I've heard that you can now only do a "We will find it" for full price items (in fact a CS told me that they don't even have the option to do it on the computer for sale items). Is that true and/or have any of you been able to place "We will find it" orders on sale items recently? I was able to place one in late September on a sale item (actually I tried on the red phone and got a "we can't do that anymore" response first, only for my mom to try again ten minutes later when I was checking out in line and the second CS didn't even mention it and processed the "We will find it" sale item order for us - which I did get two days later!). Curious to know what yall have experienced - thanks! :)

Himmiefan...I wondered that about the bracelet too since it is made of resin links. However, I called about 20 stores yesterday and the ones that did have said that they were "sold out" as opposed to having the stock pulled. Perhaps it was a tester "floor set" ...limited quantities to see how it sold? If so, it should be back. LET'S HOPE :)

I just wanted to relay a recent experience I had, using the Weekly Exchange post. I have purchased items from a few frequenters of the blog (FFM, Accorn, etc) and have always been pleased with the items, and the experience in general. I'm so glad that this forum is available for these types of exchanges to take place!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, two weeks ago, my sister (she posts here as Smarty) and I purchased some shoes from the poster Suilove. I will say that Suilove was excellent about emails - always responding quickly, always very friendly, etc. We agreed that I was going to purchase these shoes (a pair of Juliet midheels, and a pair of Serengeti peep-toes, that my sister has been desperately searching for) - she sent the paypal invoices, I paid them immediately, we were good to go. During our email correspondence on that Friday (Dec 5), she mentioned TWICE that she was just heading out the door to the post office, to send the package Priority Mail. So, when I had not received the package on Tuesday (Dec 9), I sent her an email checking on the box, since Priority Mail is guaranteed within 3 days, anywhere in the US. She emailed me back on Wednesday, and said that she had not gotten a chance to send them Friday, but had sent them Monday, and that they might take a little longer than usual, because mail only gets picked up in her small town once a day. I was a little irritated, since she had mentioned more than once on Friday that she was on her way to the post office, but I know everyone is busy this time of year, so I let it go. Well, the shoes finally arrived - on FRIDAY. And the label on the box said they had been shipped on Tuesday.
Now, it really wasn’t a big deal that I didn’t have the shoes on Tuesday – I didn’t need them for anything in particular. What bothers me is that she told me more than once on Friday that she was ON HER WAY to the post office. If she wasn’t able to get there, a simple email explaining the situation would have gone a long way. Then, when I asked her straight out about when they had shipped, she insisted they were shipped Monday – which was clearly not the case, since the shipping label showed a ship date of Tuesday. If she had said from the beginning that it might take a couple days to get them shipped out, I would have had no issue – but the repeated lying about when they were shipped really bothers me a great deal. I held up my end of the bargain by paying for the shoes immediately, and I would have appreciated a little honesty on her end, as well.
The rest of the transaction was smooth – as I said, she was quick to respond to emails, very friendly, and the shoes are great. They arrived in perfect condition, and she even sent them to me in a nice duster bag. I appreciated her care in sending them. However, I would think twice before purchasing from her again, as I don’t feel that I can trust her to hold up her end of the deal.
(Just FYI, I informed her that I was going to post this here – since this exchange operates on the basis of trusting one another, I felt a responsibility to let you all know about my experience. I would be upset if someone else had had a poor exchange experience, and didn’t let the group know.)

Christina: If she dropped it off into a mailbox rather than giving it to a postal clerk on Monday, the post office might not have postmarked it until Tuesday if it was after last pick up. So in her opinion, she wasn't lying about that and it could have been shipped on Monday.

Sorry to jump in here, but I feel the need to speak up on behalf of my sister. There was a long email correspondence back and forth between her and Suilove. Having read them all, I don't believe Suilove was totally honest during the transaction. Is she a bad person? No! Of course not. No one is saying that.

As she said, this exchange is done 100% on trust and thought it only fair to let people know about the situation. She's just letting us know to make clear in our transactions what the expectations are for both parties involved.
And, getting back to JCrew, my snowflake tee has sold. :)

ReplyDeleteAdditionally, I believe I stated more than once that I was unconcerned about when I actually received the shoes, and I would have not cared in the slightest if she had been up-front about when she would be able to send them. My problem is that she flat-out lied to me, more than once - even when I emailed her the first time, and said it was no big deal if she hadn't had time to send them on Friday, I just wanted to know when to be looking out for the package, as my mailman isn't the smartest guy around, and has a tendency to put packages in bizarre places that I would never find if I wasn't actively looking. I don't see why she felt the need to lie to me at that point.
I also made a point of expressing all the ways in which I believe the transaction was great, and I complimented her on taking great care in packaging the shoes.
If you think I was being harsh or offensive, that's your prerogative. I was trying to give an honest account of the situation, so that those who might consider buying from her would be informed. I would hope that others would do the same in my situation.

What if Christina was counting on getting the shoes on a specific day? Then the delay in shipping would have caused a problem. Would you all still say "get over it you got the shoes in the end?" I don't think so. I agree with Christina, I would have been less upset if at all had the seller just said "listen I couldn't get the shoes out until so and so" that way I wouldn't be pacing up and down worrying where they are or whatnot.

ReplyDeletebeing a full-time student and having just finished my thesis this week, selling shoes and other things here probably wasn't the best idea. i'm not really too great at it and that explains why i don't have an ebay account and if my "unprofessionalism" was offensive i apologize. good thing i'm not working jcrew shipments.
as for paying for the shoes immediately, if it felt rushed, I had four other people emailing me about getting the juliets (one who offered me more than 20$ extra) and having had a LOT of experience with people emailing me and saying that they wanted an item and then just disappearing...which i'm sure people have different reasons for doing so, and really doing this kind of transaction online...i take no-shows as inevitable but anyway thats a whole another story. i hoped the same kind of understanding would apply for shipping..
as for that and straight-out lying...wow umm I had to urgently return home for the weekend because of personal family circumstances that i will not get into here and I left the shoes with my roommate and relayed the responsibility of sending them to her which I should not have. I go to school in a small little town in NH, and I believe that my roommate dropped off the shoes and put them in a priority box at our school mailing center on Monday and they did not get sent until Tuesday. But I didn't send them myself so I apologize fully for the late shipment as I wrote back via email.
But about posting this and having aficionadas here have to read it, i'm really sorry about this, but i thought i would at least try to get my side across. If there are those who would be weary about buying from me, I would understand and thats that, but for those are looking for items that i do have, i try to offer prices as low as i can since i definitely understand being a buyer here, and i can guarantee and pride on my things being in GREAT condition, if not new and i take great care in packaging them and making sure that a buyer will love the items as i have and get their money's worth.

I only returned it because of my Maggie Jacket purchases, and I could not afford to keep all of them. Realistically, for my lifestyle and also because I live in Florida, I have more opportunity to wear the Maggie jackets, and chose to keep them over the Astor jacket. If I could have kept all of them, I would have. :)

sharkbait: J.Crew no longer allows stacking the student/teacher discount with other codes. They used to do it all the time, but they have stopped. Many of us have tried calling around to different CSRs, but most of us have failed in getting it stacked. Some stores will let you stack it on top of promos and final sale, but others will not. If you stick with the Crew long enough, you will learn that the only thing consistent about J.Crew policies is that they are inconsistent ;)
ReplyDeleteThat said, if you tell them that you would not have placed the order had you known that you couldn't stack, they might be inclined to do it for you as "a one-time courtesy." On the other hand, they might tell you that you are welcome to return your items :P Personally, I have gotten both responses.

ReplyDeletethe policy is actually not to stack discounts, but really... it's up to the store director if you're in store, and they usually have their cashiers trained to do what they like.
However, if you're calling on the phone, from your own house, there's absolutely no way you can get the teacher or student discount because there's no way to verify your ID. If you're using a red phone, you can ask the associates to help you place the order over the phone; this is actually the best choice because they can get you the best deals, let you know if anything is on sale in the catalogue that isn't on sale in store, and they personally have to verify all discounts for the Lynchburg reps if they're in store only and you're ordering it over the phone (if they don't have your size etc.), and also then the associate gets the commission for the sale, so they're usually more than happy to help you.
Also, what happens during the holidays is that the phone representative hires increase, and many of them are working from home instead of from the company headquarters in Lynchburg, so instead of having a supervisor looking over their shoulder, they have to put you on hold to call someone or look up policy, and they cannot leave something to chance. Some of the newer people during the holidays don't know policy very well, but if you have an associate helping you in-store on the red phone that'll be your best bet.
oh also, now the new policy is that all PROMO items do not get free shipping either when ordered in store on the red phone either, something that used to only apply to sale items (items with prices ending in .99)...the difference between promo and sale is that promo could go back to normal price.

the CSR reps do not have the ability on the computers to do we will find it for yous for sale items anymore. there is a new computer system in place (the bad one that crashes a lot...) that is supposed to give live inventory reports, and it does, but if the item is on sale then the option to do a we will find it for you is voided automatically and it cannot be overridden easily. The associate would have to make a special call to the we will find it for you center, and they would have to override it for you, and personally go into inventory computers and look at it for you. Again, if you ever ever want this to happen, your best bet is to go into the store and make really good friends with an associate.
Probably the best bet for all of this is to have a personal shopper, because they can always do price adjustments for you if you're a frequent customer (as I know you all are), and if they know you want something they can order it in advance when they get lookbooks in for the upcoming seasons (I know that a lot of the personal shoppers are going to Spring styling sessions soon, and that some of them had the Holiday books in July). If you're willing to establish a relationship with them then they will really work with you!

Kate- you're not quite right about the student discount over the phone if you're calling from home. I've been told my several associates on several occasions that if you place the order, then call and give your .edu email they will credit you back the 15%. And I've done this several times myself and know that it works.
