Jenna Lyons at the Met Again

"Thanks!" to Cousy (in this post) who let us know that LuckyShops had a little post about J.Crew's Jenna Lyons attending this years Met Ball (click here to read in its entirety):
Did Jenna Lyons Just Wear Pajamas To The Met Gala?
By Alison Syrett
May 4, 2015

From the simple V-neck sweater she wore in 2011 to her button-down/pullover combo of 2013, Jenna Lyons has never been afraid to skirt the Met Gala’s dress code. But she hit the loungewear look even harder than usual at this evening’s red carpet in roomy cut menswear-style pajamas. Yes, pajamas.

Seeing as it is the year’s biggest, buzziest fashion event, Lyons naturally went for a bedazzled pair, and accessorized with gold heels and shiny clutch. And although we’re not quite sure how it ties in to the whole “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme, we’ve got to give her props for taking a risk. We think it paid off—how about you?

I have to say that although it looks good on her, I don't really care for the upscale pajama set. #sorrynotsorry On a bright side, it was probably the most comfortable outfit at the event.

What are your thoughts on Jenna's look? Do you love it or would you leave it? If you could style her, what would you have her wear?

  1. Not a fan, especially not for such a formal event.

Look at Mickey in the background. To me, the smirk says, yeah, she's wearing pajamas.

  2. They appear to be the Vintage Pajamas from J. Crew, # 31314 with a mesh overlay.

  3. In general, I appreciate Jenna's style and willingness to think outside the box. But the problem is that she doesn't know when to leave it alone.

You know how there's always a kid or two who shows up at the prom wearing Converse high tops (male and female) who think they're so original but their look is actually a cliché? I think Jenna's pj's qualify for this syndrome.

I would love to see her interpretation of a ball gown!

  4. Step it up, Jenna. She looks out of place. Maybe she's not into wearing the whole gown thing....oh well. Maybe she should've hired a stylist for the event.

In other news...did you guys see Rhianna's gown/cape? Wow!

You get invited to the Met Ball, you step up your game, she didn't
    sort of insulting,

  6. I was actually surprised that nobody went for the silk pajama/robe look. The problem with this one is that it has nothing Chinese about it so it looks out of place. I think Justin Bieber nailed it ;-).

  7. The Met Ball has often been referred to as "fashion prom". Like Kate said, you step up your game. I wish she had. I think she could have done something really interesting. Having said that, I'm just SO THRILLED to see her in beautiful make up without the dreadful glasses and soft pretty hair that I am willing to overlook the odd attire.

  8. Methinks the lady did not pull it off, at all. I'm actually embarassed for her. That getup is an insult to the long Chinese cultural heritage. Pajamas? Is that how she pays homage to a culture that has been in existence for millennia and whose inventions and contributions were envied by and awe inspiring to the West when we were still in our dark ages?

I get that she likes to stretch the envelope, but it's The Met. Um, protocol please? This is an outfit one wears to a cool, musician's rooftop party in SoHo on a Friday night, not the Met event.

    1. Coddington does everything right! She should be in Wintour's position at Vogue instead!

  10. I like it, actually. It looks like she is wearing chain mail over pajamas. Which is weird and I like it!

  11. hehe. Her hair and makeup looks good!

  12. I like it too, love the mesh overlay. Jenna is a true original, and she dresses with great style and in good taste. Which is more than can be said for some of the other guests (here's looking at you KK)

  13. Embarrassing. This confirms that she has run out of ideas.

  14. Noooooooo! I don't like the pjs at all. How many of those tops hit the sale rack a J. Crew?

Her makeup looks beautiful and so does her hair. Shoe & clutch game are always good.

  15. I tried the falling pansies pants on sale but couldn't get pass the idea that it reminded me of PJs. I'm sure someone will look awesome in it but on me it looked like sleepwear.

  16. She would've looked more dressed up and less nocturnal if she had worn necklaces and/or earrings.

  17. I often think her style choices are a bit odd but she looks lovely w the new hair and makeup sans glasses. Her fame has made her more of a target for criticism, but I still admire her uniqueness. The problem for me arises not when she wears PJs instead of a gown but when her style gets imposed on everyone who shops at JCrew.

  18. As I zoomed in to the pic, I realized she is actually wearing white PJs with a gauzy layer of chain mail on top.

Ruffles is right - just hoping that we won't have collection PJs in every page of the style guide soon.

  19. It's so boring that I'm falling asleep. Not risky. Not anything. I'm tired of her.

  20. Just.saw some photos of other ladies at the event, I feel embarrassed for Jenna. Maybe next year Amal and some others can help her get ready for the event.

  21. I am going to try to recreate the look. I think I have the same PJs or similar from J.Crew and maybe I could just fix some chicken wire on top. Could be a lovely chic look for walking the dog in the morning. Look out Doodle, here comes Mama! :)

  22. There's an Instagram account, Fakejennalyons, that I follow. On occasion I'd see Jenna Lyons comment on pics of her posted by Fakejennalyons. Someone drew an image of Jenna in her Met PJ outfit done in watercolor or color pencils. Jenna commented on the image, and I was so tempted to comment on her outfit, and tagging her, but I couldn't do it. It would be rude of me to do that. It's her own personal style. If she's happy about it, I guess that's all that matters. (Her IG account is 'jennalyonsnyc') she's on, but doesn't post pics or approves people who would like to follow her account. She stalks IG users...or I've seen her comment on someone's pic of a canvas bag made with an image of her...she probably checks #jennalyons often.
    :-)

    1. Interesting, I checked her account. So weird that she only follows people without posting but she comments on her pics posted in other galleries. Thanks for sharing!

  23. After looking at what others wore, she definitely was not the most offensive but again the pajama look was not the best lol

  24. Actually it is growing on me, especially after the trio Beyonce-Kardashan-J.Lo. It's refreshingly classy. The fishnet overlay is kind of brilliant. It is probably not a spectacular look and it gets a bit lost in the evening extravaganza, but I find it elegant per se...

  25. If you're looking for a venue for a small event in this area, you may want to stop by and check it out. Their staff is very friendly and the food is great. We preferred these Seattle venues because they are all-inclusive, so you don't have to worry about chairs and catering because it's all part of the package.
