"Thanks!" to many of you, including Jeff, Naomi, & Anon at 3:04 AM (in this post), as well as K (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew has another promotion. {yey!}
J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code JAN2009. This offer expires 1/4/09. Incidentally, I noticed many sale item prices have been *reduced*. {another yey!}
What are your thoughts on the current offer? Will you shop online or shop in-stores (to take advantage of the additional 30% off)?
Wow...still no reduction in prices....
ReplyDeleteQuestion for anyone-
ReplyDeleteWas looking to purchase the Astrid Floral Ruffle jacket, but noticed in the my catalog it has ruffles on the sleeves and the one offered online does not..?
Any clue on why the discrepancy?
Thanks in advance.
OH..also many items are indeed discounted, not obvious unless you click on actual item.
For example: this coat was 129, now 99. Bow sweater was 49, now 39 and more-so do check it out.
:)
This fs expires Sat. so I assume that there will be no new percentage's off (if any) until this code expires. I will pass.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone own the berry Maggie. I was curious about the brightness of the color IRL and the versatility of matching the color. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOT: I am looking for tissue turtlenecks in a size S, preferably black, white, and dark slate. Does anyone remember their store having any?
ReplyDeleteTysons Galleria still has a number of tissue turtlenecks left as of yesterday but I didn't pay attention to specific sizes. I recall seeing black left though. best of luck!
ReplyDeleteclassic_style: Orlando had a ton of tissue turtlenecks when I was in there last Friday...not sure of sizes, though. 407-226-9732 HTH! :)
ReplyDeleteclassic_style -
ReplyDeleteThe Copley Place, Boston store had a TON of tissue turtlenecks on sale this past Friday, but I didn't really check out sizes/colors. They're a big store so you may have some luck. Their number is 617-236-5950 if you want to give it a try. Good luck!
Nope, not for min. of $150. The Walnut Creek store had a charcoal berry astrid jacket in size 4 on sale on sunday.
ReplyDeleteAs an FYI, you have to click on "sale" before you see the free shipping screen. I didn't see any reductions in the items in my cart, but I will probably pull the trigger with this offer.
ReplyDeleteIt's really not a great deal for free shipping when the B&Ms have 30% off. I will have to pass and hope for a better deal.
ReplyDeletethere is nothing I'm crazy about except the rivington tall boots which popped up today in espresso in my size. But I won't be surprised if they add a % off tomorrow. EVERY other retailer is offering an extra % off. What up JCrew?
ReplyDeleteHILARIOUS!!! I'm surfing the JC site and suddendly a bunch of new sale stuff shows up and the prices are falling!!! Maybe the longer I look at stuff the better deal I'll get! Hee, hee...if I wait long enough it will be FREE (okay...totally dreaming, but you know what I mean!)
ReplyDeleteLeaderboys,
ReplyDeleteThe berry maggie is an interesting color, not quite the orange that my computer monitor makes it look, but a little on the pink side. I would have to describe it as strawberry, and it is heathered. It is somewhat a bright color. You will definitely stand out in a crowd.
HTH,
Kate
Does anyone know how the cashmere femme sweater fits? I am between a medium and large. Medium for heavier knit sweaters and large for fine knit like the merino rose or merino melanie cardigan.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Leslie - wow they have added a lot of stuff since I last stalked the site like 10 mins ago -LOL - but unfortunately nothing I want is coming down in price
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have the Crawford blouse, preferably in black? I LOVE the pictures, but am generally wary of sheer shirts and am wondering how sheer it is. And since it's final sale, I can't get it and return it.
ReplyDeletenot good enough. I'll keep passing.
ReplyDeleteLots of Sherpa hoodies in Atlantic
ReplyDeleteFeather sash belts available.
I know people have been looking for these.
HTH

ReplyDeleteOT: I got the roughed out leather belt for Christmas, however it was missing half the stitching. Awesome. I'm going to return, but they don't even have my size anymore online. I'll guess I drive over to pentagon city to see if they have it in store.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, how does the stitching on a leather belt fall out?!!
Maggie is restocked in black in some sizes. The brighter colors have reduced in price.
ReplyDeleteSorry, make that just the berry Maggie reduced in price.
ReplyDeleteHi, JCrew, what about a "Turkey" promo 2nd edition -without the mess-ups?
ReplyDeleteMendy... I think the Cashmere femme sweater fits TTS. You will probably want a medium, unless you have a really large chest, because it'll be hard to get the part with the seam over your chest... I have a D chest but I still managed to get my normal size, so I'd say unless your chest is bigger than that, go with the medium. HTH.
ReplyDeleteGot the double serge skirt in ivory that finally came back in my size. Figure it was worth it even without any additional discount (except free shipping due to a cute "ride along").
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help on the tissue tnecks ladies. I called all those places and no one had any smalls. Blah :P If anyone sees any, please let me know!
ReplyDeleteI will not be buying anything unfortunately. I'm sick of all the same old clothes they have on the site!
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of the lightweight trouser jeans, size 6 tall. I wore them 2 or 3 times but they are just too big. They are in like new condition. If anyone is interested, make an offer; I'd love to see them go to a new home.
emilyeeg at gmail
classic_style- You could also try Bellevue Square 425 451 2739 and University Village 206 523 6066 in Washington. Both these store had tons of tissue tees over the weekend (particularly U Village) and they always have lots of small sizes.
ReplyDeleteOK, does anyone know why an item will show up as out of stock only to turn up the next day as in stock? It is confusing and frustrating. I ordered the Alpaca Kennedi jacket when it popped up the other day (after having been shown as sold out for days!) and since I place my order it has bounced back and forth (sold out/available). I don't get it! AHHHHHHHH! Will I get my item? My order still shows as "OPEN".
ReplyDeleteI still have 18 things in my shopping cart waiting for 30% or more + free shipping:) The new free ship code is not that exciting as we have had one for some time on purchases over $150. I must say that J Crew had really stepped up the shipping process, I ordered a bunch before the holidays and they arrived VERY quickly and some with FREE overnight shipping!
ReplyDeleteTwiga
troycrazy8 : It's VERY sheer (like lingerie sheer). You must wear a tank/cami underneath. Also, I sized up from 4 to 6, so 6 fit perfect. It's also slimming because it ties higher on the waist. I'd buy it now if I had someplace to wear it.
ReplyDeleteTry "A Bigger Closet" blog site. She reviewed it with IRL photo's.
I'm so nuts. I saw the post & the 60% off & thought it was an add'l 60% off the current sale. Didn't figure out my misstep until I did mock checkout...Duh! Oh well, I was excited for all of 4 mins. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat is the golden cyprus color like IRL?
ReplyDeleteConstance, I saw the roughed-out belts in my b&m and they are also missing stitching.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me whether the P2 is truly equal to a 0, and the P4 is a true 2 - or slightly smaller than the regular size equivalents? I'm borderline petite. TIA!
ReplyDeleteI guess I should size down in the Lille (from 2 to 0) but I'm not sure if I can take the P4 if it's actually a real 2. But if it's slightly smaller than a 2, the p4 might work. TIA!
Mendy-
ReplyDeleteI think the cashmere femme is TTS. I would go medium. The sweater itself is a bit sheer so you may want to put a cami under it if you get one in a lighter color- this was the case for me when I bought it in oatmeal.
HTH
Argh!!! My shopping bag dumped everything all of a sudden even though things weren't necessarily sold out. But by the time I got back to some things, they were sold out. JC website sucks.
ReplyDeleteanon@10:40: Thanks so much for the info! I was able to find a dark slate and a white tissue turtleneck in size S for 30% off $19.99 plus my student discount. I am still looking for black, but I am so glad I was able to find the white and dark slate :)
ReplyDeleteDanielle: golden cypress is like yellowy olive color. It's not green, and it's not yellow. I wish I could be more precise, but that's how I remember it, haha. HTH!
ReplyDeleteThere are has been an update in the sale stock available, and I also noticed a couple of price reductions.
ReplyDeleteThe Boucle Tweed Short Scarf Coat dropped from 229 to 179. The Wool Cashmere Carrie Coat had a similar drop in price.
OT- Does anyone have Issy sweater-jackets? Is it TTS? Should I size up/down? TIA!
ReplyDeleteThe offer's not really good, and most prices haven't changed. One jacket I'm interested in (deco dot) is down to $99 from $149, but I still need a percent off to try it with a final sale. Has anyone bought this jacket?
ReplyDeleteUpdate: I found the black tissue tneck in a size S at another store, and it is on its way to me. Thanks to all who helped :)
ReplyDeleteclassic style:which store?--I am looking for a couple xsmalls.
ReplyDeleteanon@11:37: I found the black one at the Whitehall store in Lehigh PA. 610 264 3612. She said it was the last one, but it's worth a shot. I found white at Bellevue Square 425 451 2739, and dark slate at University Village 206 523 6066, both in WA. All of those stores are having an extra 30% off final sale. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks classic_style.
ReplyDeleteI am nervous to order it because of "final sale" but I am really drawn to that color. One more question, what color skin tone do you think it would look best on?
a little OT: has anyone used the personal shopper? what are your thoughts on the service?
ReplyDeleteDeco dot jacket fits on the small side, though it is definitely cute. I returned it because it didn't fit but never reordered it in a different size. I'm not sure I would buy it FS. Do they have it B&M?
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sad, pathetic way for JCrew to ring in the New Year....we have had free shipping now for a while on $150+ so nothing new...
ReplyDeleteI'm saving my Gift Cards and $ on this one, waiting for a better promo.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I found a ton of Fabulous vintage wool cardis and t-necks that at a thrift store. They look like they've been folded up in a little old ladies sweater drawer for the past 40yrs. Hooray!!
So, sorry J.Crew but I'm not tempted by the free ship. Maybe a % off in the future will do it.
JCrew's website is DOWN...WHY???
ReplyDeleteThis promo sucks!
Is it just me...J.Crew site is down...as of 12:03 EST.
ReplyDeleteOk, site back up...12:05EST.
ReplyDeleteI am really disappointed in their sale as well. Banana Republic had an add'l 20% off everything sale in their B&M yesterday. I snagged a black leather purse on sale orig $270 marked down to $95 including the tax. Wow!!! I am totally coveting some of the J.Crew boots (glenbrae suede flat) but not ready to spend $199 on them without more of a price cut.
ReplyDeleteFor those looking for the Berry Trim Astrid, jcrew.com shows a size 2 in Bright Blue, and a P6 in Plum, $169.99. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of the aficionadas on this thread. Free shipping on stale sale items won't tempt me. I'm planning on making a trip to the B&M to return a few items - so I'd rather see if I can snap up some % off goodies with my edu disc. instead. Most esp. if they insist on running the FS again.
I know that you can phone in size request etc., however that seems like an awful lot of trouble to add to a customer's shopping exp. Honestly, if you can't try something on, why take the risk? It's additionally frustrating when the item isn't available instore (re petite, tall, suiting etc.). I think JCrew should offer courtesy shipping for items not stocked instore all the time, not just with promos.
Ooops, this ended up being longer than I intended. Please just add me to the "Not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent" group.
Maybe we'll get luck & JCrew will have a New Years resolution to improve their customer support :}
Happy Shopping everyone,
Heather:D
anon @ 11:32 AM: I have the Issy jacket and find it TTS. I really like it. Note that the wool is a little itchy, but i think it's worth the purchase at a discounted price.
ReplyDeleteI have the Issy sweater jacket and I find it fits true to size. I have it in the same size as all my other J. Crew sweater jackets - in fact the same size as all my other J. Crew tops. I am very happy with it. The collar is very flattering.
ReplyDeleteI was just on the site and don't see the promo at all. I wasn't going to buy anything but just noticed that.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone own the Harriet Wool-Cashmere Coat? How does it fit? I've read Gigi's Gone Shopping's blog with her review on the coat and the coat and I agree with her, the coat looks "bathrobe-like". But I can appreciate that everyone's got a different body type and I'm hoping that someone here owns one and can give me another opinion (or a few different opinions) on the coat. TIA!
ReplyDeleteDanielle: I ordered a Jackie cardi in golden cypress because it was $23.99 when I ordered a bunch of stuff with the JINGLE code. It was backordered and will be arriving probably by the end of the week. I had seen it in the store and I remember that I thought it would look good on me. I am pretty fair complected; I am usually the second to lightest shade in whatever foundation I use. Really, I think it would look good on anyone with warm undertones. I got it while the final sale was suspended though ... I can understand your hesitation with the return of the dreaded final sale.
ReplyDeleteCrew Girl in Canada, I have the Harriet coat and love it (I'm actually wearing it today!). I found it to fit TTS, and I personally like the big (but not TOO big) collar and belt. I'm in the Northeast and like to be able to wrap myself up in a coat and this one fits the bill. I don't think you'd have to size up if you wanted to wear a thick sweater underneath, since it is a tad oversized. Try doing a search for "Harriet" on the main page and you may come up with more reviews as well - I think I wrote a more in-depth one when I received the coat.
ReplyDeleteI really like the cafe capris and the Madison pant. Would I like the Claire pant? Can anyone comment on the Claire pant especially as compared to the cafe capri and the Madison? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI recall someone looking for the Morgan Cozy sweater, there is one online in size S, heather mist, $129.99. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteAnyone purchased and have any thoughts on the Duchamp Astor? TTS? Warm?
ReplyDeleteThank you Silver-Lining! I really like the large collar and buttons. I don't own a jacket with a tie belt and I fear that the belt would make me look thick in the waist. Do you normally wear yours belted or unbelted? How would it look unbelted? Also, how warm is it?
ReplyDeleteOh this is hard!
ReplyDelete1. Plum berry astrid
2. Combo of cloud lulu peep toes and Jamie bag
3. Tie for Cloud necklace and persimmon gold bauble necklace
Runner ups: candy tees, rose tee
Favorite color: chartreuse
Questionable item: The Website!

classic style:
ReplyDeleteSanta Monica (3rd Street Promenade) in California had black tissue t-necks in black. I can't remember any other colors. They were $9.99 with 30% off.
Cleo26--
ReplyDeleteThe Duchamp Astor is darling! It is not very warm, unfortunately, and in the blistering cold would not be the best move, but mine is stowed for Fall '09! It fits TTS (I am usually a med/4/6) and the fabric does not give so I see it maintaining its shape.
One notable point-I am 5'10" with impossibly long limbs and the bracelet length was just perfect, so if you are shorter (or have shorter arms) they may hit you at a full length. Good luck!
anon @ 7:49am- catalogs are made 1 year+ in advance. the jacket in the catalog was a sample and the floral cuffs were removed for retail.
ReplyDeleteThe site is down again....
ReplyDeleteAnd back up again....
ReplyDeleteThanks anon@1:01! I actually found the black tneck earlier at another store. I appreciate your help though :) This blog is great!
ReplyDeleteleaderboys,
ReplyDeletei have the berry maggie and it goes well with browns and denim. IRL the color is not as bright as on the website. check out the polyvore site for ideas!

I'm interested in buying the Maggie jacket but I'm stuck between a size 10 or 12. I have the velvet Ecole jacket in a 10 and its just a tad tight. My bust measurement is a 38 but my waist is a 29...I'm afraid of too much fabric if the jacket is naturally too big. I orders the wool cashmere harriet coat off the last sale in a 12 and it was HUGE...
ReplyDeleteI totally love the feather dress that has been stuck at $199 for weeks...again, not sure what size to get...???
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI am almost 5'9 and considered by most to be tall and thin. I have DD bust(real), but wear a 6size on the bottom.
CLAIRE pant...love these! They look very Audrey to me! I also love the cafe capri, however the Claire pant is longer. It hits right above the ankle and are very tapered as well. I think they look very stylish. I have them in black and br. khaki
HARRIET COAT
There are some strong opinions on this coat...I love, love, love it! I am a tall girl with shoulders and a chest to carry it off, however small on the bottom, and the tie belt really pulls it in, but I definitely do not think there is too much fabric for me. I wear a size 10 in it perfectly! I have the heather acorn, and am contemplating returning the navy. I only paid $79.99 for the navy, but I have bought SOOOOOOO much that I do not think I need to keep both! UGH, I don't know!
Hope this helps!
Athena
Hey There,
ReplyDeleteIf anyone sees Trixie heels out there size 10 - the site hasn't had them for weeks - would love to get them - almost any color :) Please let me know! Thanks!!
I wear the Harriet belted and don't find it to be overly bulky (I'm a 2 and purchased the coat in a 2). Unbelted, it looks more like a Plaza coat, but still cute. It's warm enough for winter in upstate New York on most days, but not as soft as I expected wool-cashmere to be. I actually have a 100% wool JC coat from 2006 that's softer (and definitely better quality than any of their 2008 coats) - perhaps it's the subpar quality of their cashmere that makes the wool-cashmere blends a little ratty-looking/not so soft?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'd consider the Harriet a decent buy for the price it is now - at full price? No way. It's funny, based on the 2008 quality on a lot of JC's pieces, I'm wishing I bought more in 2006 - the stuff I have from then looks great and has held up.
Anon at 0208...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the imput on the harriet. I am also 5'9 w/DD bust and wear an 8 on the bottom. I ordered the 12 Tall Harriet but I guess the coat is not a slim cut like I was expecting. I should have went with a 10. Any advice on how the dresses fit with your chest size? With a bra on I am about 38" around...the size charts puts me at a 12...
Anon 1:57-
ReplyDeleteIf you can try ordering the Maggie jacket in both sizes. You can call CS and tell them about your concern and they will make a note on your account and allow you return the jackets if they don't work out size wise. It is a little bit time consuming between calling CS and making the returns but at least you won't get stuck with something that doesn't fit.
The site is very, very slow right now. Another crash on the way perhaps?
ReplyDeleteIt crashed!
ReplyDeleteOT: I bought the Daphne dress and I am looking at purchasing a pair of Grey suede pumps from Nine West to match?
ReplyDeleteDoes this work in your opinion?
Hey anon @ 2:14,
ReplyDeleteThe fit of J.Crew dresses are such a toss-up for me. I honestly do not have much success with any kind of dress that is not knit/jersey or contain lycra because of the significant difference between my chest and hips. I did purchase the watercolor wool dress from this past fall in a size 10, and it was roomy in the hips (not terrible)and it also gapped at the sides so that my bra was visible. I stick to the stretch jersey dresses like the bateau jersey and Adelaide. I buy a M if I want them a bit shorter and fitted, and a L if I want them loose.
If you are really unsure, have you tried calling customer service to place the order and explaining the uncertainty with sizes? Maybe they would give you a "one-time courtesy" and be nice enough to document this on your order so that if you must return it, it will be permissible. I honestly believe that JC's sizing does vary significantly, so maybe you can give it a shot if there is an item that you REALLY want to try.
Athena
Anon @ 1:02 PM: Thank you very much for the information! Did you purchase the 4 or the 6?
ReplyDeleteI am in between sizes in most J. Crew jackets, and can never be sure which will work better for me. I just recently received the Maggie jacket and can't decide on the size as i find this jacket very fitted. In part it will depend on what i wear underneath. With the smaller size, i can wear no more than a lightweight shell. I'm leaning toward returning both, though, since i think i want a more vibrant color.
Does anyone have the Shimmer peacock jacket? I am just wondering about the fit and exactly how "shimmery" it is.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/outerwearandjackets/jackets/PRDOVR~10035/99101604409/10035.jsp
20% off was a better deal.
ReplyDeleteCrew_Girl_In_Canada: I own the Harriet Wool-Cashmere Coat in Camel. I purchased it after reading GigiofCa's review so I was a bit nervous about it.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the coat needs to be sized down a whole size. I am normally a size 2 in outerwear and went with a size 0 for the Harriet (which was by accident when I ordered it, but worked out great in the end). If you don't size down, I totally understand how it becomes a bathrobe. ;)
The coat does not have a lot of form fitting structure on its own, so you do need to use the belt to cinch the waist (and create a more tailored look). I have also found that if I scrunch the extra fabric on the back of the coat, it creates a really lovely look- tailored A-line in the front, with a bit of poof from the side (for my bum- which shows off a more slender waist).
I hope this all helps. :)
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about purchasing the Alabaster Tweed Coat, but I want to ask for opinions first with the FS. Have there been any previous reviews on here that I've missed? How is the sizing? I'm usually a pretty "true" 2. How is the fabric, and how warm is the coat? I am always cold, so I already know I'll have to layer it up. :)
Thanks in advance for your help, and Alexis I love this site!
OT: I apologize about being off-topic, but I had to share. :) I found two stores in CT had the Victoria Ruffle (long sleeve) shirts on sale. The Striped Victoria ruffle shirt was on sale (in Canton, CT) for $69.99. The solid black version (in Farmington, CT) was on sale for $59.99. Both prices before 30% off.
ReplyDeleteSo chances are, your local store may have the shirts on sale too. :)
P.S. The Canton,CT store didn't have any shirts left. But the Farmington, CT store had lots of the solid black shirts left in size 2, one in size 0, and I think one in size 10. :)
katherinek,
ReplyDeletei got the alabaster when it first went on sale and i thought i'd fall in love with it...i mean the tweed fabric is absolutely gorgeous but i found it to be sized quite big and its a heavy thick coat so it's not too form-fitting even with the belt. i have two harriets and i love the style but the alabaster is much thicker and i think the color made me look bigger than i was...it's going back today for me. i think maybe someone really tall and slim would pull it off nice with some skinny jeans but i'm petite, 5'2...it felt like the coat was wearing me LOL
OT: Has anyone seen the Cashmere Harper Sweater in Chiffon IRL, and if so...can you comment on the color? TIA!!!
ReplyDeleteDear Athena/Anon 2:08,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input on the Claire pant. I am sized similarly to you - tall and slim with a much larger top than bottom - and I am such a fan of the cafe capri that I think the Claire pant will be a good buy for me. And British khaki and black are the colors I am considering!! There seem to be a lot left and I was just wondering if there was something weird about them that I was missing.
Thanks again,
Anon 12:41
OT - I really enjoyed reading everyone's posts on what they wore for Christmas... it would be great to see what people are wearing for New Year's Eve and Day! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm considering the Boucle scarf coat. Since it is FS I need some help please.
ReplyDeleteTTS? Roomy?
Anyone have issues with the scarf or is it pretty easy to tie and have it look nice?
How are the cuff sleeves?
TIA
Sorry, OT. Suilove: I just visited the Princeton, NJ store today. They still have my 6.5 dusty rose spectators in dusty rose. They're having 30% off fs plus the educator discount if applicable.
ReplyDeleteThey had a bunch of random-sized shoes that seemed to be online returns like my spectators. I scored the high-heel glenbrae boots in dark maple for less than $100!
The website sales just aren't as good as the b&m sales. The glenbraes are still $260 online.
Hi! I am looking for a size 4 striped victoria ruffle shirt in black. Has anyone seen these in your store?
ReplyDeleteAlexis I called the Canton and Farmington, CT stores but had no luck.
Does anyone own this shirt? If so, how are you liking it?
I tried the boucle coat and found it TTS. I loved the color, the cuffs and weight of the boucle.
ReplyDeleteThe scarf can be tied in a number of ways and i think it's easy. I do prefer the way the scarf is tied in the J.Crew image without the model, but keep in mind that the neckline is a tad lower when tied this way.
KatherineD - I purchased the Alabaster tweed too. Mine was returned yesterday. The two reasons I returned mine: The belt was really high on me. It belted at the bottom of my ribcage, well above my waist. The arms were very slender like most J Crew arms are. I find this OK with shirts, but extremely unforgiving with coats.
ReplyDeleteA huge thank you to Anon @ 2:09, Anon @ 2:14, Silver Lining and Alexis for all your help on the Harriet. It's really helped me decide to purchase the coat. It just sounds lovely! Thank you once again :)
ReplyDeleteAnon at 4:56 re. BOUCLE SCARF COAT, I just LOVE this coat. I hadn't expect to like it as much as I did. Being almost 5-4" tall, I initially ordered this coat in a P6, but found it too short in the sleeves. Since the cuffs are sewn securely and couldn't unroll them, and since it was somewhat roomy in the chest, I ended up going a size down to the size 2. I haven't received it yet - it should be here in about 10 days (takes forever since I'm in Canada). The scarf is easy to tie. You can also simply toss each end over the opposite shoulder for a "carefree" look. I normally wear a size 4 coat but ordered the 2. I sure hope the 2 fits, if not, I would have to exchange it for the Regular 4. By the way, the color is much nicer in person. Very pretty - not harshly pink as shown online. Hope this helps.
Anony@4:55
ReplyDeleteRegarding Boucle scarf coat.
Do google it as there are IRL pictures and reviews from a couple of other sources.
Also note that others said it ran a tad tight in the chest and I have to agree and I am not big busted (36A) It is more of a jacket for fall/early spring NOT a warm winter coat.
I ordered a size up and am very happy with it! I also got the measurements before ordering and agreed that the chest/bust measurement seemed small for a coat. Hope this helps.
Julie
Yes, please, I am also interested in feedback on the Peacock shimmer coat and the peacock skirt...how shiny are they? And is the print too holiday-ish?
ReplyDeleteJen
Thank you Cleo_26 and JCrew_Girl_In_Canada for your advice on the scarf coat. It really looks lovely and I'm happy to hear there is room in the bust, which I need. I am waiting for a better promo but may just go ahead with the free shipping if nothing pops up soon. Over half the items I had in my cart yesterday are no longer available. :(
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about shipping to Canada. Once I get the shipping email or it says "shipped" on the website, it takes 1 week minimum, usually more like 9 or 10 days, to arrive. Occasionally the package will do a tour of the northern US before finally making it here to Calgary, which can delay it up to three weeks!

I gotta agree with Julie on the bust area. I did find it tighter than normal. Amazingly the shoulders were perfect, and since i am normally between sizes, this explains why i felt it ran true to size for me while others have sized down (save for the bust requirement).
ReplyDeleteRE: BOUCLE SCARF COAT - OK, I must have misunderstood about the bust room. I'll order my usual size then. I can never size down or I can't button the darn thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks all!
anon at 4:55, I find the boucle-scarf coat true to size. The cuffs were the turned-back kind, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThe color is gorgeous, but IMO the coat works best with the scarf worn back around & over the shoulders - not hanging down, that just adds too much bulk. Hope that helps. It's definitely a good price now.
Ahh! Annoying. I ordered the perfect pit scoopneck in a L during one of the sales, then I ordered it again once there was a better deal on it.
ReplyDeleteI finally got both today at the same time (the shirt was backordered). Both shirts are a Large, I laid one against the other and one of the shirts is at LEAST an inch wider than the other. This is disappointing considering they are both marked the same size. From now on I'm ordering two of each item to pick the one that fits best.
anon, what size are you looking for in the boucle-scarf?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know about the fit of the Aubrey jacket? I have the Fiona from last summer and am thinking that I woudl need to order the same size for the Aubrey since the fit seems similar, but the B&M near me does not have any Aubreys. Help!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just came back from the BM store at Soho (Prince St) & I received a 40% off promotion on the jacket I purchased. The jacket itself was not on sale & I didn't see any promotion signs myself. I'm not sure if it's just because of the slight mix up I had with the store, but anyone interested should check the store out.
ReplyDeleteDina,
ReplyDeleteI had the same experience with several J. Crew tops ordered during the recent promotions. I ordered a cashmere turtleneck in Large and it was enormous - a cowl neck, not a turtleneck. I laid it out with a Large turtleneck from a previous year on top of it and it was at least an inch bigger in length, width, arm length, neck width, etc. I placed another order since it was the same price and free shipping and got a much better fitting sweater. Same thing with a merino turtleneck. I have not noticed this issue with other items - just tops. Really uneven QC.
Sidney Bristow - I am looking for a size 10 in the boucle scarf coat.
ReplyDeleteAnon
Jeff-I was at that store over the weekend and the SA told me that the whole store was 40% off. I totally assumed she meant sale/clearance only but maybe it really was regular priced items as well?! In any case, I'm sure you got a great deal!
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I finally received the items I ordered on 12/24 (berry astrid and platinum sheath dress)! I'm glad I received both without any mix up but this will definitely be my last purchase until I make it to the sample sale in 3 weeks...
Anon at 5:14PM: Unfortunately, I didn't see any striped Victoria ruffle shirts in size 4 at either store.
ReplyDeleteThe Canton, CT store didn't have any shirts (in any color or stripe) left (I was told I bought the last victoria shirt).
The Farmington, CT store had lots of the solid black shirts left but in size 2, there was one in size 0, and I think one in size 10 and that was it. I didn't see any in size 4.
I hope you will be able to find the Victoria shirt in size 4. :) I am thinking that because these two stores had them on sale, that other J.Crew stores will put them on sale too. :)
anon looking for the boucle-scarf: Try calling the Michigan Ave. store, it's 312-751-2739. They carry the coat in the store, and then you could get extra 30% off. Good luck :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis :) I have called several stores and every associate has wished me luck in finding the victoria ruffle...everyone is sold out!
ReplyDeleteCelo26 & Anon 12:26pm
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your comments on Issy Sweater Jacket!! It helps me a lot and I bought it!
sidney bristow - I'm in Canada and have never called the stores directly for an item to be shipped. I've used the "find it" service, but I'm not sure the stores would just go ahead and ship it but I will try.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I am looking for merino lea cardigan in grey size xs. If anybody finds it, please let me know. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOT: I went to my local B&M during lunch break. I scored the Wool shift dress (item: 10478, $148) for $20.99 ($29.99 + additional 30% off). This shop carries at least 20 wool shift dresses in black (Carmel CA, TEL: 831-624-2803). Maybe your local B&Ms carry them at the same price. HTH!
ReplyDeleteAbout the shimmer peacock - I ordered the skirt. I took it back. I find the fabric too shiny and silvery for day wear and I don't need a pencil skirt for night wear. I do have the silvered tweed skirt and some other items that are metallic in nature but they are suitable for day and not shiny-shiny. I didn't care for the shimmer peacock at all, others may like it.
ReplyDeleteI know that the lulu flats were online only, but I'm hoping that some were returned to stores. I would love to find this in a 6 1/2. I would take any color, but prefer the gold. If anyone sees these in their b&m, please let me know. TIA
ReplyDeleteAficionadas--i just came back from the NYC Rockefeller store and they have a TON of double serge pencils in Persimmon in a variety of sizes.
ReplyDeleteAlso, all regular priced suiting separates were 40% off--which may explain your discount, Jeff.
Anon, re: Aubrey-
ReplyDeleteI'm usually a P4 or R2, and I thought the Aubrey jacket on the model looked rather boxy and swingy, so I opted to size down and see how it would go. The P2 was actually too large on me! The chest and sleeves were awkwardly puffy, not in the least fitted. I still think the jacket is cute, I just like a more tailored fit, so I've exchanged it for the P0. I'll let you know how it fits when it arrives.
In-store I got a feathered sash belt for $8. I was a bit interested in the matchstick cords and a cardigan, but I didn't buy anything else today. In addition to the 30% the associate honored the student discount. I recently emailed CS about recent online orders, but they would not honor it, citing that I already had one promotion on each.
Issy call the Indianapolis store, 317-848-2739. I saw a number of lea cardigans.
ReplyDeleteI also saw some boucle pink Astrid jackets, a size 6 rose belle skirt, loss of quinn camis and the darker high heel jeans. Hmm gobs more: 120s purple dresses, merino turtlenecks,1 size 0 honey glaze ecole velvet jacket, lots of satin belts with the blue feather(was it blue?). Not many shoes left: 1 pair of glenbrae maple high heel in size 7.5 for $149.99 less 30%. There were also 3 juliet safari Serengeti print pumps: 2 in size 9.5 and 1 in size 10. There was also 1 pr of yellow juliets in 9.5 as well as the dusty rose peep toe heels in 9.5. For some reason a number of 9.5 shoes. I saw a number of ivory madeline coats, some mohair scarves, some gold fleck black wool pencil skirts, pink and beige taffeta a oh and 1 abstract dress in size 10. Rats not my size. There was more but it's hard to remember all. Ps Indy is on eastern time so the store closes at 9p.
Canadian in search of boucle scarf coat: I hope it works. Please let us know :-)
ReplyDeleteAnon about the aubrey - I sized down. I think it's a wickedly chic little jacket.
ReplyDeletejulie,
ReplyDeleteWEIRD>_< i called the princeton NJ store last time and they told me they didn't have it in 6.5 =(=( i'll have to try calling them again. boo.......
as for the boucle scarf coat, i felt that you have to size down because there is just ample room everywhere, esp the length of the arms, bust, and waist..but it just be that i don't layer as much as others...i regret not doing petite.
also, i went to the burlington, ma store and everything was seriously picked over except for the pheobe jackets which they had in every size 99.99 with 30% and i managed to score a victoria ruffle shirt in black for 34 bucks!! so happy!
Dear Alexis:
ReplyDeleteHere's a suggestion for all your readers: Could those kind souls -- the ones who take pictures of outfits -- get photos of retail-only items that they see or like or try on?
I'll volunteer. . . if I ever get to a B&M!
Anonymous 8:03
ReplyDeleteI also live in Canada. A JCrew store will ship in America only. I live on the West Coast so I have both store orders and online orders shipped to a freight forwarder in Washington. It costs me $2.50 to have a box dropped there and then I drive across the border and pick it up. This saves on shipping and the amount of duty and taxes I pay on an order. Further, I get the items quicker than when they are shipped to Canada. Hopefully, you live near a border.
Thank you so much to Anon 8:43. I called the Indy store, they have the lea cardi but didn't wanna honor me with website price :( they said the color they have at the store doesn't really match the one on the website. So dissapointed :(
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where I could find the Boucle Tweed Short Scarf Coat in size petite 0. I've waited too long to purchase and it is no longer available on the site!!!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the difference between the cashmere florette jacket with the chiffon buttons (325.00 on sale for 169.00) and the cashmere florette jacket with the glass buttons (325.00 on sale for 249.99)? Is there a difference in the quality of the cashmere or is the only difference the buttons? Also, can anyone comment on the fit? Thank you
ReplyDeleteCleo26-
ReplyDeleteI ended up with the 6 in the jacket because I'm considerably broad in the shoulders. I love the ambiguity of the pattern. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! HTH :)
J.Crew's site is down again.
ReplyDeleteOT-- but I have a Marmot ladies ski jacket (Triple Trouble model) in XS for sale. I purchased one in XS and one in S and XS doesn't fit. See my blog for more details. I'm going to put up a post in a minute with all the details :) I'm looking to sell for $110 (shipping included).
ReplyDeleteI figured I'd offer to my Aficionadas first!
Even though the shops are picked over, I prefer to buy in-store because they honor my student discount on top of any and all promotions. jcrew.com has refused to honor the discount for over $800 in orders because they say promotions can't be combined. In-store it's my understanding that the Student/Educator discount is a standing policy, not a current offer or promotion. I know what the email fine print says, but all associates are always happy to honor the discount.
ReplyDeleteFYI for those in VA/DC/MD area - I called all the VA/DC (Georgetown, Friendship Heights, Tysons, Pentagon) B&Ms this afternoon, and they are all sold out of the Victoria Ruffle Long Sleeved Shirt - in all styles (black, white and striped).
ReplyDeleteOkay, I couldn't help myself. I just
ReplyDeleteordered the Penny in Honey Glaze, the aubrey in pink, a couple of painter tees - I bought the white at my BM and love it - and now they are on line for much less - and the favorite fit cords in sea salt..... and if you give me a percentage off J Crew with the free shipping I'll order more!!!!!
My new obsession is the floral ruffle astrid which, of course, is no longer available in my size.
OT, but, I'm finally going to wear my cascading flower astrid tomorrow night.
Would love to hear what everyone else is wearing for New Years Eve.
ladolcevita, do you already have a penny and ordered another? I got one, but I find it really tight in the shoulders & I think if I size up, the rest of me is going to look like a tent. Just curious for your thoughts, thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am looking for some skinny patent leather belts in the blue, pink, maybe brown colors. Anyone seen these in any stores? Some colors are online but not the pink. I am looking for size M. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I meant not the blue. Long day! TIA!!
ReplyDeleteOff topic here, but if anyone needs a candy tee, the Green Hills Mall store in Nashville, TN has a ton of the different types.
ReplyDeleteAnyone purchase the Dream Valerie bow cardigan? Any info on the length? It looks like it hits high hip maybe?
ReplyDeleteAnyone looking for the double serge skirts, the crew in santa monica, on 3rd street has TONS. every color.
ReplyDeleteI don't own a penny, but I did try it on at my bm quite a while ago. I ordered a size 6 and I know it will be just fine. I go between a 6 and an 8, but mostly a six. For instance, my andrea is a six, but my berry astrid is an 8 as well as my cascading flower astrid. I think in the penny it would be wise to size down for a more fitted look.
ReplyDeletehello JCAs! anyone here tried the men's cashmere hoodie? how does it fit, please? and what's the cashmere like -- I have several JCrew women's cashmere items from past years and loved the quality but there have been such mixed reviews for this year's stuff. At $250 for the (final)sale price, i want to check before I buy it as a present. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAlso, for those who like jcrew jewelry, i got the bird's nest ring for christmas (yay) in the coral color and love it. it really is beautiful and far more delicate in real life than it looks in the pictures. when i saw the website images i was afraid it would be garish or comical even, like a straggling birds nest sitting on my finger. but the nest part looks like filigree surrounding beads and not super nesty (unless you're told it's supposed to be a bird's nest and then you can see the effect) and the beads are fairly small and clustered. my only concern is that the beads are not set, so i fear they may come unglued with extended wear. FYI on sizing, i got a size small -- the size i usually wear in rings -- and it's a little snug on the ring finger. doesn't fit index or middle fingers. but overall i got lots of compliments on this ring from both men and women. so if you're looking for something unique, i'd say this one's a get.
i hope 2009 brings each of you bounties of wonderful life gifts (and jcrew bargains). happy new year all!
Tif: Yeah, I guess it is 40% off all items then. Surprisingly, there really are no signs promoting it.
ReplyDeleteBarbara: I didn't purchase a suit jacket, but a casual one. Nonetheless, I got a great deal.
I'll be going back tomorrow to check it out again. I still have about $130 left in gift cards anyway. Oh, in case anyone in NY didn't know, tomorrow is the last day before clothing will be taxed again. Damn you Gov Patterson.
Dear aficionadas...I went to the South Coast and Mission Viejo stores and no luck on the Victoria black shirt. SC has a few white ones but no black.
ReplyDeleteAlso, JC better stop having new colors of the Victoria cami...I have 5 now. Saw the salmon color today and couldn't help myself.
And lastly, I managed to get the new catalog and it is nothing too exciting but I like the Lattice cami. Beautiful colors.
Happy New Year!!!
Thank you to those who helped out with the fit of the alabaster tweed coat. I sounds like it might be too big a risk to purchase it FS. Too bad, because it looks so beautiful!
