J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Not a review of new arrivals, but I received my order of Outdoor Voices stuff from the third party promotion last week. I LOVE it! It's so comfortable and really high quality stuff. I've worn the pants to yoga once and they are even better than my Zella stuff that I usually wear. I sized up in the yoga pants (tights) and that was the right call. They are tight without being constricting. I ordered my regular size for the running pants and they are perfect. I can wear those for yoga, running, or just around town. They are really nice. A nice, lightweight fabric. The yoga pants are definitely a little thicker than the running pants. Oh, the yoga pants also have very flattering seams. I ordered two tanks (one size up from my regular J. Crew size) and these are perfect, too. Good weight and length. I wish I ordered the jacket with the promo. I love finding good quality and stylish activewear that isn't lululemon brand. I'm really pleased with this stuff. I forgot who suggested ordering it with the promotion, but THANKS!

    1. By yoga pants, I mean "leggings" and by jacket, I mean "hoodie," in case anyone is actually looking for these products on the website.

    2. I bought several items too, and love the fabric. The sweat pants and hoodie are great, as are the tanks. They all feel great and hang perfectly, skimming without clinging. The only item I may return is the sports bra -- JC was out of black, and I don't love the grey/black combo. All in all, a great brand, definitely recommend.

    3. I was eyeing this stuff during the third party promo but ultimately passed. A little sad that I missed out! I really like Zella, so it's good to know that this brand is even better.

  6. A review of the J. Crew Full Spectrum Crystal Necklace here I think that this piece is absolutely gorgeous. Stores were offering 25% off jewelry last week, but I'm not sure if that promotion is still going on. HTH!

  7. I got the Madewell black zip overalls last week. I really like them. They are very nice quality denim. I really like a belt in the belt loops to dress them up a bit. I tried one of my J rew calf hair leopard belts and loved it. I think they run TTS. The legs could be a bit more tapered but overall I really like them.

  8. Anybody have any of this year's Cambridge Cables? I've been waiting for them to go to sale which unbelievably in Feb they haven't. I have a few turtlenecks from the days when they didn't pill and I'd like to replace them - they have been a good winter basic here in the Midwest and I do like the slim fit. But do the new ones pill badly?

    1. I ordered the Cambridge Cable Chunky Turtleneck in the Fall, sent it right back. It was pilling right out of the bag. So disappointing, as the color, burgundy, was gorgeous, and I really wanted a nice, warm turtleneck.

    2. Thanks Maryeb! I was afraid that would be the case ...

  9. Reviewed the dulci kitten heels, very cute, comfortable heel but sizing a little off. I'd recommend to size down half a size

  10. The Broken-in Boyfriend jean in Rockford Wash (B6348) (called "Freddie Wash" when you look at the item) has 2% elastane in it, unlike most of J. Crew's boyfriend jeans. If you like a bit of stretch in your jeans, you might like these. The wash is nice. I took a size down from my Toothpicks and Reids.

The Suede D'Orsay flat (C0445) in Kraft Brown hurt immediately. I have a wide-ish foot, usually a size 8, but I've been taking a 7.5 this past year or so in J. Crew flats because they seem to have lengthened the foot bed. 7.5 has been my size in other J. Crew flats but not these. Length-wise, I think they were good, but they dug into my foot in the front on both sides of my feet. I've got another (cheap) pair of d'orsay flats from DSW that don't do this, so I think my foot isn't too wide for the d'orsay style, but this J. Crew pair might be tricky if your foot is wide.

I tried both styles of the leather cuff bracelets and I like them both. I probably will keep the wide brown cuff. The white one seems like it would get dirty easily.

The Stripe-Trim sweatshirt (C0038) is oddly shaped and unflattering on. It is very wide and the sleeves are not full-length.

  11. Few recent purchases:
Back zip wool pique pants (B4776) Tried these on a whim, took my regular Minnie size and really love these pants. The inseam is an inch longer than the Minnies and the material is a bit dressier IMO. They look like the new Martie pant (which I'm excited to try) and the back pockets have zippers which is a different touch (they're not delicate zippers, they're sturdier metal zippers, so exposed on the pockets). Material wise, they seem like a less stretchy wool version so kind of a cross between the wool and the twill minnies. I think they fit a tad less fitted than the Minnies, but don't have the same stretch. I picked these up with the extra 40% off sale and am glad I gave them a try.

Dolman dress in double-serge wool (B5536). Ordered this in navy - this is a wonderful suit dress, it is a very dark navy and a nice thick wool. The sleeves are a little puffy and I'm not sure I would pair this with a suit coat, but it's a nice wear alone suit dress. I'm 5'8" and the regular fit right above the knee, so it is not terribly short either which I really liked. I'm a solid 12 on top and a 12/14 on bottom and the skirt on this just fits me - so on some the skirt might be a little looser if you have less junk in your trunk than I do. With tights and heels and a nice necklace I think I'll get a lot of wear out of this. My only complaint is the waist is not as nipped in as I would have liked - I lose a little of my hourglass shape in this dress but nothing I can't remedy with a belt.

Dutch Floral pant - these have been popping in and out of stock and after missing out on the skirt, decided to give them a go. I'm a 12/14 on bottom and went with a 12 in these and they are a tad loose but not enough that I could have gone down another size. A few people said the legs are slim and I agree, but with the slightly large fit I was ok. They are blousy at the waist which could bother some but I styled them with a longer sweater and didn't have an issue. They are very clearly polyester - while the print is beautiful and very bold, they feel and upon close inspection look polyester. Personally, I love the print and will get wear out of them, even if they're only in style for a year or two, they were worth it on sale to me! I have photos on my Instagram @fablifeforever

  12. Received my shipment with the Textured Block Print Skirt from new arrivals. I had high hopes for this skirt. I have the LACE-STRIPE SKIRT #A2660 from spring/14 and I love it, the design is perfection in my mind and looks great. I thought this skirt would be the same, totally wrong. I knew that the material was heavy based on Gigi's review and I had seen it in store. But I really had a Sound of Music moment with the whole wearing clothes made from curtains. I loved the placement of the pockets on the front seams and the black piping, even the exposed zipper which I know some people hate did not bother me. But unlike the above skirt, the pleats went all the way around. With all the talk about J Crew's collaboration, I can't understand why a group of designers would all agree that emphasizing a women's butt and stomach is a good thing. Why did someone not say, hey that's not a good look, let's only have the pleats strategically placed. It reminded me of a dirndl skirt from way back and not a look most woman could pull off. I had purchased in two sizes and the larger size was a better fit, because the skirt could ride lower and therefore be longer and I am only 5'1". But it is going back, again J Crew missed the mark with this skirt.

    2. WOW. Not only did my review get posted but I got an email from J Crew saying they were sorry that the item did not work out for me and that they were sharing my review with the team. My ears are burning about what they are most probably saying about me LOL.
