"Thanks!" to many of you, including Anon at 12:24 AM, Naomi, Jeff, & Mirna (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew is offering an additional 20% off final sale with promo code EXTRA20. {yey!} This offer expires 12/28/08.
Incidentally, I noticed early this week that several stores had lots of clothes ready to be shipped back to the main warehouse. I am thinking that in the next few days (or in the next week), the sale section will be {very much} replenished. :)
Are you planning to take advantage of this offer, or wait a bit longer (for better deals), or shop at their stores? If you are planning to stop by one of the stores today, please let us know if there are any great deals and/or promotions going on. :)
It's basically the same sale they had pre-Christmas, isn't it? Not very enticing, anyways. I'll be shopping at places like NM, Nordstrom's, BR & others who get the concent of post-Christmas sales.
ReplyDeleteI agree, same discount as before + same inventory as before + final sale = not interested. If they show me some price reductions or new inventory, maybe I'll bite.
ReplyDeleteBtw, anon@8:24, are you aware of any coupon codes for BR you might be willing to share? I've been watching a blazer but hoped to wait for 20-30% off.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll purchase anything with the 20% off. I'm headed to my local B&M in a little while to see if they have any higher discount, not to mention hitting the other stores at the mall that are having better after-Christmas sales.
ReplyDeleteThe code for BR is EXTRA20 for 20% off of sale items, and can be used in-store with the printed out email, as well. :) Btw...the sale at BR is NOT Final. GAP code is SALE for extra 25% off sale items.
Thanks, FFM! Happy shopping! :)
ReplyDeleteagree w anon 8:24, gonna hit Banana, Macy's others, who do NOT have this stupidity of final sale ~ in retail there should never be such a thing. I have some returns to do, but gonna wait until midweek, too crazy today. Maybe JC will get some returns & they'll be some good stuff at the BM?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to the B&M today to return a lot of items ordered online that either don't work, or were bought to go with something that canceled. I hope there are good sales in the stores. If anyone goes to their store and sees the hammered silk tank in size 0 in peacock, let me know! It's sold out online.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, with regard to final sale, I checked the Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft websites this weekend and both of their sale sections are final sale as well, so it's not just J. Crew.
On the upside, the restocked website had 3 of the 4 items that previously canceled on me so I reordered. Cross your fingers!!
I'm so amazed at how well the PR firms were able to work the system to convince us there would be "massive" sales after Christmas. I spent 30 minutes perusing all the sales online when I got up this morning, and I think I got the gist. 20% at J.Crew, 20% at Banana Republic, 25% at GAP, same prices before Christmas at Restoration Hardware and a small percentage off at Crate & Barrel. It's so dismal I'm not even going to bother going to the mall today. Pitiful.
ReplyDeleteI really want either a black cashmere turtleneck in small or a cashmere jackie cardigan in snow or a grey color also small. If anyone sees these and can put them on hold that would be fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteOT: I love the leather peep lulu heels but the 11s are too big, while the 10s are snug. Are there inserts one can buy to keep the shoe from slipping off? Those who are alewasycwearimg their lulu heels: do they stretch? Not sure what to do? This year J crew's shoe sizes have been off: size up, size down, stretching too much or not a cm.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a puffer long jacket that I had previously bought (or so I thought) during the TURKEY promo "mess" (I ended up getting a short white puffer jacket). Hopefully JCrew will send me the right item this time. I was going to buy a cashmere sweater, but Ralph Lauren has a 30% off free shipping sale on a lot of beautiful cable cashmere sweaters, so I will be shopping RL. Sorry, JCrew, I thought you might have gotten the hint for a %+ Free Shipping sale from us bloggers by now, but I guess you need some more missed sales to get it...
ReplyDeleteI just go the Dream Soho dress in Navy. I tried ton buy this dress when it first came out, but it sold out so quickly. Now I've gotten it for $58 less with the promo code! And in a beautiful navy instead of the basic black I was initially going to purchase. Even if there are no returns, there's no chance I'd want to anyway!
ReplyDeleteLove the 20% off. I just bought another sherpa hoodie for my daughter- the kids version is a lot more fluffier and of really good quality (I bought the boy's version for my daughter) I also bought the lightweight stretch trouser jean (this will be my 2nd pair) for $39 with the discount. Great price. I thought about buying some more cashmere sweaters but I'm trying to keep my costs down. I'm avoiding the malls today but will probably go hit the malls next week to do some returns.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to stop by the J. Crew at Short hills today. Will report back on any great finds. Just wondering if anyone placed an order on Wednesday the 24th? I did it first thing in the morning before heading out for the holiday, and the status is still open. I am wondering what to do if I run into those rare items at my B&M, considering my order might show up as cancelled, I might just purchase them in store (but darn final sale!). Anyone else come across this problem? What do you usually do?
ReplyDeleteI placed an order yesterday and found 20% off code today... Did anyone successfully get price adjustment in the case like this?
ReplyDeleteWell, it seems as though the site is down again...so I guess I'll wait...
ReplyDeletemy jcrew in NC had markdowns extra 30% off. Too bad that there wasn't much there.
ReplyDeleteI spent a ton during the Turkey, HoHoHo and 25% off red card sales, so I won't be taking advantage of the extra 20% off FS. I did, however, purchase some things online at BR & Gap, got some really great deals! Also, Gap said 25% off was for sale items, but I purchased a few full priced spring dresses for my niece, and they applied the 25% off on thise, too! Sweet! :-)
ReplyDeleteMichigan Avenue Store...what's in the sale section? How large is it?
ReplyDeleteTIA
Some other stores may have final sale (though never Nordstrom's, and I've never seen it either at Talbots or BR), but that's commonly after several markdowns - not like J.Crew, where an item goes directly from regular price to final sale. They're telling me they don't have faith in their product by putting it on final sale right away, which is why I don't shop from it.
ReplyDeletehaha, plus, of course, sites like
ReplyDeleteNordstrom, Neiman's, Lord & Taylor, BR .... all work, whereas with j.crew's site keeps malfunctioning.
Agghhh...the 24th I ordered a pair of boots I found on my size worrying they might not be there later...and now I'm regreting not waiting...has anybody had any luck asking for price adjustments?
ReplyDeleteEveryone is hurting from this holiday retail season, from gap to j.crew to high-end stores.
ReplyDeleteFrom Reuters article today:
"Luxury sales, which include sales at high-end department stores, leather goods boutiques, pricier jewelry stores and restaurants, fell 34.5 percent."
I think NOW I am done with J. Crew. I ordered 17 items, paid for them, and then immediately get an email that my entire order was CANCELLED.
ReplyDeletePlus, I ordered a gift card on Dec.18 and had overnight delivery. It never came. According to Fedex, they never requested to have the package piced up. Called Crew and they blamed the entire thing on Fedex. Sure......
Boo Hoo, you had an entire order of 17 items canceled? Oh my gosh! That's insane. Did you call them? Did they have any explanation?
ReplyDeleteGap's site hanging too when attempting to checkout. This happened last time they had a sale. It's not only JCrew's site.
ReplyDeletej.crew's site has been more or less useless since summer...i'm sure a lot of sites are getting extra workload today.
ReplyDelete17 items all cancelled? That sounds odd. You'd think at least a handful would have made it. Just more bad inventory snafus by j.crew.
I hate that it takes so long for j.crew to get to orders, based on checking them in order history. I placed an order wednesday they were supposed to overnight because it had been left out of an earlier order. I was told it would arrive today, but it still shows "open" on my order history.
ReplyDeleteYes, I called them. They said that due to very high internet volume, they could not guarantee that items I purchased would be available. She said that when you "purchase" online, it is more like a "request" to J. Crew, and it becomes a "purchase" once the can fill the order. This is the only "store" that requires you to give your credit card for a "request".
ReplyDeletePlus, I printed out the cancellation email, and ran right over to the BM store closet to me. They actually had one of the items that was cancelled, but it was more than twice the price. They REFUSED to honor the online price, saying that the website and the store don't follow the same pricing guidelines. That was a wasted trip and wasted gas.
wow, boo hoo, that stinks. I can't believe the store, given how desperate j.crew is to make sales, didn't honor the price.
ReplyDeleteI actually placed 2 orders wednesday, both over the phone, including the 1-day ship one.
Neither shows any movement in my order history.
that 'request' bit sounds like nonsense. I mean, in a sense, all on-line orders are like that until the company fulfills them. I think other companies just have a better handle on inventory.
I am very disenchanted with final sale. I will only buy something on final sale if it is a) super cheap, or b) a double of something I already own and therefore know that it fits. Otherwise, final sale is useless to me.
ReplyDeleteI certainly won't be buying anything - I am irritated with the fact that the inventory has not changed...they have items up on their website with the annoying message "sorry this item has been so popular it sold out" blah blah...so take it off the site!
ReplyDeleteThe Final Sales Plus [something more] work for me, with delight, when I am not shopping--when I want something specific, and when I need it in my size, my color. B&M stores are the first to run out, and I'm not remotely tempted to buy the right size/wrong color, right color/wrong style with this economy. As a matter of fact, I'm now 85% all J.Crew! It works for teaching college students and lecturing adults--the new quality and "collection" jackets are incredible. *** BTW, the cashmere flats are amazing, comfortable, stylish and fun.
ReplyDeleteMy goal is not to buy anything else until I hit-up the JC sample sale in NY in January!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know how that goes ;) LOL
Hmmm... 20% is nice but not that great really. Final sale is the killer here.
ReplyDeleteJ.Crew 20% off is just *inventory* clearance. Not so much items to buy. I expected better selection or deep discount after X'mas.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to sell a short sleaved argyle cashmere t-shirt in citron and heather gray, size small. I bought it final sale and it is too big. Email me sarajoy921@gmail.com if interested.
ReplyDelete20% off is very palty post-Christmas, and then to make it final sale ... no thanks, j.crew.
ReplyDeleteSome of the items do seem to be replenished though - I was able to order the Stephanie Dream Cardigan in Light Spearmint, which was canceled when I ordered pre-holiday. We'll see if it comes this time.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind getting jewelry final sale, since fit is less of an issue. I picked up a couple of cute things at 20% off. I'm a bit skeptical that they'll actually come though. Seems like if you're able to complete checkout, the items ought to be guaranteed.
I'm not even tempted since it's final sale.
ReplyDeleteThe B&Ms in NYC are having an extra 30% off sale, back to FS. I called in my order from the red phone and they matched the 30% off instead of the online 20% off. I ordered a coat in 2 sizes and some shoes, and my online PS is marking the order for me to be able to return if the sizing does not work out since my sizes are not available to try on in the store.
ReplyDeleteAlso, exciting news for those who love the Victoria cami--there will be new colors for spring! In the store I saw a peach color and a silver/gray. Hopefully there will be additional new colors as well.
I saw the new Jan. catalog at my local store! It didn't have much new at all in it unfortunately. I was in a big rush and the store was nuts when I was in, so maybe I missed something but couldn't be much.
ReplyDelete20% off is not enough for me to risk final sale. I went to Saks this afternoon, they are having add'l 60% off and of course it is NOT final sale!! So that is where I did my shopping today. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with others: I like being tempted by JCrew but this offer isn't that tempting at all-same inventory and 20% off basically covers tax+ shipping (wonder if it covers their high shipping prices?)
ReplyDeleteI just got a JCrew gift card for X-mas and I wish it was something else instead because there is nothing I'd really like to have right now :(
Maybe I should just wait for their Spring collection?
:(
wasnt going to order anything but I wanted another sweater in spearmint, and I couldnt pass up 29.99 for the dream turtleneck, esp as I have an idea of how it fits. The deciding factor was that the inventory had dropped by half (to 24) overnight. Also, I had a giftcard. with shipping and extra 20, the price was about 30. decent deal. will only buy more if prices drop significantly--have my eye on a couple other sweaters
ReplyDeleteJust got back from my B&M...they are having 30% off sale items which is now Final Sale, as well. I was allowed to combine educator with the extra 30%...YAY!!! The sale section didn't have too much left...a lot of matchstick cords, scarves, tissue turtlenecks, high heel flare jeans, a pair of Almond Juliets in Size 8, and the Dusty Rose Spectators in 9.5.
ReplyDeleteOT: Can anyone comment as to how close in color the Bright Berry Boucle' Astrid is to the Bright Fuchsia Victoria Cami? TIA!
FFM:
ReplyDeleteWhat did you buy then that warranted Yeah! if there wasn't much left? Just wondered b/c nothing too great sounding....
Hi Anon @4:26! My YAY purchase was the Donegal Tweed Blazer, and I got it for $40 with the discounts. It was the only one in the store...must have been an online return, and it was my size. :) I have been eyeing it for awhile, and it was really great to finally get it for such a great deal. :)
ReplyDeleteI hit my B&M to do all the returns I had. They had 30% and said it was final sale, but my receipt doesn't say final sale. I got the navy Vita cami, which I tried on and loved, the Melanie cardigan in black, and the Quinn cami in a orangey coral color (not sure the color name), all for $80.
ReplyDeleteThere were some spring items out, some of which looked interesting but it was too cold and rainy to even focus on them! I'm looking forward to seeing something different.
that's an awesome find, ffm.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I know it isn't an overly *thrilling* purchase, but it was a personal good find for me...the fit is flattering, and I love the color, too. :)
ReplyDeleteFFM, do you ever go to the outlet in St. Augustine? I am down here on vaca and going this week. Have you been lately/can report on any good findings?
ReplyDeleteTIA!
Gosh, I have bought so many things through all the promos over the past month and a half, it really is enough. There is nothing more I need or want and it's a great feeling to just be content for a change. JCrew has an incredible ability to leave people wanting more, as this blog clearly demonstrates.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of complaining about JCrew product and shipping prices on this blog as well. (Not a condemnation, just an observation.) I've also read an incredible number of blog entries where people account of their latest great deal or fabulous purchase. Seems to me that JCrew is probably working their marketing quite well, IT glitches not withstanding, of course. :P
Anyway, I am shopped out for now. Hopefully everyone here and JCrew too has a wonderful 2009.
M.
FabulousFloridaMommy;
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! The Donegal Tweed is an ecsquisite jacket. What color did you get?
How does the merino rose tank fit? I think I remember someone saying it ran really big? TIA!
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous at 9:55 AM - Regarding the leather LULU peep toe heels...I am just like you! The 9 1/2's too snug, the 10's too big. I got the 10's in put in those pads under the toe/upper foot part for "anti slip" and also pads around the back heel area of the shoes (I put in two in each shoe.) They stayed on great for me and were very comfortable. Nordstrom has an entire rack of shoe inserts in the hose/socks section. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Allison! I have never actually been to a J.Crew Factory store, even though 2 of them have opened here in Orlando this past year...sorry I don't have any news to report for you. However, I can tell you that the weather is forecasted to be really nice for your visit, and I really hope you have a fantastic time! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you FFM! Yes, the weather has been great. My parents have a place near Palm Coast so I try to come down here as much as I can! Think I may try to go Monday to the factory store...
ReplyDeleteHi Slastena! I purchased the Heather Graphite in the Donegal Blazer...it looked really great with the Gray Plaid GAP Trousers I had on today, but my main intent is to wear it in a more casual way with a black T-neck, Matchstick Jeans, and Black Knee boots. :) I also purchased the Matchstick Cords in Chocolate for $16. :)
ReplyDeleteAllison: Be sure to report back on what you find...I plan to visit one of the Factory stores in the next month or so to see what they have, but don't want to go during the Holidays because parking is just horrible at the outlets.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if BR has a free ship code in addition to the Extra20?
ReplyDeleteThere is something on sale I really want to purchase that I'm afraid might sell out by the time I get to it, but I think I'm going to risk it until there's at least a free-shipping offer on top of the 20% off, and/or a higher discount. 20% off a final sale just isn't enough when you're down to very limited inventory (limited sizes, even more limited color options).
ReplyDeleteI'm just worn out with the same inventory and no further reductions. I will just wait till some of the crewcuts items get further reduced. Till then...no shopping for me.
ReplyDeleteOT: For anyone interested in shopping at GAP with the current promotion...when I was in the local GAP store today, they had 25% off the entire store (same as online), but were also giving 15% extra off your purchase if you used your GAP card.
ReplyDeleteFFM, I would say the boucle astrid and the fuschia victoria are very similar in color, with the astrid being a slightly deeper fuschia (due to the fabric?) if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteFurther to FFM's info about Gap, BR is offering an extra 10% off for BR cardmembers. So you get 20% off with code extra20, then another 10% off with code plusten. They also have free shipping codes but you need to have a BR/Gap/ON card. You can stack all three codes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cass! I have been contemplating purchasing the Astrid to wear over the Victoria...do you think the colors would work together IRL?
ReplyDeleteI had initially purchased the Melanie in Bright Fuchsia to pair with the Victoria, but it ended up with a snag in the arm straight out of the plastic, and now they are sold out in my size. I tried on the Boucle' Astrid in Charcoal in my store today and loved it, but it was a tad too big, so I would need to size down. Anyways, the Charcoal isn't available in my size online, but the Berry is, so I was considering it as a Melanie replacement for the Victoria, if the colors would work together IRL.
ReplyDeleteYes I think the pink colors would work together...they look like they come from the same pink family, though I am making this comment from seeing the items in the store; I don't own them. Any owners of the astrid/victoria in berry/pink care to comment?
ReplyDeleteBtw can I put in a request for your next round of polyvore sets...the lulu peeptoes in tulip?
Hi again, I want to buy the merino rose tank to go under my chiffon ruffle cardi (saw this on one of FFM's sets!), I have it in my cart in both S and M, but I don't know what size to buy! Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteHi Steph! Have you tried calling in to CS for measurements on each size? They might be able to help, and then you could also request that you be able to return the tank if it doesn't work out...or you could ask to purchase both sizes and return the one that doesn't fit. What size do you usually wear in J.Crew shirts? I personally size down from my regular size for the tanks, but I don't know from personal experience how this one fits to say 100% for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your help Cass, and I'll work on a set with the Tulip Lulu Peeptoes this weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteRe: merino rose tank - size down. I usually wear a medium in cardigans and (petite but broad shoulders and chest) and wear a small in the merino rose tank. HTH
ReplyDeleteHi girls, I almost always wear a M, but I thought I heard people saying this tank runs large. I think I might call CS and get the measurements, that is a good suggestion! I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this, I will check back, thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteOT again: Any comment/opinions on the Merino Ruffle Neck Cardigan? Is it pretty IRL? Thin or substantial? It's one of my other options for the Melanie replacement, but I've never seen it in person. TIA for any help!!
ReplyDeleteI have my eye on the Tailored wool rosette tank dress - it is a great deal. But, I have never seen it IRL and I was wondering if it is as cute as it looks online.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried it on?
Greetings JCAs! I am visiting San Antonio and I got a chance to check out the J. Crew store at La Cantera shops. They are having 30% off sale, but it is Final Sale. Nonetheless I scooped up two sequin bubble tanks (I'd been looking for them for awhile in my size, my local Dallas store is picked over) for $13 each and I bought the Chiffon Cardigan in red (bright papaya). I don't usually buy short sleeve cardigans but I think it will be a versatile item in Texas since the weather tends to stay mild during the year. I think I will actually layer it over one of my sequin tanks and dark denim jeans!
ReplyDeleteIn regards to jeans, I have recently given up all my J. Crew jeans for Joe's Cigarette Jeans... any other JCAs into Joe's brand?
I swung by the Michigan Ave, Chicago store today to make some (non final sale) returns. The sale section is an additional 30% off (and yes, final sale). There were lots of papaya Quinn camis for $19.99 in all sizes. A billion bright papaya Francie skirts for $19.99 too, but nearly all in size 0. Several black and camel herringbone Astrid jackets, and lots of coats (I noticed the tulips, Madelines, and bright berry boucle tweed scarf coats). Also a few metallic Phoebe jackets and night sky Aubrey jackets. Overall, nothing too exciting, and it looked like they had cleared out a few racks -- there was a lot of room to walk around, and usually there isn't.
ReplyDeleteAttention Everyone:
ReplyDeleteI just got back from my J.Crew in Honolulu and they had more than 30% off going on for all SALE items!! I was so thrilled.
Linda:
ReplyDeleteWhere does the clara chiffon cardigan hit you? Above hips at natural waist? Also, what is your height, are you long torso, short torso or regular?
Thanks alot!
Just got back from mall doing returns...j.crew was *picked* over to the point there was nothing of any interest. The whole store looked sad & empty.
ReplyDeleteI just came back from the Towson, MD store- just picked over, nothing enticing in the least bit. Guess I'll be waiting for a while to use my Christmas gift cards!
ReplyDeleteOT- Does anyone have a Martin and Osa % off code to share? I can't find a current one. Thanks!
I ordered the
ReplyDeleteWool-cashmere Harriet coat item 99222 today in Navy. I forgot about Gigi's review of this coat and am wondering if anyone, 5'7" or taller has the coat. I'm hoping it's not a bathrobe on women with a little more height. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks for your help.
jbird: was the Towson store crowded? Did you notice if they still had matchsticks on the floor?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I came back empty-handed from J.Crew. Everything was picked over and sale racks were pretty bare, which says a lot because I went right when the store opened.
ReplyDeleteWill JCrew restock on items that are sold out on their website? Can I ask for a personal shopper to help find the items I want? Thanks
ReplyDeleteWell think about it...the associates probably bugged out of the stores asap Dec. 24th, & probably did not get store organized cleaned up for early opening this a.m. Maybe next day or two, over the weekend, the stores will look better & have more out. Just a thought...
ReplyDeletehouston store was very crowded..had 30% off of markdowns = final sale.
ReplyDeletei got some jeans for $30 but that's it!
OT - ANYONE see a SIZE 2 super 120s black dress from fall - 3qtr sleeves, buttons down the back? i have this dress & someone i know wants one exactly like it.
thanks!
i'm guessing they're making room for the early spring rollout. ... half my store was pjs, it seemed, which did nothing for me. Seemed a waste of space.
ReplyDeleteI also placed an order yesterday using the ICD-49 code. Of course I was upset with myself when I saw the Extra20% promo today! Crossing my fingers, I decided call CS and see if I could get a refund. I spoke with a rep (Alicia) who agreed to refund part of the difference. Now that I'm trying to put together this post, I'm actually not sure how she calculated it. But in any event, I'm getting almost $10 back. Better than nothing!
ReplyDeleteRe: tailored rosette dress--the consensus here was that it runs 1-2 sizes too large.
ReplyDeleteRe: Harriet, I am 5'9" and the coat was not too long on me but was too bulky in the body and also looked like a bathrobe when I tied it due to too much fabric.
FFM-The merino ruffle necks I have from last spring are pretty thin. About the same, maybe a tiny thicker, than the Lea's
ReplyDeleteLinda_I love Joe's. They are the only jeans that consistently fit me well
I finally pulled the trigger on the spearmint Stephanie with the sale and a gift card. The small kept disappearing so I thought I would jump on it while I had the chance.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Does anyone know what color the cool dusk is close to - i.e. in wool crepe suiting? Is it blue or grey? I have trouble with colors sometimes.
Anon 8:27, they do some restocking. Either they get more of the items, or they get returns of a popular item and they relist them. They used to do their restocks at predictable times, they don't seem to be doing that now. It's hit and miss but if you keep watching the site, you can find something you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteAmeilia, I have a skirt in cool dusk. It's grey, with blue undertones. Very nice color.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if anyone might offer some advice between the Double-cloth Madeline coat and the Wool Taryn peacoat. Has anyone purchased or tried on either of these coats? I'm consistently a J.Crew size 0.
ReplyDeleteYour advice/input is much appreciated. :)
Just got back from my local B&M. The shop offers additional 30% off for the sales section. Nothing was enticing but I bought Mod Herringbone Mini for $20 and metallic belt for $7.
ReplyDeleteMod herringbone mini $29.99 (online $69.99)
Symmery Python Pencil Skirt $69.99
Herringbone University Pants (ivory) $69.99
Metallic foil skinny belt $9.99
Sherpa hoodie $39.99 (grey, chocolate, navy, white)
Double serge skirt $79.99 (red, bronze)
Wide patent leather belt $12.99
I tried Tailored wool rosette tank dress ($29.99). I really wanted to like it but I didn't buy: it wasn’t lined and ran big for me. Bow-necklace cardigan was still $59.99 at B&M (online $29.99).
Naomi, did you happen to notice if they had the double serge skirt in that bronze (ochre) color in size 2? Can you tell me which store so I can call?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to follow up on my posting earlier today. I placed an order on Weds and just got email confirmation that my items (BOTH!) have just shipped. So if anyone else placed an order then, I hope yours have shipped out too!
ReplyDeleteI stopped by J. Crew at Garden State Plaza and like every other store, there was not much left. I was hoping to find some PJs but they had very little left. I'm thinking my most recent purchase online should be my last for this season!
A bit OT but... I bought a Stretch wool Daphne dress item number 11480and I love the first photo where the dress is shown on the model with a belt or sash of some sort. I am looking to wear this dress to my husbands Christmas Party (Jan 11- what a joke) but I want to dress it up a little. Is the sash/belt J Crew's bejeweled feather sash? Anyone have any for sale? J Crew is SOLD OUT. Thanks! I May contact FFM for some ideas.
ReplyDeleteSharkbait, that is the feather sash in the picture. There were lots of them at the Tucson store today. I believe they were $29.99, and 30% off.
ReplyDeleteDesert Flower:
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the double serge skirt in bronze was in size 12 (me too, I wish it was in size 2...). If someone looks for this skirt in size 12, you might want to call to Carmel CA: 831 624 2803. The shop may ask you the shipping cost, but it won't be a bad deal with a 30% additional off promo.
kitchy7, any shoes at the Michigan avenue store?? TIA!!
ReplyDeleteThank you DesertFlower! I got a skirt and pant suit in that color today. I love it!
ReplyDeleteone of the stores in Portland,Oregon has a final sale with extra 30% off.
ReplyDeleteHarriet A Bathrobe?: I just got this coat as well (in the Camel shade). I too purchased it after reading GigiofCa's post and was worried about the fit. In my opinion, the coat needs to be sized down a whole size. I am normally a size 2 in coats, and I went with a size 0. (I size down by accident when I ordered and it worked out great!)
ReplyDeleteI also found that because the coat is a bit shapeless, I need to tie the belt, and scrunch the fabric in the back of the coat. When I do this, the coat is actually quite lovely. So much so that I decided to keep it.
I hope this helps! :)
Farmer Jo:
ReplyDeleteThere is a post with a long string of women commenting on the rosette tank dress. The majority of them (including me) said that the fit was way too big - at least 1-2 sizes (although, because I'm petite, I thought it was more like 2-3 sizes too big).
Also, most women said the fit was overall flattering, even aside from the oversized issue.
FFM:
ReplyDeleteI about to return a Charcoal Astrid boucle (I think this is the one you're referring to) in a 2. Is it your size?
My JCrew store was picked over on Sunday...it's a pretty lousy store, so I'm not expecting much...
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I ordered a silk top, long cardi and a peacoat from BR for $89 shipped. The BR card does have its rewards!
Naomi- Do you remember the price of the bronze serge skirt? I would love to have this and it's my size!
ReplyDeleteJbird- Towson; the store was not at all crowded. There were some matchsticks for sure- I didn't notice the sizes or price (I can't wear them, so I don't give them much thought, sorry!)
HTH!
PS- Still hoping someone has an M&O discount code they'd want to share...
My wonderful (some call "tacky") shorts were supposedly back in stock, so I order two sizes. I'm going to be P.O. if both come back saying out of stock/canceled, since they've already pulled that one on me last time I tried to order them a couple months ago.
ReplyDeleteYes, lot of shoes at the Michigan Ave store. Most of them are out on the shelves in boxes. There are bunches of Alessias and some Juliets, Claudias, and flats. Some boots, too, but I didn't take a very close look at them.
ReplyDeleteSometimes J.Crew drives me nuts! an order they told me they would overnight wed. so I would get it friday, at their expense bec. of their screw-up, is not, in fact, arriving until MOnday. And now I just got an email saying an item from another order is sold out, so the whole order has been cancelled. screw you, j.crew!
ReplyDeletenaomi, what's your store please? thanks.
ReplyDeletejbird: The price of Double serge skirt is $79.99 - 30% off = $55.99. Please ask SAs about the shipping cost(Carmel CA: 831 624 2803). Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis! Unless it's totally unwearable I will keep it. Well I have to keep it since it's FS. I love navy. I have to restrain myself from wearing the color all the time. I will submit a review when I receive it.
ReplyDeleteI have placed two orders today. I purchased a piper tank in ivory, and some other layerable items that were on the low end of the price point. I care about the shipping but the 20% off on some of these lower cost items is a really good deal. It gives me a chance to add some new colors to my JCrew collection!
ReplyDeleteI also took advantage of the Gap promo. Isn't this
Gap-Shawl Cardigan a beautiful color?
50% off in Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteIf I have about a few hours to spare, maybe. JCREW has one of the hardest website to navigate. When I clicked on the women section - 'sort by size' - xs, they showed me random items from men and kids - What???? It's just weird. Even after I was trying to be more patient and browsed page by page, when I clicked on a few of the items, they said "I am sorry, the item you're looking for is so popular that it is out of stock" Why do they show them in the first place??? It's so dissapointing.
ReplyDeleteI shopped at Gap.com today, it's so much easier and more convenient. I used to work as a web developer in a start up company and yes, sometimes my company's website have a glitch, but not for MONTHS, I don't know how could big company like JCREW could survive with a website like that.
Farmer Jo- re: the Rosette Tank Dress. I really wanted to love this dress. I purchased it and brought it home to try on with a few things. There are a few issues with the dress: it is unlined (not great for a wool dress) it runs really big (at least 1 size) I also found it to be big in all the wrong places and it bunched oddly in the back. I had a hard time figuring out what to wear with it- it is fairly low cut, so I needed to find something to wear underneath and nothing looked good?? I tried it with a blazer over it and that looked strange too because the wool is fairly thick and none of the blazers were a similiar fabric. Sadly I returned it. It is a great deal now for $29.99 + 20%, so perhaps you could make it work? But is was a miss for me at any price.
ReplyDeleteTwiga
I often find that if someone is really, really marked down fairly quickly, it's because of a severe flaw. Luckily in the case of the droopy astrid, it's easy to just remove the sad flower.
ReplyDelete^ok, I guess I better get to bed. "Someone" is marked down? Meant someTHING, of course, lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the info all! I decided against the dress. A dress that doesn't fit isn't worth the price.
ReplyDeleteI received my herringbone Ecole in mediterranean blue just before Christmas, I bought it with the JINGLE promo. I was so impressed, the jacket looked great on me and is very well-tailored in a gorgeous color. Hoping for a similar experience I ordered the Astrid boucle today as the inventory is getting low in my size. With the discount it is $55.99 from $228 originally. Even though I pay the shipping it is still a great deal for a quality wool jacket.
ReplyDeletekitchy7 - did you happen to see any cashmere hoodies in the Michigan Avenue store? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteJust came back from J.Crew Tyson's - lots of things on sale - 30% off final sale. University pants, matchsticks (coral, fuschia, chocolate, acorn, camel), metallic flecked skirts (in black), a-line taffeta skirts (in champagne and flamingo), sharkskin skirt (in sliver), tons of sequin placket henleys, tons of bromley boots, some art deco dresses, one isabella paisley halter dress (in size 2, I think), merino lea cardigans, wool kate dresses (in pumpkin, camel and black), leopard print harlow blouses, dream valerie cardigans, merino rose cardigans (mostly in white), tons of cashmere turtlenecks (in all sorts of colors), a variety of coats (sorry, didn't get the chance to see which ones specifically), a lot of smock stitch tissue tanks.
ReplyDeleteI bought a leopard print harlow (love the sturdy silk fabric of this - so different from the Joelle & Quinn items), a metallic flecked skirt in black ('been eying this forever!) and an a-line taffeta skirt in champagne (figured I can substitute this for the gold lame skirt, which I still can't bring myself to cough up the money for ;p).
I also bought accessories online using the 20% discount off the final sale - a meribel scarf, a mohair scarf, a lydia blouse in white, a pair of claire pants in white and a yoga mat (for $8!?!? 'can't beat that!).
Yeah, I'm a sucker.
Oh, I forgot - there were also a few spectator heels in amber (in 8's and 9's), two or three Juliet heels (not so sure whether they were iridescent or patent blanched almond - they were on a lower shelf in a corner), one pair of Juliets in peacock in size 9 I think and one pair of Juliets in Safari (I can't remember the size, sorry!).
ReplyDeleteThere were also two velvet ecoles in rhubarb (sizes 2 and 4, I think), one metallic herringbone clea jacket and a few decade dot jackets.

jbird,
ReplyDeleteYou will get 25% automatically deducted from sales prices on their website. You don't need a code.
HTH!
I didn't notice any cashmere hoodies, but I wasn't looking for them. Also, there was a table with sweaters in the sale section that was just a mess, so I didn't look closely at it. They could have had some in there.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 11:51 - I have 5 of the ecole jackets (3 velvet, 1 herringbone and 1 tweed) and 2 of the Astrid boucles. The ecoles and the Astrids have a different look - and therefore fit - about them. But, I think you will like both nonetheless. The Astrid has a classic Chanel-esque look and fit. The ecoles are tailored as well, but in a different, more fitted, way. (You will notice that the ecoles have heavy darting (at least the velvets ecoles, I can't remember if the herringbone is the same) and the Astrid, I believe, is a straight cut).
ReplyDeleteTo Harriet A Bathrobe?:
ReplyDeleteI received this coat in Navy in Size 2. I am normally a Size 2 and thought a Size 0 might be a better fit if I am only wearing a thin sweater underneath. But since there is no more free shipping, I don't know if I will return it and try to get it in Size 0.
I find that there is too much fabric when I button the jacket and tie the belt as the back scrunches up. However, I find that if I wrap the coat tightly (without buttoning) and tie the belt, it looks pretty good! But I haven't found a way to wear this jacket without tying the belt...
I am still debating whether to keep it or not as I also got the Madeline, but I got the Harriet for $70 with the Hohoho and free shipping...so it is such a great deal! Plus the details in the inside of the jacket is absolutely lovely. The good thing is that I think the dark color help make it not feel like a bathrobe.
The stores are going to look empty for awhile, with the economy and people waiting for deep sales the inventory is not going to be the same as in previous years. Stores are cancelling order shipments now for Spring and Summer.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting the double cloth lady day coat with thinsulate in sea salt for years. This morning on the phone, with the extra 20% off, my 15% student discount, and 20% off for opening up a Jcrew card, I got it for $125 including shipping! The original price was $360(for tall sizes) - I am on cloud nine!!!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone purchased the alpaca stardust cardigan? It looks lovely, but is a pricey gamble due to final sale!
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 1:46 - thanks for your comments on the Ecoles and Astrids. I can see that you are right, the Ecoles are much more fitted and yes, the herringbone has a lot of dart seaming, which is great for me. I like the look of the Astrid too, although it will be more boxy to mimic the Chanel jacket and I may need to have it tailored sightly as I have to order large enough for my bust and often take things in at the waist as a result.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have new options and both are quality pieces from what I've read on this blog, which has been so helpful with my decision as the quality has been inconsistent from JCrew this year. With the 20% discount the Astrid is 1/5 the original price. I plan to take off the flower pin and replace with an antique pin of my grandmothers to start.
I read somewhere that Jenna Lyons, among others, is advising that more tailored, menswear details will be the focus for 2009 and the ruffles and feminine details will start to fade away. I only have two ruffle shirts and one ruffle favorite fit tank so I'll stop now and enjoy the ones I have. I do like the menswear look as I am tall and thin with a large bust and sometimes the ruffles can be a bit too much, people forget I have a face, if you know what I mean. :P I think the return of the pencil skirt in so many high-end fabrics this season was a preview of the menswear look to come. I look forward to some new tailored silhouette.
What do you all think? Ready for more serious clothes?

I saw on one of today's morning shows (GMA, I think) that pleated pants for women will be making a comeback in 2009. More specifically, Kate Hepburn-style pants (high waist, pleats, long & loose). I don't think I'm ready for that look, myself, but we'll see...
ReplyDeleteI don't mind tailored, but I hate pleated pants for men or women. They are not flattering. High-waisted can be pretty uncomfortable too, especially in jeans. :(
ReplyDeleteDesert Flower @ 9:39
ReplyDeleteThank you for your response. I looked these up on J Crew but they are SOLD OUT! I trotted over to ebay where one seller is selling the belts at $75 a piece! They were not even this high at full price with J Crew. What a mark up. No thanks!
I am glad that the ruffles are fading away, but the menswear look is worse. With their declining quality and now the menswear look for 09 J Crew will save me money.
ReplyDeleteHigh waisted pants and long sweaters do not suit everyone you have to have a long lean body shape to carry that look off.
sharkbait,
ReplyDeleteI was at the Kansas City Country Club Plaza J.crew yesterday. They had a lot of the feather sashes there (in the same colors that you want--brown sash w/blue/black feathers). I'm not sure what the price was, but they were in their sale section (so an additional 30% off). Their ph. # is (816) 753-9744. The SAs there are wonderful, so I'm sure they'd ship it to you. I had them ship me something once (I live ~50 minutes away), and it arrived via Fed Ex. Shipping charge will be $7.
to Clara: the chiffon cardigan hits me above my waist. I am 5'9" and long torso so most of J. Crew's regular cardigans and sweaters are short on me! But I like the cropped look because I wear a lot of billowy tops and skinny bottoms. The cropped cardigan helps balance out the silhouette. I think the cardigan would also be cute over a sleeveless dress.
ReplyDeleteI agree with other JCAs that the wool rosette dress had a lot of potential but it is too big on top. I wear a 2-4 in tops and a 4 in dresses and the XS was too loose in the chest area. I think the dress could have worked better if they had stuck to suiting sizes (0,2,4,6,8, etc) and got rid of the smocking.
I ended up ordering a few things from Final Sale that I thought might sell out if I kept waiting for a bigger discount. Was disappointed in the 20% though after being spoiled by the pre Chrstmas discounts with free shipping too. Probably discounts will get bigger after Saturday though! Anyway, the Golden Roses pencil skirt sold out quickly, along with a few other things after I placed my order. Keeping my fingers crossed that I actually get some of the things I've ordered!
ReplyDeleteI placed a FS order yesterday and a number of the items are now gone from the website. I hope I get them, I have been waiting and watching for them to return in my size.
ReplyDeleteI imagine they are processing a lot of returns from online and B&M as they get ready for spring. Perhaps some of our most-wanted items will reappear in the right sizes yet!
Does anyone know, do most of the returned items come back to the warehouse or do they go to the factory stores? I assume the warehouse, but you never know. Hey, maybe they will show up at the NYC sample sale in Jan.
Do you really want a return? The wrong item might be put in the wrong bag, or even the wrong size, there has been posts about J Crew not checking their returns very carefully, and with it being FS the risk is too high.
ReplyDeleteHilda did you make the trip to the Plaza or call them? I wanted to visit the 2 local stores since Oak Park is inside and with snow and ice on the way inside shopping sounds nice !
ReplyDeleteAnon@2:43 - wouldn't I be able to return an item if they shipped the wrong item, color or size? They have always honored FS returns for me when there was any problem with defective items so I assume that if you got something you did not order, you could return it.
ReplyDeleteAnon@3:02: A little embarrassing to admit but I went to both stores yesterday. The Oak Park one was completely wiped out--I even overheard two SAs talking about how empty the store was. The selection at the Plaza tends to be larger and I find the SAs much nicer there.
ReplyDeleteThe Extra 20% promo is good for picking up things that I've missed. I feel lucky to have found things in my size (xs, 0 or 0P) and at fairly decent or even really low prices plus the discount. I was able to get the Silvie dress in grey, cashmere Peyton dress in black and deep poppy, the double-serge pencil skirt in ivory, black, bronzed ochre and deep persimmon (thanks to this blog, otherwise I wouldn't have given this beautiful skirt a second thought), the Watercolor Garden Rosette dress, and the Golden Roses, Duchess-dots and Sketchbook Roses Bell skirts!
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:29, I ordered the Alpaca Stardust Cardigan, not on final sale, and am still debating about returning it. It IS lovely, the sequins are very pretty and fairly subtle. The feel and weight of the alpaca is subtantial, soft and cozy. I am just not sure if the color does anything for me. The sweater is shorter so might not work so well if you are tall.
There is nothing good about FS!
ReplyDeleteA BIG THANKS to Hilda:
ReplyDeleteI may just have to check them out. I am still not 100% sure we are going to the party. That, and I am not sure I can justify spending so much on the dress. I also purchased the feather chiffon dress in black, but that I will be returning due to sizing issues
Recvd Jcrew Madeline coat, TTS except for sleeves.
ReplyDeleteI purchased this coat for $98 after deep discounts; originally $298. I got a size 12R in Heather Majestic Purple. For Ref, I'm about 5'7 and it hits about 2'' above the knee.
The body fits perfect, with a very slimming and elongating effect, but a bit longer than shown on model.
The sleeves seemed excessively long. I've purchased the 12R peacoat last year, and that was not the case. It was a pretty easy fix with the sleeves though, which I did myself.
The color is very saturated, between a purple and blue- Royal Blue. This is a color not easily worn without being fitted. IMO the Madeline/Lady Day can pull off this color but not the Marie. I do like the color, because it really compliments the brown haired, brown eyed.
Hope this helps.
Thanks TifanyRose for the fit on the cardigan Alpaca stardust cardigan...I am 5'8'' with long arms and torso.. sometimes things can look too shrunken on me! as for the color I did have reservations... it is not the best color on me although it looks great on others!
ReplyDeleteThanks also Hilda..I may make a trip to the Plaza if we don't get too much snow..I love that it is next door to Anthropologie...might make a side trip..you know since it is so close and all!!
I agree--LOVE that Anthropologie is next to J.Crew at the Plaza!
ReplyDeleteWow, pleats? I don't think pleated pants look good on anyone. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks to Anon @ 8:39 PM I finally got a good deal on my Lady Day Coat. I was glad to see that a regular Lady Day in Sea salt in P0 reappeared on the webite. After seeing what anon wrote I called in my order instead and got a 15% student discount stacked on top of the 20% discount. They did ask if I wanted to open a J Crew card but only offered me a 10% off on my NEXT purchase instead of the 20% anon got. Too bad. If they had offered me an extra 20% off on THIS purchase I would have bit the bullet and opened a card. So I paid 162 after taxed and shipping ($135 before tax and shippng). I didn't mind too much the final sale for this purchase because I already know how the P0 fits on me.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the others & label this sale lame . . . & 20%? What gives? Boo urns.
ReplyDeletethank you, SW, for your review on the Madeline :) I'm still wondering about the Taryn, but am seriously considering picking up one of each.. if I were offered free shipping, i think that would push me over on the Madeline, at least.
ReplyDeleteIf you thought the 20% was lame there is nothing today just FS. Great way to move your inventory J Crew!
ReplyDeleteOne more note on the fit of the Madeline Coat. I'm 5'7 size 12 on Top, 14 on the bottom. I purchased the Madeline in a size 12, and it fits perfect, even in the shoulders. As mentioned before, I had to adjust the sleeve length, but that is it.
ReplyDeleteHope it helps. Happy Shopping.
