As mentioned in an earlier post, I am on vacation! Unfortunately, I won't be able to keep up with all the latest J.Crew news, promos, and the like.
So this post is the "catch all" for J.Crew Aficionadas and Aficionados to share with one another the "current happenings" for today. Feel free to post your comments here- from current J.Crew promotions, sales, emails, and even questions on products (regarding fit & size), and the like. :)
What comments do you want to share or ask of other Aficionadas and Aficionados? What is currently happening (in terms of promos, sales, emails, products, and the like)?
Just thought I'd mention there is free shipping on orers over $100 with code SHIP100.
ReplyDeleteNothing for me though this time.
After seeing some of these darling catolog photos from previous seasons in posts lately, I decided to just google 'J Crew 2007' to get my fill. Sometimes 2010 photos would pop up in the search, and seeing the 2 very different styles right next to one another was such a stark contrast.
To be honest, the '10 images next to '07 just looked silly -- a whack-a-do, deranged, escaped from a mental institue and stopped off at girlscout camp along the way-- kind of silly. Just sayin'....
Huuuuge Final Sale update just now! Went from ~500 items to ~1400.
ReplyDeleteSubscribing. :)
ReplyDeleteActually it looks like it's mostly popbacks, but I did see a few newer sweaters moved to the sale.

ReplyDeletesome nice popbacks, though...
ReplyDeleteThat ruffled glen plaid mini also went to sale. Other than that, it's hard to tell which are new markdowns. Insane amount of popbacks, though.

ReplyDeleteThe Bisbee tote popped back so if anyone's undecided, definitely get it. I LOVE mine. It's not too big, lots of pockets, and it's a nice, neutral color that goes with everything.
ReplyDeleteRegina O - you have the jalapeno color?
ReplyDeleteRegina O - you have the jalapeno color?
ReplyDeleteyikes, the jeweled jardin jacket has popped back in all sizes! Astounding, since we were told that only a limited number of this exquisite piece was made, and when those were sold there would be no more.
ReplyDeleteMickey, not only do I dump guys who lie to me, I warn my friends.
I told my sister about the new JCrew return policy and she was horrified to say the least. She buys 90% of her boyfriends gifts for most occasions/holidays at JCrew and now she said she won't be able to anymore.
ReplyDeleteShe usually shops sale and her boyfriend is super picky about fit and she always had the option of exchanging for something else--or he did:0 and at least getting store credit if need be-- She works 7-7 6 days a week in healthcare and with only 1 day off she doesn't always shop within the 30 (or 60 day return time limit).
She said she will have to go with LLBean or Land's End from now on. She was so happy I "warned" her ahead of time as his birthday--and Christmas are coming up.
I think JCrew just shot themselves in the foot with this new return policy.

ReplyDeleteHi JulieY, yes, I have the Jalapeno color and it's fab.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine that they will extend the time to return at Christmas. Saks has a 30 day return policy but at Christmas it is extended.
ReplyDeleteOoh...I want this necklace so bad...
ReplyDeleteWFF- you make me want to start off my Monday good...lol.
ReplyDeleteReginaO - I agree with your comment on the Bisbee Tote! I have it in Tawny Brown and LOVE it and always get compliments on it! I see that the popback in Jalapeno is now gone. Some lucky lady got a great bag!
ReplyDeletePopbacks have become an insult to my intelligence. I'm tired to seeing reruns of stuff I passed up 10 times with all their various carrots at the end of their sticks.
ReplyDeletesub :)
ReplyDeleteI got an e-mail today saying they are taking $10 off bootcut cords on-line and in store. Not much of a discount, but thought I'd mention!
ReplyDeleteLambie is at a couple of the NYC stores, just lying around on counters. If you wanted this, bought it and are giving it lots of TLC, you are in luck, because for the right person it could be cute. BUT BUT BUT this is NOT a piece that looks good shopworn. Is scraggly a word? So if you have it, love it, but don't wait for reductions, because one thing we've all learned is that JC does not take care of its stock.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you, egyptomaniac! The contrast is really something.
ReplyDeleteYou know, for years I did 80-90% of my shopping at JCrew. I have a mostly casual lifestyle, but they had plenty of options for workwear and occasions as well. I shopped other retailers to fill in around the edges, but I oculd rely on the Crew for a cohesive wardrobe. I am now shopping around A LOT more, and there just isn't another retailer that offers the same look. Very disappointing. Very.
Agreed on the Bisbee! The jalapeno is a nice, rich color. I won mine on Ebay and got it new; couldn't be happier with it.
ReplyDeleteI also have the Bisbee in the lovely jalapeno color however less than owning it for two months the plastic seems along the handle has started to crack and I'm worried this thing won't last even 6 months. Has anyone experienced this with JC bags? Also along the handle rings, there are fabric seams sticking out... Would JC fix this issue since I'd like to keep the bag for it's color?
ReplyDeletejcmama, have not had that experience and I have Crew bags that are at least 7 years old....and my Bisbee is pristine and I carry it loads. Hmmm....not sure if JC would/could do anything considering you've had it for a bit. But you could call customer service and ask, won't hurt.
ReplyDeletecan somebody comment on the tasca zip cardi?is it tts? i ordered the black on a popback, but i never saw it IRL.
ReplyDeleteTIA
jcmama,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your bag. I don't own any JCrew bags other than the cute canvas print totes they used to make so I cannot comment directly but I do feel bad for you as I have had my fair share of poorly made items.
Wellfedfred,
ReplyDeleteThat is why I don't get too over excited when a piece sells out b/c it always seems to pop back!
I think the jeweled jardin jacket is a prime example of a totally non wearable piece. I mean you could wear it once and never again at least for a very long time as it is such a statement piece! (I wonder what crazy people bought it out in minutes??? probably movie stars and that is fine they have plenty of $$$ and now it is back in stock in all sizes...hmmmm...
I know we all have different fashion tastes and I know people out there love it but it is definitely not to my liking--even if it sold for $20 I would keep on walkin!
@Genny: I agree with you in regards to the jeweled jardin jacket - I think it is incredibly gaudy looking.
ReplyDelete@ Ina- I have the Tasca cardi in two colors- the warm sandalwood and the pale lilac. They fit TTS in my experience and they're cute pieces w/ the contrasting zippers on the pockets. Be warned that these are fine knit and lightweight, easy to snag. I've done it already.
ReplyDeleteLaurie,
ReplyDeleteI think it could have been very tastefully done with a just some jewels around the shawl color or something. I like the color of the jewels overall. My new line is WWTGT--What Would Tim Gunn Think??? Ha ha.
This is going back a quite a ways now but there was a time when one could browse many of the old J Crew catalogs online. It was discussed (website was posted by someone) on this blog but has been quite some time ago, now. I remember the PARIS was not on there but several others were. I am really seeking the LONDON I believe 2005. I have been googling around a bit and I am not having any luck.
ReplyDeleteI will tell you that I found a BUNCH of interesting articles while seeking out the catalogs, though! Really intriguing and interesting as it gives a time line of how J Crew has transformed/morphed into what it is today.
Anyway-any help would be appreciated. Or if anyone has them blogged/captured in some way. TIA!
Hear ye, hear ye, Egyptomaniac. These 2007 flashback photos are a Proustian tease. I can vow to this: If J.Crew re-released all of the 2007 September catalogue simultaneously with the 2010 September issue, my greenbacks would be going to the 2007 items.
ReplyDeleteThis new return policy is only another nail in the coffin ("made of teak our artists discovered at an old lumberyard in Thailand and hand carved by gibbons, we're taking ours to the office and draping them with pearls. Collection.). I usually return fairly quickly, but still, 60 days seems reasonable; 30 days is cheap. And yeah, bah humbug to that during Christmas.
so I guess this means I will not be able to post scary but celebratory Hallowe'en pix of self & friends clad in J.Crew's finest. The thought of having to keep some of this stuff …
ReplyDeleteEgyptomaniac, re: old catalogs -- there are some pix and links at another blog called JCrewAholics. And there I also found (old) links to the following 2008 collection pieces, with their prices:
ReplyDeleteLeopard-beaded dress, $3,500.00, Item 96082
Leopard-beaded cardigan, $2,800.00, Item 96123
Gstaad shearling jacket, $3,000.00, Item 10615
The links don't seem to work on the older stuff, but the blog does have some lovely postings of catalog pictures. HTH.
Anyone think a chance of a coupon being offered soon that will work on the Stockton Racer Jacket? Been eyeing this since last year, and pleasantly surprised to see it offered again. Especially in Tall size.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Oh, I would love to see some of those older catalogs!! I only have 2007 and back! (I am still trying to figure out how to upload them somewhere for the JCAs - anyone with tips, feel free...) Please post if you find some older ones!
ReplyDeleteFFM has been putting some catalog images on her blog, but I believe they are from 2008.
OT .... has anyone picked up a copy of "True Prep" by Lisa Birnbach and Chip Kidd, the sequel to "The Official Preppy Handbook?" It was released last week and has been reviewed endlessly (and quite positively) in the past couple of months.
ReplyDeleteI bring it up because there are so many J. Crew references in the book and reviews. Which is so odd to me. Maybe in 1980 the brand was all things "prep," but NOW? Wondering what others are thinking ...
I feel a bit behind the times, but where is the new return policy posted? Just in the B&M stores? If JCrew is moving to a 30 day return policy, I think I may have to cry. Banana has one at their stores now and it's a deterrent for me to shop there...
ReplyDeleteOT - received an email from Brooks Brothers advising that there is a BB Limited Edition of the "True Prep" book available online and in stores. I took a look through and it was pretty cute so I had to buy it.
ReplyDeleteWe have a few of the BB "Lady" and "Gentleman" books as well as the "Generations of Style" book. I'm sure some people would do the eyeroll at the very thought of these books but if you are invited to a black or white tie event and wondering if you know the protocol, the advice in these books can be a lifesaver. If nothing else, the boost of confidence you'll get from the acquired knowledge is worth the price alone.
On Topic, I also got the email for $10 off bootcut cords. Totally underwhelmed with that offer but I do like that they are starting to offer free shipping on $100. I've still got the free ship on my account until the 19th but I know others don't so the lower minimum is nice to see. Despite the Huuuuge Final Sale update (thanks socialscientist), I found nothing at all to add to my cart.
No new sale items for me this time...however I did score the tiered lace cami! Remember the one from last fall that was almost $800! Well as it turns out J.Crew does a Collection for certain outlet stores as well...this year they did that cami for their outlet collection! I called around and found one in CT! It is being shipped to me. It is due to arrive Tues. Will post more once details once I receive it, if anyone is interested! the kicker is my final cost with shipping was less than $100!
ReplyDeleteactually, when I was in this weekend doing returns, I explicitly asked about the change in policy, and I was told the change is only for in-store items, that online items would still be accepted within 60 days. Not sure if that had been mentioned previously
ReplyDeleteWell, I was just suckered into buying something from final sale. I am crossing my fingers it doesn't end up biting me in the you-know-where. I got the stretch double-serge pencil skirt in mink (sized down on suggestion of Gigiofca, A Bigger Closet, etc). I have been looking for a brown-ish pencil skirt for a while, and it seems like pencil skirts are one thing that are safe bets with j.crew...here's hoping I don't end up being a final sale fool!
ReplyDeleteIn Alexis' absence, my nomination for Questionable Item of the week: Shearling zip hoodie, no. 31159. Price/quality rapport: negligible.
ReplyDeletewff: good call! With that price tag one would have to wear it 24/7 none stop to justify cost per wear. I bet it's still Made in China.
ReplyDeleteI bit on a denim pencil skirt from the final sale this morning. I've already got a shipping notification for it. I don't think I would have picked it up if I didn't get the free shipping email. I haven't bought anything for over a month, and the last time I did it was just to use my rewards card.
ReplyDeleteina - I take S in J Crew sweaters and that size fit well in the Tasca. It's a cute sweater. I agree that it's easy to snag, so take care.
ReplyDeleteHeidi - I believe the policy has been posted as a rumor, but no official word/post from J Crew. Apparently if the topic of returns comes in in conversation when you're in the store, they will mention it. Otherwise they're 'not allowed' to post info on it. That sounds asinine but whatever. You think they'd want to let customers know in advance. BR has changed their policy back to 60 days. They communicated very clearly that it was changing to 30 days, but have done a poor job of letting people know it's back to 60. I almost all but stopped going in the store after the 30 day experience.
AppGal - I think the skirt will look good on you :-)
Although I am not a big fan of them changing their return policy, I was happily surprised today... when the j crew alecia leather pumps I ordered last week on final sale came in today I was SO disapointed to find out they were too small (I'm in between an 8 and an 8.5...def go bigger if you are too!). I called and plead my case and not only are they sending me the right size and allowing me to return, they even gave me the sale price for the exchange even though final sale is over! Also, Haya pullover hoodie is SO comfy. :)
ReplyDeletesweetsy, there used to be a bunch of them up on the now-defunct Google Catalogs (mainly from the early 2000's). I'd love to see some 2005-2006 ones, I didn't start collecting until January 07. An online repository would be super!
ReplyDeleteJulieY,
ReplyDeleteYes, but regardless there is NO store credit after these time lines. Nada. Nothing. That is what hurts and why I won't be shopping JCrew much anymore.
It is my understanding that Talbots has a 90 day return policy. After that no store credit either but 90 days I can live with those terms.
ReplyDeleteJCrews 30 day instore and 60 day online returns with receipts only and no store credit after that time and no store credit without recipts during the 30 or 60 day time just sucks rocks!
I was working out today and grabbed an old issue of some trashy mag to read on the elliptical (don't judge - I forgot my iPod and needed a distraction and there wasn't much selection). I think it was an April issue and I don't recall the name of the mag.
ReplyDeleteThey had a "Fashion Crimes" section, with a photo of Martha Stewart wearing - wait for it - SEQUIN PANTS!! Guess she was trying to emulate Jenna. She looked awful. One of the comments said something about Elvis wanting his pants back...
Mia, nooooooo, that's awful. I've seen Martha wearing some youthful clothing on her show and it's...shall we say, interesting.
ReplyDeleteI noted some of the price changes in this post.
