Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy

ReplyDeleteA couple of cargo pants and dress reviews here.
Has anyone tried the Broken-in Boyfriend Chinos (#C0488)? There is only one color online and they are backordered. Reviews are mixed. It seems like some reviewers think the rise is high, causing a slouch in the crotch? Wish the Scout chinos were still offered. The length was great for spring for a short-ish person like me.
ReplyDeleteHi Cate, I ordered my go to regular size of 0, since it wasn't offered in petite, P2 would have been perfect.
DeleteYes, the rise is high. Even at size 0, it was big on me. I was able to pull the pant up past my belly button! Roomy all over. It's meant to be worn baggy. I returned it.
So last roll-out, it seems like they're making more. Ordered size 00. It's waitlisted, and won't get it till May.
I have a feeling sizing down, the change will be minimal and make too much difference. It's hard when they don't offer petite sizing in pants.
*corection* - meant to say, "won't make any difference".
DeleteI have them. I initially got them when they first appeared and were going so fast I figured I better get them before they were gone for good. I took the smaller of my JCrew pant sizes. I was really undecided. They were the right size but the pockets bulged out a little and they are button-fly which is typically not my favorite. They come rolled up but when unrolled they are still a bit cropped. I sent them back because I just didn't love them enough. Then a few weeks later I saw they were popping back in my size. I bit and tried them again. This pair fit me perfect. Yes higher rise but I'm ready for that again. The legs are full cut but it looks cute with the way the waist fits me. I'm really glad I retried them. Probably not for everyone, but I'm happy with mine. Hope this helps!
DeleteI've been interested in these pants, too. Might try them one of these days. I wish there was a retail store near me, I'd rather try multiple sizes on in the store.
DeleteGreetings Cate - So, I don't wear my boyfriend's khakis, but I figured this is what they would fit like if I did. I didn't mind the higher rise, but there was a lot of room in the crotch, I suppose for some things I don't possess? I got the smaller of my J.Crew pant sizes which is what I would have kept if I decided to keep them. I ultimately did not find them to very flattering, and returned them. I own the Café Cotton Capri's from a year or so earlier and think they fit much better. I also plan to purchase the Maddie in bi-stretch cotton which is a more professional option for work and better for my lifestyle. Unfortunately, the boyfriend khakis are an online-only item, so ordering and returning is the only option for multiple sizes (sigh).
DeleteThank you all so much for the great replies!
DeleteVava, my retail store doesn't have them. I'm not sure if most stores got them?
JenniferD, I don't need room for those parts either lol! I had that problem with the Eastwood jeans. They had to be hiked up so high to keep the crotch from bagging, and I couldn't get them to stay at that height. I'm liking the mid-rises a lot lately, though. Did you think this was a high rise or more like a mid rise?
levbacon, I'm glad they worked for you! I didn't realize these were button-fly, that's a deal breaker for me. I'm too lazy to deal with that :)
JSR, I hope the re-ordered pair will work for you.
After writing this, I remembered that I have the Andie chinos, but I guess I didn't like them very much because I forgot I even had them. I remember the legs being slim, and I prefer my khakis to be roomier.
Aquatic floral silk shell: I absolutely love the print. The armholes on my normal size were too big and it was a bit boxy, so I'm going to size down and see if that works. If you have a bigger chest, your normal size may work better.
ReplyDeletePrinted band sleeve shell: The pink pattern is quite lovely, and the online picture doesn't do it justice. However, it's way too big, boxy, and sheer. I'm so tired of shirts being marketed as work-appropriate when they would be unwearable without a cami. Wearing a cami would ruin the v neck on this top, so back it goes.
White 3.5 inseam denim shorts: These fit well in the waist but were tight otherwise. I may try a bigger size but had problems with my denim shorts bagging out last year, so we'll see. The material is pretty substantial with a lot of stretch, and I would definitely recommend trying them out.
Can anyone compare the two d'orsay flats from JCrew & Madewell? Asking about comfort and fit between the two, also if anyone has seen them in JCrew stores with an additional % off... I'd need a 10 :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, I wrote a review of the beach heart shirt when I saw it back up in the sale section... mine has worn horribly, the print washed out and the shirt is misshapen and I always was careful with it... Anyhow, I wrote the review and JCrew sent me a gift card! Thought that was nice of them....

ReplyDeleteAny reviews on the Mesh dress? Curious about sizing and length. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI just posted some reviews on my Instagram @shoppingcelle of older pop back items: the FEATHERWEIGHT MERINO WOOL DOUBLE-KNIT TUNIC
ReplyDeleteitem B1904 and the TASSEL TRIM STATEMENT NECKLACE A9254. Thumbs up to both.
I bought the sequin d'orsay flats (B7951) and went with my regular size. In the golden color. They fit nicely but squeak. I'm hoping the squeaking goes away when they are broken in. :-)
ReplyDeleteVivian D'orsay loafer, Madewell. I really like the look of these shoes, cute and a bit edgy, imo. I could use some advice, though!
ReplyDeleteI ordered these in my regular size and a half size down. In my regular size they fit and feel great except that my heel slips out of the right shoe every time I take a step.
A half size down, my heel stays in the shoe, but the shoe feels a bit tight along the side of my big toe to the ball of the foot in both shoes. I am leaning toward keeping the smaller size, but am not sure if they will be stretch out or be too uncomfortable to wear. Anyone have any thoughts? Have you experienced this problem? Thanks!!
I would try using a heel grip pad or insole in the larger pair to see if that solves the problem.
DeleteGreetings maryeb - I agree with Lili316. Shoes should fit you on the first try. If you have to stretch a shoe, it is too small for your foot. Your heel may slip out when wearing them for a few minutes on the carpet, but after a full day of wearing and walking around in them, you may not have this problem anymore. Contrast this with a sized-down pair where you may be dying by 6:00 p.m., particularly in warmer weather when you feet can swell. I've seen the shoe and assume you will not wear socks or any sort of foot liner given the style? This makes a difference in that there is more friction between your foot and the shoe, which can really show itself by the end of the day. On the other hand, a shoe that is too big is awful too. You may want to call customer service to see if they have additional feedback from customers on sizing and stretching. Good luck - Jennifer
DeleteThanks so much for the advice!!
DeleteI reviewed some more new arrivals on my blog.
ReplyDeletethanks for the detailed reviews. The chevron dress seems to be another of the dreaded "too deep V " mistake !!!
DeleteThe aquatic floral dress looks amazing on you! I love the cut and the colors! But the chevron dress is such a disappointment...too bad about the V!
DeleteThe tie-dye indigo scarf seems to have gone straight to sale but it is, as the reviewer notes, a very nice piece indeed -- 100 percent cotton, not scratchy, with an even block print (they made it in India where's there's a tradition of these prints, hence some know-how). Perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have reviews on the scalloped color block black and white dress from the factory?
ReplyDeleteUpdate on review of Vivian D'orsay loafer - I've been wearing these d'orsays around the house and find that the half size smaller are a better fit. The looseness of my usual size just got worse with the little bit I've worn them. The leather at the front of the shoe is nice and soft. The heel has enough structure to conform to my heel without digging into it.
ReplyDeleteGreetings maryeb - Glad you found your right size. Drives me crazy to size up or down and wonder if I got the right one! Jennifer
DeleteJ Crew - 3 reviews, incl the v-neck metallic tee in this post
ReplyDeleteHello! Does anyone have any feedback on either the Reid Cone Denim or the Matchstick jeans, both in white? I normally wear a 2 in J.Crew bottoms, so I'm trying to score a popback in a 26 for the Reid jeans in white. Feedback from a CS rep indicated that the jeans are similar in style, but the fabric differs slightly (though it looks like both are made with the Cone material). I looked at the Toothpicks in white as well, but wondering if they'd be too tight. If the Reid jeans run small or big, I may be able to do either a 25 or 27 (managed to order the 27 this morning, but it's on backordered). Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteI think Reids run a bit small.
DeleteGreetings Danielle - A size 29 in Denim is my go-to, and that is what I kept in the Reid Cone Denim Jean in White (B3581) and Reid Jean in Black Wash (B1268). I purchased 28's to try in in both of these washes, but found the 29 to be the right fit (I take a 28 in J.Crew's bootcut jeans and their Matchsticks in Classic Rinse). I can't speak to the other Reid washes. I love the stretch in both of the Reid's that I have, and find the leg opening to be between a Matchstick (straight) and Toothpick (skinny), so they work with flats, heels, and tall boots. With summer coming, hopefully another round of the white Reid's will show up. Good luck! Jennifer
DeleteI am consistently a sz. 2 in J Crew pants (Minnies, Campbel, Turner, Cafe Capri), but take a 27 or even 28 in J Crew denim (the only time I've ever taken a 26 is in the the looser boyfriend styles). I have a few pair of the Reid crops and took a 27 in those, but found I had to size up to a 28 in some of the full length Reids (I think it depends on how much stretch is in the fabric). I also almost always size up in white denim. ie: 27 in the Lookout High Rise, but sz. 28 in the Lookout Cone Denim in white. I've also found that the few pairs I have that were made with Cone denim don't stretch or give as much as other denim fabrics.
DeleteGreat feedback!! Maybe it's OK if I don't end up getting the 26 size, if the Reids do run a bit small and if it's better to size up in white. I've never purchased denim from J.Crew -- I've always managed to find Gap jeans that work for me, and right now I wear the same size in both Gap jeans and their other pants. I have the Minnie, the Pixie, the Café Capri, and the Andie chino, and I wear a size 2 in all of those. But I know there was a time when I did have to size up in Gap denim, so I'm glad I asked. And I'm happy I bit on the size 27 Reids when they popped back this morning! I'm definitely looking for slim-cut white jeans, and I'm feeling very hopeful if the leg fit is between a Matchstick and a Toothpick. It's exactly the fit I'm looking for. I may need to check out the other denim offerings once I'm finished with my Gap jeans.

ReplyDeleteLookout High-Rise Crop Jean in Parker Wash (B8839) - Ordered size 26. Color is not the same as the online photo, where it looks a tad faded; mine did not have fading. The length was fine because its cropped. I am usually a 25 or 26 in regular rise jeans, and these ran small on me. My muffins were popping out...no bueno, haha!. Maybe a 27 might work, but it might give me a saggy butt though.
Weird, because when I tried on a 26 high-rise at Madewell before, muffins didn't pop out. Hmm...
Drawstring Foulard Pant - Ordered a P2. I saw this at my B&M, and fell in love with the foulard material - not flimsy at all. Tried on a 0, which didn't fit me. Glad that these are on sale online. The length is perfect, the fit is perfect, and no saggy butt. It's a great spring pant, and it is worth with the 30% off promo!
Also received the Saint James Slouchy Tee in XS - It fits TTS. I was worried that the word 'slouchy' would be a mess on me, but I actually like it. Still planning on returning it though..for $90 minus the 20% THANKYOU promo, its still not worth it.
DeletePull-on Tencel Linen Pants. Roomy in the legs and runs big overall.
ReplyDeleteMarcie Suede Wedges. I have wide feet and these felt tight in the toe box for me. I tried my usual J Crew sandal size and a half size up. I wonder if they might stretch out a bit. The bigger size was the one I'd get, if I were to take a chance on them. I really like the platform height without the wedge. If you have them an if you know if they stretch out, please let me know.
Factory nautical knit dress (c0178) - nice weight fabric, flattering boatneck, not too short (hit a little above my knees at 5'5") and NO ZIPPERS. That being said, my usual S felt a bit roomy all over and I think I might be able to size down for a better fit. If you can get to a store to try two sizes, I'd recommend it. I actually like it better than the Maritime dress because there are no zippers. It has notches on the side but they're not exaggerated. No pockets. Thumbs up - the current promo and GC coupon brings it to about $31.
