J.Crew's Merry Offer: 20% Off and Free Shipping :)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Anon at 12:41 AM and 3carmelos (in this post), who let us know about J.Crew's latest promotion. :)

J.Crew is offering 20% off and *free shipping* on orders of $150+ with promo code MERRY. This offer expires today, 12/19/08.

Are you planning to take advantage of this offer, or wait a bit longer (for better deals), or avoid shopping online (e.g. prefer to shop at their B&M stores)? :)

  1. I am done shopping at JCrew...bought plenty:) I would not even consider going to a mall/JCrew in these last few days leading up to Christmas...insanity!

If the after Christmas sales are truely something remarkable like 60% off then I might think about it...but I can't imagine they will top the deals they had lately.

  2. I agree, I have taken a snapshot of my cart. Nothing there I can't live without but if there is an incredible deal in the next few days I will check out.

If the cart is empty I'll check the snapshot to see if any of my items are still available.

Everything is so picked over, I imagine the January sales will be all Christmas returns.

  3. Is the HURRY code still valid today? I might buy myself a sweater or two, but not $150 worth...

    ReplyDelete
  4. Anon at 8:41 AM: I think HURRY still works today. :)

    ReplyDelete
  5. HURRY worked for me. I managed to get the rhubarb Tartine that came back into stock. Or at least it let me check out with it.

We will see if I get it.

  6. Don't know, will check sales online, but, the BM was pretty picked over, unless people like me are returning online orders, I plan to wait until After Christmas ~ Does JC have a good after Christmas sale? I heard the sa's talking abt who had to work on 12/26.

  7. I just checked out using MERRY - purchased the Tissue chiffon-rosette cami in stone (item #: 10508) for $19.99 and the Cashmere schoolgirl cardigan in Heather Wheat (item #: 86227) for $103.99. {Damn you, Polyvore!} I know for certain the schoolgirl cardigan only had one in stock so we'll see if i actually get it or not.

I went to both B&M stores here in Columbus, OH last night - Easton had a large selection of ugly sweaters obviously no one wanted (don't know the name), but very little else. Polaris is completely picked over - not much left. I heard one SA say the sale section was additional 20% off.

  8. I ordered a scoop-neck painter tee for myself and few t-shirts and socks for my son yesterday with the free shipping. I eying the coats, though. The 20% off wouldn't be bad at all...

  9. For those looking for a Berry-trim Astrid jacket, jcrew.com has one in stock, size 6 in bright blue ($169.99 plus 20% off). Good luck!

  10. Hello,
Does anyone have experience with a tight pair of Juliet Safari shoes?

    I bought a pair in 9M and I should have bought a 9H...! Now, I can't find them anywhere!!

    Any information hugely appreciated:)

  11. I'm pretty much done too. I may look around a bit but my xmas budget is already spent! I'm curious to see how low prices with go after Xmas.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I guess I should have been more clear with my question...

    Will the Juliet Safaris stretch??

    ReplyDelete
  13. Put a fork in me, 'cause I am done. I bought two pairs of grey tights with the HURRY code, which worked out great, but the next time I hit J.Crew it will be with my gift card received for Christmas!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't plan to buy anything more online, but I am going to my local J.Crew this morning to take back some returns. :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. forgot to mention - an order i placed the other day for the Jamie bag in black just shipped out - 2 day shipping! (i'd gotten free shipping but i hadn't requested expedited) i wish it could be christmas all year long. i'd get my orders a whole heckuva lot quicker!

  16. does anyone know how the dream soho fits? tight, short?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oy, considering I mainly buy sale items (very rare occasion do I actually pay full price), I don't beat myself up too much with promo codes like this! Though my bag of returns is huge b/c I order w/o abandon! I think this is #4/#5 order in 6 days.

Note, prices did drop on the:
    Merino trois-rosette tank
    Cashmere Audrey dress

And after missing out on these earlier in the sale, I was finally able to get my preferred size/color in:
    Bouclé tweed Penny jacket
    Rosette tissue top
    Dream Stephanie cardigan

Best of luck to those waiting patiently for sale items to come available again - it will happen as waves of returns start coming in!

  18. The peacock pencil skirt went on sale today, as did the black double-serge, so I grabbed both and used the code.

    Great deals, JCrew.

  19. bkp:

I found the dream soho to run TTS (though I took a small in nearly every dress I bought over the summer from J Crew [most were very forgiving on the bottom] I am usually an 8 or 10 in their dresses, and I took a medium in the soho). It IS pretty short though - I am only 5'2", and it was just below mid-thigh on me. It was just short enough to make me a little uncomfortable - though I know lots of people that were not bothered by the length. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Does anyone have the watercolor crawford cami? I am usually a 2, wondering if I can get away with a 4...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Christina,

Thanks so much. I think I will resist the urge to purchase the dress. the cashmere flora was too short for me too. one thing that always bugs me about j crew is the pants are way too long and the dresses are always too short.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ss~

I am looking at the peacock skirt, not sure what size to get. I am a 2/4, usually xs or 2 on top. I can do a 2 on the bottom if the skirt is fuller, but since this is a pencil, I am wondering if I should stick with a 4...what did you decide to get if you don't mind my asking? TTS?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I caved in and just bought the Primrose Garden necklace. I just need to pair it with a great little black dress, but I am not sure what type of neckline I should wear with such a big and impressive necklace. Any thoughts??

    ReplyDelete
  24. I was in the Burlington, MA store yesterday and they were offering 20% off of everything in the store. Not sure if other stores were offering this or how long it is going to last...I should have asked!

I found the dream soho dress to run a little big. I usually wear a 4 or petite 4 and the small was a little too large on me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. O/T question: I ordered the Dream Soho dress at full-price in November but it was waitlisted uhtil 12/29. It has finally gone on sale. Will JC do a price adjustment on backordered items that have not shipped?

    ReplyDelete
  26. JaneEsq, I am the same size as you, and a 4 pencil skirt is just right. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I went to the Aventura Fl store last night- there was a lot of women's sale, but hardly anything left in smaller sizes. Mostly casual tees and non-cashmere sweaters- very dissappointing overall. Not very many bottoms or dresses. (They did have cords avaliable in sizes 29-32.)There were no shoes, except a few boots and capri sandals. I asked the saleswoman why they didn't have any shoes, and she said they haven't been getting in lately because of the change in seasonal clothing. The prices on the website were cheaper for the most part. I didn't buy anything, just made an online return.

I also went to the brand new Dadeland store last week. That store is tiny! They do not carry any shoes :( The sale section at Dadeland was better even though they had much less sale. At least they had a few blouses, pants and skirts. I didn't buy anything there either, because I felt the deals I found online were much better the past weeks than in-store.

I don't think I'll go back to the stores unless there is some spectacular in store offer. I'll just stick to online for after-christmas shopping.

  28. chris 9:42 depending on how these run--i may be interested in buying form you if oyu would determine to sell. Let me know! TIA

    ReplyDelete
  29. Does anyone have advice on how the pique ruffle henley fits? Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. JaneEsq--I ordered my normal size. I am a petite, so I am hoping it isn't too long since the skirt was made only in regular sizes.

  31. after calling JC for the second time and begging them to help me find a pair of Juliet Safari in 9H (the first request resulted in an immediate response about not being able to locate the item -(not the 24-48hrs it usually takes))
I just received another email stating that they found a pair for me in 9H!

bug pin. once my 9H arrives I will try both on and let you know first, before I return them to J.Crew.

  32. Sooner-girl: I have had that happen with backordered items before, and they charged me whatever the selling price was at the time the item shipped. Actually, on that particular order, I didn't even know the sweater I ordered had been marked down (from $59.99 to $34.99) and was just pleasantly surprised to see the lower price. Of course, since we all know how inconsistent J Crew can be, I wouldn't count on it happening that way - but I would think any reasonable CS would be willing to price adjust it for you (if they charge you full price).

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does anyone have the Lucinda cable cardigan in small caramel? I placed a huge order with the HOHOHO promo and 7 out of the 13 didn't show up! I really wanted this sweater! : ( Please let me know....Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sooner--

That recently happened to me. What I did was call CS and explain it to them. They can cancel your place on the full price waitlist and reorder it at the current price. That's what I ended up doing.

  39. I purchased the Peacock pencil skirt in 2, the cashmere ruffle cardigan in S, light spearmint, and the petite Double Serge pencil skirt in 4P. :-) Enough shopping, I am off to bake Christmas cookies!

    ReplyDelete
  40. OH Chris--they found them for u?!! Maybe I should do this! IS it we will find it? What kind of price are you paying?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh! I bought the double serge in black....

  42. I ordered the peacock pencil skirt last weekend when it was full price but I only paid $82.50 for it b/c I got 30% off and the red card 25% off so I have it to wear on Christmas Eve. I ordered a size up b/c of the pencil style. I have the spearmint cardi and Quinn cami just like the model does to wear with it.

  43. just came back from the jcrew in cambridge... they still have a bunch of stuff.. some of the stuff is marked differently than online but they'll check the prices for you. they had a TON of tees like the crest one w/ sequins and candy tees and belts. all w/ 20% off... not too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  44. bug pin,
i paid $149 for the 9 that I have and I am on the phone with them now to find out how much they will charge me for the 9.5 (should be $104.99 since I bought them with the hohoho 30% off promotion).

I won't believe that I have them until they arrive:)

  49. Still debating what to order. Any thoughts on the Bria, Golden Roses Cami, or Pembridge dot shell since I obviously can't try any of these on in IRL. Thanks so much. I appreciate everyone's comments so much. They make my decisions easier!!

  50. I just used the MERRY promo, I got the peacock pencil skirt, crawford blouse in fushia, and the girls cambon hair clip (from crew cuts, maybe for me, maybe my niece- i have to see it IRL before I decide) for 135$, that is after taxes. What a steal! I had my eye on the skirt since it was $158, getting it for $79 is so awesome! I am glad J Crew is back to sale plus free shipping, even if it is only temporary.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I bought a few things that were already marked down a few times and were low in stock. There is still more that I want, but I will wait until after xmas b/c I am already over budget for December and I am expecting several JC giftcards in my stocking! Hoping they will go back to extra 30% off after xmas (and no final sale please!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Btw, OT, but a suggested post for Alexis: sort of like questionable item of the week...how about ridiculous item seen in the JC Collection store?

Last weekend I went there to return some stuff. In addition to all the JC collection stuff they have on the website, they were selling non-JC branded (was a brand I had never heard before) silk pjs for $600! They weren't even any special design--just basic silk pjs.

Also, they have some non collection items there that are 50% off online or in the regular stores but if you buy it at the collection store it is still full-price...like the ruffle collar cashmere cardi, now $99 online and still $178 at the collection store.

  54. Well, I just received my first screwed up order from J Crew (of the 20 or so orders I've placed since the summer website change, I've not had ONE messed up - til today, and I have TWO that are screwed up!)

Anyways, I ordered the Teagan blouse in black, in an 8 - and of course, the packaging is marked size 8, but the blouse is a size ZERO. Uh, yeah, that's not happening. So, considering the black is sold out in size 0 online, I'd be happy to sell it to another aficionada, if someone is interested. $45 shipped!

    ReplyDelete
  60. yay! i just got my 2nd Jingle order today! and although it was just 3 items, im super happy!

    3 items i truly recommend:
Velvet ecole Blazer! its fitted, simple, and adds a bit of class to your outfit. (i got it in black) i know some of you thought it was quite boxy but in my opinion, for you petite gals like me, it will look great on you!

The dream turtleneck sweaters are warm, and cozy! At 29.99 plus an extra 20% off, YOU NEED TO GET ONE! i got the light spearmint color and it is soft and wintery.

Last item: Favorite-fit stretch vintage trouser cords in sea salt. For the most part it is TTS but the petite was a tad longer than usual. I'm 5'4 but I'll make it work. They're fitted and well, they make my butt look good!

    Happy shopping!!!

  61. I wish J Crew would stop playing games! I just ordered the double serge two days ago using the jingle code but today it was finally marked down. I went ahead and ordered it again with the merry code and saved myself $27. I will have to hassle w/ returning the other one but I figure it's worth it.

  63. anon @ 2:38: I ordered that jacket today in a zero (I read someone it might run a tad big ... can't remember where I read that...) Just search "phoebe" on JC's site and it will come up. 67. Hi all,

Well, I MEANT to be good... Honest!
Then I noticed a cashmere sweater that had my eye on moved into the sale bin (finally). Then the MERRY coupon came along. Lastly, the serge skirt that I love went on sale in black (at last). So I just had to pick them up, all for about the FP of the skirt, w. free shipping!

    I meant really, what's an aficionada to do? Besides hope to rec'v lots & lots of gift cards in her stocking :}

  74. I posted this on the weekly exchange, so I apologize that this is OT:

I have the Isabella pumpkin/teal heels in a 8.5. I love them, but they're just not for me. I'd part with them for $85 shipped. I'm not putting them on Ebay, but you can see my seller ID to know that I am an honest seller: redhed76. I would take a money order or paypal. If interested, email me at redhed_01 at hotmail.com

  75. Hi again,

GRRRRR! Jcrew, why do you do this to us? I sooo wanted to give a few of the stone bead necklaces & now I just won't. I like my friends to much to pass along cursed items.

I had ordered a few of the necklaces over the red phone on Sunday. They weren't in the store; but I got to use my red card & they sent them free ship. I thought that was great & crossed a few folks off my list. Then, the trouble started.

First they bill the wrong method of payment & send it to the wrong address. I notice this when I rec'v my email confirmation. I call up & they say "I apologise for the trouble etc. " & promise to fix. Then I get the shipping confirmation, still the wrong billing info. I call again, "I apologise..." etc.etc. & they promise to fix it. Today the shipment arrived -- Only one necklace! Oh & one of those "bonus slap in the face" cards from Mickey about how glad they are that I continue to be loyal - eeep!

I call up & the nice CS says that they can "Probably" get the other necklaces to me in time for x-mas. I'm sure that she's trying her best, but I'm just done with this whole experience. Thanks all the same, but I don't want to get my friends to catch "JCREW-itis".

Anywho, I hope things are going better for y'all. Hopefully everything you order will arrive & be the perfect gift!

    Good luck everyone,

    Heather:D

  76. I also have a cashmere peplum jacket that I tried to cancel off an order, but they couldn't get it cancelled... I'm planning to return it, but since they're sold out, I wanted to offer it up here first. It's size medium, black - I bought it at $159.99, so I'd be looking for $170, shipped!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Heather D,

So, now, JCrew CS reps lie as well? I have found them to say they will do something and then not do it...like send an email about an order when I directly ask them too and they say, "Yes, I will be sure to do that for you." and never do. Also, had them lie about other things to and/or attempt to cover up mistakes.

I really do hope you get your gifts. I did not buy a single gift from JCrew b/c I was afraid of what is happening to you happening to me. And, I couldn't go out in the ice storm we just had last night to do more shopping.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh, if you're interested in the black cashmere peplum, my email is christinadeal [at] gmail [com]. Sorry about that!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Hi again,

Ummm I'm not sure if anyone lied. More likely than not - it was just a matter of more than one attempt to get it fixed correctly because the system failed.

That said, I once spend a harrowing few weeks with a "We will find it for you" Over a dozen CS reps, 15+ emails & at least 8 phone calls later - still no skirt.

Personally, I think that their support & inventory systems need help. My recent exp just encourages me to be v. careful w. my purchases. Until then, I'm keeping a watchful eye on my statements.

Sorry about the lousy Anon 4:41. Hope you can find some lovely things for your family!

    Cheers,

    Heather:D

  82. anon @3:15,
it fit tts. but just be cautious if you have thicker arms because the sleeves may be a bit snug for you. i had the dream turtleneck under it and the jacket could still clasp shut and i could move my arms around. in regards to my figure.. im not an hourglass shape. i don't have much distinction in the waist area but i feel like the ecole (when closed shut) gives the illusion of me having a waist.

anon @3:30 im pretty normal in shape. i wear a size small in tees so that the shirts don't "hug" my body. and so i usually order a 4 petite with the coats/blazers. (if I a get a 4 reg the arm lengths are a bit long.) the 4p fits like a glove.

    and anon @3:34,
yes, this time i surprisingly only ordered 3 items. but i am welllll over my spending budget.

and ps: if any of you live in snowy areas, the bromley boots are super cute, they keep your feet warm and since they're lined with sherpa inside they are incredibly comfy! (pair them with some skinny jeans and you're good to go!)

    ReplyDelete
  83. ITA on the bromley boots -- I've been hiking dense woods and wading partially frozen streams all week looking for a lost dog, and my feet have been toasty warm. Highly recommend.

I'm thinking of getting the Red as well as the Spearmint. I'm just kicking myself for not buying the Candy Tee in Light Blade. It's a perfect combination. Stoopid! Stoopid! Stoopid!

  87. Hi again again,

  88. I really appreciate their free shipping codes but why the minimum required?

Sometimes I just want to order a sweater...I really don't like to be pushed to shop more than I want-I love one items and kind of like 2, do I have to order those two to get free shipping? I know I can return them but it's an unnecessary hustle :(

    ReplyDelete
  89. Is there anyone who knows someone at JCrew who would be very knowledgeable about their products?!?

I want the hand painted Jack Purcell shoes...I saw a picture of them online one day, but you couldn't order them. The next day the picture was gone. I asked my PS and she just said that they were sold out. (I check the site daily)

Other products that they have said this about have obviously come back. But anyone I ask about these shoes, they don't even know what I'm talking about.?! No one has ever heard of these shoes.

The collection store had the cascading flower jacket weeks before everyone else and they sold out of them quickly before online even got their shipment.

Also, the collection store had lots of the flower pins when they had supposedly been sold out everywhere for weeks.

Also, there was a cashmere scarf I wanted and ordered and then got a call that the item was sold out... and then when I called back to do a find it for me, they couldn't find any record of the scarf ever existing! Well a couple weeks later, I went to the collection store and they had six!

So all I'm saying is that I think a lot of us aficionada's know more about their products then most of the CSR's...

I did call the collection store to see if they had, have or will get the shoes and all I got was the "we have a limited quantity of items, we are a small store, and don't get many things..." Well I would think that a 200 dollar pair of sneakers would be one item they did get! They're not going to be sold anywhere else! And the annoying thing is that the picture online said they were sold in select stores.

So if anyone knows anyone at J.Crew that can track down things, or actually KNOWS about their products, I would greatly appreciate help!

And J.Crew if you're listening, this is so frustrating to have to go through to track an item down... And I am trying to track it down, because as previously stated, you've told me many times things were not available and then I could find it!

On another note related: I wonder why we will find it does not include the Collection store? The scarf I mentioned I did a we will find it and they sent me an email in an hour saying it wasn't found. And then I obviously found it a couple days later at the Collection store. I've asked before if the store is included in the search and they told me no... I wonder why?

If anyone else has any help, it all is much appreciated! Sorry for the long post!

  95. Despite issues with botched christmas orders over the last month (no gift box, late shipments, missing items -- NIGHTMARE), I caved and took advantage of an earlier credit from returning the shimmy dress and got some great deals today:
    Super 120s trouser with 20% off $75
Super 120s blair dress with 20% off $150
    Bria cami in champagne
    Lea merino cardi in snow
    Black skinny leather belt
Though I've been frustrated, I'm willing to look the other way on this one. I saved TONS and no shipping.

Has anyone else been experiencing "issues" with their christmas orders?

  102. Jessica,
I'm not sure, they say no about 50% of the time. I usually point out that they let me use it before (since they can easily check my records and see that they have), or just say that I wouldn't have placed the order if i had known that (which is also true). I know its a little pushy, but I figure its true to the spirit if not the letter of the discount!

  105. Hi everyone,

For those of you who ordered any of the lovely Super 120s suit pieces...just thought I'd give you a heads-up (I think someone, some time ago, mentioned this on this blog but I thought it wouldn't hurt to reiterate):

I ordered the 2-button blazer, city-fit pants and high pencil skirt in Espresso. They all arrived in the correct size BUT the fabric of the 2-button blazer is a noticeably different shade of brown than the pants & skirt. Also, the inside of the left blazer lapel is labeled with the old "Super 120s" cursive tag. Presumably, the blazer is from an older batch of Super 120s! I'm going to hopefully be able to get a reasonable CSR help me out with this.

Re the Velvet Ecole (also applies to the Tweed Ecole): I, too, ordered the petite version and did not notice any of the gaping/extra fabric issues that were mentioned on this blog. I'm not very well endowed up top (34A) but I do have broad shoulders; I normally take a J Crew P0. Hope that helps!

    Happy Holidays, everyone!

  106. Thanks Alexis,

I must admit, I really appreciate your blog. It's a comfort to know that there are other JCREW fans.

    Like many folks, I value your info & observations. Also, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has been subjected to a bit of a retail roller coaster of late. I can only imagine how con fusing jcrew could be without fellow aficionada's to help :}

Thanks again everyone. Happy holiday shopping!

Can you suggest some colors to wear with my red double serge pencil skirt? I ordered the harlow blouse in guava and I could pair black with it of course but I'm looking for some other ideas...Kind of wishing I had ordered the bronzed ochre now bc I think it would have been a bit more versatile.

    ReplyDelete
  108. audball:

I didn't think the pink color was as cute as J.Crew... but I made a super cute light blue pair that I think will look good with the distressed vintage slim jean (and for only 65! and monogrammed!). Thank you SO much for pointing me to this website I would have never thought they had a design your own! I really appreciate the help!

I still did a find it for me for the JCrew ones, but at least my husband has something to get me for an upcoming birthday/valentines/whatever.
I have always loved the white broken in purcells that jcrew has but they get dirty so easily and washing them brings out the glue around the rubber... i have bought two white pair and won't buy another all white pair again. but I think a pair of purcell's looks really cute with a little rolled up jean leg!

sorry for the long post again, but I wanted to say THANK YOU so much!

(but if anyone ever sees the pink hand painted ones at jcrew and posts here, I'm still going to go looking! and be so grateful! ha!)

Alexis, thanks for the tip- I will certainly call and see if they have them!
Is that the J.Crew that does the mock set ups? (I know there is a J.Crew near the city (or maybe it's new jersey?) that does all the photos for the stores and therefore gets all the merchandise before everyone else...)

In fact if that isn't the store does anyone know what store that is?

    THANKS ALL!

  112. Anonymous at 8:27 pm, in the past the J.Crew website would not let me make a purchase with a gift card AND apply a promo code. I don't know if that's why your order is not being accepted. Try callin CS as another person mentioned and maybe they can help.

  113. For those of you with the Bromley boots - I'm not sure what size to get. I know size 6 is for 6-7, and 8 is for 8-9. I wear a 7 1/2 normally. Would the 6 be too small? I hate boots that are too big - I size way down in uggs.

  114. Just wanted to let people know that an order I placed with JINGLE is being shipped without a tracking number. (It will say N/A under tracking for those who wanted to know) I placed an order on Mon and fortunately, that one came with a tracking # but the one I placed on Tues doesn't. I've contacted them about this and they told me that they don't have a tracking number for that particular order due to an item on that order being canceled. Really? You somehow don't have a tracking # because you happened to cancel an item? I wish they'd stop with all these excuses and just admit they've screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I've heard of this issue before with J. Crew (regarding one item getting canceled, so the entire order being charged on the CC and not the gift card) so it's definitely their standard practice to do this. Very frustrating! Worse yet, I used to throw my gift cards out when I used them up on an online order... not anymore ... at least until that order is on my doorstep!

  117. Anon -- I have the Bromley boots in a size 8 and a size 10. I normally wear a size 9, and I can wear the size 8 boots with at least 2 pairs of socks, or just 1 pair -- excellent for just going to work or when you're not worried about super cold temperatures. I wear the size 10 boots with 3 or 4 pairs of socks when I'm going to be outside for hours and hours on end in the snow.

  118. Hi guys, UPS delivered my Aldridge man's suit last night at 8:30PM :O Here's my review! Looking for a decent interview suit at a reasonable price - couldn't find anything suitable in retail stores, so gave up and used the HOHOHO promo to order the Aldridge in navy. It's a gamble to order a suit without being able to try it on but I was fed up so went for it :S

The stitching and fabric quality is decent, a soft and lightweight wool. The 2-button jacket has a tailored look with a fitted drape that looks smart but still understated. It's not as fashion-forward as Zara, but it's much more youthful looking than Banana Republic. There's minimal padding on the shoulders so they avoid looking boxy. I have a wide upper back and shoulders, and the jacket fits comfortably and looks flattering. There's some padding on the chest area to enforce the nice silhouette, but this means the lower armholes don't have completely free range of movement. This isn't a dealbreaker for me, but people wanting to do semaphore may want to chew on this. The trousers are fine, and match the chino waist sizes pretty well. I took the Ludlow slim leg pant and they are indeed narrower than traditional suit pants. Unless you have really stick thin legs, I think either the regular or slim fits will be fine. The belt loops are not the widest, so buyers would want to use a narrow-medium belt. Overall, I'm happy with the suit and think it offers fair value (at the discount price). It's not the best suit in the world, but it offers one of the smartest OTR/RTW deals available for slimmer/younger guys for under $500. HTH someone!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Ashley at 3:06 - I couldn't agree with you more about the Velvet Ecoles. I am petite as well and I bought 3 of the jackets because they are close fitting on me and wear much like they do on the models in the catalogue. The simple lines (no buttons and nipped waist with darting) give it both a classy yet sexy look (the latter, because of the body-hugging fit).

    ReplyDelete
  120. Anon @ 10:38,
Yay for you! And I agree, it does look quite sexy. It's amazing how great clothes make you feel when they fit you right!

    JaneEsq,
I too am snowed-in in MA. Thank goodness not in the areas without power! :/
That double serge pencil skirt is very cute! as for suggestions, im glad you already got the harlow in that picture, it'll look very nice. Youre right that black will look great, but im thinking that since all of jcrew's colors are so vibrant that any color from off-white (snow) to pastels, to even bold yellows will look good. that deep persimmon color is so versatile that no matter what color you choose, your outfit will really pop. totally make sure u pair that skinny belt with it, in gold, silver or whatever color to really pull it all together! HTH!

  121. This is off topic but... I have a grosgrain bow city tee in dark cloud, size small, that my mom bought me a few weeks ago. I just tried it on now, and the sleeves are too short for my long arms. Before I return I thought I'd offer it up here! It is different from the lighter ivory color, in that instead of having the two pockets at the front, it has a small grograin bow at the left collar instead, and really pretty buttons down the front.

  128. I wanted to resist the urge to complain because i love JCrew but I had a couple of orders screwed up too. First I received some shoes i did not order (the Alessia heels in gray) instead of a skirt but the packing slip listed the skirt. Luckily it was a smooth fix and they refunded the money for the skirt right away and i actually paid less for it when they reordered it. The second time i ordered the Juliet heels and got the Alessias in gray again! What's up with that! I probably would've kept them had they been my size but both times the size was too big. The second time was a bit of a hassle trying to fix this up because i was refunded the wrong amount and had to call them again but all in all they were very nice and so was I.
I'm expecting a package now so hopefully they get it right this time.

  135. Has J. Crew been making little upgrades to the website? The promotion code now capitalizes itself as you type it in...not that this matters.

On the downside, the website is now calling me 19Emily instead of Emily..."Welcome, 19Emily."

If you're talking about the Herringbone Fiona, I have that blazer in bright rhubarb and of course I love it. (As i do many of my purchases..) But of all the times I've worn it, i just paired it with jeans and some flats. Also, I prefer to wear it buttoned because if you wear it unbuttoned the front of the blazer just hangs, and to me it looks a bit weird like that.

this is how i usually wear it

Sorry to hear you're snowed in!! I'm in CA but I keep hearing about you East Coasters on the news. Stay warm!

As for the persimmon dbl serge, I also wear mine with the guava harlow you have coming and with black. Boring, I know. I think cloud would look great with it, as would heather gray as someone else suggested. I got some great gray pumps from nine west that are just like JC's cloud...would be so cute with the persimmon!

As for the Fiona, I have sweet potato and gray. I, too, wear them buttoned to look a little less boxy. Alexis suggested belted...could help give some definition and cheaper than tailoring!

  150. I rec'd the
    Watercolor Crawford cami item 10022
this week. The picture of it in the Holiday catalog (with red cover) is closer to irl than web pic. On my monitor the shirt appears to glow. Not so in person. I took a few different bright rhubarb tops & cerise tops & layed the crawford on top of the various colors. The pinkish color in the cami seems to be the same as the bright rhubarb colored tops.

I purchased this top in a size 4 but wonder if I should've went to a size 2. My only concern with a size 2 would be the arm holes would be right up in my arm pit, which I don't like. The pic of the model on pg. 19 of the catalog looks like it is up in her arm pit. In a size 4 It covers bra straps - no peekaboo under the arm hole or shoulders.

The top is 25" long from shoulder seem to bottom of top - it's definitely not cropped. It is not fitted in the waist area but it is not huge either. I would wear it tucked in to pants/skirts.

I really liked this top until my husband walked by & said it looks like an old lady top. :(

Does anyone else have any opinions of this top? Did anyone purchase it and size down?
