J.Crew Email: A dress delight

"Thanks!" many of you, including Marietta & Ketan, who shared an email J.Crew sent today.

The email features the Enchanté Dress (Item 28440; $170.00) which is described as:
A design darling, indeed. The silk has been washed special to achieve a subtle sheen, giving the traditional charmeuse a beautiful muted lustre. The sheer chiffon shoulders and grosgrain ribbon waist tie (that keep things as cinched or open as you like) are the perfect textured complements. Front tucks at the center front, scooped neckline and vertical pleats on the skirt give this dress that je ne sais quois that we love. Sleeveless. Shift silhouette. Side zip. Slight A-line skirt. Partially lined. Falls above knee. Import. Dry clean. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
The dress is cute with its pleats. It looks super airy and comfortable to wear. Although I am not a fan of the sheer chiffon used for the shoulders and upper back.

Lastly, you would never know this is a J.Crew Collection dress (check out that price tag!) from the styling in the email image. Is it just me, in that they really downplayed the dress with the washed-out denim vest, leather oxford shoes, & ankle socks.

What are your thoughts on the Enchanté Dress? Do you like or dislike the style of the silk dress? :)

  1. Eh...it looks like a silk sack to me. I do like the shoes though.

  3. it's so hard to tell with that contorted image! i think you're right about the sheer shoulders — meh. could be cute. have to see how it looks on. while i shudder at the sight of those socks n' brogues, i do like pairing it with the denim vest.

  4. I don't think $170 is too bad for a JC dress. However, I don't like this particular one--looks sloppy and the colors would wash out many skin tones.

  5. This is not for me, and the price is insane. Pass!

  6. I really like it, but "partially lined" means the silk skirt would probably cling like mad. I'd definitely have to pair a cut belt with it. Oh, and I wouldn't pay more than $40.

  7. OT, but was looking at ON's new arrivals online today -- several cute items, and many are JC knockoffs! It truly is a wonder they don't get sued.

  8. I looked at the dress in the same colour on the website and the stitching looks quite bad. It doesn't justify the high price, no way.

  9. This is completely unrelated, but does anyone have an opinion about the crystal tides versus the crystal milano necklace? Which is prettier/more versatile? Do they lay correctly, where the stones face out instead of up.

  10. I liked the socks! but they are not the pointelle. Would anyone know which ones are these?

  11. I don't think the price is bad at all-especially for a collection dress. As for it being downplayed, I like the look. J Crew items are great because they can be dressed up or down easily, and they're showing here how it can be dressed down.

  12. Looks like Either this was a late arrival for a may or June catalog or the factory didn't follow the specs for fabric, thread, stitching, lining, and they're trying to push it out. If it was well cut and well made, they wouldn't need to shoot it on a contortionist. Still waiting for nice stuff from fall rollout.

  13. agree with em- this is a total "clingy" type of dress...no thanks!

  14. yeah, not so impressed with this dress or the models odd bent over pose. I was perusing the website and discovered one of my wishlist items, the Drea Dress, had a major price increase. Last week it was $98.00 and now it is $118.00....wow!! That is a lot to pay for a glorified Merino sweater that needs to be worn over leggings according to the description! JCrew FAIL!

  15. It looks like a knock-off of something Lanvin would have done a few years ago.

  16. I agree with Cass and others. I think it looks sloppy and the price is ridiculous.
