"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. J Crew, change the online font. $59.99 looks like $39.99.

    $0.02

  2. I hate the price differences between online and in stores... And the giant exasperated sigh the cashier gives me when he has to look it up and give me the "correct" price. I hate having to get a bunch of different packages in the mail, but I'll take that over snotty employees and price inconsistencies. (and this isn't just JCrew. I'm looking at you, too, Gap... don't tell me something is excluded in store but included online.)

    1. I hate the price differences between, for example, the Factory site on Wednesday and the Factory site on Friday - that is, there should be price differences when you take into account the alleged sales, promos, and reductions, but guess what - the "before" prices have been manipulated so that there is no net price difference.

  3. Ticked off that 6 days after placing an order, I get the dreaded email, no longer available. I even called to check on it and both times was told that the item was definitely going to ship, just waiting on the store to process. BooHoo. :(

  4. I placed an order 2 weeks ago, and still haven't gotten one of the items. Grr. I received the second of three packages yesterday (13 days!) and the shoes were not packed well - they had not been obviously worn, but they were in a disheveled box. Not cool.

  5. Shipping times seem to have gotten very slow. I used to place an order on Wednesday morning and have it on Friday (I'm pretty close to a shipping hub). Now, my orders will sit for 4-5 days before shipping. Add that to the popbacks showing up at any time instead of just in the morning, and it's just too much of a hassle to try to grab them. Free shipping for cardmembers (like Gap brands) would really help in that regard.

  6. Now, I am madder than a wet hen...That's darn mad in the south! Guess what? I had a store check the inventory on above mentioned sandals, called a store and found them within 10 minutes myself. Are you kidding me? Would love to have faith in their ability to find things, but this is not the first time this has happened. Happy that I found the sandals but totally aggravated with J.Crew. Shout out to the store in NYC for shipping them to me directly. I could have already had the sandals, worn them, looked fabulous, etc.

    1. Lol at madder than a wet hen! I can relate. Waited 6 days for my punched out eyelet dress to ship. Thought I was going to get the dreaded we don't have enough email. It shipped from a store after being sold out on the website for several days. I was happy until I got the package and instead of a size 6 I was shipped a 12. Contacted customer service who said it was completely sold out. Returned the dress to a store this past weekend and they had about 8 of the dress. None in the size I needed but I figure the 6 was probably still out there somewhere. I should have asked in store for them to search the inventory but just felt defeated. Since I was shipped the wrong item I feel customer service could have done that for me. Glad your situation worked out in the end.

  7. Sad that the newer Matchsticks have the same issue as the new Ceces ... Quality and fit so inferior they shouldn't have the same name.

I have always been a Matchstick fan as they are cute and dressy enough for work when paired w heels - Toothpicks aren't. I had to replace my beloved Pitch Blacks and the new ones are an inferior fabric, bag out terribly, and faded in the first wash.

    1. Ruffles, thank you for the heads up about the "new" Matchsticks. I was going to order a pair to try but after reading your review and the reviews on J Crew's site, forget it. I'll just keep trying other brands until I find something that works.

    2. Did they bring the Matchsticks back recently? I must have missed it.

    3. Cate, yes they are on the website in classic rinse, white, and pitch black. Not sure when they reappeared - I ordered the pitch black a few weeks ago.

  8. Shopalot, let us know if you find a good substitute as I am in the market too :)

    1. I have been wearing Gap's 1969 real straight jeans (#364616). They are currently on sale online for $48.98. I only buy the ones that are 98% cotton/2% spandex. Noticed there are several reviews complaining about broken zippers. I'll be honest and say I have at least 8 pairs of these jeans and have been wearing them for over a year. Only had one bad zipper experience and Gap took them back and sent me a new pair. They aren't matchsticks but a good substitute for me. I have been stopped on the street and asked about them, so I guess we aren't the only ladies looking for non-toothpick straight leg jeans!

  9. Got the "happy birthday $25 off of $100" promo card in the mail today. I know I can't stack it online but will it stack with whatever "promo of the day" that they decide to run that day in store? Has anyone tried it recently?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hi! I was able to stack, but had to ask a CS person to do it for me. They did an adjustment to an order I placed online. Hope that helps! And happy birthday!

  11. The slow shipping stinks. Once the free shipping option changed to the slower shipment method my packages are now taking forever to get to me. It is not the actual shipping itself as I am close to a distribution center but the orders sit there and don't get fulfilled for five or six days before the items actually ship.

    1. Yeah, this is really annoying since they've been pretty quick about processing orders for years. Has anybody paid the $8 for 'standard' shipping? I wonder if those orders get processed faster.

    2. Just got the "wish we had enough" email for an order placed Tuesday. Wish they'd fill the orders sooner so that I would receive what I ordered. Still waiting for ship notice on a Factory order placed Monday. Really super slow lately. Very disappointing.

    3. Still waiting on an order from Monday to ship. If this keeps up it will be easier to call a store directly to order if something is low in stock when you place your order. Even if it is not low something can go out of stock in five or six days while the order is processing. If i get the cancellation notice five days later it will be more difficult to track down. I am not sure why they made the change with the shipping but did they think we would notice it now takes substantially longer?

    4. When I did online chat to ask when my Factory order would be shipped, she could not tell me anything other than I will receive the order by the 8th business day. Gee, thanks. Not helpful.

  12. Factory just cancelled my order for a sunhat from 5/25 today, out of stock. Took 4 days to say out of stock.

    1. Same here - I have a retail and a factory order still hanging out from Sunday and Monday, and now the cancelation e-mails are starting to roll in.

At least Madewell’s not affected (yet). I placed an order on Tuesday, got a shipping e-mail on Wednesday, and it’s scheduled to be delivered today.

  13. JCREW didn't post a review I had of the adorable bar earrings because I mentioned that it's a bit of a pain to return them - you have to call, etc. So here's for all of you - if you have to return fine jewelry, you have to call to request a return label and then wait 24-48 hrs for them to email you one to print via ups.

  14. For the love of God - why does it take JCrew 2weeks to process refunds? Do they receive so many refunds that they are that back logged? I am so over JCrew!!! Like - so over them. I wouldn't mind getting an email saying 'we have received your item/s and will notify you the moment they are processed' but not to communicate anything to customer - 2weeks after a package was signed for (I know I paid for DHL and tracked it all the way) is point blank rude! I am so over JCrew! I'm done!!!
