20% Off J.Crew Sweaters {happy cyber monday!}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Casual-Crew (in this post), AnneG, & Marietta, who let us know the following offer.

J.Crew is offering 20% off select women's full-priced sweaters (click here to shop women's online) *and* 20% off select men's full-priced sweaters (click here to shop men's online). This offer ends 12/2/09.

As far as Cyber-Monday promotions go, I think this is it for J.Crew (which isn't too exciting as far as deals go). Oh well! At least my wallet is happy ...for now. ;)

Will you be taking advantage of the sweater promotion? Are there any sweaters you are interested in getting? Where you expecting any other deals from J.Crew, this Cyber-Monday? :)

  1. We've had 20% off tees, shoes and now sweaters. What is next? bags? denim?

  2. No new sweaters for me this time. :) I'm a little surprised they didn't offer 20% off the new arrivals instead of just sweaters...that would have been a better Cyber Monday deal, IMO.

  3. I think it's pathetic, but i'm not going to "revenge shop" with other retailers who are offering fantastic deals. I'll just be content with the items I picked during the 20% off promo, namely the tissue stone tee which arrives today. I'm determined to make it work. Oh, I was able to get an adjustment on a jackie that I purchased last week.

  4. Banana Republic has 20% off EVERYTHING PLUS free shipping on any purchase. "Our gift to you".

JCrew's offer is really pathetic. Shouldn't they be trying to make up for last year's mess.

Woke up very disappointed. But, then again Mickey's GOAL is no price reductions or promos ever...

  5. summer, I was pretty upset, too and I refuse to pay full price on Cyber Monday or any time in the near future. Yes, I have my panties in a bunch.

    ReplyDelete
  6. bleh... well, i did pull the trigger on this one. i ordered the cashmere v neck cardi in light berry, which is presently back ordered, as well as the new ombre dots cardi. very excited about not having to pay full price for these pieces, but... not really an impressive promo for the season, when i take a gander at the e-mails and coups i've been receiving from other comparable brands. as always, i am thankful the free shipping. i would really like to see promos for the new additions, or for winter accessories.. or knits AGAIN, i loved that promo.

& i must say, $34.50 is a pretty pathetic sale price for JAMMIE BOTTOMS. lol.

  7. I ordered the Fair Isle cardigan on Thursday and I got notice that it shipped on Saturday and expect to receive it this week...think CS would honour the current 20% promo discount on my order?? Should I even bother asking?

    ReplyDelete
  8. whoops, forgot to add- since this is a promo, would the student/educator discount not apply? still trying to sort out the policy :P

    ReplyDelete
  9. Molly,
It is not supposed to apply--only full priced items- but you might get lucky. Some people have but I have not ever had this happen.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Bummer. I was expecting something bigger and more interesting. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  11. molly-
you should be able to use the student discount on the sweater promo since it doesn't end in .99 but you can't use the student discount if you use the free shipping code.

student discount can't be used when you use a code that applies to your entire order (free shipping, 20% your entire order...) just remember that it can still be used on promotions on select items.

    hth!

    ReplyDelete
  12. ashley,
My online PS said I could not use my educator's discount with this promo or any items marked down in any way no matter what number they end in.... even on promo items --(and that was NOT using a free ship code either.)

  14. Weak sauce, JC. I know "cyber Monday" isn't a real holiday, but come on! The 20% off plus free ship that ended last night was better than this. I guess it was a pipe dream to hope for a HOHOHO type promo or even a decent sale update. Nope, I won't be ordering anything from JC today.

    ReplyDelete
  15. FYI: Eddie Bauer has 25% off and free shipping no minimum

    ReplyDelete
  16. Summer-
Your PS may have told you otherwise but when I inquired to contactus@jcrew.com they said this,
"Because we feel that the value we are offering our customers on markdown styles is better than ever, the college & teacher discount may no longer be applied to styles on markdown/clearance. This discount will continue to be available to college students & teachers on all full price and promo styles. Please note: the price of markdown/clearance merchandise will end in .99."

It's always worth a try to keep calling even when someone denies you. You'll probably luck out and get a different cs. You don't have anything to lose..

I've ordered during w/ my student discount during the denim promo and knit & tees promo.

    hth!

  17. I agree with FFM...20% off new arrivals or just a 20% off anything would have been a better deal...I'm passing on this one...better deals elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm wondering why some of the sweaters are gone??? Why does J.Crew remove some items during the promo? Doesn't make sense at all!

    ReplyDelete
  19. And of course, they have prices as marked.. I got excited for a while thinking the 20% applies on already reduced prices...But it never goes down that well, does it? I didn't order anything last week since the sale section was not too appealing. I was thinking maybe the next promo would be a good one given the thanksgiving week and cyber monday..No orders for me this time too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. There are a few J.Crew things I'd like to buy for my boyfriend for the holidays, but this isn't really the enticement I was hoping for. My cart is full -- come on J.Crew! Maybe a teensy promotion on all full-priced stuff? Pretty please?

    ReplyDelete
  21. To answer my own question, just got off the phone with JC customer service and they made the price adjustment for the Fair Isle cardigan I ordered last week.

    YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  22. No, I won't be shopping today. I spent a couple hours going through my boxes and bins at Manhattan Mini Storage yesterday, and I can verify that I already own enough sweaters to clothe several people!

For those who are shopping, I highly recommend the cashmere hoodies. I bought the zippered version in black, navy and grey a couple years ago and I'm surprised at how much I've worn them. I added the snow color to my collection about a month ago, along with the grey and camel pullover hoodies (which are now out of stock).

  23. Off topic, but did anyone else see what looks like spring items in their J.Crew this weekend? I was out of town and only had time to run into the J.Crew to buy a gift.

On my way out I noticed a table of what looked like long sleeve t's in a bright rosy pink, vivid grass green, and poppy red. Very similar to the colors in the spring 2010 lookbook.

I wish I had taken time to look because they aren't online and my local J.Crew doesn't have them.

  24. I think I may get some of the men's sweaters for Hubby's Xmas presents...there are a few that he likes.

Can any of our male JCAs comment on the fit of either the Fine Lambswool or the Coastal Cable Pullover sweaters? Are they TTS, generous, slim...?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ashley,

Glad to hear you got the reduced price. My online PS just said, "No, that is not the policy." when I called her now but I can always try and not order through her. THanks for the post.

I once had an email about the educator's discount applying long ago and I was told the email was wrong and the person did not know what they were typing. That was last fall.

Just sharing my experience as well.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Clicquot: Male JCA here. I own 3 lambswool sweaters (08 Burgundy crewneck, 09 Grey vneck, 09 Navy vneck) all in size Small. I'd say they fit somewhere between slim and TTS. They fit me well. I'm 5'6", 140, athletic build.

The 08 crewneck has served me well over the past year or so, I've worn it pretty frequently and it still looks good as new. The fabric is soft and warm with a nice heft to it. The 09 vnecks have the perfect amount of space for ties, not too short, not too long.

Overall, I'd say the lambswool sweaters are the best value of the various sweater materials that JC offers for guys.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks, Quiet Nights...I think I'll get one for Hubby -- the colours are so nice, and worth a try based on your review :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Emailed the CS and below is the message I just received.

"We regret to inform you that our student discount cannot be combined
with any other discount or promotion. It can only be used on full priced
merchandise. We apologize for any disappointment."

Guess some people are just lucky to encounter the SA that who are probably not that knowledgeable and were able to give the student/teacher discount on the promo items. I did try it when they had the 20% off shoes promo... twice! Didn't work!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Summer: CS documents everything, CS even told me when I asked and received the last courtesy.

No I will not be ordering today, and I did not order last week either.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jean,

Yes, that is what I was told too and that is what it states on the website re: the discount.

Thanks for checking and getting another opinion out there!

    Casual-Crew,

Thanks for your post too. Also, we seem to be experiencing the same feelings with JC lately. I cannot get to a store either...

    ReplyDelete
  31. For the first time in a long time I have nothing in my shopping cart and I don't have an order en route. I'll be stopping in to the B&M at Lenox next week but I'm looking forward to Madewell and other stores more than J.Crew. Got those few things I wanted and nothing else of interest right now, not even the new arrivals. Really loving my rosebud and sapphire tweed skirts though. The double-serge pencils too. Would definitely buy more along those lines. Boring, I know. But that's all I like lately.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Weak J Crew. I have 30% off from Tory Burch, 40% off from Lands End, 40% off Ann Taylor, 30% off Lucky Brand, 20% off BR, 40% off Cole Haan, 30% off Endless and the list goes on and on... and all with free shipping. My $$ is going elsewhere this year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is anyone even able to use this code? I tried to use it for the dream turtleneck sweater and it said the code HOLIDAY doesn't apply....

  35. It's not JCrew, but for all you shoppers complaining about weak sales...

    Try Loehmann's! http://bit.ly/clearance-save

They are having a clearence blowout this week and the sales are huge! Through Thursday, December 3rd... every clearance item is priced at $5 & $10 for savings of up to 96% off department store prices!

    Examples of the savings:
    Dept. stores’ price: $48
    Loehmann’s original price: 19.99
    Loehmann’s clearance price: 14.98
    You pay $5

    It's nuts.. but very beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Stephanie,

Not sure of your order amount but HOLIDAY only works if you order is $150 or more.

Try the SHIP125 if your order is $125 or more

The sweater price is as posted online at JC. Already marked down the 20%.

    ReplyDelete
  37. PS

The codes are for free shipping that I listed.

  38. Laura --> I've got the Fair Isle sweater arriving this week, I'll give you a review.

I called CS to get the % of the blends, and it's 45% acrylic, 37% alpaca and 18% merino wool. I don't mind some acrylic in a sweater...we'll see how this one measures up.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I almost pulled the trigger this morning on some sweaters, but I will not be ordering with this promo. The acrylic content in sweaters really is putting me off for the price of the sweaters.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I won't be ordering sweaters from J.Crew again. The cashmere has issues ans does the merino. I'm wearing my Maya cardi today. This is the second time I have worn it. It is all pilled along the side and arms. I feel like a wreck and keep picking the pills off at work like a baboon picks off bugs.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I no longer buy JC cashmere - so many issues with it last year! (is it ANY better this year?) And based on the JC reviews on the poor quality of the Maya - I returned the two I had ordered right away. Bummer cos it is such a pretty sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Does anyone have the fair isle? I can't pull the trigger since it's largely acrylic. I'd love the opinion of someone who owns it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Mena, the lovely Shannon of Wardrobe Review did a review of the Fair Isle sweater on her blog: http://www.wardrobereview.com/2009/11/24/j-crew-vintage-fleur-stardust-skirt-fair-isle-gypsy-rose-cami/

This is one lame sale. Why not 20% off everything? Good grief, it's Cyber Monday!!! I have been coveting the Asymmetrical chiffon bow pullover in the navy/cream striped version. But alas, that version is not on the web-site today (coincidence? of course not) I'm tired of J. Crew's silly games, so I let my mouse crawl over to Banana Republic, where I picked up a few cute knit tops at 20% off w/ free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  44. JKW--Thank you so much! Worst fears confirmed, I'm afraid.

I agree--it's a lot of work to shop at JCrew these days. I'm just not feeling the love.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Not the least bit interested in this boring offer, esp. as I think sweaters are where j.crew's quality has declined the most - won't waste money again on a dream sweater, and their cashmere is only worth a chance deeply, deeply discounted. ... But a big thanks to all on here who have talked up lands end - got three new sweaters from there, incl. cashmere, this weekend, on 40% off. Lovely colors, and quality that's 100% backed. Love that there are thick, cotton sweaters available. I know those in Florida like j.crew's whisper-thin offerings, but like Sarah Palin can see Russia from her backyard, so I can with Canada - and that means warm woolen sweaters.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I didn't order last week and I'm not ordering this week. I'm over the high prices and blah colors.

Today I'm wearing my $40.50 scoop neck cashmere sweater from Lands End. I love it and I know it won't fall apart or get holes in it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. La Belle Helene: I don't care for the whisper thin cardigans, either, and I live in Florida, as you know. :) I really cannot stand to see the shirt I'm wearing under a cardigan showing THRU the cardigan, especially if it's printed or a darker color, such as black under an ivory cardigan. I picked up an Ivory cardigan at Kohls a few weeks ago for $13 and am surprisingly still shocked each time I put it on and my shirt underneath DOESN'T show through because the cardigan is thick and substantial...even prints and a black shirt don't show through. I guess I've become so accustomed to the paper thin cardis at J.Crew that I am now amazed when I have one that actually *works* the way a cardigan is supposed to. :)

OT: Count me in as one of those who just received the November catalog with the Free Shipping coupon that expired November 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mena- I agree with you.. it really is a lot of work to shop at J crew. I have begun to read the fabric description labels on their items, a lot, because I dont see myself paying those huge prices for stuff like acrylic and bare minimum threadcount.

    ReplyDelete
  49. While I would love another jackie cardi, I can't justify buying something else just to get the free shipping. And, I also got the catalog today with fs that ends November 1. :( Plus, I really want the reindeer tee and it's been gone for several days now. What's up with that?!

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's kinda sad and amazing that JC is making Nordstroms look affordable!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I used my student/educator discount at the outlet last weekend and everything was marked down from the outlet price. I asked just in case and was shocked...the lady said that the student/educator discount is good on everything except clearance. It was awesome, since I was already getting stuff at the outlet pricing, then reduced for the holiday.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey Summer, Ashley, Emily - The student/educator discount is only good in-store, right?

    ReplyDelete
  53. yowza- you can use it on online orders by emailing your order # to contactus@jcrew.com w/ your school email and they'll refund you the difference once it ships out. You can also use it on phone orders too so that they can discount the price before you pay. hth! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm a fan of Lands' End cashmere sweaters, too. Today wearing a Lands' End ivory cashmere fair isle crewneck sweater. I bought it on clearance for only $59.99. The sizes are limited, but it's still available online.

Also, if anyone is interested, Steve Madden has 35% off and free shipping today. The code is: Cyber35. I ordered the Melin black leather wingtips that I posted a few days ago. I like the brown, too, but my size is sold out.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ack! Thanks ashley! I've been ordering online and by phone for years (and I've been a student waaayy too long!). Thanks for letting me know!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I ordered from Ann taylor (40% off entire purchase and FS) and from Ann taylor loft (30% off entire purchase and FS) and from OldNavy/Banana (20% off entire purcahse and FS).

NOT ONE THING FROM J.CREW. Sorry. Used to shop exclusively at JC, now finding better deals for similar and better quality stuff elsewhere.

Also - I had ordered a Jcrew tee, can't remember the name, it was a shell color, v neck with short sleeves, with flower/beads on the chest/shoulder area. It was on sale, 14.99, originally like $40.
At least 3 beads, that I can find so far, fell off the FIRST WEARING.

    Returned. Boo j.crew.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks, Heidi. I just contacted the Steve Madden customer service and she told me they haven't received any negative feed-back about the sizing, so she recommended I keep with my usual size. I really hope they fit because I don't want to deal with exchanging them. It's strange that stevemadden.com doesn't have any half sizes in those shoes, either.

  60. Just out of curiosity, I received my December catalog today and just like last year it has embossed and slightly raised lettering on the front. Is everyone's catalog like this? The ones I saw in-store did not have it. I'm not on J.Crew's mailing list anymore, one of their reps has been nice enough to hand-mail me the last 4 catalogs.

    ReplyDelete
  61. math teacher, I am also feeling the pull of another Jackie but the two twinsets I bought this fall feel very different and are really prone to snags even though I'm super careful with my sweaters. The composition listed on the tag is the same as the spring Jackies:

    66% cotton
    29% nylon
    5% spandex

For some reason though, the fall ones feel less like cotton and more synthetic than ever and did I mention the snags? I have 3 snags in one shell after a single wearing and don't have a clue how that happened. :(
I might chalk it up to an anomaly with a specific color but I bought both pink frost and dried orchid twinsets this fall and all four pieces have snags. None of my previous Jackie's have snags and I wear them a lot in sets and as separates. I hope it's just a fluke this fall because unlike others I cannot replace with Land's End as I don't find the fit to be anywhere near as flattering. It's too bad because the fabric, construction and colors at LE are really nice, they are just too boxy compared to the J.Crew Jackie. What's a gal to do? Wait until spring and try again I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Laura & Heidi, in spite of the sizing advise I received from their customer service rep, I cancelled the size 9 shoes at Steve Madden. I read the sizing conversion information on their website, and it sounds like their size 10 is equal to a 9 or 9 1/2 everywhere else. Steve Madden didn't have a size 10 (omg... a size TEN!) in the color I wanted, so I reordered at Amazon and paid $10 more. At least they were eligible for Amazon Prime 2 day shipping. Hopefully these fit because Amazon returns are a PIA, too.

  66. Shuluvr

I really appreciate your post about the Jackies this year. I was set to order a twinset in the dried orchid, but now I may hold off. Such a great price though *whining now*

    ReplyDelete
  67. OMG--I thought that was me, ShuLvr!!

I got the exact same 2 colors in the jackie cardigan and the fabric felt so different that I compared them to my old ones to check the content (thinking-great they've messed with a good thing) but it didn't appear to have changed. In fact, it was exactly the same but I still thought something was off...like it was a "drier" feel?? Hard to describe but I had the same concern about the snagging due to the new texture. I haven't worn mine yet but when I do if I find it's a problem, I am taking it back. Let me know you read this..I am kind of fascinated with this. Something has GOT to be different now and that is rather disappointing.
