ReplyDeleteSo nice to see these promos:)
ReplyDeleteAny reviews on the Hacking Jacket in Tweed? Thanks!
sub.
ReplyDeleteSub:)
ReplyDeleteI'm inclined to grab the velvet school boy blazer and a couple of perfect fit tops/cardigans
ReplyDeleteNothing for me, yet - I'll keep an eye on the sale section throughout the weekend. The last couple of promos, they've updated it pretty regularly.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, you can't go wrong w the Velvet Schoolboy IMO. I have worn mine with everything this season. And I haven't noticed a significant quality decline w this year's version vs. previous seasons, though I definitely I have for other jackets.
ReplyDeleteOT, but maybe this will inspire some of the color choices for the items JCAs are grabbing during these promos ... Pantone announced that the "Color of the Year 2012" will be "Tangerine-Tango." Article below. It looks remarkably like J. Crew's "Flame" and designers report that they will be pairing it with hot pink and navy.
ReplyDeleteHmmm looks familiar. I'm glad I have accumulated a few pieces in this colorway.

I ordered the hand knit cashmere sweater that's on special today at Lands End Canvas, but now I really can't handle any more promos. I'm not even shopping the Talbots 40% off everything today. Too much, too much...

ReplyDeletehmmmm... i don't know... i've bought quite a bit of stuff for myself... contemplating the cashmere shawl collar sweater but not sure it's totally worth it. thoughts on sizing/quality/etc? i took an XS in the cashmere henley but not sure i'm keeping it. is the shawl collar sweater worth $150?
ReplyDeleteRufle-
ReplyDeleteThank you ...thinking about getting the petrol blue!
I'm packing up boxes from my last promo with great sadness. The Chunky Cambridge turtleneck has got to go despite it being so gorgeous. Why JCrew, the rabbit hair? it was a fuzzy mess, but the design and fit were beautiful. I'm really serious about being sad to not buy this in champagne.
ReplyDeleteOn another sad note, I have to let go my Mirabel Puffer from last year as it is too big for me. Navy size Small. LOVE this, I have it in charcoal too and that one fits better. Last year's puffer were SO AWESOME. email me if interested: karenturk1@gmail
MissJR- yes, the cashmere shawl collar sweaters are worth it. I have it in 2 colors and am getting a third. It is a top that is very easy to wear. I found it TTS, and it fits a bit longer than the henley.:>
ReplyDeletePS, my Meribel Puffer is NWT, never worn. Now I will stop co-opting the board. Have a great day ladies!
ReplyDeleteAfter the couple of 25% off and free shipping no minimum I will be passing. Hope they offer the above again but if not oh well!
ReplyDeleteAnything going on instore? Extra % off?
ReplyDeleteFinally snagged the Seine Stripe top on promo and extra 25%!!! Yay.

ReplyDeleteJeanne, that LEC cashmere sweater is DIVINE! $200 is a really nice price for it too, esp considering that's what J.Crew charges for some of their summerweight cashmere!
ReplyDeleteI am done shopping for now, I think.
ReplyDeleteDoes any one have reviews on the Perfect shirt in solid and Vintage thermal sweatshirt?
ReplyDeleteI may try to get an order up to $150 to get this promo...finally. I need to work clothes too desperately for the new year.
Okay, two other questions. What color is probably easier to match, the bright blue or viridian green in the pencil skirts? I take a size 4 in the skirts (tad big in waist), do I need a 4P or 6P? I know it usually is a size up for petites but CS and a PS seem to disagree. UGH!
ReplyDeletetxgirl-
ReplyDeleteI just received the perfect shirt in solid yesterday. I purchased the modern red color.
The shirt is silk / cotton so it does drape a bit and has a bit of a sheen. The down fall. It is really thin, a bit sheer, and feel like if I put my arms forward too many times it will just burst.
I didn't feel it was worth the price I paid ($40+ on sale). The modern red isn't the same color in person as it is online. I knew modern red anything was bright so I expected this. It is the typical florescent red with a hint of orange. HTH
I also just did a review of the Shelly Dress on my blog HERE for all you sale shoppers out there.
My big purchase with this sale was the Double-cloth townhouse trench in heather caramel. I scored it last night with the 30% off promo from yesterday and todays 25% off bringing my grand total to $184.00.
ReplyDeleteThat is the most I have ever spent on a coat. I love the styling of this one and I hope I love it as much in person.
Origami size 2 dress arrived today and finally fits like a sheath dress! (I'm a J.Crew 2 in tops, 6/8 in bottoms). Fitted without looking tight--very nice. The question: do I also keep the 4 for days where I'm feeling bloated and/or having gained weight? As it stands, the 4 is comfy, looks like it could be taken in, but also sits well as more of a flowy sheath dress (if that makes sense).
ReplyDeleteFor you pear-shaped ladies: the sheath dress is great fit. Follow your bust size, as the slight A-line is very accommodating.
Forgot to ask what I meant to ask: how long has the Origami dress (the cut) been around? Can I count on it being there in a year or do I have to stock up?
ReplyDeleteTXgirl14, do you mean which color makes it easier to put outfits together? If so, the bright blue. I ordered both colors at the same time and I am canceling the veridian green... I just don't know how often I'd wear it. The bright blue is definitely easier to wear IMO... you can wear it with orange, red, gray, ivory, black, camel, and probably many other colors.
ReplyDeletethe promos are dizzying!
ReplyDeleteTXgirl14, my vote goes for Viridian green and I am definitely more of a blue than green kind of person. I was sceptical of Veridian Green thinking I have nothing to wear it with, but it turned out surprisingly versatile. Probably because the color is 'heathered', so it picks up other tones in your outfit.
ReplyDeleteI was excited about Bright Blue and ordered it the minute it showed up but I was disappointed. The blue is flat and very bright (think electric or turquoise), it clashed with everything I tried it with.
But that's jmo, maybe I was expecting much cooler/grayer blue to wear with white/black/gray/silver.
Btw, if anybody has Nordic blue for sale in size 4-8 please let me know and I will love you dearly forever :)
MegCrew and J.CrewJD, thank you both so much for the help. I have a few of the perfect shirts with the silk blend that I like, but don’t think I will be too crazy about the sheerness factor. And yes, I have to be very careful not to rip those shirt…they can be fragile. :(
ReplyDelete@J.CrewJD, yes I did mean which color would be easier to make an outfit with. :) I’ve cancelled the viridian green skirt twice already due to being on back order…but this was before the bright blue was available. I think I will go after the bright blue.
ajc, thanks! Maybe I need to get both colors to test out. I'm usually a black and gray bottom type girl..so both are out of my element. :)
ReplyDeleteI ordered a suit from J. Crew Factory and got the 25% off - I'm hoping its a sweet deal!
ReplyDeleteTXgirl114 - My vote is for the viridian green as well, and I am also more of a blue person than a green person. I find it to be incredibly versatile and have already worn it a ton! I find the blue to go with less, personally. HTH!
ReplyDeleteI love my viridain green pencil skirt, i ordered the bright blue as well buy sent it back because it made me feel like I was a Pan Am stewardess
ReplyDelete...oh, and to piggyback off my Origami dress advice question (see above!), and given all these sales, do JCAs, tend to purchase multiples of the same cut, e.g. four liquid silk skirts? Or do you tend to stick to one, knowing that something equally good but different will come along?
ReplyDeleteDissertante: I almost always stick to just one. Sometimes I regret it though...
ReplyDeleteThese promos with a high minimum for free shipping don't interest me anymore. I used the 25% off + free ship on Monday to get the vintage thermal sweatshirt that I stupidly removed from my cart in a panic the promo before... that's why the free ship with no minimum is so key!
My ps is on vacation at Disney, yet he called in an order for me and got me the 25% plus the teacher discount. Don't know how he managed both, but I'm thankful. I re-ordered the cafe capri in warm jade and had him do a find it for the blythe in fiesta purple. He also had them rush the shipment since he knows I'm leaving or Disney next Friday. I have the best ps!
ReplyDelete@Dissertante -- the Origami dress was introduced last year (Fall 2010). Last year's version was much shorter than this year's version and the fabric was more like a flannel.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't count on it being around next year. For some reason they had it in regular and petite last year, but this year is only regular sizing.
I agree with Rebekah, I have exactly $50 left to spend at JCrew after all the previous promos and this one doesn't help (it could at least be 25% off no minimum and free shipping over $150 so I could use it on crewcuts)
ReplyDeleteOT - 50% off sweaters & outerwear has kicked off at Anthropologie online. Will also be good in-stores, Fri & Sat.
ReplyDeleteruffles - That is good news for me. I have those orange Maddie trousers we saw Marissa in and I haven't worn them yet. I was hoping they'd still be 'in' for 2012. They're brighter, but still...
ReplyDeleteJ.CrewJD - Agree. I got the perfect fit v-neck in henna. Last year I was irritated that it wasn't a true red as it appeared on our monitors. I'm over it now. Great color.
TXgirl14 - I am 4 or 6P. Definitely go for 6P. Personally I take regular 4 on the pencil skirts for the length. They look better on me, coming just at the mid knee and not above. Tip: Find your ideal skirt length here.
Dissertante - I won't speak for others, but I definitely buy multiples even though I try not to. Recent multiples include the liquid silk skirt. The price was too fantastic. I have the perfect-fit henley in 4 colors. I think one of the things that has attracted me to multiples is the great color selection. Also when I find something that fits well, I don't feel guilty owning more than one. I find the henleys easy to care for and that can also be another factor.
The perfect shirt in solid I have not seen, but it is a cotton lawn. It could be on the thinner side. I would imagine it doesn't quite have the form of the stretch perfect shirts.
I have the vintage thermal sweatshirt. I'd say it's true to size. Although I wish I could try a M to see if there is any slack around the middle. I'll be fine w/the S, though. It's thinner than I expected it to be. Because I'm a JCA geek, I did a weight comparison:
- vintage thermal tee in stripe: 7 oz
- vintage thermal sweatshirt: 8.8 oz
As you can see, the "sweatshirt" is not much heavier. I'd say it feels more like a tee and think of it as a sweatshirt cut.
math teacher - Your PS is at Disney? *lol* No wonder you two are buds. He sounds like a dream, btw.
Hi Gigi - I have the vintage thermal sweatshirt in M (I'm usually an S) and would say there's some slack around the middle - I can still fit it over my 41" belly at 38 weeks (although I've definitely got to layer it over a maternity tee or tank so as not to show any belly to the world, ha!).
ReplyDeleteGigi, yep - he called me from the monorail. :) We both love disney, which makes the friendship even better. He's been texting me all week from there, which has been a nice thing because it's been quite a week at school. My guess is that he's the top ps at my b&m.
ReplyDeleteuh oh, i sized down in the thermal sweatshirt due to previous reviews, but now it seems that maybe I shouldn't have! we'll see next week i suppose... any words of comfort? i usually get a M for a loose fit, but in this case I sized down to a S.
ReplyDeletes_l - you will soon see about 1 handed typing, lol. anyway, i thought you said 41 wks! then i read correctly. holy countdown!! thx for the info. i was up for popbacks so i was able to re-order one of my two colors in M. thx for the info. wishing you the best if we don't see you for awhile after baby gets here :)
ReplyDeleterebekah - have no fear. i want to try the thermal sweatshirt in M but own & love the thermal tee in stripe in XS. i am at least 36c and 3 mo postpartum, to give you an idea. if i didnt have the belly, i'd be happy w.a S in the non-stripe. i'm probly not making sense, but just know i think you'll be ok. :)
Thanks Caitlin, simplydreaming, and gigiofca. :)
ReplyDeleteGigiofca, that article is great for finding out the perfect length. It makes so much sense now and thus why pencil skirts just above the my knees look so much better on me. Thank you for sharing.
@ gigiofca: thanks for the link on the pencil skirts. when i tried it out, the 'proper length' didn't see to work (it hit at a relatively broad part of the leg). technically, i should be wearing minis, but then other fashion rules dictate that the shortlegged crowd should stay clear from minis because of its effect of cutting the body in half. so much contradictory science involved!
ReplyDeleteon that note, should the short-legged/short-shinned stay clear of the liquid silk shirt?
The Schoolboy blazer in Blackwatch tartan is on sale now. Details in this post. :)
ReplyDeleteJust made huge J.Crew purchase in store yesterday - didn't get the 25% off... does that mean it was a mistake or did it just not apply in retail stores, because I thought it should have...?
