J.Crew's Jenna Style on View

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Whitney, Ashley, as well as Heidi (in this post), who let us know about a post with video over at the New York Magazine's Fashion page (click here).

Our Video Look Book crew has been skulking around the tents the last few days and — lo! — ran into J.Crew president Jenna Lyons and Amanda Brooks of the William Morris Agency. Each stylin' lady walked our cameras through their head-to-toe looks (which included pieces by Phillip Lim, Philip Crangi, Chanel, Eddie Borgo, and J.Crew, of course), told us what shows they're most looking forward to, and where their preferred people-watching spots are when Fashion Week isn't in session. See all that and more in the video after the jump.
I do think Jenna's personality is cute. And I give her credit for wearing that much denim with confidence. Alas, I could not pull that look off.

What are your thoughts on the video? Do you like Jenna's outfit that she is sporting? Will you rock the denim on denim look?

  1. I think she pulls the double denim off great--very inspiring. I also made some time over the (crappy weather) weekend to look at NY Fashion Week reviews and see that Michael Kors actually did a very similar sequined pant to JC's for his new collection which I find an interesting backwards copy--even shown with a JC-type sweatshirt-y top. And one of the Harpers Bazaar editors was photographed twice wearing JC. Once in those ubiquitous sequin pants and once in the rusty-red-colored minnies. brava jenna

  2. That was cute - thanks for sharing! It's funny, I think I would consider myself someone that likes both 'borrowed from the boys' (although the phrase is tired) and some 'borrowed from Grandma' but I'm not seeing much of the latter at JC lately. Their interpretation of it is probably different - I'm thinking of Grandma when she was in her 30's (back in the 50's with classic shapes and longer skirts)... not in her 80's (acrylic knits)!

  3. Jenna looks great...make-up, denim on denim and all! She must be sky high tall in those heels! Although I have to say I personally would feel a bit like a bum wearing jeans w/holes in them out to any event.

  4. While I have never, ever been a fan of the denim-on-denim look (and the idea of getting dressed in it to attend fashion shows made me cringe!) I will say that, collectively, fit and style are my compass by which I judge any outfit and I think Jenna pulls this off. I love the slim fitting cropped jeans on her paired with timeless black pumps, and her accessories, as usual, are fab. That said, I don't think I will be trying this look anytime soon ;) But I like that she thinks outside the box.

  5. Well, go Jenna! The look reminds me of Baby Sister's Joyful Big Number High School Reunion: Sis had just lost MUCHO pounds, and showed it off in slim (read: tight) jeans, little denim top, towering red sandals. She looked great! She made sure to be in pictures next to the (ex) cool kids who looked like table lamps next to her. Oh, and how did she accessorize? With men, she smilngly replied.

  6. I loved Jenna's outfit! The Chanel bag and classic heels made it cool and stylish without looking like she tried too hard.

I am one of those people who would NEVER do denim-on-denim -- to me it's a horrible 70s look, but the way it's being done nowadays is so chic! I took some inspiration from Jenna last week when I was on vacation and wore my JC Selvedge shirt with darker cut off denim shorts and I have to admit I felt pretty cool :)

  7. I was really impressed by Jenna here. First off, compared to Amanda Brooks (standing next to her), she seems very humble. I love how she self-deprecatingly adds that Brooks goes to more shows than she does. And no need for everything on her body to belong to a flashy label. No one can say Jenna doesn't stand by quality, based on how she's dressed: she reps J.Crew and Madewell alongside Louboutin and Chanel. Smart, smart moves.

By the way, isn't her shirt chambray? Technically not denim, though the coloring is similar. I just looked it up on Wikipedia. Did you know wearing chambray on top of (dark) denim is known as the "prison blues"? Definitely not a new idea, but Jenna's twist is all hers... and I think that's entirely appropriate for a warm weather fashion week.

  8. OT: i was just on the site and a popup asked if i'd like to chat with a personal shopper! i like the reaching out to the online shopper, since i never get to a store I thought that was really sweet.

(i didn't use it since i was just browsing the sale section, but this could come in handy as winter comes along)

pardon me, if this has been discussed before as i haven't been on the site in a few weeks.

and, i think this is the same outfit jenna was photographed in over at the sartorialist.

  12. E, sorry for posting before coffee. Point was, if you are lucky enough to be born slim & graceful & confident, or to become slim & graceful & confident (yes, I do think luck plays a part), then just about anything will look great on you. And if you are lucky enough to be all of those things and to be wearing J.Crew, you will look even greater, whether you are JL at a fashion event or Baby Sister at a class reunion.

Baby Sis just called to say her cat loves the cashmere fuzz I sent. Thought I'd pass that along.

  13. I think Jenna looks great and I would definitely wear the denim on denim look. I agree with Dara however that this is NOT would I would chose to wear to a fashion show!

  14. Jenna does look great doesn't she. Doesn't hurt one bit to be 6' tall, slim and confident as others point out. I thought I was a cool kid too, wearing my lightweight denim shirt (and it is denim, in my case, not chambray) with dark slim jeans and desert boots, till someone here said it's "prison blues". You're right. I was doing the Elvis. LOL.

  17. I love love Jenna's Chanel bag. Not a fan of all of the denim but it does look great on her.

  18. I love Jenna's Chanel handbag and her CL pumps, but I don't think I can ever pull off denim on denim especially the faded ones. As others pointed out she has a model feature so pretty much anything looks great on her.

  19. The first thing I thought when I saw the outfits head-to-toe was that Amanda Brooks was carrying J.Crew's Campo tote. Of course, it wasn't but J.Crew knocked off that style very well IMO.

I think Jenna looks good but I don't care for Amanda Brooks outfit at all. On the Sartorialist I thought WTH?!

The more I see of Jenna, the more I wonder if all the over the top styling was more Tracy Gardner's direction and not Jenna's. I feel like there has been a slight shift since Tracy left and I must say that I do like it. Go Jenna!
