J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. For anyone looking for the cashmere collection fair isle sweater, item e3242...They have an XXS on sale for $39.99 less 50% off at my local store in Knoxville, TN. I know some people have the skirt and are looking for the sweater. HTH.

  2. I think one of you JCAs was recently looking for that black embroidered Jackie cardi in a size Small, just saw one on the site and hopefully you got a chance to snag it!

  3. The fatigue shirt was a no-go for me -- it's huge! Size 00 (my usual boyshirt size) is 38" at the chest, 39" at waist, and 39.5" at the bottom hem. I forgot to measure the length, but it ended well below my bum. Granted I'm only 5'3", but I have a long torso and rarely have issues with JC shirts being too long. The material is a nice fall weight, though, and the vintage indigo is a lovely, slightly weathered navy. HTH someone!

    1. @cobalt -- i had the same issue as you (even shorter at 4'11"). Only tried the 00 in the Regular size, but found it to be overly roomy and long, like you said. Didn't get a chance to try the 000, but I'm not sure ordering the Petite in 00 would do the trick either (might cut down on length, but not the overall roominess.) I really like the thin fabric on a transition piece like this one.

    2. With measurements like that for size 00, that's a pass for me. Even in a petite.

    3. @JSR, the crazy thing about the Petite version is that when I called Customer Service, they listed the following chest measurements: P0 - 32 1/2 and P2 is 33 1/2. (This was before I tried on the Regular 00 in-store.) I somehow doubt those are the correct chest measurements for the Petite since this item seems to run so roomy!

    4. Wow, chest measurement for P2 is 33 1/2? That's small! I'm a 36B. So that means I have to try a P6, P8?? That's a huge difference from the regular size.

    5. this sounds like I might like it. I order tall shirts because I like the extra length/

    6. @JSR, don't know if you've seen, but the lone online review for the Petite version of this shirt said she had to go DOWN two sizes from her usual one. I'm a 36B as well and usually opt for 0P or 2P so that's why I was inquiring about that size. That's why I think the measurements Customer Service gave out were wrong. (Not the first time!) If I try this shirt, I'll opt for the 00P, I think.

@Unknown, yeah, the shirt is intentionally long so that you can wear it a few ways, including tied at the waist. I think it's a really nice shirt, just don't want to get it hemmed.

  4. Anyone see the new catalogue? What do you think??

    1. It is interesting. I'm not sure if it was my style, but I was not bored. It starts with lots of hot pink (cover photo is a magenta/hot pink blazer and pants).

They're still pushing the Signet bag, which I think is difficult to open and not user-friendly. Looks cute though. Colorblock versions of this with calf hair.

City Trench coat looks nice. There is also a red plaid trench in nylon. If leopard is your thing, there are things to like. Loafers and an A-line skirt in leopard print with a waist tie. Looks like the small Rider handbag comes in leopard/black. There's a leopard print shift dress. The double-strap flats in leopard calf-hair. Chelsea boots in leopard calf hair.Leopard bow sandals.

Blazers, including corduroy, and corduroy mini skirt. Italian-made loafers. More ruffles, more Billie Demi-boot crop jeans. Glen plaid and houndstooth Seavees sneakers. Glen plaid pants suit.

The Rider Collection of bags is what's on my radar. Unless it is bad in some way I can't see from the catalog, I want the larger size Rider handbag. The bag tags are cute too. Another bag that looks very nice is the All-Day Tote bag in cabernet.

Shirtdress in tiered fatigue is not something I can pull off but it's going to be cute on others.

I'm not into the shoes, but there are lots of pumps (d'orsay and Elsie). Gemma, Sadie and slingback flats. Lots of snakeskin print on the shoes. Lace-up heels in black suede and leopard calf hair. Lena pumps in suede/patent, jeweled tweed, leather/patent and velvet. Lucite heels in suede or velvet.

New print is Vivid Paisley which is shades of pink and red and maybe some black and white. Another print is Bird of Paradise which is a burgundy ground with… gold and green birds on it and white in the pattern?

I like the look of the distressed boyfriend chinos. They're shown with a navy double-breasted coat in double-cloth wool that I also like (would not wear with a pajama shirt like the model!).

Tippi turtleneck. Sailor pant in bi-stretch wool. Argyle Tippis. Excursion vests, some with corduroy trim. Cigarette pant in foulard jacquard in cobalt print looks nice. Shown with navy lady day coat. Colorblock striped ponte dress looks cute. Silk polka dot jumpsuit. Lady jacket with ruffles in navy. Colorblock shearling sweater (mock neck?). Faux leather pleated mini in cabernet. Button-front double-serge wool skirt. Colorblock crewneck with side snaps in cabernet. No new denim styles that I can see. V-neck cardigan with floral patch looks nice. Corduroy Sammie pant. Merino wool sweater blazer. Long downtown field jacket. Drapey culotte in wool flannel.

Harlow cardigan in merino wool is new and looks cute. Regent suit is new (I think). Sheath dress in silk foulard (red/navy). Structured peplum top in stripe (navy/ivory) looks really cute. Monday dress (sleeveless with ruffle at armholes). Houndstooth campbell blazer. Two-piece shirtdress in houndstooth.

Nothing beats seeing the pictures, which I can't post, but if you have any questions just ask.

    2. Oh thanks so much for the detailed descriptions? How are skirts looking? Any midi's with an elastic waist like the polka dot or stripe midis of previous seasons? Those are the skirts that get the most use out of my closet!

    3. Wow, thanks for all the great descriptions @cate. I can't wait to see it!!

    4. liztriden, it doesn't look like there are elastic waist skirts, but that doesn't mean there aren't. Some things don't make it into the catalog. I can't see the waist on the faux-leather pleated mini. I also can't tell on the double-pleasted midi in vivid paisley. Those are the only two that look like they could possibly have elastic waists.

    11. I got a catalog as well last night at the store. There are many cute things, cate did a great job laying it out. I feel like I already have similar items that I can work in the same way but there are many things to love as always!

    12. Unknown, the long downtown field jacket comes in dark forest and in navy. The model looks like she's wearing 3" inseam shorts, and the jacket looks like it comes down a few inches past that. She's probably taller than most of us, though, so that observation might not be very useful.

They also showed the Cocoon coat, but just in Sandstone (other colors not shown in catalog).

    13. Awesome, thanks so much! Any new colors or prints in the excursion vests? Thanks! :)

    14. Factory has a polka dot vest in navy, it's really cute.

    15. Natalie, no prints in the excursion vests in the catalog. In quilted down, they show bleached sand heather tigerlily (looks orange), irish moss, navy, and black. In corduroy trim, they show pack green and navy (the corduroy trim on both looks brown). HTH.

  5. Review here of the ruffle dress in tropical floral. It's beautiful. Was so sorry it didn't work out for me. I mention why in the post.

  8. I'm tempted by a few popbacks today (weds) at 40% off and free shipping,
Point sur Jeans I tried on and returned are now a lot less and definitely worth the sale price of $60. I'm contemplating theCollins Glitter loafers too. I like the pointed toe. I know they're super glittery which I also kind of like. Does anyone else have them and like them?
