JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  2. Net-a-porter has the acorn sterling skirt in sizes 2, 4 and 6...Should I bite?? I really wanted this skirt. Unfortunately, I cant' get the promo or anything on it. I've never purchased from net-a-porter...anyone want to weigh in?

  4. Jingle promo includes Free Shipping now. Yay! Also, I saw new items and further price reductions in the sale section. I posted a list of items here.

  5. Patsystone, Net-a-Porter has great customer service and they always wrap their packages beautifully. If you want the skirt, you're in good hands with them.

  6. Just got the warm jade cafe capris - any good winter styling ideas?

  7. Bought the caramel/tan cashmere sweater in size small under the influence of a great price and persuasive SA. The arms and the hip fit perfectly, but the waist is large. Do I wear a thick belt to nip it in? I paired this with the twill jeans in blue and thought I looked a bit, um, chunkymonkeyish, but then my the phone of my camera was more forgiving. How does this sweater fit on you? And do you make the waist fitted in some manner?

  8. patsystone: I noticed the skirt on Net-A-Porter, too. I say go for it, especially since the shipping and returns are free. I have the skirt in both colors and absolutely LOVE it! If you have a pear or hourglass shape then it is an extremely flattering on. I will definitely buy it in more colors if J.Crew offers them. :)

  9. Does anyone have advice about what color shoes to wear with the Jazzy Purple No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Wool? I am going to wear the cool pine (green) cashmere sweater with the skirt. Thanks!!

  10. rynetta, do you have the dried orchid or charcoal Jackie sweaters? I've worn my jazzy purple skirt with those two sweaters. I've also worn it recently with the satin snowflake and beaded reindeer tees from Holiday 08/09.

I wish they would have put out some nice holiday tees this year. The factory ones didn't really float my boat. Just a bit too cheap-looking. I'm not much for embellished tees so they have to be nice and pretty, simply whimsical won't do.

  11. Rynetta, do you have a shoe in leopard or tortoise? I would wear those with the purple skirt.

  12. Thanks Caille and FFM! I'm just balking at spending $140 on myself when my holiday shopping isn't even done yet!

  13. rynetta-- i was going to suggest leopard print heels too...

  14. xoxo, Desert Flower, and Miss JR: Thanks SO much!!!

xoxo: I have both the dried orchid and charcoal jackie sweaters. I LOVE the idea of pairing them with the jazzy purple. And, I also love your ideas about the tees!!

Desert Flower and Miss JR: what a great idea! I own the Juliet midheels in tortoise.

I LOVE this community. Thanks again, ladies!!!

  15. rynetta, I totally missed the word "shoes" in your comment. Doh!

I like animal-print shoes with the skirt too. The tortoise print will be perfect. I have the leopard-print Juliets and they also go well with the deep persimmon pencil skirt from 2008 so I assume if you have the bright flame from this year they would pair up nicely as well.

  16. xoxo: I'm glad that you missed the word shoes because you've given me several more styling options!!!! Thanks a bunch!

  17. Need some help on ideas to wear with the Harper crackle-metallic platform heels I just received. Thanks so much!

  18. I agree that the leopard Juliets will be perfect with that outfit, rynetta! Or, if you have any olive/gold toned shoes, they would work also, I think!

  19. Can anyone tell me if the daisy lace tee runs big or true to size? Thanks!

  20. WMM - I put up some irl pics of the warm jade capris yesterday in this post. The items I show are more summer tops, but there are some color ideas. It also looks good w/the wildcat Natasha and a black cardi. Any print top w/black in it and a black cardi would look good. Black is an obvious neutral but it looks very sharp w/the green. 'Sharp'...that's some 70s slang courtesy of my parents. *lol*

  21. Dissertante, you mean the cable sweater? Mine is not fitted but not large either, I think it hugs nicely my tummy. I don't think it's a good idea to belt it as it isn't long enough.

Need color styling ideas for the glen plaid skirt with bow. Between the tuck-in only and the colors I don't have any ideas besides a silk Madewell shirt similar to the Lucinda in chestnut.

  22. tiffany rose - Just 'discovered' your blog last nite. Very cute! I have those Harper heels and would put them on with almost anything. You posted the Spencers. I have the colorblock version that's similar. You can see how I styled them casually in this post with a checked shirt. Hope that gives a little inspiration. You can totally do the heels w/your cute pencil skirts, but I say throw them on to bump up what might be a more ordinary look.

  23. Thanks Gigi! Considering I will be wearing bright green capris (a la Mary Tyler Moore!) I think Sharp is very appropos! I have not yet bitten on the leopard natasha, but now I think I might! I have faithfully been watching the wild beet lulas and they finally went on sale yesterday and I did NOT take advantage of the free shipping! - I definitely want to wear them at Christmas and did not think they would arrive in Canada on time! I love the pics on your site - very helpful!

  24. J.CrewJD, thanks SO much! I just looked at the tortoise/leopard print shoes with the skirt in my closet and it looks lovely together! Thanks again to you, xoxo, Desert Flower, and Miss JR for pointing to this combination! Again, I LOVE this community!!!

  25. @ema: the cashmere zip sweater, with the zipper on each shoulder. the cable sweater fits much better, though.

  27. Hi ladies, I need some holiday party outfit inspiration:) I'll be attending a few, but my brain just can't come up with looks. Can anyone direct me to some good polyvore sets with holiday party looks? Thank you!

  28. I have the black tipped hacking double serge wool jacket and it's beautiful. I just don't know what to wear with it! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

  29. @ Dissertante, are you suggesting the waffle cashmere sweater or just the colors? I don't think I could tuck it in, I tried with the cable one but It added bulk. However the colors are a good inspiration. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @ema: I was suggesting the sweater itself--perfect in the shoulders and arms but very baggy in the waist. It looked fitted on the model, though...sigh.

  31. thanks Gigi! For stopping by my blog and giving some ideas on the metallic heels. You're right, I can picture them with just about anything, the first thought is rolled up skinny selvedge jeans and a white shirt and chanelesque jacket with subtle gold threads ...
