  1. Someone asked about the ruffle sleeve t-shirt and I reviewed it in this post. Regarding this sale, a couple of items are an additional 50% off, like the rugby stripe sequin top (unfavorable reviews) and the linen fringe tank top.

    1. I liked the look of the sequin tank on the runway but won't risk final sale. Sounds like it has fit issues so anyone that has tried it should chime in. I appreciate the extra 40% off sale but wish it was in effect last week!

  2. I bought a few things on sale with the 40% - a pair of the billie cropped flares in black, the featherweight cashmere cardigan in gingham in black, and the playa earrings. All things I've been eyeing.

  6. OT, in addition to Madewell, now JC is going to be selling at Nordstrom soon.

Not really sure why this is necessary as most malls with a Nordstrom would have a JCrew. Madewell had a much smaller store presence so that made more sense to me. At least Nordstrom has better customer service--no return time limit!

    1. Hm and now that I think of it I'd much rather have rewards in the form of Nordstrom Notes than JC rewards, as they can be used to buy a much larger variety of merchandise...

    2. Thanks for sharing the article. It's a match, brandwise. I guess it's like Madewell and Kate Spade being there. Although J. Crew is more common in malls than the other two. I agree about Nordstrom Notes.

    3. this is awesome for so many reasons, nordstrom notes, fast shipping and excellent customer service!

    4. I wonder how Nordstrom will control the pricing, or if they will. If it's 40% off at J Crew or FS, will Nordstrom have the same?

    5. Nordstrom has a price match policy, so yes they would price match. And they don't do final sale!

I honestly don't know if it is going to help JC. They have to sell their stuff to Nordstrom at a wholesale price, which means they get less profit from items sold through nordstrom than their own store.

    4. So do Tyson's Corner, VA; King of Prussia, PA, and Mall at Short Hills, NJ.

    5. It's the website that should have the most impact. I honestly think this is just going to cannibalize JC's sales. It's not the same as doing Madewell, which doesn't have the same store footprint. I actually read an article the other day that Coach and Michael Kors are pulling out of a lot of dept stores to regain control of their brands.

    6. The J. Crew at the King of Prussia mall is literally a stones throw away from the Nordstrom entrance. It is a huge mall so it makes sense they are on the list but just seems weird

    7. Although the Tyson's corner nordstrom is in a completely separate building down the street from the J Crew store so in that regards it might help to have jcrew sold in nordstrom. But I think it will be a select few pieces they'll carry, like Madewell offerings at Nordstrom.

    8. From my experience, Nordstrom doesn't match Madewell's additional % off sales. I imagine they will probably match the online sale price, just not the addtl % promos.

    9. LA Times article giving more details, including the product mix.

    10. The Oregon location J. Crew is literally 2 stores down from Nordstrom in the mall as well. Pioneer Square which has a large free-standing Nordstrom across the street would have been a better pick in my opinion. It is also more of a tourist draw than the suburban Nordstrom. This does not make a whole lot of sense to me, but maybe they will carry different items? More chances to try things on or track things down that J. Crew says are out of stock. I also love that Nordstrom offers free shipping all the time.

  8. OK, Business Insider has the news now and is calling it a "desperate move" by JC:

    2. Yikes, this is rather worrisome. They seem to be trying various measures to save themselves, throwing out different ideas to see what sticks.

Somewhat related, byt I just visited my local B&M to return two items and also to check out some items from the last roll-out. Disappointed to learn that NYC stores will apparently NOT be receiving the Sammies in Corduroy -- the store manager told me he was shocked that his store wouldn't be receiving them and that he had called around other NYC stores to see if they would (no). Surprising decision, given that bloggers in TX and elsewhere have reported finding this Fall/Winter item in their stores now, so you would think NY with its cold weather right around the corner, would receive them. Nope. Puzzling.

Also, the store gave me a 15% Off Your Next In-store purchase coupon since I had an online return. I've made many an online return here and this is the first I've seen of this coupon. A new effort to bring in sales, I guess?

Here's hoping they get it together! They really are one of my favorite stores.

    3. Well, they are not alone. Banana Republic had a horrible last two years too. Significant design missteps. They have to keep trying new designers until they get some traction. I think JC has started moving in the right direction but in the guise of moving back to classics they don't have enough special pieces anymore. I keep looking for a special dress to wear to a wedding and everything is so basic or you have the bridesmaids dresses. I don't want to wear a bridesmaids dress as a regular guest to a wedding.

    4. Omigosh, I totally agree! Banana's downfall is actually what led me to try J. Crew. I'm not a long-time JCA like many here, have only been shopping with them since last year, but I got so fed up with Banana's boxy designs and full-on embrace of polyester, that I started looking elsewhere.

I'm glad to hear you think JC is moving in the right direction, despite having a long way to go. I hope you find your dress! (Have you tried Anthro? They're another retailer that long-time shoppers have been complaining about, saying they've lost their way.) I hope all of these retailers pull it together soon!

    5. Yes actually I just ordered 2 dresses from Anthro last week. Both got returned because the fits were a hot mess. Nice ideas, poor execution. :(

    6. JC's issues are evident in the dress that's featured in the photo of the article. I bought that dress, Sleeveless Italian linen stripe dress. Looked great on the website & I ordered as a work dress. But fabric had pulls in it when the dress arrived. Dress was FS & I took it back. Before I could say anything, manager said, "Oh, I see the pulls." Dress retailed for $228.

    7. @TM93, that's weird. I stopped at the East Hampton store last Monday and I am pretty sure they had them (at least in the pink color). Maybe the store manager didn't have the correct info.

    9. @Ema, I think he was referring to the stores in NYC proper, (rather than out on the island, etc.), but I bet you're right that at least some stores in NY have these, at least in one shade! Just doesn't make sense that they wouldn't carry it. (Also, maybe they'll arrive in future?) If you do happen to come across them in the city, please let me know and thank you!
