The yet-t0-be-released coat ($298.00) is a wool-and-cashmere combination. Real Simple shares the following too:
Chic 1950s StyleI like the color of the coat, but I am not liking the shape or style. In particular, that flap seems like it would bother me when the weather is windy or super cold.
Get the look of a vintage find (minus that musty smell) with this retro-inspired coat in rich hunter green. It has a surprisingly flattering silhouette, thanks to a draped neckline and a body-grazing, columnlike cut.
What are your thoughts on the coat? Do you like the shape & style? Will you get it? :)
I love the look of the coat but would have to see it in person & try it on. It's an interesting color, too. Wonder if it will be an online only item?
ReplyDeleteArmy green is everywhere these days! I like the color but am not crazy about the shape either. It seems as if it might have a boxy/shapeless fit and would need to be belted (like everything else). But who knows, J. Crew always manages to surprise me so I may end up loving it once I see it IRL :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview post Alexis! While I'm crushing on the colour and Canada is coat country, don't think I will even try PTTO (paying to try on) since cut seems a bit shapeless looks like those big patch pockets would hit in an awkward spot.
ReplyDeleteThe pockets ruin the line of the coat. Otherwise, I think it is a very cute shape and nice color.
ReplyDeleteAlexis,
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. That flap does not look like it would withstand a blast of winter wind! LOL. Pass.
Not sure about the shape, but I do like the color. Hopefully my B&M will get it in so that I can see it IRL. :)
ReplyDeleteJust saw this in-store. It's a boxy, frumpy no-no.
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, there are some really pretty cashmere colors as well as a charcoal skirt with black lace overlay (over $200, so I passed).
it looks like a great not-full-term-maternity coat for when you're just starting to show. Huzzah! I don't dig the green tho - i'm sure it will come in black.
ReplyDeletethe coat seems to suit RealSimple real well.
ReplyDeleteJust saw this in store also. Oh, dear. It does indeed look like Dear Leader is testing the waters for J.Crew Maternity.
ReplyDelete@WFF: LOL! Someone just yesterday at JCrew facebook page was asking about the maternity line. What ever brings in more $$ Dear Leader is onto it.
ReplyDeleteI do like the color but not much of the shape. Besides where I am in the country we barely get to wear coats.
Not crazy about it, looks like a painter's smock. Would like to see in on a model and accessorized....
ReplyDeleteLOL, I was thinking "maternity" too! I believe I saw this at the concept store. I was in and out too fast to really look around, but they were putting out the first holiday rollout. Nothing spectacular that caught my eye, except a nice bright orange in the cashmere and the Milo peacoat (I think it was Milo - don't quote me. Definitely a peacoat)
ReplyDeleteDon't like the patch pockets at all. I think they cheapen the look of the coat.
ReplyDeleteNothing about this coat appeals to me. I don't like the drab color, the boxy shape, the pleats, the oversize pockets, the flappy collar. Maybe it will look good styled and on a model but I'm skeptical. Ick.
ReplyDeleteJMO of course. I'm always thankful we don't all like the same thing.
Will reserve judgement till I see it on a model. Hard to tell what it's suppose to look like on a slab of ice.
ReplyDeleteI already purchased the Milo and they would be hard pressed to beat that in my opinion. Definely the best peacoat I have seen in years.
ReplyDeleteI have pics of this and the Trudie coat on my blog here. Enjoy!
