J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Thanks for the heads up on Madewell new arrivals! I never remember to watch for that. Unfortunately I don't think they're offering a promo, but J. Crew's promotion is great.

    2. I like the plaid bikini, it reminds me of J Crew from the 1990's, otherwise I'm not super excited. I think it's just the styles are not to my taste in this go round, I don't care for off the shoulder, wide leg, or midi, so I'm sitting this one out. There are some cute things, I love the eyelet midi dress, but at 4'10" midi is hard to pull off even in petite. I'm hoping the quality overall is getting better though, looking forward to the fall with high hopes.

    3. Yea I too wasn't blown away by the new arrivals...like I always say, I'm not a huge fan of JCrew in the summer. Spring and Fall is my favorite.

Review here of the new bow-tie top in stripe.

    1. Did you ever try the Seamed shell in zigzag eyelet (C7212) from I think last year? Would you say similar fit? I ordered the bow top in the same size I bought in that zig zag shell. Hoping it was the right call.

    2. Hi Miss JR - I've never tried that top. From the stock pic, my guess is that it's tts like the bow-tie top in stripe. So to directly answer, yes, I think the fit is probably similar. Good luck!

    3. Miss JR, I went down two sizes in the bow top and it was still too large on me! It's more A-line than the zig zag shell. The arm holes were also too big on me.

  3. Madewell's Linen/Cotton Pull-On shorts (#E8919). Super cute but don't put them in the dryer. Mine shrank a lot. I re-washed them, shook them out and hung them to dry and they went back to their original size (phew!).

Madewell's Forward-Seam Slub Tank (#C8620). This was offered last year and they brought it back again this year. Love this!

Madewell's 9" High Rise Skinny Crop jeans in Bayview (#E8793). I am a big fan of these jeans, which is saying something because I don't love skinny and I don't love high rise. There's enough stretch that they're comfortable, but they retain their shape. The rise is high, but not crazy high, and the crop is just right for a shorter person like me. They're slim but not very tight like skinny jeans can be. TTS, took my J. Crew Matchstick size (which is one size down from my J. Crew Toothpicks).

    1. Thanks for the Madewell reviews. I was considering the Forward-Seam tank last year, but never bit. I will definitely order one this year to try. Any styling tips?

    2. The Forward Seam tank is a good backdrop for a statement necklace, it's kind of a blank slate. I think it looks good with almost anything. I wouldn't wear it with a full/midi skirt or anything with volume on the bottom. It's good with skinnies or shorts. It's kind of A-line and not cropped/short. I have not tried on this year's yet, just last year's, so hopefully they fit the same.

    3. Agree with you Cate! It is awesome and needs something not full on the bottom.i bought the white today and will review tomorrow.
Tired from all the jcrew posts lol.

    4. Ina thank you for doing the J. Crew reviews, though, very helpful! I am in love with those St. Barts tees (ordered both to try). I stalked the Forward-Seam top last year until I got it in several colors. It's the perfect tank top. Debating whether to try the striped version this year, but I don't think I will like it as well. I may be getting burnt out on stripes (or maybe I just have enough!).

    5. Thanks everyone! Now to decide which color to get. I like all of them.
Thanks for all of the great reviews on instagram @ina. It's so helpful to see the items IRL and read your thoughts on fit, etc.

  6. J. Crew Eyelet Shorts (#F1577). I tried these on in white. They are super cute, elastic waistband, nice length. I'm on the fence about whether they are too sheer for me. From the front, they are not. If I bend over, you can see through a bit in the back. But if I stand straight or just walk in them, I think they are fine. I tried them in my regular J. Crew/Madewell shorts size and they are comfortably loose but I'm sure they're the right size. I don't think they're meant to be a snug fit.

  7. I mentioned getting the long sleeve striped maxi dress last week. It's really nice. Definitely a transitional piece and not summer-y. It's a heavier weight fabric, not t-shirt material. More like a rugby shirt's material. Fits great. I go t a sz. 6, my normal size and it looks really nice. It's *almost* too short on me to wear with wedge sandals and I'm 5'4". So, I didn't end up wearing it this past weekend to my event b/c it was too dang cold. Even though I like it a lot, I'm just wondering when and where I'll get use out of this dress. Thoughts? Where are those of you that got it wearing it?? I don't work and my life-style is pretty casual.

    1. Jurby18...I bought this dress and love it! My lifestyle is also very casual, but I will wear it out to eat and to church. I live in the south and am thinking about altering the sleeves, making them short, so I can get more wear out of it. I also love it styled with a jean jacket for spring and fall. Love the way Rynetta styled it on her blog, jcrewismyfavstore.

  8. Ema/crazyaboutcrew, that hookup outfit (instagram) looks so cute on you! I didn't love the skirt on its own, but I did when I saw it with that top on you. Thanks for all your reviews too!

    1. Agreed. The outfit looks very cute. Thanks for the reviews, Ema. I think that skirt could easily be worn casually or be dressed up, nice for a lot of occasions.

    3. Thanks for doing more reviews, Ema. The Collection Pinafore Dress is lovely on you and what a great deal!
I didn't even notice the Striped Racerback. It's perfect for Summer. I like the idea of pairing it with a jean jacket, effortless style.

    4. @maryeb, thank you. The fabric of the striped racerback is really nice. I am usually not too fond of tank dresses but the color of this one paired with the soft fabric won me over. Plus it was very flattering.

  9. My stripe bow tie top and matching culottes arrived yesterday and are going back. Both fit TTS. The pants are VERY high waisted, way past my belly button. My son told me I look like the old fashion bathing suits with this on. A little disappointed as I loved the look on the model at the fashion show.
