ReplyDeleteIs it just me or are the JCrew telephone customer service being extremely rude lately? I have called multiple times this week with various questions and each time I have been turned down or given incorrect information all the while being treated extremely rudely (I'm talking heavy sighs on the other end, lack of responses, complete lack of interest, etc).
I'm curious to know if it's just me getting terrible treatment by the phone CS people.
I think that overall as a society we expect WAY to much of customer service people. We have come to expect snap, snap, maybe unrealistic service. These service people , due to the economy, are expected to handle twice the workload as they have in the past , longer hours , with very little pay. We need to be a little more patient and sympathetic.
DeleteIf they are giving you wrong responses that is terrible but understand they can only give you information the corporate headquarters is giving them. Perhaps the sighs are their frustration with this problem. Be very nice to these people. They have a hard job.

YES. I could not agree more. I think because J Crew usually is so lenient about making exceptions and applying discounts when they shouldnt, customers forget it is a favor and come to EXPECT it. It's not a requirement to fudge the rules, and it's not always possible. Sorry.
DeleteAs for the red phone people...I feel for them. Lots of people get worked up and rude when they're not having to actually face someone.
I have had nothing but great experiences with J.Crew CS lately, even when I haven't gotten what I wanted/needed. I do think good customer service is VERY hard to find these days, so I try to send an email or compliment when I come across it.

While I agree that good customer service reps can be hard to find, that's no excuse for rude behavior.

I loved the look of the Hologram Tweed jacket so much I thought I would give it a try, even at it's exorbitant price. I thought maybe it was just so lovely that the price was tolerable.
ReplyDeleteIt has some very nice things about it--the fabric is very interesting and beautiful, nubby and interwoven with metallic strips, the color is very nice and summery and the fabric composition of mostly cotton leaves it light and layerable.
However, the cut of the neck and shoulders was too matronly for me. I would have liked a little more shape to the jacket, either with seamimg or with a more cropped fit. Second, there was the price! I didn't see any justification for the high price. I could see this jacket costing maybe in the $300-range because of the unique and beautiful fabric, but no more.
I am a little relieved that I didn't love it.
Thx for the info. I was curious about it too. Would love to see an IRL pic of it because the pics on JC's site aren't very good.

You are so right, the fabric is gorgeous but the cut is too boxy. If it were more fitted it would be a winner. Such a shame. I'm not even sure a tailor could rework it.
DeleteMaybe the fabric is nicer IRL, but I think the pictures of the Hologram tweed skirt and jacket both look like they're made from bedspread or upholstery fabric.

ReplyDeleteI bought the Malta flat sandals during the last promotion. I absolutely loved them! This weekend, I wore them maybe the 3rd time. One of the little straps came out! I'm so upset that they're broken, now I don't know what to do with them!
ReplyDeleteSugarmagnolia, return them! If it's clear that the breakage is through defective material/workmanship and not from wear and tear (easily proven if you just bought them recently and soles are not too worn), JC should honour their quality statement and let you exchange for a replacement item.
DeleteShort-sleeved sweatshirt, gray. Don't put it in the dryer with heat! The directions say tumble low, but I didn't read the directions (it's a sweatshirt, right?). It shrunk a lot. I was able to pull it every which way and stretch it almost back to the original size. Next time I wash it, I am sure I can stretch it back to normal size while it's wet, but I will hang it dry from now on. Other than the need to baby it in the wash (!), I really like it.
ReplyDeleteI bought the Ankle Stretch Toothpick Jean in White Denim back in March, and I HATE the way they have worn in. After a few hours, the butt sags and really noticeable creases develop at the knee and crotch area. They look tired and sloppy, which is the last thing you want in a skinny jean. I'm either going to turn mine into shorts or donate to Goodwill.

DeleteOT, but there were a bunch of new arrivals in the Buffalo, NY store yesterday. There were several "heart" sweaters -- they looked like Tippi sweaters with big hearts in the middle of the sweater. In a few different colorways. There was also a blue and white (silk?) striped pleated skirt (horizontal thick, rugby stripes, vertical (obviously) pleats)). There was a pencil skirt (possibly mini) with huge anchors on it. I haven't noticed any of these items on the website.
ReplyDeleteI saw those things in the Memphis store today too. Along with a cinnamon colored double serge, a gorgeous printed linen tunic with a peachy color, white and navy. They had it paired with the peach color of cafe capris- I wish now I would have tried it on. It was $118. Also spotted a chambray shirt with tiny white polka dots on it.

It is very similar to that corilyn skirt. It was shorter than the painted rope skirt. Definitely hit above the knee. But it looks like a similar material.
DeleteI don't remember the price -- either $89 or $128. (I know that's a big difference, but there were two things that I was considering and those were the prices of each). I didn't end up getting it, but its on my wishlist. It was very cute.

DeleteI tried it on today and it was a thin silk and too short for me, but cute and I like the pockets. The painted rope skirt is much thicker, and much better quality IMO. I think this one will make it to sale.

DeleteI don't know why I never noticed these before, but I LOVE those featherweight cotton cardigans. I bought pretty much every color when they went down to $29 in my store. At that price I think they're a great basic at a good price.

Deletesue bolster.....I just received the Italian Calf Edie Attache bag on Saturday. I ordered it during the last 30% sale for $279.99. I got it because a wonderful SA named Lauren searched stores and found me one. Apparently they took more orders for it then they had and they called me at home and asked if I still wanted it and said they would try to get it. Well they did and I'm so happy! I love the size (not too big or too small for me), simple square shape, minimal hardware, short double handle with a detachable shoulder strap that is attached with an attractive toggle on the end of the chain that goes through a metal grommet ring on the side of the purse. The "leopard" print is perfectly placed with the darker part of the print vertical on back and front under the closure tab. It's a beautiful bag. It's a classic and looks very rich. I plan on dressing it up, but also wearing it with a turtleneck and jeans.
ReplyDeleteDon't do like I did and ignore the care tag for the Drapey stripe tee. Actually, I didn't read it at all, assuming that a knit tee would be okay in the washing machine. It shrunk up pretty bad after washing and drying, and THEN I read that it is supposed to be hand-washed and air-dried lying flat (which is pretty ridiculous if you ask me). Anyway, I think I got it stretched back out okay enough to be wearable, but I will definitely never put it in the washer again!
ReplyDeleteThe factory perfect shirt in linen is quite nice, and less than a third of the price of the non-factory one right now ($24.50 vs $79.50). I have both versions, and the most noteable difference is that the factory one is a heavier weight linen. This is probably good wrinkle-wise (i.e. heavy linen is probably less likely to wrinkle) but it's not as cool and summery as the non-factory one.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence about whether to keep the factory one in modern red. It's nice, but I'm starting to think I may be acquiring too many very bright colors that might not get that much wear. Casablanca blue looks very pretty though, and white is probably the most wearable of all.
(By the way, size 0 in the regular version fits about the same as XS in factory).

Linen short in safari cat: Nice heavier weight linen makes these nice to dress up or down and these seem like they would withstand wrinkling more than a lightweight material. As much as I loved how these looked on, I could not get passed how uncomfortable I was wearing them. Something with the fit or material just made me feel off...plus, I noticed a few of the pairs I picked up had seams that were already coming apart. Bummer…but if you like these, my store had a ton left and marked down to $29.99 plus the additional 30%.
ReplyDeleteAnchor popover hoodie: LOVE! To me, this is my favorite anchor piece in the collection. It fits TTS, is comfortable without looking too sloppy, and oh so cute. I like that the anchor is embroidered too. I’ve always been a fan of J.Crew sweatshirts and loungewear and this is no expectation. I cannot stomach the price of $80 though…so wait I will.
Workwear shirtdress: Great basic dress and good one for fall, but since the buttons are spaced somewhat far apart , I had some major gaping between the buttons, which seems to be an issue for me anyways with certain J.Crew items. Took my normal dress size 4, which fit perfectly everywhere but the bust area…but not sure a 6 would solve much of it. So a heads up to anyone who sometimes has that dreaded gaping problem like me. And this could be a bit short for tall girls since it was a above the knees for me at 5’3.

suebolster - I have been wearing 6 in JC bottoms as of late, but the 8 fit best in the safari cat shorts when I tried both sizes on. They sit a little higher on the waist. Even if I wasn't postpartum, I probably would have sized up because my waist is not notably narrower than my hips.
DeleteI'd say they are TTS to small. I took my normal 6, which is what I wear in the chino short and they fit, but a tad snug in the rear since there really don't stretch much. And gigiofca makes a good point that these do sit higher on the waist, so if that tends to be an issue, I would consider sizing up.
DeleteI would have loved to try on an 8...may have solved some fit problems for me.
I tried the bateau trench dress/coat and it felt like a stiff lab coat on me. I really wanted to like it (big buttons! crisp summer white!) but it brought out too many scientist fantasies. It runs a bit big/wide -- I could've sized down one size for a better fit.

I got the printed canvas Viv flats yesterday, the ones that look like python. I had seen a lot of reviews of the patent Viv flats which recommended 1/2 size up, so I did that with these as well. That turned out well.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these shoes. The toe box is wide enough no pinching or rubbing. They are very comfortable. I haven't found a pair of J. Crew flats that are comfortable so this is a revelation. The print is gorgeous and well done. These are not trendy, I'll wear them for years, or as long as the canvas holds out!
