"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I have three flannel button downs-one from fall '13, fall '14, and holiday '14 that are all missing multiple buttons...the buttons are cracking in the dryer! So I can't even see them back on! I finally got fed up this morning when I pulled out the newest one, only to find FIVE buttons came off and broke in the dryer. I emailed csr with pictures and the offered to pay for me to have someone put new buttons on, but they don't have extra buttons to send me. Anyone else having this problem??

    1. I have, but on some newer Jackie sweaters. The new buttons just seem to break really easily.

    3. A couple of mine have done this and ALL of my husbands flannels and button downs from J Crew do this.

    4. Buttons fell off my Schoolboy Blazer! I hope they will be willing to replace at least the buttons since I did pay $198.00 for it...

  2. this happened to several of my husbands shirts. CS was very helpful, gave us a refund toward the shirts via a gift card (equiv to paying the bill to a tailor I suppose), and also sent a package of buttons. It takes a while to get the buttons, because I think they come from china (?).

    1. I wish that would of been the response I got from the csr. I would much rather see the buttons back on myself...what if I can't find buttons that match?

  3. I am about to start a new job with a fairly conservative dress code. I need work-appropriate, trouser-style pants, so I went straight to my beloved J Crew, of course. Even the Super 120s pants are unlined! Ugg! So frustrated!

  4. I find it irritating that J Crew styles most of their models for the online photos wearing black Roxie's or mirror metallic Elsie's. I find it very jarring and often a distraction from the look they're trying to create. I realize that it would take more work during the photo shoots, but it seems worth it to both showcase more of their shoe offering and to complete the looks that they're trying to create.

(And count me in as someone who doesn't like the Roxies or the metallic Elsies, though Elsies in other materials are nice).

  5. I put on a cardigan I bought from Madewell's website for the first time this morning, reached into the pocket, and pulled out a used tissue. It was pretty gross, and when I contacted Madewell about it, they offered me reduced shipping on a future order ... and that's it. Not even a percentage off a future order, Madewell? Come on!

  6. Are stores allowed to reject your valid student ID? I get told all the time at my J. Crew locations (with the exception of one factory store in a different state) that they don't accept student discounts. Ummm....
