J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I saw a cute tee in the Crewcuts section of a store a couple of weeks ago - deep gray, with the word PARIS in black micro-glitter on the front. It's not in the catalog and not on the website. Has anyone else seen it? I bought the largest one they had, but if it came in even larger sizes, I'd happily get one for me. Not to wear in Paris, of course, but with white jeans at the beach. Style number on the tag is C2056. SAs were no help, BTW.

  3. A little late but I did just receive my Midweight Stripe Tee from the Jan/Feb rollout, I ordered my regular size and it was slouchy but not sloppy. I really liked the weight of the material and the boatneck was not too wide that I couldn't wear a regular bra. I liked the split sleeve although it's a little long on me so I may have to have it shortened. Otherwise a keeper. HTH

    1. I just got this tee also and love it! I ordered the smaller of my two sizes (small) and I'm not sure if I should have gone with the medium..... I think I'm going to reorder and see. This is the rare garment that I would consider ordering multiples - it is that good!

    2. I agree, I have the red/ivory stripe and I LOVE IT! I only wish that the other colors weren't navy, as I tend to wear black more often than blue.

  5. ok. so i bought the skinny stretch cargo pants (item b8708) in my regular toothpick jeans size and they fit pretty well. and i thought that was the end of it. but then i heard some people say that the pants stretch out A LOT and to buy a size smaller. so i went back and purchased a size smaller to give it a shot and they are tight. like i'm worried about VPLs and stuff. but do they stretch so much that i should keep the smaller size? can anyone who has bought these and worn them all day chime in? thanks :)

    1. I saw these reviews and am also concerned. I sized down, but I'm still concerned. It's not really the season to wear these yet, but I don't want to get stuck with them.

    2. I bought my toothpick size but haven't worn them yet. Maybe I will wear them today and let you know how they did :)

    3. The best test for how jeans/pants are going to stretch is to wear them for 30 minutes with the tags on. If they still feel too tight/snug/uncomfortable then they are too small and you should size up. If the stretch comfortably, they are the right size.

    4. Miss JR, a couple of hours in and they are still pretty good. They may have loosened up a slight bit, but are still holding their shape. I will report back at the end of the day!

    5. My end of day report is that they may have loosened up a little, but they didn't lose their shape or bag out. They are some of the most comfortable pants I own. Not sure what will happen in the wash, if they should go in the dryer, etc (if anyone knows, please chime in!).

  6. Can't remember if I recommended this before, but the Madewell Modern Military Jacket (#b5858) is great if you'd like a heavier weight, lined fatigue style jacket. I sized up to give room to layer a sweater or sweatshirt under it, but my regular size looked pretty good too if I weren't going to layer under it. If you look closely at the picture, the collar has a rib trim that's very comfortable, and inside the cuffs there are hidden ribbed cuffs. The ribbing is very soft and stretchy, not confining or scratchy.

  7. Slim cargo pant: Why did I bother? If you like the Andie, you will likely do well with these too. Material and style wonderful. Too slim in leg for me; way too big in hip and waist.
Harlow: Would have been a winner if leg not so tapered and slim at bottom.
Punched eyelet skirt: Love! No elastic on this one, ladies. Runs slightly big at waist. Took their smallest size available, and could have gone down one more. But will work with tucked in shirt. Length hits mid-low kneecap on me (5'4")
Flower sequin sweater: Mint color is amazing with the apricot-gold flower sequins. Got regular JC size. You could size down but fit is similar to model photo on me. I like the drape.
Pleated midi-skirt: Length is true, midi length. Hits me mid-low calf. Would have to be careful styling so didn't look frumpy. Good with boots or heels, not flats at my height. Warm walnut is beautiful neutral. Returned. Not special enough to keep at full price.

  8. I bought the metallic midi pleated skirt in pampered pink and reviewed it on Gigi's blog. I liked it! I'm petite and took my regular size. It was a bit long, so I'm going to see if they still shorten skirts for cardholders. The pleats were quite nice - but the skirt looked kind of matronly on me with a shirt tucked in. I think it's because it doesn't sit on my natural waist but rather on my hips. That's my body's fault, and not the skirt's. It looked much better when I had a cardigan covering the waist and the top part of my hips. The pink is very pretty and the metallic is very subtle. It's kind of sheer, though, so it needs a slip. Very ladlyike.

  11. Last week I received my order of swimwear in the Sunset Floral print and the Retro Floral print. Both are beautiful and bright in person. I ordered the combo of the French top and board shorts in retro floral and the sliding halter and board shorts in sunset floral. Both board shorts are described online as being basically the same material but the retro floral is much more shiny and feels like the same material as the top. The sunset floral board short feels thicker and has slightly more structure. I ordered XS in both but the retro floral is wider and feels more skirt-like and less sporty.
If I needed two new swimsuits I would have kept both, however, the sunset floral won as I feel the sliding halter is slightly more flattering on people who are rather small up top like me! Also, I like that the sunset floral has black in it so you can wear any black bikini bottom under the shorts.
Please reply if I can help answer any specific questions. I did feel the sizing was consistent with the swimwear I bought last year.

  12. I purchased the Elsie pumps in misty green last week - they are absolutely beautiful. I took my usual J.Crew size (9.5). They were a splurge for me with the promo, but considering they're almost sold out, I'm glad I went for them. I am liking the silhouette better than the Everly - the heel is slightly slimmer and taller but wearing them around the house on Saturday they seemed to be more comfortable than the Everlys, where I find the toebox to be smaller. These seem to have compensated in that area. I'd love these in basic black leather! The shoes are a beautiful mint green - it'll be awhile before I can venture outdoors in them but I can't wait to wear them - already have planned to wear them with the navy/white stripe midi. I posted a photo of the shoes on my Instagram @fablifeforever here

  16. Posted about this before but love the Chateau parka! I have it in black and acorn still not sure if I am keeping the acorn only because not sure if I can justify keeping two at that price tag. I'vd worn it out and keeps me toasty in Chicago temps although I would probably wear my down coat in the teens and below. I stuck with my normal size so I can layer Blazers and bulkier items underneath. It's still flattering. I also got the stadium cloth cocoon coat in Sandstone which I also love. I actually like the newer design of the Cocoon. I like the longer length and it doesn't seem as oversized as prior years. I stuck with my normal size with plenty of room to layer. I've worn it several times since I received it last week. I've purchased little to nothing other than these costs from J Crew recently.

    1. I think there might be since one of SAs mentioned, last week, that they had reduced some of the new merchandise so quickly because they had so much new stuff coming in very soon.

    2. I think there are some new things online. Not a lot, but some.

      Delete
    3. There is a new catalog, and the new roll out is in stores next Monday. I was in my store and they were looking at the pages of photos of mannequins and display areas of how to set up the new items, and there were a lot of dresses and items with new prints. They didn't have the new catalog yet but were expecting it soon. There will also be another roll out on March 30th.

    4. Wow, March 30th? That's pretty late. Roll-outs usually happen around the third week of the month...

    5. JSR - there are two roll outs in March. One this Monday, March 9th, and then again on March 30th. I'm not sure that came across clearly in my message above.

  19. Didn't like the Sequin Floral Sweater at ALL. Ridiculously unflattering. Extremely boxy and the barnacles on the sleeves hit at the widest part of the upper arm for a real linebacker look. Mint color is pretty but otherwise, nooooo.

    1. LOL, I loved that description. Barnacles....now I know what it reminds me of whenever I see it.

    2. One of the SAs at Rock Center was wearing this the other day. Not a pleasant sight. Barnacles indeed.

    3. Agree. This is a really odd loking and unflattering sweater.

  20. Think it's one of those love it or hate it items - as the mint one was low stock at my local store. I almost want to rearrange the sequins to be more scattered rather than bunched up in the middle of the arm like that. ..but I think j crews already done that scattered look. ( like on the shell?).

  21. Can anyone comment on the fit/comfort of the Factory Amelia flat? Loving the look but was hopeful someone could tell me thoughts? I usually size up 1/2 a size in all JCrew shoes but have never tried these on. Thanks for any help!!

  23. Anna dress in organza eyelet, item b9505. It's a really pretty dress but I just don't think the cut is very flattering. Even on the model in sand, and on the mannequins in the other colors, you can see that there is too much material in the midsection. Shifts are usually my favorite cut -- I have an athletic type body with a short torso, medium+ bust for my height (5'2"), and not much of a waist, so I thought I would love this dress. But even for my non-waisted body, the waist bunches and balloons. It's very strange. I ordered both the size 2 and 4, and both fit generally in the bust and hips, 2 more fitted than the 4 obviously, but in both, the waist is large and bunchy. I think it could only work on bodies with long torsos.

As for colors, I ordered the pale apricot and the caribbean sand. Both are pretty -- the apricot is the color I really wanted, and the color did not disappoint, although I would definitely call it a blush, and not an apricot. The sand is a very darkish yellowy ivory. I have the collection eyelet flounce dress from last year, which is ivory, and it's much darker. And, just FYI for those considering it, as it seems to be bizarrely restocked, that dress is very lovely and easy to wear and tts.

  24. Hi JCA's,
Does anyone have a review on the collection sequin sleeve bomber?
