J.Crew Email: INSIDER SALE . 20% off your order of $150+. 3 days and online only.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including HeidiG, Athena, Stephanie, Marietta, as well as JBird (in this post), who shared the following email J.Crew sent this morning.

J.Crew is offering 20% off purchases of $150+ with promo code INSIDER. This offer is expires 11/18/09 and is available online only.

Incidentally, this morning the sale section updated with a decent amount of stock, including several pop-backs from last winter. Most of the good stuff is gone now. However, I think the next few weeks there will be a decent sale section as the sale merchandise from brick & mortar (B&M) stores are making its way back to J.Crew's distribution centers.

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any items you are interested in getting?

  1. Can anyone explain why certain items (like the cashmere v-neck sweater) will show up in the sales section in a few colors but the price isn't reduced? That sortof made sense when the offer was 20% off sale items, but since this one is 20% anything, should I take this as a mistake and trust they'll lower the price later today?

  2. OK I had the exact same question as Lauren - when they put only a couple of colors in the sale section that usually means they ie those colors, are on sale (vs just full price with 20% off $150). I hope they fix this. They added 2 cashmere styles I want, but not at full price....

  3. Just placed my first order - some sale items that popped back and the chimera jacket for about half what I paid for it a week ago! Thanks for posting Alexis - I never get JCrew emails until the evening so I would have missed out! :) Now off to browse full price....

  4. Thanks for the updates, they are so helpful. I will finally get my winter coat since it wasn't in the outerwear sale a few weeks back. Although with the sale being online only you don't get the full 20% off because you then spend $20 of your savings on shipping. But I won't complain too much. I can at least get no sales tax by shipping to my parents house in wv and pick up over Thanksgiving.

  5. I think the update may have happened while I was accessing the site. I was really surprised, as Alexis mentioned, to see a lot of popbacks, including the jackets that were "swept" from the site a few weeks ago. I managed to get a summer dress for something crazy like 88% off. Let's just hope in arrives NWT. I'm stalking a jacket but typically miss updates with all the chaos in my household in the morning.

Yes, I agree that it seems we are back to sales at JC, and hopefully the popbacks will continue!

I will be taking advantage of the 20% off before Wednesday (esp. since I finally have FS on my account). I'll probably have hubby get my Xmas gifts a bit early with this promotion!

Thanks to Mack for yesterday's post about LE Canvas. I was really disappointed in JC's summer offerings, and LE looks like it will be my new source for these. Does anyone understand why they are selling spring and summer stuff in November?

  6. Oooh, I wish I could take advantage but my spending budget doesn't allow until my next paycheck. I am excited to hear what others get from this promotion!!

  7. Thanks so much for the Promo code! I always check here before placing an order because I too don't receive emails from J Crew until the evening.

Kinda confused as to why J crew doesn't have consistent pricing myself - was going to order the Frances shirt in Moroccan blue, but alas, it's no longer "on sale"??

Anyways, snapped up the Joley crackle metallic pumps as I guess they were a pop back and they only had my size. *Sigh* guess it was meant to be....Also got the colorblock cardigan. Have placed way too many orders here lately.

  8. I wish they give free shipping as well! I just placed 2 orders separately this morning & asked for free shipping since the FS coupons that I received were 2 months late! They won't give me a code though and I have to place the orders over the phone.

  9. I placed an order for some crewcuts last night: the adidas sneakers, a dark wash jean and two cotton cashmere sweaters. I called customer service and they gave me a credit for the 20%.

Of course, I then had to place another order for the flannel trousers I wasn't quite willing to buy at $90 and a lambswool cardi.

Along with the gapkids order from last week, Kit should be set for a while.

I do want the argyle vest and the claret cashmere sweater for him, but even at 20% off that is kind of steep for J Crew cashmere for a child.

  10. If this offer was 20% off and free shipping I might bit. Otherwise, it is a definite pass due to JCrew's high shipping costs.

The Facebook codes were great while they lasted. I took advantage of a couple of them.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I reordered the items that I just purchased on Friday since I have FS on my account - the 20% off definitely helps!

    ReplyDelete
  12. OK, I just placed an order for a few items using the 20% off. Thanks for the code. I wish it had free shipping too, but I saw a couple pop-backs that I wanted, and I had a credit from a few things I just returned (that I'd taken a chance on earlier using all the free shipping, but didn't fit). I love getting all the coupons off this site.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This just isn't that good of a deal given the astronomical shipping costs. For example: a $118 skirt with free shipping = $118. With 20% off, it's $94.40 + $12.50 shipping = $106.90, so wow, a savings of $11.
Boden, meanwhile, just sent me an email for 15% off plus free shipping & returns.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I placed an order and got the Free shipping too- I was suprised but all I did was log into my account- so worth a try?? Scored some cute Crewcuts things for my daughter and the crinkle shirt for me:)

  15. I splurged and bought the Campo Tote in slate! I've been needing a nice tote for carrying work folders and other work-related stuff. I love the slate color, which will go with everything. Can't wait for Mr. UPS Man to knock on my door with this package! Thanks, Alexis, for posting the promotions -- your blog is always my first stop for everything J. Crew!

  16. i only took part in this promo b/c i had free shipping on my account. otherwise i would have passed too! i picked up the asymmetrical bow pullover, striped dolce sweater, and some black patent juliets. i wish more colors of the frances was on sale.. i missed out on that promo last week!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Free shipping and this % off would be tempting, but I don't have FS on my account...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Woohoo! Was just about to place an order; glad I checked good old JCA first b/c I hadn't received this email yet. I ordered the sylvia heels in black and gold. I normally wear an 11 and had to order a 12 b/c it says size up a half size. Hopefully they will not be falling off my feet. I imagined the 11s would be painfully small like some of the juliets. I also got a few recent sale section additions that were $40 each with the 20%--collier top in ivory and ethereal merino v-necks in black and buff pink. Also scored the midnight roses dress for $80--it may be too small but since it's returnable I could take the chance. I have FS on my account this time around (didn't get it last time), so it was a nice deal. Thanks J.Crew!

  19. I really, really want the Stadium cloth Friday coat in Heather Gray, but I'm still hoping the price will go down in a couple of weeks. I hope I don't regret not buying it now, but even with the discount, it's still almost $300.

    ReplyDelete
  20. i picked up another perfect pencil skirt, this time in gray. i need something a little more versatile that the fresh plum one i already have.

everyone keep their fingers crossed that the little j.crew shipping fairies have this to my house by thursday. i have an event that night i'd like to wear it to. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. OK ladies, do we think they'll do anything better over Thansgiving? I really want to order a coat but as other people have said 20% off without free shipping is not really a great deal. What do we think???

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lauren S, I want that coat too! :)

Looked like there was a significant update (600+ items) this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Forgot to mention that I got free shipping on the Campo tote order by logging into my account. Otherwise, I would have passed on the INSIDER deal altogether. Free shipping PLUS 20% is a very attractive deal, especially when you're wanting something rather high-priced, like a handbag or a coat.

  24. Has anyone out there had the pleasure of trying on the tattered silk-cotton tank (20036)? Hot mess or a collectible beauty? If so, how does it fit? TTS? I saw one lucky lady try it on when she was a the collection party, but there is no link provided to her. It looked awesome on her IRL. I was thinking of ordering it while the 20% off was going on but wanted to know about sizing first. I don't really trust J Crew's over-the-phone measurements.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  25. A tad off topic but what is J.Crew's adjustment policy (I forget)? If it is 14 days could you snag a lower price on the larger ticket items if they go cheaper than the price plus 20% off right after Thanksgiving? Or am I incorrect?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Unfortunately no free shipping for me, but the boiled wool regalia sweater jacket popped back up this morning and I received a gift card for my birthday on Saturday, so the 20% off code was enough to convince me to order.

    ReplyDelete
  27. JenLynn, you can only get a PA if you paid full price on the item to begin with. So if you initially used a 20% off code they won't do an adjustment if it goes cheaper after that. If you have FS you could always reorder the item and return the first one, though. That's what I did last week b/c I couldn't get a PA.

    ReplyDelete
  28. JKW: Congrats on the Campo- love it, but can't splurge right now.

Boston Brit: who knows? If you can wait, I would think the sales would get better & better?

I picked up the Jules Pearlized Patent Heels in Warm Brick. I've been eyeing these since day one with a love/lust I haven't felt in a while. We'll see how they fit!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 7 days price adjustment policy on full priced items only.

    ReplyDelete
  30. No I will not be ordering, if there was fs I would be tempted.

    ReplyDelete
  31. YAY, exactly what I was waiting for before I ordered a jacket & coat!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I got my Chimera jacket in navy blue. It is just gorgeous and the fit is great. I do not like the bracelet lenght sleeves though. Looks like the jacket arm length is just too short on me. I know certain fashionistas would realize this but not the general population. Undecided on it for that reason only. The fabric and "ruffle" are very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Summer, is that true? I can call for a price adjustment for a full priced item? I ordered $400. last Friday and the cashmere sweater was full priced. I'm absolutely kicking myself right now, that's $80. I threw out the window. I'm figuring out what I want now but I would feel better if I at least got a small adjustment!

Crew Cricket, you got the Jules on sale? So awesome!!! I paid full price but they are crazy pretty, I hope you love them. The photos never did them justice, the crystals on the toe are amber and catch the light beautifully!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've been following for a while now (and have been inspired by many of your ideas) but haven't posted yet. Does anyone have the gunmetal matelasse skirt? Is it appropriate for post-holiday wear?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Laura,

So glad you like your Jules- thanks for the encouragement. This is a major splurge for me (even on sale) so thanks for the support!

  36. Somehow I got lucky enough to get free shipping for anything I order through 11/22, so each morning whe I get up, I check the website and comb through the sale section. Since nothing is Final Sale, it's pretty risk free as I can return to one of two nearby B&M's. I placed an order early this am for several items and when I saw the new code (INSIDER) later in the day, I called CS and they immediately offered to apply the 20% disc to my order! They were very nice about it , too! i hope the Liberty Print ruffle placket blouse is on it's way, as well as a couple of pairs of Scout chinos!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Laura,
Make that call if the items you bought were full priced and not on sale or promo!!!!

  38. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!

They are getting even worse at this...

I had item 18963 in my cart last night(the Thomas Mason tuxedo shirt for women).
Lo and behold this morning with code insider, it has been removed from my cart. The problem with it not being online is I can't get the free shipping that I have through my account until the 22nd.
I first called the regular CS and got someone who told me that since the item was "limited quantity" and "in high demand" the 20% of insider code couldn't be applied!
I couldn't even believe they tried to use that rationalization with me! I explained that the disclaimer for the code only said not applicable towards previous purchases or retail or factory stores- nothing about not being applicable toward fast selling items. He then tried to tell me again since it was limited quantity and was selling so quickly, that's why he couldn't apply the code. He went and talked to a manager and came back to tell me that discounts could not be applied to any brands they had a partnership with. He refused to apply the discount. I then called the "special" number I got on the plastic card when I got the free earrings a month ago. You know the one supposedly from Mickey. The CSR that I got there also told me this was the policy, and when I asked when this started- all she could tell me was "about a month ago, in fact more than a month ago". I told her the coupon didn't say anything about this and I have never seen anything about this policy. She went and talked to her supervisor. I was on hold FOREVER before she came back and said her supervisor knew she had seen it online somewhere before, but they couldn't find it! She said instead of making me wait longer she would do it as a one time courtesy but "would never do it again". She then told me she would have to place it as a pre-sale (when this item has been out for months) and I would get the 20% credited BACK to my account. You can better believe I am going to check my statement thoroughly to make sure that actually happens.
BTW, There is NOTHING posted on the website about this policy, which has been going on "for definitely more than a month".

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree, its hard to be excited about the 20% off discount when you have to pay so much for shipping! I'm going to wait, hopefully there will be some kind of after-Thanksgiving sale!

I saw the Madeline coat from last winter on the sale section this afternoon- its so cute, if it was in my size I would have bought it!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry to keep posting about it,
but I went on the the website again and saw the Timex watch... added it to my bag, and there was the discount!
    They are so inconsistent.
If they don't want coupons to be applicable toward their collaboration items, they should state it in the disclaimer for the coupons.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Plus Sperry, Barbour, Belstaff, etc.
    Need I go on?
Code Insider works on all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  42. How are some of u getting free shipping for just logging into your JC acct?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kris - I have the gunmetal matelasse skirt, and I plan on wearing it throughout the colder winter months (probably through March), not just for the holidays. It's probably the main reason why I purchased this as opposed to the sequin skirt, which I feel is too dressy and only really good for the holidays/special occassion. This is a gorgeous skirt, and you can wear so many different shirts/sweaters with it. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I had the free shipping and monogramming offer when I logged into my account, but when I try to apply the off, the free shipping goes away. I called to ask about it and customer service said it is because only 1 promotion can be used at a time (free shipping OR 20% off). Has anyone had luck using both?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Marietta - Thanks! That was the encouragement I needed...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Susan,

It works for me to be able to do both. It looks like only one, but it is the 20% off and free ship. CS should honor it for you, the free ship through your account isn't a code (as you know) so you should still be able to apply a code and get the automatic free ship.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I did order a couple of things but have free shipping on my account right now, so it makes the discount much more worthwhile.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with a lot of others - I'm not going to bite on this one because no free shipping.

Ms. Ann Taylor, on the other hand, is going to have 2 orders from me in a week once F&F starts tomorrow because of 30% off and free shipping, plus a $25 savings card for every $50 FP.

I know JCrew is trying to position themselves as elite and exclusive, but it seems at least from here that people spending serious money with large orders are going elsewhere. And we would spend it at JC. I would love to see a breakdown of their sales and whether they are increasing because of large orders or lots of people buying a few items.

    ReplyDelete
  49. CheesyGoodness and others who have been talking about the CC jewelry: I just received my CC twisted pearl necklace ($24.50 FP) and I am over the moon. First off, I cannot believe they made this for little girls. It is fantastic and I think I will like it a lot better than the hammock in the long run-just enough twist and heft for petite me. I'll be continuing to raid the CC section (check out Summerilla's post on various items for girls and boys she tried out and rocked!)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Susan, I was able to get the free shipping automatically when I logged in, and then I entered the INSIDER code and it worked just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I went to my local shop where they didn't have the starlight silver glitter flats I wanted--they used the red phone and I got those and the Sirrah Silk Dress I was watching--I got the free shipping and the 20%--woot! :) Nat

  52. Can anyone review the Double-cloth Ingenue coat? I'm a pear shape and I don't know if it would look good on me. How does the sizing run?

Also, has anyone seen the Wool Lodge cardi IRL? I'm afraid it will add bulk (which I don't need!) Thanks!

I'm tempted by a few things, but I just don't know. It would be much more enticing if there was free s&h.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Happy, joy, my navy and white check shirt arrived and I love it. I haven't washed it but I got my regular size and it appears to have no gaps. It looks really good and the white is actually white which is what I look for! Definitely recommend!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thanks for the code!
I bought the dulce sequin skirt yay!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Corry, the twisted pearl looks so pretty! Great buy! I noticed it has a clasp, unlike the twisted seaweed, which rocks. I just got the shipping confirmation for my second crazy bead necklace so I'll be a happy JCA later this week.

  56. This "log in and get free shipping" - it's just by logging in to your account some of you are getting it, right? I've done it twice today and don't see anything about free shipping, grrr. FS and 20% off would be wonderful; otherwise, I'll take my business to AT, too, where I get 30% off and FS.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I know this is a little off topic, but I have a quick question. I wear XS in Jcrew, so what would I wear in ,AT or ATL? Is their sizing similiar, or bigger/smaller? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I tried getting the price adjustment on a full prized item ordered Friday and they would not apply the coupon. Said it only applied to items that went on sale, not to coupon items. That said, I did order the navy cashmere henley, which makes my third order in four days.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jenni-
My experience with AT/ATL is that they are cut a little more generously in the bust. I usually take a 12/M or L in the JCrew tops and wear a solid M at ATL. I think whether you want to size down depends on how much room you need :)

  60. Has anyone tried on the silk flair skirt in person? I'm wondering if it's slightly more a-line, or more little-girl-poofy. I love that redwood color.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I am thinking about buying a sweater with this offer but am not decided yet. I really want to get some cashmere in my wardrobe but refuse to pay full price for it!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I see the Maya is finally back in-stock! I love mine and maybe want to get it in another color.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Annika-
I have the double cloth ingenue coat and it runs pretty TTS, but I like coats a little big so I ordered up as I am kind of in between sizes anyway. It is a cute coat and I like the fabric a lot- textured double cloth- wears well. I got black- boring but basic!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jenni: In the past, I could depend on ATL being sized bigger than J.Crew--I always sized down. Nowadays, however, they are starting to run more tts imo. If you are a solid size xs in j.crew, I would stick with xs in ATL or try their xxs (if they have it). Not sure about AT...never shopped there.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I bought the mens Barbour jacket for 20% off but, I payed shipping. Still a great deal.. Barbour is never on sale in other retail stores. However in the mens section many of the "collection" items disappeared overnight.. I wonder if they will reappear 3 days from now once the promo is over?

    ReplyDelete
  66. AT changed their sizing this Fall. I have found that the pants fit slimmer than in the past and in some styles I went up a size from what I usually wear in J.Crew.

I would agree that the tops are a bit bigger in the bust for AT than for J.Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am glad many JCA's are discovering Ann Taylor. AT has been my mainstay for 10 years. It is timeless...I wore a years old AT suit today with a new J Crew silk top to many compliments.

I ordered a J Crew coat I'd been stalking today. Used the "INSIDER" 20% off code and my Holiday reward card for $25 and received free shipping through an agreement with a PS at my B&M store.

I think it is hit or miss with J Crew customer service. AT and Talbots remain my favorites. Both seem to appreciate their customers more on birthdays and often have offers of percentage off as well as fs.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sigh, I wish I could use this code, but I am all shopped out. Lots of things I "need" but nothing I *need*.

I'm glad they're offering it at the same time as the free ship promo (for those who were lucky enough to receive it).

  70. I've received the free shipping through logging in, but I'm not in need of anything, so I won't be taking advantage of this offer..well, at least today! ;)

Like others, I've been bitten by the Ann Taylor bug. I stopped by in store last week and purchased a boyfriend blazer for $99. Not sure if it's a keeper, as it's unlined in the back, but the wool and color are beautiful. Little known fact, back from my working days - Ann Taylor always tries to match up bolts of fabric season to season and they also try to keep their colors in the same hues from year to year. The idea is that you can build your wardrobe with their classic styling and not get burned by blazers/shirts/skirts/suits not complimenting each other. I can't speak of how this works in recent years, but in my 10 years in the workforce, back in the day, this turned out to be very accurate.

Received my fine gauge cotton sweaters from LE today and they are fabulous! Super well made (well sewn, buttons fastened well), thicker than my JC Jackies. I ordered my regular size in petite, but yesterday ordered one size smaller, to see if the fit is a little slimmer. Even if they don't work, I'm still keeping one set of these babies. They were a "St. Nick's Special" last night...so 2 sweaters for $47 ($25 each with free shipping thrown in). Wow! (ETA: corrected the 25% F&F discount...it wasn't valid on already discounted offers)

    ReplyDelete
  71. ^^ sorry, it was 2 sweaters for $43.75...one of these days I'll get it right! Also, the beautiful red grape color (similar to JC's warm burgandy color) is on sale for $26.99 now.

    ReplyDelete
  72. audball, thanks for the heads up on the LE sweaters. The shawl collar cotton one in their Canvas collection looked like really great quality. I do think I'll be order it and one of their Oxford shirts to try out.

I'm not a fan of unlined jackets, the JC Boyfriend jacket for $215. came unlined in the back and I returned it the same day. Was so surprised to see them do that.

  73. Just got a new catalog yesterday with a $25 off card for purchases of $125. Good until Dec.6th :) Did anyone else get this? This is the first time I've received a nice offer.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Really? I can't wait to receive the catalog! I haven't received the promo coupon since last year... even the free shipping coupons were 2 months late! I'm going to call CS if my catalog is going to be late again! I'm not sure if I'd take advantage of this 20% off promo since I'd still have to pay for shipping... and it won't be worth it if I end up wanting to return the item(s).

Btw, I did receive a coupon for Crewcuts - $25 off purchase of $100 or more @ the Garden State Plaza, NJ. I don't shop @ Crewcuts and don't live near NJ. If anyone wants the coupon, please email me - lijean_sam@yahoo.com. I can mail it to you. It's good from Nov 14th through 28th.

  75. I was in my B&M yesterday and they had the vintage slim jean in the worn wash for $29. On site it's listed at $78.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Lauren S. and Sydneygirl: To answer your question about the full priced items that are in the sale section, what normally happens is that only some of the colors are on sale, and when those colors are sold out, the regular-priced colors remain in the "sale section." Unfortunately, that does not mean that those prices will be reduced in the near future, the sweater just has not been removed from the sale section.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I got the same catalog with the discount card yesterday! My first time too! The weird thing was, the catalog was actually addressed to my boyfriend who has made maybe one order ever. Nice little holiday surprise though!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I got the new catalogue today, but no bonus coupon. No surprise!
