Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. OT but I noticed some prices in the sale section went UP overnight (and I don't mean the percentage off, I mean the base sale price). I'm dumbfounded.

    1. @Anthro Blogger I noticed the same thing...the Lillian wedges are up to $99.99 after being $59.99 with 75% off at one point. That's a HUGE price change. I also noticed in store vs. online price discrepancies - the Rhodes pants were $148 in store and are $128 online. umm...why?

  2. Going to the clearance store in Lynchburg tomorrow morning! I have birthday money burning a hole in my pocket so hopefully I'll find some goodies to spend it on. I haven't been in a few months - wanting to find a few more pairs of Lookout jeans (I have worn my cropped white pair & my cropped Mariner wash pair every week!) & maybe try some of the new pants styles. Wish me luck!

  3. I will be visiting for sure, but just to make some returns. I ordered that ruffle button up shirt and the seaside pants in fern. Needless to say I was not a fan of either item so back they go. So sad too.

  4. I was in a store earlier in the week. Loving the fall offerings. Between that and my online action I need to let my Visa cool off. Besides I think I'm more than well set-up for fall.

  5. I won't get into a store but I did receive the Margot top in white cotton- it's a bit too big in the chest in my usual size (I'm small chested though) so will have to exchange. It's pretty, a little sheer but I guess that's usual for white. I thought it said machine wash online when I ordered but it says dry clean online and on the tag so I must have been wrong. I don't want another dry clean top had anyone washed the cotton Margot by chance? Or think it would be ok to hand wash it with the ruffles?

    1. jan, I'm known in my circle as a laundress extraordinaire, I vote to wash it by hand first. I can't imagine dry cleaning a cotton shirt like this, besides, I don't like the chemicals in dry-cleaning solutions.

    2. @bully4kate, thank you! If I keep it I'll try hand washing it. I hate dry cleaning because of chemicals too so I only go to a green earth dry cleaner (no perc, no smell, enviro friendly) but it's out of town so I rarely go.

  6. Sorry if this article has already been shared. I thought JCAs might find it interesting. https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2016/08/26/why-are-sales-suffering-at-so-many-womens-stores-they-made-bad-clothes/?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-d%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.d2b64eedbf23

    1. @Hexicon, I found this article very interesting, thank you for sharing it. In particular this bit:

'Meanwhile, the vicious cycle of promotions — those “30 percent off your purchase”-type offers — drew in retailers desperate to maintain sales through the recession and its immediate aftermath. But now many customers simply expect this rhythm and won’t pay full price, knowing another promotion is always around the corner.

'When retailers have to bake in these discounts, “That’s going to change the quality of the production, it’s going to change the quality of the materials,” said Randy Allen, a former Kmart executive and a senior lecturer at Cornell University who studies retailing.

Did Banana Republic think women wouldn’t notice that some of its dress pants cost $98, but are unlined and made of synthetic fabric? Did Anthropologie think shoppers would blindly plunk down $88 for a shapeless T-shirt dress made of spandex and jersey? Women will gladly pay up for items they think are worth the price: One need only look at the strength of prestige beauty-product sales, such as contouring makeup and CC creams, which were up 7 percent in 2015, for evidence of this. But women want price tags that they believe are commensurate with quality, and these apparel retailers are not consistently delivering on that.'

      Great points, all of them.

    2. Thanks for posting, Hexicon - and good to see you! Maybe this article will draw out some MIA JCA's. I'd like to know what they think of the new rollout.

I think the more recent rollouts are showing promise in design, but reading the reviews it appears that there are still lots of quality and fit issues. The leather Gemma flats have a lot of poor reviews, which is unfortunate because it seemed to be a perfect ballet flat. The Chateau trench from this spring should've been a home run - they designed it based on a best-selling coat, for crying out loud! - but there were a lot of fit problems there.

With regard to the cycle of promotions, I would definitely need one to be enticed to buy fall clothes because it is in the high 80's here in upstate NY and will be for the foreseeable future. I won't be able to wear anything fall-like for a while, and by then Holiday will be rolled out and Fall marked down. If the winter is anything like last winter, I won't even need a coat!

I wonder how much of an impact the online review systems are having on these retailers. Perhaps before, if somebody got a poor-quality item they just chalked it up to being a lemon. Now you can go on the site and see how many people are complaining of the same thing. I've definitely decided against purchasing (or even trying on) based on reviews. Good for us, bad for them.

    3. Thanks, Silver_lining, I've had a couple of home runs with JC this spring/summer--fringy tweed jacket and tipped Rhodes jacket ... tweed moto jacket was more of a double due to the fit problem with the arms ... hmm, I'm seeing a theme here. But I've been saving my $$ for travel and haven't been spending as much time shopping at JC or anywhere. When the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalog features seven different pairs of ripped jeans, it's time for a time-out, y'know?

    4. Thanks for posting this, Hexicon, it never ceases to amaze me that people rue still finding it "news" that women don't want ugly poorly made shoddy clothes.

    5. It is an interesting article although I wish JC would stop blaming that poor Tilly sweater, I can think of worse mistakes they keep making over and over. I don't like feeling as if the money I spent on an item was a waste and lately, unless it is on super sale, I generally do. Either there is a fit issue or a quality issue that means the following season I will be less likely to wear it. I have also given up on FS. I'm probably also not the demographic since off the shoulder tops and other trends don't appeal to me, can't wear to work, and they feel too young on me. That being said, if I wanted something super trendy or fast fashionish, I would go to Old Navy since I usually get enough wear out of an item that I don't feel bad about it.

  7. I went to the factory store this week and purchased a few items with my teacher discount. Received a coupon for 20% off online or in store teacher discount promotion. It worked online on items usually excluded from promos.

  8. Hi JCA's,

If you're looking to kill time on a Friday afternoon - I find it fun to look back at the pics from NYFW once the items are actually rolled out.

I wonder if they're really going to release an olive parka with pink fur trim. ; )

    2. Nice to see the runway photos again after the stuff is released. It gives me a refreshing perspective, that I might've ignored when I saw the NYFW photos for the first time.

Yea, I wonder if the parka made it to production. And for how much, $1K? :-O

    3. Some of the items make it to production and look totally different. That green and blue jaquard skirt shown with the pink sweater looks like an a-line mini skirt at FW and the actually production was a long, pencil skirt. The length on the one that made it to production made it so much less fun to me than the image at FW. Perhaps more wearable for some, but I'm not personally a fan of skirts that hit below the knee -- I think they tend to shorten the look of the legs / body for most people.

  9. Hi,
Would someone please share their thoughts on the Jackie cotton cardigan and the Caryn Cardigan? Wanting to purchase both are cotton.

    Thanks,
    Tish

    1. I have lots of Jackie cardigans, old and new. I have to go up one size in them as they now run smaller than they used to. I like them for a little added layer or to tie around my neck or waist for a pop of color. Definitely wait until they go on sale to purchase, if you don't get the exact color you will get something close.

  10. I have both new (and old!) Jackies and have one Caryn cardi from Factory. Jackies are a bit smoother (perhaps heavier weight?) knit and less prone to wrinkles. I like the fit better on the (new) Jackie, it is a little longer on me than the Caryn. My Caryn didn't look so great after washing, but I have not washed my new Jackies yet so curious how they will hold up in that dept!

  11. Thank you all so much:) I will be going with the Jackie - the price points were so different, but the quality is what I am after:))

  12. Just got back from Factory, was in and out I less than 5 minutes, nothing in the fall rollout caught my eye, and the summer clearance stuff was pretty stale, some of it has been there for months now. Last year Factory had a number of things that caught my eye, but not so much this year.

  16. Can anyone comment on the Sheath dress in crimson foulard? TTS? I'm only 5'3 should I get petite?

    1. Yes! It was long on me (I'm 5'4") and the waist would hit at a better spot in the petite version.
