J.Crew's Martie Pant {love or leave them?}

"Thanks!" to many of you who let us know about J.Crew's latest email.

The email sent this morning features the newest style pant from J.Crew: the Martie Pant (item B8521; $89.50). Like the Minnie, the Martie Pant comes in several different shades. J.Crew describes it as:
If you liked the Minnie you're going to love the Martie. Higher waist + cropped length = legs for miles. Even better? It goes with just about everything.
We discussed J.Crew's Pixie and Minnie Pants awhile back (refer to the "J.Crew Showdown: Pixie Versus Minnie" post). I am a big fan (alright, fanatic!) of the Pixie. Less of a fan for the Minnie (since I never thought it fit me well). However, I am intrigued by these pants. Especially since they come in so many colors (seven!) besides black and navy.

What are your thoughts on the Martie Pant by J.Crew? Have you tried them on? Already purchased a pair? If so, please share! :)

Quick Poll:  Which pant style is your favorite?

  1. I would love them if they were not a side zip, they never work for me. I am fine with the rear zip but the side always seemed to bump out at my hip in an unflattering way on the Minnie, it could also be how the zipper is sewn. I loved the Dannie pants from his fall and I was hoping they might be back in a lighter fabric and different colors but I don't think they were very popular. Maybe I should give them another try to see if the zipper lays better than the Minnies for me.

  2. No belt loops :( I wear Minnie's regularly for work and love them. I hang my work badge (for getting in/out of buildings/offices) off of a belt loop. I'd probably love these if they had belt loops.

  3. Enough with the cropped skinny pants...give me something that is casual, covers the ankles, slight bootcut, and not denim.

    1. Yes! Totally agree! I am so sick of cropped pants. I'm not sure who they look good on... not me!

    2. Cropped for others is one less trip to the tailor for me :-)

    3. Agreed, I love some cropped pants (which for me are just ankle pants) but I would like the option for a stylish FULL LENGTH pant!

  5. I love cropped pants as even in winter I refuse to wear socks... that said, most of J Crew's pants just don't fit me well (or I don't fit them well). But I will definitely try the Marties soon, hoping not to be disappointed again.

  6. I'm probably one of two who don't like the Minnie's or Pixie's. I know, WHAT? But I really like the Martie's. They're slimmer than the café capris with no rear sag (which I also liked even though they sagged in the rear some) but not skin tight like the Minnie's and Pixie's. I feel like I could wear these without having to wear a super long shirt (not with a short shirt, not me, not ever!). Since I'm 5'4", these are the perfect length on me. As soon as there's a promo, I'll get at least 1 pair.

  7. Ok, so I may get booted off of JCA for saying this, but like math teacher, I too don't like the Pixies or Minnies. They crotch me, and they look crotchy too. Ok, I said it! Now, as I can see in the picture, these may suffer from the same problem on me. I may just have to continue wearing skirts and dresses until I can find a pant that doesn't feel, well... crotchy.

    1. We can, but other than my husband, I don't think anybody is interested, BB ;)
Ok, this concludes the R rated section of JCA. Sorry for the adult interlude.

    2. Anthro Blogger - I know this is 2.5 years later, BUT - lengthening the crotch is an easy fix. I'm sure any tailor could do this for you. I've done it with some of my own pants.

  8. I think the Marties are much better cut that the others. I bought a few - sale + promo - and I'm getting a lot more use than I expected. Of course I wish that the fabric was all wool and not a concoction brewed up by evil witches hoping to diversify. In fact this is the first time in my life that I've knowingly and voluntarily paid money for a blend. (Don't say anything to my Nana.) Length, cut, waist assembly- looks like real clothes.

  9. no pixies, minnies or marties for me. I thought I had a winner with the Harlow but they were too tight in the calves ( I have big calves but not big enough to have to order calf extentions in boots.) I wonèt ^pay to have them altered after now reading they are not even all wool....Darn again J Crew.

  10. I haven't tried the Marties. Minnie pants were fugly on me--I have short legs and an hourglass shape, so the Minnies cut my legs off and the low, flat waist emphasized my widest part. I love, love, the Maddies, but I seem to be the only one, because they are languishing at sale plus extra 50%. The higher, smaller waist is great for an hourglass figure, and the full length gives some visual stretch to my short little legs.

  11. Love the Minnies and can't wait to try the Marties. I find a side zip very flattering as it eliminates the bulk of the front fly. That said, I also have the Campbell Capris in both black and navy - love those too.

  12. I have never fit JCrew pants well until the Martie's! For your reference, I am a solid 2 in Banana Republic (oops, can I say that here?). The Martie's fit tiny so I had to size up to a 4 - beautiful cut and quality. Love the little cut out at the ankle. Oh and I'm only 5'3" so they hit just about the ankle. I am a ankle-pant addict...

  13. I actually found these pants at TJ Maxx, I tried both in size 0 or 0P and was surprised they actually fit me. I've ordered from JCrew's website and they were way too small so it's very inconsistent. I have wider hips, so I have to carefully pull the pants past my hips before I can hook the pants to zip. I feel if the hook were to break them I probably wouldn't be able to keep the pants up. Calf are a bit funky looking, but not bad since I found them for $20. Should they be fitting very snug since there's no belt loops?
