This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent"
posts), where we can share our finds from other
retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew
(like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann
Taylor, and the like.)
If you
have recently encountered items that are similar to
J.Crew, maybe you might be
willing to share that information with us
in this post.
Please feel
free to share your story on almost any topic—
including experiences with certain merchandise pieces,
promotions/ offers, in-store visits,
transactions with store associates, etc.
Anyone aware of or have a Madewell discount they can share?
ReplyDeleteThanks!

JC Penny is now carrying Joe Fresh on their web site and stores. There has been a lot of Joe Fresh love on the blog. Offerings online look cute! Great prices.
ReplyDeleteI ordered two pairs of Joe Fresh pants to be shipped to my local JCP. Will hopefully pick them up next week and report back on what they are like! The prices are great and I do like many of the pieces. Hope it lives up to all of the good things I have heard from Canadian and NYC friends.
DeleteI also ordered some Joe Fresh - the sleeveless lace top in green, the gingham shirt in light pink, and the stripe pocket dress in red. All for less than the cost of one cotton top from JC, and without ugly exposed zippers or other "of the moment" touches.
DeleteOoh, can't wait to hear what you think of the sleeveless lace top in green. I almost got that because the color is so lovely.
DeleteI'n thinking of placing an order. Wondering about sizing. Anyone know how they run ?
DeleteTheir sizing is tts for most things. I have found that their pants, dresses and skirts are all spot on. I only had one experience of a hydrangea printed tee i purchased running quite small. Luckily I live just over the bridge from Canada and so I was able to exchange it easily.
DeleteI am interested to see whether the JC Penney merchandise is the same quality as the Canadian version. I drove to Canada last weekend to pick up some things and noticed that nothing on the JCP website is what they have in stock in stores there. I am wondering whether this is "true" Joe Fresh or just a line they created specifically for JCP stores?
Anyhow, I placed a large order via the JC Penney website last weekend. I ordered the Short Sleeve 100% Silk Shirt, the Slim Fit Sateen Pants in the navy pattern, the Lace Front Dress and the Crochet Dress. I also pre-ordered the Crochet Shorts in navy.
I'm excited to get my order and hoping that the quality is the same as the Joe Fresh stores!
Also, I wanted to add that if you see things you like on the original Joe Fresh website, you can actually call the store and they will ship them to you. I was interested in trying this blouse from the website as a potential alternative to my boring plain cream blouses but this style was not available at my local Joe Fresh store. I called the flagship store in New York and they took my credit card info and shipped it to me. A note of warning: the people there are young and oftentimes less experienced salespeople. I specifically asked them to conduct the transaction while I was on the phone with them. The young man helping me responded with "Oh, good idea. Normally I just write the credit card number down on a scrap of paper and do it later." (Eeeek!) He was more than happy to comply with my request to do it all via phone, entering it directly into the computer rather than writing anything down. Just a thought though for people who don't live near a Joe Fresh store but don't want to be limited to what JCP has on their website!

A lot of J.Crew-like items in my 'You Look Very Familiar...' post including an alternative for the J.Crew Merino Confetti Stripe Sweater and Classic leather ballet flats. You can see the post here.
ReplyDeleteThe similar version (Vince Camuto one) of the Peplum stripe top that you posted is extremely cute in person. My coworker wore it the other day and I thought it was the J.Crew version at first. She got hers at Nordstrom. Great finds, FFM!

Haha, I don't know if anyone can tear their eyes away from the pretty new arrivals at J. Crew, but if you can and you love Boden, I put together a picks post of the current mid-season sale (called the Spring Sale). There is a lot that is between 30 and 50% off, so it might be worth a look around if you tend to buy Boden only at a steep discount.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the summer new arrivals should drop between now and next Wednesday, so if you placed a preview order, they should start coming in soon. :)
I have been steadily buying more and more from Club Monaco over the past 6 months. Their price points are on the higher side but I notice stuff tends to sell out very quickly, even at regular price, and the quality is always very good. They occasionally run additional % off promotions on their sale section, during which I bought this incredibly beautiful silk camisole and tap pant, and a silk blouse in a beautiful shade of nutmeg brown. I posted photos on my blog here.
ReplyDeleteDid a review of some fabulous Brooks Brothers button-down shirts in my last few blog posts here .
ReplyDeleteCan't get over how well they fit and are made! I can't trust J Crew for consistent fit in their button-downs anymore, so it's nice to find something that is working for me! They have a pretty good selection in the sale section on-line right now too--some as low as $40!
I stopped by GAP the other day and loved what I saw. They have a coral and blue butterfly blouse (it is polyester) with kind of a stand/mandarin collar (not sure if I'm describing it right). There was also a blue/white/yellow scarf with butterflies on the ends. The cat print shirts are adorable (100% cotton), the teacup print stuff also cute. I bought a navy dress with kelly green stripes that was almost a replica of J. Crew's Maritime dresses (but the length was good at GAP). The shoes were cute, the pants were cute (fun prints on ankle length jeans). There were great spring colors in the Essential tees. This wasn't my regular mall GAP, so maybe they had more than a regular GAP, and I can't see most of this stuff online, but if you like GAP sometimes, the new spring collection is worth a look (if they get it all in the stores).
ReplyDeleteI think GAP looks great these days, I see a real change recently.
I totally agree, Gap has been getting more of my $$$ lately. Some of the fabric content is still a bit iffy, but the styles are getting better and better.
DeleteI'm still not loving a ton there, but I got the CUTEST pair of camo skinny jeans there. LOVE them!!
DeleteJruby18 - I was looking at those camo pants online. I'll have to try them.
DeleteI saw the camo jeans, they looked so cute!
DeleteTotal long shot, but has anyone tried the Brandi boots from sole society? I think I need the burgundy ones but I have never ordered anything from them before. Not sure about sizing or anything. Any experience with sole society in general that you could share would be great.
ReplyDeleteI've only purchased 1 pair of shoes from them, but they were good quality and the materials were nice. I would definitely purchase from them again. I haven't tried those boots, though!
DeleteI mentioned this briefly in the Reviews thread, but wanted to put it here too. I tried on the Old Navy floral button down shirts that have been mentioned on this blog; the ones similar to the Liberty Print, I believe. Very happy with these at the price point ($17 on sale this past weekend). I’m a 6 in shirts at J.Crew and took a S in these. Best part of all, these did not gap too bad in the chest area, which is what I have an issue with on the Liberty Print shirts.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I picked up the Women's Tab-Sleeve Tee Dress at ON which looks similar to J.Crew’s new Stripe shirttail dress. Just a heads up if you want to buy this online, the colors look a bit off. I bought what is called “red stripe” and it’s not red, but a coralish color with a neon orange stripe. This one and the “blue stripe” were my favorites. So pretty for spring and they had a nice weight..meaning not seeing through.
Finally, another TjMaxx alert. Found a replica of the Heart Throb shirt there this past week. It was the red version…looked, felt very similar just was 100% polyester. Keep an eye out if you still want this shirt like I did.
Reply doesn't work for me -- J.CrewJD, I too have made one purchase from Sole Society (a pair of wedges) and I echo that, for the price, the quality is pretty good. I am a size 8 and ordered an 8, but probably could have gone up a half size. I do think that the wedge I purchased was supposed to be suede, and I have my doubts whether it is actually suede. But it is very comfortable and very well constructed. HTH.
ReplyDeleteThanks phoebe and rcb.shops. I really appreciate your input.
DeleteI have ordered three pairs in the last two days! Yikes. But hell, I can return them (except the boots, but for $50 I am willing to risk it) if they don't work out, which is a miracle in itself when I am used to shopping J.Crew's dreaded final sale.
I got the Opal in the green color. How adorable are those!?
I really, really want the Celine in red, too. But as with most of their shoes, the large sizes are sold out. How annoying.
They also carry some styles at Nordstrom, which is great, since SS charges a restocking fee if you return for other than store credit, while Nordstrom does not.
After searching for years for the perfect jeans, I have finally found them! I recently ordered them from white house black market after a recommendation and I'm in love! They come in regular, tall, and short sizes and I'm 5'3 and the 4 short fits perfect, not too long/short. I purchased a bootcut pair and a skinny, the skinny came in sizes like xs/s/m/ and they feel exactly like leggings. If anyone is still searching for that perfect pair of jeans, I would highly recommend trying WHBM out!

Many of them are already on sale or promo, making them an even better deal with the extra % off, too.
