Once I was having lunch at Michael's with Grace Mirabella when a man came up and introduced himself as Mickey Drexler. Mickey was the CEO of the Gap for many years and had just moved over to J.Crew. He said he was a big fan of the show. 'Well, I'm a big fan of what you did with the Gap,' I said, 'and I can't wait to see what you do at J.Crew.' (As we know now, he did an amazing job repositioning that brand.) The next day, I received a handwritten card from Mickey Drexler with a 30 percent off J.Crew Friends and Family discount card for life.A-m-a-z-i-n-g story. That really is one great perk! Could you imagine having a 30% off discount card at J.Crew... for life!?!

Too cute;)
ReplyDeleteI. would. DIE. if I had a card like that!!! Oh my goodness. What a cute story... Tim Gunn is a very lucky man.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to become best friends with Tim Gunn! I love him! How lucky!
ReplyDeleteOh cool. I wonder if Mickey made him sign his name on the back of the card when he handed it to him?
ReplyDeleteCute story! :)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Tim used it to buy the bridesmaids' dresses?
ReplyDeleteI want one!!! I want one!!
ReplyDeleteIn my dreams! I would do some serious damage at J.Crew with one of those cards. Not that I don't spend enough there already.
ReplyDeleteAnyone think Tim Gunn actually uses the card?
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute story!
ReplyDeleteChristy: LOL! {P.S. It can not be sold or transferred.}
I so love Tim Gunn. I have to get my hands on this book.
ReplyDeleteI don't even watch the show but I like this guy. I need to get in the list at the library for his new book.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Alexis deserves one of those cards!
That card would be DANGEROUS!
ReplyDeletethat's amazing!
I am 18th in line at my library to get this book. I can wait:). Should be fun to read!
ReplyDeleteLove him to bits & what a great story!
ReplyDeleteWhen I read that the first time I went bonkers.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the subject of "Tim Gunn's Golden Rules". Delightful! Tim has a unique style of writeing that truely reflects the way he actually speaks, full of nifty amusing ancdotes.
I am also proud to say that I got the auther himself to sign my copy!
PearPicker, did you meet Tim Gunn at a book signing? I would have totally gone. I bought his book the first day it came out and I agree, he has a very friendly style of writing and I bet he is a hoot as a friend.
ReplyDelete30 percent off Made in China is not exactly a perk for Mr. Gunn who can afford the genuine and finest that fashion houses have to offer.
ReplyDeleteI know comments like this will ensure I'll never get a red card!!
wow....I really like Tim Gunn..he is one of us,enjoying things that are well made. But I still am very jealous! By the way-how fun would it be to talk clothes with him? His book sounds like a fun read.
ReplyDeleteI saw him today at J C Penney's Liz Claiborne show at the mall (in Frisco, near Dallas). He is Chief Creative Officer of that department I hear. There's JC Penney headquarter in the area, and Liz Claiborne became JC Penney exclusive. I should've stayed and gotton his book signed...There were also cocktail and food...you get to take a picture with him if you spend $65 Liz merchandise but my kids were so hungry & bored so I had to leave.
ReplyDeleteOMG would do anything (well, maybe not anything, but close) to have a 30% off JCrew for life....!
ReplyDeleteI am in line at number 111 for Gunn's book at the libarry!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth,
ReplyDeleteYES.
I did meet Tim Gunn,
for 5 seconds, tops,
but I did meet him.
It was still worth the wait because watching the window display contest was nifty and there was damn good people watching to be had.
Oh and Ibi,
Tim Gunn buys most of his suits from Bannana Republic.
