What are your thoughts on this latest promotion? Are there are pieces you are interested in getting?
The outerwear promo everyone has been waiting for! Luckily I do not need any coats!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing which coat people like best. I saw some coats in person this weekend, and I was a bit disappointed in how lightweight they were.
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this promo for weeks, and the coat I want is not on sale! How ridiculous that they choose certain styles to exclude! Ugh!
ReplyDeleteIMO, these "up to" promos are kinda lame... looks like most of the coats are around 20% off, and they'd still all be expensive enough to qualify for free shipping anyway. I may keep an eye on one or two in the after-season sales, but don't need any right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious. Can anyone tell me which is warmer: the Stadium Cloth trench or the Icon Trench in wool/cashmere? TIA!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Stadium Cloth trench!
ReplyDeleteThe coats this year are just not up to par with the coats of years past. I think they are lighter weight, thinner, just not as nice! I'll continue to troll eBay for my coat needs.
ReplyDeletehow is this a deal?only one color for the majesty coat is on sale. pass.
ReplyDelete@ jruby18: the Stadium Cloth is very warm, warmer than the wool-cashmere.
ReplyDeleteNone of the coats on my wish-list is part of this promo! Grrr...
I love JC coats, but I and my over-stuffed coat closet already have more than enough.
ReplyDeletethanks girls! Obviously, not biting right now, but am keeping my eye out for the Stadium Cloth coat when a good deal hits.
ReplyDeleteJruby18, me too! I was really hoping today would be the day. I tried the coat on in the store and it was super warm.

ReplyDeleteNo coats for me, my closet is groaning even after I sold two on ebay last week and sent another to goodwill. I'm quite skeptical of quality this year and the few I have seen IRL were nothing special. Pass.
ReplyDeleteLame that they are not giving all outerwear a significant discount across the board.
I'm SO pleased with my Double Cloth Metro Coat in Dark Eggplant - it's been a wonderful all-around Fall coat and I think it's going to be perfect for these mild Georgia winters. Plus, I get tons of compliments every time I wear it :)
ReplyDeleteYou know what coat I was surprised to love? The Wintress Puffer. My mom got me one for Christmas a few years ago and, between the mid-Atlantic Snowpocalypse and one winter in West Virginia, I've worn that coat more than any other in my closet. Lightweight, toasty warm, and the belted waist keeps you from looking like the Staypuft Marshmallow Man. It's also machine washable - separate wash on cold, then toss it in the dryer with a tennis ball.
I've been begging for an outerwear promo, but this one is pretty lame, imo, largely because they really restricted which colors they're putting on-sale. I wanted the Lady Day in the green and the Stadium Cloth Elements in the Nordic Blue and neither are marked down. Bummer. Guess I'll be skipping this one. I desperately need a coat, but I really think J Crew's coats are over-priced to start with, and this kind of restrictive promo isn't a strong enough enticement.
ReplyDeleteDeeelighted to see the puffer I wanted on sale, so I snapped that up. But kind of a drag that so much of this promo is limited!
ReplyDeleteI thought I loved the Duffle Coat with Thinsulate, and planned to pick up on promo. It's so retro J Crew...
ReplyDeleteIt's still so expensive, though! Does anyone else love it? Does anyone have any comments about sizing? Thank you!
I'm hoping this sale is just a "warmup" for a big Thanksgiving sale.
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking for outerwear, I would advise against the excursion quilted jacket, at least in black - it is compact and warm, but the down keeps sticking out of the quilted seams! It makes the jacket seem really cheap! I bought it for a recent trip and didn't really wear it and notice the down until I was on the trip, so I am kind of upset. LL Bean or Eddie Bauer offer better jackets at sim price points if you're looking for a quilted jacket!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree-- this promo isn't quite as good as what I had hoped for! I purchased the stadium trench in cherry last week at (gulp) full price b/c I didn't think to during the past two 25% off sales. I was hoping it too would be on sale soon so I could re-purchase and return. Now not only is it not on sale, it's not even available in my size anymore. I hope it's lovely. I've got the sandstone from 2010, and while I love how warm it is, it really washes me out...
ReplyDeleteI bit the bullet and ordered the perennial peacoat because I really like the jalapeno color.
ReplyDeleteAlso, anyone looking for down or puffer coats should check out Eddie Bauer. If you know anyone who is a gold level EB Friends member, the entire store is 40% off on Wednesday. I imagine there will be a more open sale starting Friday. Their down is really good quality and they have some surprisingly nice styles and colors (and available in petite and tall).
I just called my local b&m and the stadium cloth trench is part of the 25% off there! I put it on hold and am picking it up today. I guess some b&m's have different selections for the 25% promo than they do online. So ladies, check your stores, esp. if you're looking for the stadium trench!
ReplyDeleteWanted the Majesty peacoat in black so I am super thrilled!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine! I'm going there now with my fingers crossed =)
ReplyDeleteThis year everyone has some really nice puffer coats. I got one from Mexx last year (if you live in Canada), and they have nice ones this year again too.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was in Tommy Hilfiger and they are offering nice long puffer coats as well, plus they have better sales.
Links to irl pics of coat in this post.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree w/looking at Eddie Bauer for a puffer. Another retailer to consider is LL Bean. I got one for my mom there at 40% off last year. The wool coats may not be as hip or cool or cut the same way JC coats are, but it's worth a look.
This promo comes a bit late for me. I just received my beautiful brand new coat from an EBAY seller that I love. It's a wonderful cherry red, big cherry glossy buttons...cannot wait to wear ($150!)...I will take pics and post this week.
ReplyDelete* I meant Toggle Coat with Thinsulate, but typed Duffle Coat. Sort of the same thing I guess. Does anybody who has seen IRL have any opinion of it?
ReplyDeleteMy PS says its adorable. Hmm....
Does anyone know if the majesty pea coat fit is the same as the perennial pea coat?
ReplyDeleteTIA :)
Gotta love how the nordic blue coat shown in the e-mail is NOT on sale... really J.Crew!?
ReplyDeleteJCREWJD: FUNNY, as I read your comment I thought you had written "Really, J CrewL?" instead of an explanation point. True, though!
ReplyDeleteHas anybody else ordered the Stadium-cloth Boulevard Trench in a Petite? I did during the 25% off promo and find that the fit of the shoulders/sleeves is really strange. The front of the shoulders is really tight and then there's extra fabric behind my shoulders. It's as if the arm hole on the coat was cut in the wrong spot...anybody else experience this?
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if the B&Ms have a better selection? The Metro w/ Thinsulate isn't on sale online, and the Lady Day w/ Thinsulate isn't available in Camel. I really want a warm jacket, in camel, with no lapel.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm back from my B&M and I'm so happy! Got the boulevard trench with 25% off b/c all wool coats are on sale in the store. I also used my rewards so I got over $100 off..not bad! I also browsed the sale section and after holding out for this long I finally gave in and tried on the crewneck thermal in black. It fit like a dream and since it was 24.99 I couldn't resist. My store was chock full of so many beautiful pieces. I didn't try anything else though b/c if I loved anything, I would be sad that I couldn't buy it. Anyway, best bet for a coats that aren't included in promo online is to go into the store.
ReplyDeleteOT: Has anyone seen the Suede Martina wedges in Bright Red in store? TIA!!
ReplyDeleteVery tempting since I need a new overcoat, but I don't know if I should bite...
ReplyDeleteSuzzy - Jcrewl. That's funny. Added it to the vocab list. Thanks J.CrewJD. *lol*
ReplyDeleteerin - I'd exchange it for another one. Perhaps the one you got has a bad sew job.
Stella Marie - Each b&m is so different, imo. It gets chilly here, but I still don't see many of the coats in my local store. And it's a store that gets handbags & shoes. I'm guessing floor space is a factor as well. You should always feel comfortable calling a store to ask if a particular item is in stock. Having the style# is handy because register to confirm the one you're after.
rynetta PhD - San Francisco (415 434 2739) was remodeled and expanded this past Oct. I saw lots of red shoes there. If you're on a search, I'd try them. If you're asking about quality or fit, I haven't tried them.
Stella Marie - "Having the style# is handy because register to confirm the one you're after."
ReplyDeleteshould read ->
Having the style# is handy because they can look it up on the register to confirm the one you're after.
Too many words missing to let that one slide.
CrewGurl - Congrats on getting your coat! Which color did you select?
ReplyDeleteGigi: you're amazing. Thanks SO much!!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know which NYC store is the best to go check out the outerwear? debating if I should go try to merge the 25% off with student/educator 15%....
ReplyDeletegigiofca, I got it in Saddle. I was also debating over black or cherry, but in the end I just really loved the saddle. I love my coat!! Thanks for asking =)
ReplyDeleteCrewGurl -- so glad your b&m pulled through for you! I got my stadium trench today too and I'm in LOVE. :)
ReplyDeleteReviews of 2 coats I received from the STAYWARM promo:
Toggle wool-cashmere w/ thinsulate: cute casual coat but felt really thin to me. It didn't feel like it had the thinsulate lining; usually coats with thinsulate are a little heftier and thicker than what I received. It fit larger than most coats (I usually size up to a 6 to wear with thick sweaters) but even the 4 was loose enough to comfortably fit anything underneath. The pale beige is literally a very light beige color -- I think it'd be cuter if it was more of a camel color. Ended up returning it for the warmer and more fitted stadium boulevard trench.
Plaza coat with thinsulate: fit small. The description says it has a more fitted silhouette this year, so maybe that's it? Sleeves were too short for me, which I remember another JCA complaining about in a different post. Glad it's not just me! Ended up returning this as well.
I have a non-coat question, I'm sure some helpful JCAs will be able to answer.
ReplyDeleteI want to buy a cashmere sweater for a friend who loves color. J.Crew is a strong contender with all their gorgeous shades. How does the cashmere holdup? Is it better to sizeup in the cashmere long-sleeve tee, is the fit shrunken or true to size? Are the colors pretty close to what you see in the catalog or monitor?
Thanks for the help.
koala2, me too! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
ReplyDeletecrewgurl, koala
ReplyDeletegot the stadium trench in saddle last wed (yes love!) and will go in for a price adjustment tomorrow.
when i called my local b&m, i thought they said 20%. were all wool coats across the board 25% off in your local b&m? do they vary across stores?
i know it's a 5% diiference but hoping to get 25%
@ CaptainCrew re: J.Crew Cashmere: I've mentioned it on here before, but I'm a freak for J.Crew's Cashmere, particularly the Long-Sleeve tees. I have 2 L-S Tees from 2005 that look pretty much as good as new despite a little bit of pilling beneath the arms. My cashmere sweaters from 2009-2010 have held up just as well as my older cashmere, with the exception of the featherweight styles which pill a lot more. I think you're safe with 12-gauge knits and below. From my experience, all of their cashmere sweaters run TTS, but if the sweater looks boxy on the model it is probably a matter of preference whether you want a slimmer fit and want to size down. The colors have always shown up at my doorstep almost exactly as they appear online, but, as many JCA's have noted, some of this year's hues are CRAZY bright which doesn't always translate over the internet. I ordered the L-S Tee in Heather Jungle from the last STAYWARM promo, and it's the same beautiful green that appears onscreen.
ReplyDeleteHTH, and what a nice friend you are to choose such a lovely gift :)
@Whitney, thank you for the detailed info, you're so helpful. I am waffling betwee the heather beet and the fiesta purple colors, both look gorgeous. I hope there is a black friday sale so I can pick it up soon.
