J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Loving the LONG-SLEEVE STRIPED MAXI DRESS. I wore it for the first time on Friday. The fabric is perfect - thick enough so that not everything shows through. I think the style will be very versatile for me. I look a size 4. I typically take a XS or S in tops and a 4 or 6 in bottoms. The dress has some seaming that makes it very flattering. I love the long sleeves - great for climates like mine where it takes a long time for warm weather to arrive and I think also good for the over-airconiditioning that takes place all summer. On top of everything the dress is very comfortable - I wore it from about 7:30am until I got home at 10pm.

    3. How will this work for a girls who's pear shaped? Usually I cannot wear 'column dresses'.

    4. We will see, as I am quite pear-shaped! It looks like there is a bit of shaping at the waist, would should help. I will report back!

    5. I am pear shaped as well and the sheath type dresses from J. Crew haven't really worked for me in the past. I the shaping at the waist plus the cotton fabric are what made it work for me. Hope it works for others too!

    6. I really want to try this striped dress but agree that I've been hesitating due to my hips. Will be interested to hear any of the curvy ladies who try it!

  2. Off the shoulder top was a no go for me... loved the yellow, but every time I moved, the top went up my shoulders. I think it is my body type :(

    Red linen pants - LOVE

Collection crinoline long skirt - LOVE the pattern... the fit.. oh my. My love for the pattern had me run to the tailor to completely rework the skirt. It is in progress..

Collection crinoline sundress in the blue floral - OMG, love! Fit is TTS, VERY flattering dress. Highly recommend if you can grab on popback.

Collection ludlow suit jacket/Gazebo patio pants in Copper - The whole suit was a BUST! I have other Ludlow jackets that fit great, this was a bad fit! Pants arrived damp.. weird.

More to come... on instagram same name, just request.

  3. My Long Sleeve Striped Maxi Dress arrived today and it is gorgeous! I fell in love with this dress when I saw it during fashion week. I've seen it on a couple of ladies online and it is better IRL. I am 5'3 + 120 pounds + 6 months postpartum and it fits amazing. I can even get away without hemming it. The fabric is a nice thick cotton that has stretch and breathable which makes it very comfortable. I was able to get 30% off it online and is definitely worth it!

    1. I'm 5'3" too. What size did you get if you don't mind me asking? I'm about 130lbs.

  4. I received Point Sur Shoreditch Selvedge Jean in Warnell Wash (#C0944) today.
Because they are final sale and many reviewers said they ran large, I asked for specific measurements. They supposedly are just about identical (in theory) to the Point Sur shoreditch jeans in Orran wash I received last week, except, they're not. They're significantly larger. I emailed to see if I could return them because the measurements are not as specified, but I'm really disappointed. The denim and distressing is really nice, and I love the selvedge. But they're HUGE. I wanted them slouchy but they're way too baggy.

    1. I measured the jeans against each other and they're definitely larger, but CS responded, the measurements we sent you are correct...guess what, they're not! It's too bad because I absolutely love the jeans and will stalk for the 25.

Another issue with this order, the sleeveless wool peplum top in black. I ordered 0 and 2. First I try the 0 and it is a bit snug (just fits), but short for my torso. The 2 is loose, but also wrinkly and dirty. I figured, maybe I'll steam it. Then I realize they sent me the 00. The 0 would be the right size. Sigh. IF I can get the right size, I absolutely love this top. The fit is very flattering. I tried it with the wide leg wool pants from holiday and the two together make such a great look. The wool is light, it's lined, and the zipper is very long which makes it so much easier to take off.

The convertible zip anorak in bright sunset (whatever the red is called) is a big miss for me. It's too big and shapeless. I ordered the XS and I still look like I'm wearing my husbands jacket.

Denim Utility Shift Dress (F0347) - Size M - Thick denim material. Base on measurements from CS, and reviews online, I ordered an M, and it fits me fine around the chest (I am 36B). It would be a little snug if I had ordered an S; online reviews said its tight around the armpits. The length falls between my knee caps (4'11). Zippers are hidden at the back. Two generous pockets at the front. Great minimal dress to wear during summer. And you can layer it with a T.

Soludos Platform Gladiator Sandal in leather (F0345) - Size 6 - I am a true 5.5, and was surprised at how small these ran. I have somewhat wide feet, so the 6 was a little snug, so I am hoping the leather will stretch out. I haven't worn it the entire day, since I'm not sure if I'll be keeping. I read the reviews on the brand's own website, and it was mixed with positive and negative. So I am not fully convinced that I want to keep it, even though it looks really cute.

To add...I also received the Crinkle Boy Shirt in Gingham Eggplant - Size 2. I didn't even bother to try it on. Sleeves were long on me when I laid the shirt onto my body. I wasn't into the material since it looked flimsy. Understandable that it is a summer shirt, that is why its a sheer fabric. I think a P2 would have been better. But the shirt is not for me, Back it goes.

    2. Oh that's too bad about that shirt, JSR, but I do know what you mean. I would've preferred it in a Petite size as well, or even the smaller Regular size. I prefer to roll up my sleeves so that part doesn't bother me and I was drawn to the color most of all, so pretty. But I find Boy shirts to be tricky sometimes in terms of sizing -- one part will fit while others don't.

  6. Cary mini-wedge in silver glitter- a complete miss for me. The glitter was already flaking in places, the zipper was so stiff I could barely get the back of the shoe undone, and the back goes too far up the heel- very uncomfortable and pokey when walking. They are TTS for my normal Cece and sneaker size but I wear 1/2 size down in Dulcis.

The flutter sleeve dress in Ikat- Silk is absolutely lovely, the fabric and lining have just the right heft where it is breathable and light but thick enough to not crease horribly or show lumps/bumps. They matched the print perfectly at the waist seam on the dress I received, which is a thoughtful quality touch I haven't seen from J. Crew in a while- I seriously wanted to hug someone for that. I'm not sure why they included the design detail of having the zip come only halfway up the back- I don't think that keyhole adds anything. Fortunately it does not interfere with wearing a bra though it is fairly low. The hook and eye button at the top of the neck was loose, I would need to take pliers to it to make sure it didn't come undone at the top. The fit was TTS in my smaller dress size and accommodated my large chest which is usually why I would need to size up. Unfortunately, it wasn't as flattering on me as the model, I think I would have liked a lower scoop neck to compensate for the additional volume up top in the sleeves. So, despite the high quality, back it goes. May reconsider on sale.

Vintage plaid popover- TTS in the smaller of my 2 sizes with no button gaping. Not too long. Solid if boring and a bit somber for summer.

    1. Alyssa, I know what you mean about that lovely Ikat dress -- I bought it in the white color and though the quality, details and fit were there, the style wasn't as flattering on me as the model. The sleeves were so 'poofy' and voluminous like you said and I would've welcomed a v-neck to take away from that. (It looked slightly less bothersome in the orange color, but the white was too much -- I looked like I was wearing shoulder pads!) The style just wasn't flattering on my body type, which was disappointing as it fit so well in other aspects. TTS (& many of my other recent JC dress attempts haven't been TTS for me.)

    2. TM93-I was going to say the same thing in regards to the sleeves on the ikat dress. The poofy effect just turned me off. Otherwise I liked the fit and the material was nice. It is a shame that this one ticked off a lot of boxes for me but than still missed the mark. It was tts for me as well.
