the warning about the yellow. I had seen it both the way you described it and with a yellow body as well. So who knows. But yea... I will look for the pink. If not I have enough clothes and I will be very happy with my green one.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I ordered two things on the 1st; shorts and a sweater vest. Still waiting for them.

Usually I receive thing in less than two weeks. Being in Canada I guess that accounts for the delay. How much longer will I wait?

I hope the shorts get here when it's still warm enough to wear them. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I forgot, I also ordered the Tierney sandal in a size 10 after I talked to the CSR and got the measurements. I never received an email about it, and I wrote the confirmation number down but I am not at home to look at it. The sandals are probably in the same place as my Sea Glass Piper Tank :P Seriously J.Crew, you are making it very difficult to love you right now!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Can someone remind me what "open" and "released" mean?

If I go to "Your Account" my order says "released." If I go to "Order Status" it is "open." I asked a CSR to send me an update and it says "open" there too. The update the CSR sent was hard to read because the columns got lost in the e-mail but there is also the dreaded "null" in there. I think I have been short-shipped (long story).

    ReplyDelete
  33. I placed 3 orders on or around June 26. NONE have come. All have been charged to my credit card. The first order showed as "open" for about a week, then was erroneously cancelled. I had to call to have them re-place the order. Who knows when/of it will ever show. The second order (3 items) showed as shipped, but I got incorrect tracking numbers emailed to me. One tracking number was for someone else's shipment from May 2007!!! The third order shows as "open." I have called CS so many times, with a different answer each time. SO FRUSTRATING!! Yesterday, I asked them to give my a refund/credit to my card for the orders because I no longer want them, and it appears they will never show. (I needed the first order, the jessie blouse in ivory, for an even that has now passed :( ). They told me they would do that for me. Now the orders show a status of "returned" on the website. But, the refunds have not credited my card. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea how long it will show up on my card, if it ever does??

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just talked to a CS and they said that they don't do item searches for sale items - only full-priced. Is this right? I am really after a Lattice-print short-sleeve cardigan in a size S. If you see one please let me know!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am still waiting for my Piper tank. After hearing all the good comments about it, I tried out the website. It still has not arrived (placed the order just before the 4th).

It really bothers me that JCrew would be emailing the wrong info around. Makes me wonder if they are emailing my tracking number to someone else...

Wish I could have found a Kelly jacket also, but I'm really not interested in the website until the kinks are worked out. I check this blog (thanks Alexis!) way more than I check the JCrew site. I'm headed down to the B&M sometime this weekend to see what's new. I'll post if there's anything new.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am doing some studying this afternoon and then heading to the J.Crew at KOP. I will keep in mind things that people said they are looking for, and I'll post if I find anything scrumptious.

  37. I know we are all very dedicated to J.Crew, but I am taking a break and decided to check out Banana Republic's site. The site is "down for scheduled maintenance" (sound familiar?), but they have a TAKE10 code for 10% off your order once the site is up again. Just FYI in case anyone would like to take save 10% at BR :)

  38. Hi elsie,
I am in merry ole England! The weather is fab today:) My stay might be extended through next summer and I would indeed like that:)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Michelle, thanks for the info. I really like BR:) yes, JCrew USED to be number one before this mess of an update....but since I don't have any stores close by and haven't gotten about 13 items from the end of June...I am taking a LONG break from JCrew. Like others...got lots of charges on my CCard but no items and just royally upset.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I spoke with a CSR a few days ago about a price adjustment concerning a order that I had placed online almost two weeks ago. She said that she took care of it, but when should I expect my credit card to be credited the amount that she discounted? I also have another online order that I applied my student discount to over the phone and that was two weeks ago, but I haven't been credited for that yet. I'm so confused and I'm starting to wonder if J Crew is really going to give me the price adjustment and student discount that their CSRs promised I would receive.

    ReplyDelete
  41. FYI: shipping from a store to you on sale and final sale items is $8.50 by FedEx. At least that is what a clerk told me in NY today:)

    ReplyDelete
  42. aly: I had emailed several days ago about the fiona jacket and my reply told me to use the "we will find it" service. So, I called last night (around 11 pm) and asked. The cs told me they didn't normally search for final sale items, but since I had received an email, she would put the search in. Well, at 11:33 pm I received an email telling me that they had searched all of their stores and didn't find my item. Yeah, right, I believe they looked...so, even if you can get them to agree to the search, don't assume that they really will. You're better off to call stores yourself if no one here finds it in a store. When I did my calling a couple of days ago, I was told to try the Scottsdale stores (which is where I made my find) and/or the smaller city stores. Good luck!

By the way, if anyone sees a fiona jacket, size 8, in pale almond, please let me know! Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  43. oops, my comment should have been directed to jcrewbug.

aly: I also called 9 days ago about a price adjustment and have yet to see it show up on my credit. I emailed them yesterday about it, but haven't heard back yet.

  44. Anon in England - it sounds like you're having a great time. Are you studying or working? I've been to London twice in the past three years, took some day trips to places like Oxford & Cambridge, also spent a long weekend in Edinburgh, plus took the train to Gare du Nord. I had an awesome time (even though when I went last summer, the weak dollar really was a drag).

Didn't a Banana Republic just open in London? I seem to recall reading that.

  46. FFM and Alexis: i tried on the kelly jacket in navy in the store and really loved it. the only thing that stopped me from buying it is that it is similar to my navy sophie peacoat sweater from winter (same buttons, knit, sleeve lengtgh, color). FFM, you're really going to love it when you finally get it! it will go with everything :)

  47. Hi from England, My husband is working over here....I am taking some time off from teaching and getting to spend some quality time with our daughter.....we are in the East Midlands (near Nottingham, Derby)...but have taken a few trips here and there when we can.....

Yes, a new Banana just opened up in London:) I was excited about that:)

Also, for all the purse fans....Radley bags over here are soooo very nice.

The weak dollar is a BIG drag though....

  48. Math teacher: thanks for the info. I called around, no luck yet.

I'm crossing my fingers that the website will come up with more stock when they get things straightened out. That lattice print (item number 91000)is so nice. I'd also like the Kelly jacket (93889) after hearing so much about it on this blog. I'm a size S, if anyone see's one put it on hold and hollar at me. rlm26@case.edu Thanks!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. And please let me know if someone wants me to check out my local J Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have the solid Kelly jacket in both colors and I love them. I am a big fan of JCrew's cotton sweater jackets. They really are transitional pieces. I wish they had offered one in white.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have received everything I ordered except the add'l order of two size 6 Via Vittorio jackets. Since they're 'extra' I'm not so worried about it (unless my cc is charged).

Michelle: Regarding last night's post, I really want to take a chance & order the
    White denim trouser item 92792
in a size 4 & 6. They are in Final Sale but they do not say FS on the item page nor in the order page. I just don't want to pay 69.99 for these pants. I saw them in the store so I think I will check them out Monday. Last time I saw them they were not on sale so I did not even consider trying them on at the full price.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Rach: I am also debating between a 4 and a 6, and I'm not keen on spending that much for them, esp with fall rapidly approaching ... but it would be really nice to have a pair of white jeans. If you try them on, let me know what you think :) I will do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Long time lurker, first- time poster...
I wish I wasn't such a J. Crew fanatic because I would have sworn them off by now. I had two orders (6/28 and 7/3) that I finally received yesterday. I called CS earlier this week to ask about shipment dates for the orders. They must have shipped them that day because I got BOTH orders on the same day! One order was incomplete and when I called CS they said that they had sold out of those items (well of course, they didn't pack my order until a week after I placed it!) and that I would get a credit. I need the website to get its bugs fixed before I place another order. Until then I'm taking my shopping else where.

On a positive note...I got the Lucia jacket python print and I LOVE it! Can't wait to wear it!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I believe it was the summer of 2005 when the JCrew by me in MN had their summer sale end of July...they had white jeans for $9.99 in 2 different styles and I got both kinds in my size...they were selling tops for $7.99 and the manager said, "It's like they are giving stuff away." I have never bought so much stuff from JCrew in my life. I doubt I will ever see a sale like that again at a regular JCrew...it was a one time fab experience.

On that note, I would wait for the white jeans to go down in price...I bet they do....but if you really really want something I always buy it b/c you just never know....but white jeans are pretty seasonal....likely to get a deal:)

    ReplyDelete
  55. KellyAnne311 & Vivian & Michelle & ccbmum & mom-nyc: Thank you so much for letting me know about the Kelly Jacket. I will definitely try to get it if my local stores have them (I won't bother trying to get it online right now). :)

Michelle: Thanks for the heads up with BR. I made it into its own post too. :)

JCrewBug: You are right that normally J.Crew doesn't do a "we will find it for you" search for sale items. But because of the website fiasco, they might do one as a courtesy. :)

Amethyst: I agree that Emailing the wrong info is terrible. Not what you would expect from a retailer like J.Crew.

Aly: Your credit card should reflect the price adjustment in about 3 days. If you haven't seen an adjustment after 5 days, just call them back and let them know.

I was suppose to get a credit for shipping and they never applied it (that or the system neglected the request). I had to call back (where they even saw in the orginal notes I was suppose to get free shipping) to get the credit back. :)

Ashley: I saw those coin purses you describe (I got one in black) at the South Windsor CT store. They had yellow and green too (when I was there about a week ago).

Elena: Welcome aboard- its great to meet more J.Crew Aficionadas. You will find that all the members here are super nice!! :)

  56. blumre: I received an email about the Gift Card on the day the CS rep issued it, but have not received any other kind of notification OR the gift card, itself. One of the reps told me to give it the 4-7 business days, which will make next Tuesday the 7th day...I really wish I would get it before all the new stuff comes out, and before they mark anything else that I've been wanting down any further. :)

michelle, ccbmum, and mom-nyc: Thanks for all the comments about the Kelly Sweater Jacket...I am really ANXIOUSLY awaiting it's arrival. Wouldn't you know that it and the Joelle Blouse are the 2 items I wanted the MOST out of my entire order, and they are the one's that are still not here...bummer!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hi just wondering if anyone has any feeback from my post at 12:32?

    ReplyDelete
  58. beth: I have still not received my price adjustment credits to my card, either. I was told the situation has a "case #", has been submitted in the notes, and will be processed shortly (which nowadays with J.Crew means in a couple of weeks). I think it's really unprofessional of them to charge your card the wrong amount and not credit you immediately, since you are paying interest based on the J.Crew charges (if you used a regular CC). At this point I think they should pay ME interest, since they won't give me my credit...it's been almost 2 weeks since the charges were placed on my card (at the full price)...that's really absurd.

    ReplyDelete
  59. thanks fabulousfloridamommy! yes i agree - so absurd that they can hold a customer's money like this and get away with it. i am one who likes to balance my checkbook/credit card daily, and this just drives me nuts!! i hope we both get our credits very soon!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi Beth: Your stituation sounds just awful. To be charged with no product is, well illegal. I am happy that you spoke up and requested to be refunded.

Your credit card should reflect the price adjustment in about 3 days. If you haven't seen an adjustment after 5 days, just call J.Crew back and let them know.

I was suppose to get a credit for shipping (for an order I was never suppose to be charged shipping for in the first place) and J.Crew never applied it after I called in the first time to get it (that or the system neglected the request). I had to call back a second time (where they even saw in the orginal notes I was suppose to get free shipping) to get the credit back. :) It's awful, but you just have to stay on top of this situation because J.Crew's new system won't.

Good luck with your credit adjustment- hopefully you will get your credit back soon! :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. thanks alexis!! yes i will definitely have to call back to make sure they credit it. imagine how many people don't notice they were charged for shipping, etc when they weren't supposed to. j crew doesn't seem to be a sketchy retailer that would try to do that, so lets hope it is just because of the computer problems!!

on another note, i just placed another order over the phone (i know, why am i putting myself through more hassle, i should just wait! :) the CS rep told me that the FREESHIP code is no longer valid - it was a code from "last week." But since i mentioned it, she let me use it. So strange...

I ordered the lightweight stretch trouser jeans. does anyone own these? i would love to know what people think! i also ordered the 5 pocket trouser jeans...but this was one of my 3 orders that never showed. anyone have either of these?

  62. FFM: Well I guess one notification is better than none.

I got the Jacket today (29.99) and I have permission to return the other when it comes (last size 4 left in NYC)!! And I got a pair of kahkis and a belt all for under what the cost of the jacket that is being shipped to me is. Jcrew just lost a whole lotta money on me!

My bf tried on the shoes and I think he will order them! YAY.

No card cases left, sigh. I saw one a tumi I liked and I think I will get that.

I hope you all had fabulous days.

P.S. Van Cleef was tons of fun. And the one I want is half the price that I thought it would be. Wahoo. I think my bf nearly died of happiness.

  67. Hey y'all,
I just placed an order with J.Crew (I finally ordered the Elizabeth halter plus some other goodies!) and thought I'd comment on the new checkout. There's definitely some features I like - it's a lot easier now to go back and change your order in the middle of checking out, and it looks like you can send items to different addresses more easily now. It also looks like you can split the cost of your order across multiple credit cards which could be good or very very bad ;). The biggest plus though is that when you apply a discount code, the discount is taken off each item rather than the total order and tax and shipping are calculated on the discounted total rather than the pre-coupon total as before which saved me $20 on my order. The downsides seem to be that the checkout is somewhat less straightforward than before - there's more options and so I think it will be easier to accidentally choose the wrong options. Just thought I'd share my experience - I'm interested to see how long it takes for my order to arrive!

  68. Webbysuzy: yes, and van cleef has gorgeous ones! But it probably wouldn't actually happen for a year... so no rush. haha

  69. So it seems like a lot of people are receiving items by USPS and then getting a shipping confirmation email afterwards. It happened to me today. Also, the tracking numbers don't exist in the USPS system and neither does the one I received for another order. I hope I get my price adjustments credited to my credit card soon.

  70. bluemre: Congratulations:) I'm curious, why did you select Van Cleef as opposed to Tiffany, Cartier, Aspery, Bvlgari, etc? I follow the jewelery industry so I am interested in your comment. Thanks:)

  71. Beth: I thought the exact same thing you did! How many customers were charged for items they never received from J.Crew!!! I mean, if we didn't catch those errors- they would have probably pocketed the cash!

I think you are also right about the FREESHIP offer no longer working. Many others have mentioned it on the blog and I noticed that they remove the offer from their contact page. :(

I don't own the exact trouser jean you have, but I do have the Trouser jean in lightweight denim (item 87251) and I love it! I find its a great jean that makes me look slimmer! :)

heather: I am so sorry to hear that you are still waiting for that order from last month!!! :(

Julia: I haven't tried out the checkout but I guess it sounds like its better than before. Thanks for letting us know! :) I look forward to trying it (once the bugs on their website get worked out completely). ;)

  72. I was at the distribution center today...the clearance center is pretty sparse. I don't know what they're doing with all the items that people have cancelled or returned based on the new "rules" of the website. I can say that I got some great items to sell and they're available on my ebay site. I hope all of the issues work out soon...there did seem to be a bit of tension at the warehouse...

  73. I guess I got lucky. I ordered a dress last Tuesday night and received it on Friday - although the tracking # they sent did not work. I tried to order online this past Friday, and it would not let me check out. I called in my order, and the CS rep was fabulous. I did not have to mention the free shipping, she offered it. I can't believe it is taking this long to resolve all of the web site issues. But their customer service is awesome, something you rarely find anymore.

  74. Speaking of the website, Alexis (or anyone) do you know if the sale section gets updated daily any longer?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Webbysuzy: I just saw it online and fell in love with it. Its the "couture" one on the website. I dont really like the single stones and I am sick of everyones three stone rings... they are all basically the same!

I didn't really see anything original at tiffany (and personally i am not a huge fan of T anyway because its not original and everyone has it). I didnt see anything I liked at Cartier or Michael c. Fina. And I refuse to buy from Debeers because I think the entire three month salary thing is BS.

And I guess in my family aspery and bvlagri aren't normally our go to places. So I just didnt even think to look there.

We have a couple of jewelers who my grandmother knows or we go to smaller shops (kind of the NYC way, you know?).

So I dont know if that is a reason. It was just a ring that looked like something i had never seen before and its so delicate that it fits my taste perfectly!

  76. Hey, this is the jacket I saw in the store earlier this week,
Stretch vintage cord peplum jacket item 96652
. I'm sure it's the same one everyone else has mentioned in the blog. You have to select a color to see the photo.

I typed "fall" in the site search box.

    Sorry if this is a repeat. (I can't sleep, I have heartburn...ugh.)

  77. Rach, thanks for the post of the picture. I don't have a store to go to so it was fun to see:)

  78. Why is JCrew doing the coat in the same and almost the same shades as the fall 2007 Charlie jacket? I have it in the orangish red and the navy from last year....not buying almost the same style coat and colors again! I bought mine on final sale and haven't even worn them yet!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yeah, and what's it doing in the Men's Shop?

  80. The fact that J.Crew is charging everyone's credit cards long before items ship -- and sometimes when the item doesn't even exist and will never ship, leaving the customer to call in and correct the issue -- is very serious and could be considered fraudulent. Not to mention the fact that refunds are not being issued in a timely manner... I think J.Crew could soon have some legal issues on its hands if it doesn't get its billing and refund practices straightened out ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  81. anonymous@8:31: I couldn't agree with you more...I was wondering about a possible law suit against them. My sister in law is a lawyer and I plan on asking her about this "practice" as I am one of the people you mentioned having charges, etc. This really bothers me about JCrew. I have been a fan of theirs for many many years but this is a serious issue that shouldn't be taken lightly or just brushed over...

  82. I am an attorney, but this is outside my area of expertise. In any case, many credit card companies have policies against retailers charging before shipment. If your credit card issuer has such a policy and you have encountered problems, you should inform them that J.Crew does not comply with the issuer's policies.

Also, info on the Fair Credit Billing Act and "Mail or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule" can be found here:

If all else fails, complaints may also be filed with the Federal Trade Commission here:

  84. Just to add my experience to this...

I ordered on Wednesday and ended up calling CS on Friday to check up on my order. When I went into my order history, the website said it was released, but each individual item in the order was labeled as open. The CS rep I talked to told me that she could tell me whether it had shipped or not (and it had), but they could not give a tracking number as those were not showing up in the system at all.

So, I know that my box is possibly in the mail, but who knows when it will come.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I got an email from CS saying that they can't tell me if my package has shipped or not...also they can't give me a tracking number. I showed the email to my husband....he has an MBA by the way...he knows I LOVE JCrew but he said, "Would you honestly continue to do business with a company like this if it wasn't JCrew?" In all honesty, "No." I said. I don't have a B & M store nearby so online is my only way to get JCrew. However, they just lost me as a customer....with no end in sight...I don't feel like waiting around...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Danielle: Thanks for the information. Haven't ordered online from J Crew since their upgrade. I really feel sorry for the others that have. I am still lucky to be near J Crew b&m stores.

  87. Not sure where to leave this comment:

Just went to my store and they have the following left on sale:

Several yellow and a few red (one was a size 8) tulip jackets. They have a ton of warm stone buttery twill cargo pants. Lots of those t-shirt ruffle collar dresses. Lots of polo shirts in several colors. A few matchstick cropped blue demin pants in 30ish sizes. There is still a Madras jacket up on the manequin. I listed these items because I remembered people were looking for these things or something similar. The store is in Westlake, Ohio.

  88. blumre: I'm glad you found your idea engagement ring. The Couture design is beautiful! Very unique.

Coincidentally, I have a three stone engagement ring. Initially, my heart was set on an emerald cut solitaire ring, but my husband was a poor student, so all he was able to afford is an older, large european estate engagement ring. The shank was thin, so the diamond and it's heads are original in gold, but the shank is replaced with platinum by Scott Kay.

I asked about your ring, because I was curious about the which designer you love and why. Personally, I am in love with Tacori designs.

  89. My order from 2 weeks ago finally came yesterday! They sent it regular mail....which is weird b/c they always send my stuff UPS. Maybe b/c they were doing free shipping???

  90. Ursula: To be honest, I haven't checked the J.Crew website as often as I use to. I don't know this for sure, but I don't think J.Crew will have its sale section updated for another week until its website issues are resolved. But again, this is just what I believe (and its based on nothing substantial). :)

Haus_Frau: That is awful about your order. I always look so forward to getting packages- I think it would be terrible to wait but not know for sure if it was coming or not. I hope J.Crew sorts this out for you!

Anonymous at 1:50 PM: Another awful story about an order from J.Crew. You and your husband are absolutely right- if this happened with any other retailer, we probably would not return to them. But because its J.Crew and we love them, we are willing to tolerate the situation a bit more.

jcrewbug: Thanks so much for reporting back what your store had on sale. That is super sweet of you!!! :)

Pink1: Congrats on receiving your order- that is great news! :)

  91. I really dislike the pics of the models in several different pieces of J.Crew clothing. It makes it more difficult to know which item is on sale at that particular price, without having to basically "read the fine print". I keep getting fooled over and over again (lab rat sydrome, I suppose) by them, especially the pic of the girl in the Elizabeth Halter with the 3" chino short for $24.99, which is actually $39.50 now, as the $25 "select" colors are all sold out...it fools me everytime, even though I know the halter wouldn't actually be $24.99...it goes back to the whole "giving false hope" issue...I just really like the old pics of ONE item when you KNEW for sure that was what was marked down at that price.

  92. Today I received three items I had ordered at the end of June. They each arrived in separate packages -- or shall I say brown paper bags -- but all on the same day. (You cannot convince me that this packaging is worth J. Crew shipping fees). I had only received shipping confirmation of one item, a pair of suit pants. One package contained a bikini top, the other bikini bottoms. Each included an invoice that confirmed I paid FULL PRICE. Each also included a big sticker labeld FINAL SALE, ITEM NOT RETURNABLE.

    Yeah.

I'm tired of J. Crew's nonsense. I think I shall now direct my disposable income toward pampering my new puppy :-).

    ReplyDelete
  93. Let me clarify that none of these items actually were on sale, final or otherwise, and that I do know how to spell but often make typos :-).

    ReplyDelete
  94. FFM; I agree completely...this issue was driving me crazy yesterday and I finally said to myself I am sick of looking and finding no colors left on sale:(
