This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.
If
you have recently experienced a
frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe
you might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Please
feel free to share your story on almost
any topic— including poor experiences with
purchases & orders, promotions/ offers,
in-store visits, transactions with store
associates, etc.
Not really a vent about anything but just a complaint that I keep missing the early morning sale updates...and today looked like it was a good one!!! One day i will catch the matchsticks in my size in the sale section.
ReplyDeleteNot specific to JCrew but -- Anyone old enough to remember "Color Me Beautiful" in the eighties knows their season. I am an autumn, which has to be the least common coloring. I need to wear warm or fall colors especially near my face or I look really unwell & awful. My vent is that when an item is available in only one, two, or three colors, MOST of the time it is available in only cool colors -- black, white, navy, gray, pink. No LBD for me; wish more of the special items were available in a warm color as well.
ReplyDeleteMy mom lives and breathes "Color me Beautiful" having studied fashion design in the early 80s, and she has passed it along to me! I always try to explain it to my friends and they think I'm crazy.
DeleteI'm not an autumn but i love fall colors especially orange and brown. Jcrew has been totally devoid of brown the last two fall seasons. I have been searching for chocolate brown pants forever!
DeleteI am also a devotee of Color Me Beautiful. As a winter I'm good to go now, but not during the reign of "makeup neutrals!"
DeleteI wish retailers would offer a range of colors so that every skintone could find something flattering.
My mom is also an autumn! I would love to 'get my colors done,' but I don't know if that still exists these days - does anyone know?
DeleteRegarding the lack of fall shades at J.Crew: I think that is more reflective of the overall trends, which for the last couple seasons have been cool and bright. Before that, there were a few years where everything was rust, olive, and champagne. During those years, I felt your pain (I have very different coloring from my mom).
Color trends are interesting. I wish red would come 'round more often - not 'modern red' (aka. reddish orange) or anything pinkish, just pure, straight up red! You'd think these things would be simple, no? ;)
Giftcard woes...
ReplyDeleteI have been issued 7 gift cards by J.Crew and they were all sent to my old address, when I specifically asked them to make sure the address is the new one! For 3 weeks, I didn't check the details on the email, and then I realised that J.Crew sent them (again) to my old address. I am really afraid that they are lost, or used.
i just find it annoying when i know the items better than CA or SAs. i emailed CS about a skirt i saw in the "one piece, two ways" feature that wasn't for sale on the site yet. i told them where to find it on the site, what it was paired with and even sent a screen shot(!) along with the email. we went back and forth a few times with them saying they didn't see it or saw something else in their version of the lookbook. i just gave up.
ReplyDeleteHaha! That happens to me all the time, though not nearly as bad as in your case! That really takes the cake. Are you talking about the white skirt in the first set of images? (The rest all come up if you click them). I believe that's the Collection pencil skirt in guipure lace, #72358. I know it only appears to come in burgundy at the moment, but if you look at the thumbnail on the skirts page, you'll see the [see more colors] label. So while I can't figure out how to help you actually get that skirt, I am pretty confident in my identification of it :)
DeleteSartorial - you should be able to get the # on the card from JCrew. You don't need the physical card.
ReplyDeleteHello Girlification of Jules - Thank you. J.Crew called me back and told me that the gift cards have been used and asked me to report as mail fraud. Thankfully, they refunded me as well. I am really lost because I don't know who to file against.
DeleteDuring the 40% off promo, my tippi sweater in neon azalea was waitlisted while my other items were shipped to me. A week later i got an email saying it was out of stock. Within a month, i see it is in stock on full price. Not happy.
ReplyDeletePhur: You should contact CS with your order # for the cancelled item, and explain the situation to them. Tell them that since the sweater is back in stock, you would like to have another order placed and the previous 40% off sale price honored, since yours was cancelled due to it being out of stock. This has happened to me on a couple of occasions over the past several years, and they have always honored the sale price on the new order, so I think it is worth a try. Good luck!
DeleteI placed an order for the same tippi and a cashmere tee that were first wait listed and then cancelled. Called CS and they had no interest in fulfilling the order. Placed a follow up email. Will let you know what they offer.
DeleteSame thing happened to me with that Tippi, they honored the sale price and the free shipping promo that was going on (for signing up with the factory).
DeleteThank you Fabulous Florida Mommy, Crewmum and Injanuity. It never occured to me to call CS since i thought it was them sending me the cancellation email. I'll call them first thing tomorrow.
DeleteThankx to you all, i am getting my tippi in neon azalea in the discounted price. Seems like "looking to vent" turned to "looking to love" for me. Cheers to jcrew and helpful jcrewaficionadas.
DeleteA minor vent. The polka dotted Perfect Chambray shirt seems to be very much in stock on the Madison and 44 St store. But they won't honor the sale price, claiming that since the shirt is not online and they can't see it, they can't give me the sale price. Which is ridiculous. Other branches will call Customer Service to get the sale price. But then I have always found the Madison Ave. store to be oddly snooty.
ReplyDeleteMaybe try taking a screenshot of the sale price the next time it pops up? I did that once at the columbus circle store and the sa thought I was a bit crazy but my craziness saved me 100 dollars!
DeleteThat's too bad! I've always good experiences at that store. Bring up the item on the website on your phone and show them - I've done that a couple times at stores.
DeleteThe side seam of my one-month old cotton twill Minnies separated today. And NOT because they are too tight - on close inspection, the stitch veered too close to the edge. ::Sigh::
ReplyDeleteThought I scored the Collection embellished shell on a popback Sat am. My package arrived today, couldn't wait to open it, and to my surprise it was a green cotton cardigan!! Of course the shell is soldout now. This is the second time in 6 months that I have received an incorrect item.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with Gayle's opinion that "editing your closet by season" is a fashion faux pas. I think it's important and fun to do so. It's part of what makes season changes exciting! Sundresses in the fall, bare legs in winter, tweed in the spring and summer... not good.
ReplyDeleteAnd how many times are they going to tell us to pair up prints (just make sure they're in the same color family)?? I get it, it works, and you told me 5 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhere have all the promotions for regular priced items gone? Last year it seems there was frequently a % off on either sweaters, knits & tees, outerwear, etc., but lately they have been non-existent. Of course the extra % off on sale is always nice, but it would be good to have a % off on regular price sometimes too.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or have these new spring rollouts been selling out suspiciously fast? I'm not saying it's never happened, (jeweled jardin jacket, anyone?) but I've also seen things 'sell out' quickly and then mysteriously reappear in sale weeks later. I've just never seen it with so many items at once.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you guys think? Do you think two brand new $700 skirts are really sold out? (Not to mention countless other new items) If so, J.Crew's target market certainly has come a long way from where it used to be...I'm sure it would make J.Crew happy. It would make me sad, though, as I feel more and more priced-out of my favorite store every season.
I am almost down shopping here-I have a belt that I recently purchased that does not stay closed. Good luck returning it-it is worn and that is the end of that. It is the same story with their t-shirts always tearing.
ReplyDeletetheir clothing is not cheap and I expect it to last.
