Starting Today: Take an Extra 30% Off Final Sale (& free shipping)

A big "thanks!" to many of you, including Maureen1125 (in this post), Christy (in this post), Closet Crisis (in this post), GigiOfCa (in this post), as well as Marietta & Irina, who let us know about another offer from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering customers 30% off any purchase from their Summer Sale {no minimum} and free shipping (over $150 *after* discounts applied) with promo code SHOPNOW. (LOL! I thought for sure the code was EXTRA30, that I didn't even realize that it wasn't. My bad!) This offer is good through 8/19/10.

It seems like J.Crew has a lot of Summer merchandise arriving from the stores that they have to move quickly online to make room for Fall. Here's to finding some great deals! :)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? Are there any sale items you are interested in getting?

  1. I finally broke down and got the denim minnies - can't beat $27.99. I had ordered them at full price and didn't *love* the way they looked so returned, but I'm still losing weight from having my 3rd baby so here's hoping they'll look better this time! Bummer that it's a final sale though...more of a risk!

  2. So very conflicted. There are a couple of items I'd love to order, but Final Sale gives me serious pause. Like so many JCAs have said, not being able to return an item I haven't had the chance to even try on is a little crazy.

JC, here's an idea: What about allowing only exchanges or merchandise credits for final sale, in lieu of getting cash back? I would feel so much more comfortable ordering, knowing I could at least have some way to not be totally stuck with a pile of merch that doesn't work.

  3. So Iearned the code wasn't EXTRA30 when I kept updating my bag and nothing happened. I havent been shopping much this summer since I just had a baby and dont want to invest in larger clothes. I pulled the trigger on the Superfine Cotton Nouvelle Jacket and pants in White. I have been wanting a white suit for years. I had to throw in headband for $9.99 to make my total AFTER the discount was $150 to get the final sale price, argh. There is a lot of good stuff on sale.

  4. So happy, I've been stalking the petite Super 120's pencil skirt in the sale section for weeks hoping the butterscotch color would come back in my size (seeing as how I had already bought every other sale color) and today I seem to have snagged the last one with the 30% off promo! Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get a cancellation email...

Also took advantage of the 20% off knits and tees promo yesterday and ordered the Microspun cowlneck tee in warm taupe. Tried it on in the store and it fit really nicely but they didn't have the color I wanted. Shipping completely negated the promo and I'm praying it doesn't get holes on the first wearing, but at least, as I learned yesterday, the stores will let you exchange if you wear something once and it gets massive holes. (In case you're wondering, the hole sprouter was a ruffle placket henley that I think is B&M only.)

Also learned yesterday that the stores won't let you purchase something from the mannequin, even if it's the only one in your size. Completely fell in love with a cream and black polka dot chiffon wrap blouse yesterday that was on sale for $59.99 but they wouldn't sell it to me :( Can't find it online so I'm wondering if it's B&M only? If someone sees this in stores in a 0, could you please let me know? I will be forever grateful! :)

  5. Sorry for the long post today - forgot one more thing! I was told yesterday at the store that the new rollout was happening last night so there may be some great new items in stores today!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Arghhhhh, I knew this was coming, but I still went ahead and bought those pencil skirts yesterday anyway. I am just consoling myself that it's probable they wouldn't be in my size today, right? Right. Right? Right. Sigh.

  7. No, I won't buy final sale any longer. Like mimi.magnolia mentioned....I have a pile of final sale items that have never been worn sitting in a box in my basement. Plus, I have received too many damaged or wrong items in the past and I no longer have the time or energy to deal with JCrew's mistakes!!! I know JCA's mentioned that stores were sending their sale stuff back to online so I am even more inclined to stay away!

I used my rewards for two nice silk scarves so my accessories will be it for my fall purchases from JCrew.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Dara, the blouse you are looking for is listed on sale under the regular price shirts and tops on the website.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Debby, not sure how I missed it but thank you!! It's priced $10 higher online but the 30% off more than makes up for it :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Dara,

I have never heard of that! I know several people who have bought items off mannequins at JCrew. Myself included:) Must just be your store????

Hope you can find your item:)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Genny, I was surprised too because I have also bought items from the mannequin before. However, in the B&M on 5th Ave in NYC they gave me a really hard time about it. They said that display items are removed from their inventory so they can't sell them even if they wanted to. I asked if it was customary to put sale items on a mannequin in a full price section of the store and I was told, "If it makes you feel any better, it's probably damaged." (I checked and it wasn't, so that did not make me feel better.) They said I could come back after the rollout but honestly I would've preferred if they had at least offered to take my number and hold it for me... oh well, it's cheaper online now anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Is the sale definitely online only?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  13. My question also. Are the stores having a percent off as well?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I bit on this one, have been waiting for an extra % off on FS.... ordered the jeweled Maya sandals, the Pilar paisley cami, and the Canterbury bells pencil skirt. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am in love with the Skimmer Pants and purchased two more in the Irish Moss and Seaweed colors. These are so comfortable on and stay crisp throughout the day. :)

As I have yet to jump on the Minnie bandwagon I went ahead and purchased a pair of the denim ones in faded black. Even though they are on FS, with the extra 30% off I won't feel too bummed if they don't look good on me.

Also picked up the Gallery Stripe Marlie shell to wear with the Minnies. Hope this outfit works out!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dara, the kind of help you get varies from the "leave the store singing & dancing" to the "why don't they just have a special line for people who want their throats cut slowly." I have found Rockefeller Ctr is generally the worst, collection & Mad Ave the kindest. The last -- in the sense of FINAL THIS TIME I MEAN IT-- time I went to RockCtr I was seeking to try on a particular pair of heels. Apparently there were so many pairs of marked-down flats to move that it was easier to tell me the shoes I wanted didn't exist. SA was annoyed when I produced style #, and when computer showed 7 pairs in store, told me that computer is often wrong! But on another visit to that store, however, when I explained i needed to try on the same item, same size, in 4 or 5 pairs due to quality/sizing issues, a different SA pulled out every pair in the store and a few in odd sizes. Thinking of buying a lunar calendar to guide my shopping.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ok, so the Bettina is 30% off, now I'll buy it. I tried it on in the store, so I know the color and size works for me so I'm not worried about it being FS. Same for the sparkle waves henley. I'm trying the Alecia peep toes. I hope I ordered the right size, but they are not FS, so I can return them if they don't work. Does anyone have the Alecia's? Do you like them? And I did get a microspun t-shirt and the shimmer crinkle tees. At that price, I'm very happy. Now if they'd just do a 20% off regular stuff, I'm dying for the wool/cashmere Icon coat.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I called my local store--online only.

    ReplyDelete
  19. JCJunkie, I love the Skimmer pants too. I have them in the Irish Moss color and love them. Probably should've bought them in the khaki color too...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dara,

Thanks for letting me know. JCrew customer service can be so wacky whether online or in stores.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Aarrgghhh.. was happily filling my cart when had to step away for a second - came back and most items were GONE.. so JCA's.. if anyone has hit the button on the pencil skirts and is now either regretting it or have the wrong size, I will gladly GLADLY buy - looking in size 4. I am going to repost this on the weekly exchange as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I ordered the pilar cami only because I have already tried it on in store so I know I like it, the petal stream tank (for $17.50 how bad could it be) and one full priced ride-along, that, if I like I will return and wait to go to sale. JC is now forcing me to shop this way since the alternatives are basically full-price or final sale/no returns.

    ReplyDelete
  23. .. And I meant JCAs. My email is reachsb at hotmail.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nothing for me from Final Sale. I'm more interested in seeing what the new arrivals will have to offer this week. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sort of OT, I got a Michael Kors catalog over the weekend. They are selling basically the exact same mongolian lamb vest (but in black) that JC has in the "collection" for $800. The Michael Kors price is ~$300. They also have a bunch of sequin tops in the $80-90 price range. Kind of shows how ridiculous the JC markup is, and why I won't buy (or keep) any of their stuff at full price.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Uh...I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things. Last winter's Toothpick Ankle, Vintage Matchstick and Stretch Bootcut Cords which have been languishing all year in mothballs are now all "repriced" from $19.99 up to $49.99!? It's one thing when you've got new colours/new stock... WTH?!?!?! Are you kidding JC?????

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just went to the JC web site and it was down with a message that they are having technical difficulties. How many years has it been since JC updated their site and they still can't get it to work right? Ridiculous. By the way, the one time that happened to me on the Banana Republic web site, they offered free shipping for the inconvenience.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wellfedfred--you nailed the inconsistency perfectly! I have been lucky with bend-over-backwards service experience on the phone. I avoid the stores as you fellow blog-readers seem to know more about and are more enthusiastic about the products than the in-store help. In LA it is laughable--particularly the men's department--they must all be aspiring actors. Having worked my way thru school by doing retail I am sympathetic but try to stick to the phone.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Does anyone own either the Boot Cut pacific wash jeans or the vintage matchstick jean that are in the sale section? I am hesitant to order (they do show up as final sale)as I only own one pair of JC jean (and they are from about 3-4 years ago) and I think their sizing has changed. The jeans I own are bootcut dark jeans in a 26 Short. However, I tried on in-store, the current bootcut jeans in the very soft Danceoff wash and a 25S fit great. Any help would be appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Frankly, I'm surprised at the number of people taking the FS risk, especially since the site glitch has been fixed. I can understand the "I've already tried on at the store/own one", but not the blind guessing on color/fit/quality. Not to mention the popbacks of used clothing! You are a lot braver than I am. As long as there are people out there willing to buy, FS will never go away (not that I think it would, JC was one of the first and certainly won't be the last), and they'll never have to revisit FS on first markdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The sale section (or part of it) is not working D: I tried to add 3 different items to my cart, but all the page would do is reload! How about some free shipping UNDER $150 as a nice "I'm sorry" present, j. crew? UGH.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nothing for me today. I considered a Carlyle dress, but there's a top-rated eBay seller who has a bunch, and this seller will let you return an item for merchandise credit, which is more than JC will do with FS.

Dara, that is quite a story about the mannequin. I don't visit JC B&M very often but I know that I've purchased off the mannequin before. Hmm, isn't the mannequin there to help SELL the clothes?

OT: does anyone know whether a Crewlet will do a charge-send? And whether they accept rewards cards?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Of Course, after I made two really big purchases online during the weekend. In any case, most of the good stuff is already gone and the T's and Knits are no longer 20off.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was really mad when I saw this news today, 'cause I bit on those belts I wanted over the weekend and paid shipping on them -- ARGH. Only one of the two is still available, though. I'm considering calling CS and asking for my one-time courtesy! LOL

I am going to get the hub some more slub polos and maybe a few trinkets for myself ... I need an intervention!

I am thrilled to bits, though, to be wearing my gold & green metallic jacquard pencil skirt today, the one I got for just $9.99 on Saturday. wheeeeeeeeeee! Love it in this heat with my white Japanese cotton twisted slub boyfriend tank (feels like linen, almost) and my sparkly snowball necklace. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. silver_lining,

I am totally in agreement with you.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hexicon, I have done charge sends from the crewlets.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I snagged the Canterbury bells skirt, denim minnie pants, Carly dress, Haya sweatshirts, and sequin tanks that I've been stalking for several weeks. I'm stinking happy with my purchases. I couldn't get thru on the Internet, so called and had a fab time talking with Andy who made sure I got everything in my cart.

FS is a hassle, but you know I've had 99.9% success with it. I think it works for folks who have tried on in the store, as many have pointed out.

I'm so sorry to hear about boxes of stuff some people can't wear (perhaps resell on Ebay?) and I sometimes am weary of J. Crew's mind games with their sale section.

I agree with mimi.magnolia: exchanges or merchandise credits seems a better way to go.

For today, I got over 500 dollars worth of stuff for 250 (used a rewards card) and it is all stuff I've had in my cart since June!

    Happy shopping!

    ReplyDelete
  38. No Final Sale for me...like FFM, I'm looking fwd to seeing the new rollout. OT I received the Mongolian lamb stole and just adore it!!! so luxe, super soft, and unique!

    ReplyDelete
  39. txmom, yes, for me, too, sizing has changed, but I find I am sometimes my old size (in toothpick cords, but not toothpick jeans, where I now take a size smaller) and I have been both my old and new size in matchstick jeans. The only way to know for sure is to try on, which doesn't help, I know. You might try calling CS and explaining that you don't really know your size because they have changed the sizing, and maybe they'll give you a "one-time courtesy" ;) Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  40. does anyone know how the Morning sunshine scoop halter top fits? I'm nervous since it correlates with bra sizes as opposed to small, medium, large. I tried on the Seersucker underwire bikini top in store and my normal size was huge--even the size under it was a little big. I'm thinking since the morning sunshine has an adjustable halter, maybe it will be better? Any advice on whether to size up or down would be most appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Genny,

Jcrew should accept damaged or wrong items; regardless if they are Finale Sale or not.

I wouldn't accept getting stuck with either.

I bought finale sale twice this weekend, but I was sure about what I was buying prior.

Those who paid for shipping this weekend, there was a FS for $150 on this site. Not sure if you knew.

    ReplyDelete
  42. txmom,

Yes, JCrew's sizing changes over time. I have items from 2002 that fit totally different from 2004 or current selections....all a size 6 or 8 or even 10!!!! Not to mention they changed to waist sizes on some pants in 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If anyone is looking for the velvet Eden blazer in the 'iris' color (dark wine/eggplant), it's findable by keyword search 'Eden' and is available in Tall sizes at $39.99 (before discount):

    Tall 8 - iris
    Tall 10, T12 and T14 - dark blossom

It's a gorgeous jacket! HTHs someone....

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, the Eden is gorgeous. I own it in several colors. Love it. I can wait for cooler weather to wear it though as I prefer summer-haha:) and it will be warm where I live until November at least!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I ordered a few things and used my Amex card instead of JC card in case I need ot use the "return protection." It seems crazy during this heat, but I ordered several winter coats. They're so cheap now!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Genny and Corry, thanks for the input. We have two JC stores in town, so I will see what they have (and try on some jeans) before calling CS and/or ordering anything FS.

    ReplyDelete
  47. jcbellemarie--is the stole the size of a scarf? do you tie it like one? Which color did you get? thanks for reminding me about it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. gemtwin, the stole wraps around my (skinny) neck completely, and there are cute light green/taupey grosgrain ties - so you can have a total fur collar or a looser one with more of the tie part showing. I got the champagne color and love it! Hope you can find one!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dear txmom:

I ordered the bootcuts in pacific wash in a 26 short (coincidence). I also have the destroyed matchstick in 26s and others, and it seems to fit me fairly consistently, except in the super baggy styles. I have the regular bootcut jeans from 3 years ago in 26s, which fit actually just a bit larger than the pacific wash. I love the pacific wash jeans. They're very drapey and soft, and a beautiful color.

    ReplyDelete
  50. mommydearest,

Yes, I won't buy from final sale. I am just waiting for it to turn to Fall Sale and items can be returnable. I would only buy final sale in stores. NEVER online even if...like Silver_Lining said: not worth the risk!

    ReplyDelete
  51. does anyone have any experience with the softspun cotton cardigan? it seems like a good basic, but i'm a bit wary with the FS.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Closet Crisis, I know what you mean about the cords! I'm so happy I snatched up a few when they were $19.99 + 30% off, because I love the way they fit. Maybe they think that since they are rolling out new cords at $78 or whatever, people will pay more for the out-of-season sale colors. Ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  53. thanks jcbellemarie. sounds fun--hope to see a good picture of it on a person in the next new arrivals which should be this week!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Grrrr. I had those Toothpick cords in my cart for $19.99 and then a couple of days ago noticed the increase. I still bought 2 pairs today on FS at 30% off (and used Amex...Jeanne...have you ever had to invoke the return protection?). I almost did the fleurette skirt, too, but was worried about sizing. Too many have said it runs small. I totally agree about the credit/exch for FS. What harm would that do?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Fidele, Thanks for the update! I may chance it but am planning to go to a B&m tomorrow and will try on some of their current jeans for sizes before I order!

Rebecca, I ordered the fleurette pencil skirt back before it was FS and it does run small. I always take a zero in JC pencil skirts and this one was tight in the hip area and formed a weird poof of fabric in the back near my waist. Returned it and am considering reordering in a 2.....maybe! The fabric is really pretty!

I've never had a problem returning items that were in the FS category if they WERE NOT MARKED FS on the receipt or package label. However, everything I've put in my cart this round has the red "warning" of FS. I would probably not try to return any of these items unless they sent the wrong thing or were defective. So , I am with all the JCA's who are hesitant to order an item they've never tried on!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Alexis,

Agreed with many sentiments on this post. Can the blog organize a boycott on FS sometime?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I broke down and bought the jeweled wool tank in warm maize, the cascading sequin cardi in gray, the canterbury bells skirt, and the girls' sequin heart tee (for my niece). While I could have added more, I had to keep it close to $150. I'll be headed down to my b&m this weekend to try on new. At the rate items are going on sale, I'm skittish about buying full price. I don't think that's what Mickey wants to hear, but 3 of my recent buys are now on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I just bought the breezy dot tank suit and a crewcuts dress for my daughter. I bought two of their other suits this summer so I'm pretty confident in how it fits, and the crewcuts dress didn't have the red "final sale only" warning.

If I hadn't worn other swimsuits from this season I probably wouldn't have gotten it. Great deal on the dress though, it came down to $20.45 and free shipping on crewcuts!

    ReplyDelete
  59. About the fluerette pencil skirt. I know it was not just me but others on this blog as well...It fit true to size for me but I returned both b/c I was not in love with the print. It just did not excite me in any way in person and was not a fan of the fabric. But as far as sizing I ordered my regular size and a size up. The size up was way too big! Just my two cents worth as final sale is now FINAL SALE for real!

    ReplyDelete
  60. P.S. There was also a post last week on the same skirt. A person said the fabric on theirs in the seat area was already starting to fray.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I am a very conflicted FS shopper. I live WAY north of the border and am nowhere near a B&M to do try-on's or returns on full-priced items. To ensure a (fingers crossed) consistent fit, I stick with "basics" when ordering from FS. I also rely on reviews & IRL pics from other JCAs... All that aside, would really love it if JC would let us exchange FS items with a "store credit" for other stuff. I placed 2 large orders in the spring when the sales section was not FS.

And I just realized that I used my Mastercard for my purchase last night. Should have used the AMEX... Drat. I got great help from AMEX before when I invoked the "buyer's protection service" when I had to return something bought on a plane flight.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I hope the Final Sale Guide on my blog helps. Check it out if you haven't. FS is really bad for all the reasons we've stated before. There's something about that Crewlade, though. Once in awhile I will throw in something that I haven't seen or tried before in-person. I always call for measurements if I haven't tried something in-person. Usually the measurements from CS are correct, so the fit is usually right. Doesn't guarantee I will like the material/color as most of the CS reps haven't seen the merchandise themselves. They're looking at it on their screen & reading descriptions. I could live with being able to return it within 14 or 30 days for store credit.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Gigi, I just want to say I love your blog! Your posts are so incredibly helpful. Checking out the final sale guide now...

    ReplyDelete
  64. No final sale for me. I bought everything I wanted at my B&M during the last 30% off - most of the sale prices were cheaper in-store than online to begin with - a trend I see happening more often. Markdowns are on Wednesdays and my PS pulls anything on my wishlist for me.

I was in my local B&M today and a lot of the new rollout was on the floor. The velvet blazer looks just like the Eden from last year -the color that was out is the same beautiful Iris color. There was a fabulous tweed mini, a gorgeous sequin skirt similar to the starland (?) from last year but shorter - I'd say a little shorter than the summer length pencils. Lots of new tees (no surprise there), and bland camis, shirts, etc. Neutral palette. There was a fabulous pair of sequin shorts - a loose blouson type fit that I can see a college girl wearing to the clubs.

I had been waiting for the Khloe cami to hit the floor since I saw it debut online -I tried it on and fell in love. It was truly stunning on, I felt like Grace Kelly! I was happy to pay full price (for once) and left knowing that it is probably one of my best J.Crew purchases.

And on a final note - there will probably be huge markdowns this Wednesday in-store. My PS says there is no room to put half of the new merchandise that is waiting in the backroom and that JCrew needs to move some older merchandise.

    Happy Shopping!

ps Dara - I sent you an email about the cami :)

  65. Hexicon: I have used my rewards card at a crewlet in the past, so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

I didn't find something I had to have for Fall (well, I did actually but the $425 J. Crew funnel neck coat will have to wait), so I spent my rewards card on some swim trunks for DH, the fiesta floral tunic in black plum (sized down based on reviews, so I hope it fits), and a henley. Not feeling terribly inspired by the Fall offerings and FS just makes me nervous, so I'm happy with what I got this round.

  66. Has anyone purchase the Jericho Hobo that's currently on sale in the deep atlantic? I am debating about it, but am afraid the blue may rub off on clothes and the bag may look too big on the rather petite me (I'm 5'2" and wears small/size o)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Dara: I've had SAs pull me items off the display if I wanted to purchase it. I hate the inconsistencies of these policies some SAs know and don't know.

Pansy: yes, we should all boycott FINAL SALE!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I may have to bite at the final sale. AHHH! I can never justify paying full price for a coat, and there are a few that I am considering. Can anyone tell me if the wool-cashmere plaza coat or carlin coat runs tts? For extra credit, do the tall sizes run tts? I hate that you can't try on talls in a store and then can't return them. Grrr.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Martha, ITA; I am right between a P and R and I wish that I could try them first in the stores! IMO the Plaza coat is small in the shoulders, though not as small as the Lady Day--it is not cut to wear over a suit jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  70. That Jericho hobo looks gorgeous! I've been debating getting it. Have no idea if the color would rub off...

    ReplyDelete
  71. A bit OT, but does anyone else have trouble seeing everything that's available onsale on the site? E.g., I only show 4 items in outerwear, but when I read barefootmartha's post about the plaza coat, it isn't one of the 4 items. Then if I search for it directly, it comes up. (And I then noticed that the lady day and Carlin coats appear to have been on sale at some point too, but of course are out of stock/no longer in my size now.) This has happened many times, and it's frustrating because I'm sure I'm missing out on good sale stuff. Probably good for the wallet but not for my closet!

    Help?

    ReplyDelete
  72. No update on the sale yesterday or today. *sigh* I was hoping for some lovelies to be added to FS. However, I'm quite sure when the promotion ends, tons of new sale stuff will be added. Oh, JC, the games you play...

    ReplyDelete
  73. Hexicon, I feel your pain. I love that they do special sizes, I just wish that they had some available to try on in the store. Michelle, I am so annoyed about the hidden sale items too! I didn't realize that they were there until I read another post about using the search feature to find the Eden blazer. I so wish that I could have grabbed the Carlin coat in a tall...but not in my size in black. I am going to order the Plaza coat (size up, and then will alter as necessary), and oddly, it won't ship until November...
