Madewell Email: The plaid shirt, reinvented

"Thanks!" to Marietta who shared the email Madewell sent yesterday.

The email features the Silk Boyshirt which is described as "a cool boy-meets-girl look– you'll love the oversize fit and luxuriously soft feel" and retails for $110. This look is completed with the Ruffle-Back Sweater Vest ($68), Slim Slouch Jeans in Ore Wash ($110), and Cascade Necklace ($98).
The email also lets us knowt that Madewell has its very own Holiday Gift Guide & Wishlist for 2009 (click here to look).

What are your thoughts on the Silk Boyshirt? Are you a fan of the oversize style of the shirt? What are your thoughts on the items selected for their gift guide? :)

  1. OK. I guess I just need to dig into the depths of my closet or basement totes and pull out an oversized silk shirt from the early 90's or a plaid one from the late 80's. Yep, I still have both saved....and for the price of this one at Madewell (yikes!) no one would ever know the difference! LOL

  2. Did you guys notice (I may be late to the party on this one) that there's a bunch of Madewell stuff for sale on the J Crew website? For example, the Madewell Plaid shirtdress?

  3. I'm just not that into the Madewell stuff. Abercrombrie&Fitch and American Eagle already exist. Do we really need Madewell?

  4. Not a fan of the oversized look- it just seems too sloppy for my frame. I think it's cute on others, though!

Kate- thanks for the reminder! I wish I had a Madewell close by to make easy returns if needed. I'm traveling to CT and DC over Thanksgiving...maybe I should take a chance....

  5. I don't know if you guys are being fair. Oversized and plaid is nothing special, but where have you ever seen a silk one? I'm sure it's a nice matte silk, not satin like in the 90s. I wouldn't wear it myself, but only because I don't wear button down shirts in general.

  6. My shirt is a nice matte evergreen silk from the 90's. I never saw a single shiny silk shirt and I lived through both the 80's and 90's--but I won't say my current age.

  7. Yes, the silk shirt I have from the 90's (like Summer) is a matte silk and really very pretty. It is definitely oversized though...

  8. What my daughter (and I) like about Madewell is that they make great basics(sweaters, tees, jeans) with no logos. Everything at AE and Abercrombie and Fitch has an eagle and whatever AF's logo is prominently sewn on the item. We just keep our eyes out for sales but I know I will be doing some serious Christmas shopping there!

  9. I love Madewell. In my opinion, it is in no way smilar to American Eagle or Abercrombie. Those stores were made for juniors not women. And I have never seen real silk at AE or A&F; their stuff is much cheaper in quality. I like to shop at women's stores with better quality that fit my body better. = )
