A big "thanks!" to JBird (in this post) & Slastena (in this post), who let us know that they both received a special promotion in the mail (with a red card) offering 25% off any item from J.Crew. Also, "thanks!" to JBird who scanned the image above for us to view. :) This card can also be used multiple times! This offer expires 4/30/08.
The mailing reads as follows:
Now more than ever, we remain obsessed with bringing you things hat have lasting value- design, style, and quality. This is our commitment to you.
To show our thanks, we're sending a special gift just for you, one of our most loyal customers. Enjoy 25% off all purchases in any of our stores between now and April 30th. Just bring the attached card with you when you shop (and you can use it as many times before April 30th as you'd like).
As always, we are available at 24-7@jcrew.com.
Best,
Mickey
Millard Drexler
There was a similar offer (refer to here and here) and I loved it! I am thrilled to see it brought back! So chances are, you may receive this promotion in the mail in the next couple of days, so keep "an eye out" for it. :)
Do you only get these cards if you are a JCrew Credit Card holder? Also, do you HAVE to have the card or do you think you can tell your SA that you left it at home and they will honor it? Thanks, I've never seen this before, thats why I ask (and there are a few things I'd like and 25% off sweetens the deal).
ReplyDeleteAnon at 5:14PM: The last time they offered this promotion, non-cardholders (including myself) received the card. So I am thinking that will be true this time around.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you do *need* to physically have the card. There are numbers on the red card that the associate needs to offer the discount. :)
Wow, I hope I get one! :) Now that's something nice to look forward to in the mail.
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised to receive one last time. I am not a card holder and hadn't spent a lot in recent months. I have been since then! So, I am hoping that I will get one this time. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteOhhh baby! I hope that will be in my mailbox soon. The last time they did this, I received one. Will post when it arrives!
ReplyDeleteFinally, J.Crew is offering a worthwhile promotion...let's hope we'll get an online offer to follow!
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting. The only drawback is for petites like Gingersnap and me who need to order some items online. Oh well. I am still very, VERY happy to see this.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to drop Mickey a note requesting a card. I've dropped more coin (much to the dismay of my wife) during the past two years and I've never received a red discount card.
ReplyDeleteThis makes checking the mail a bit more fun:) Fingers crossed for Monday!
ReplyDeleteTwiga
I hope I get one!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting! I hope I get one.
ReplyDeleteI always get mine last! I hope it's on the way. Well, maybe not, since I'm not supposed to be shopping any more:). At least we're getting our 20% off tomorrow during the private shopping event (which of course I'm not supposed to be shopping at).
ReplyDeleteAgree with GingerSnap and gigiofca - it's hard for us petites to buy stuff in the store!
I wonder if any Canadians will get it, since we do all our ordering online... and, I also wonder how much you had to have spent to make that privileged list?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all who got it, happy shopping :)
Connie, I emailed my PS about this red card and if Canadians will see one. When she responds I'll post her answer.
ReplyDeleteWow that is amazing, it's like finding Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket! I wonder how they choose who receives it, and it does create a fun *buzz*
ReplyDeleteI received this card last time and used it several times for significant savings. It's great for those who get it, but for those left out, it's a big disappointment. Last time there was no real rhyme or reason to who received the card. At least, according to what people posted. Some posted they spend over $1K/month and didn't get it. Others said they spend very little and received the card.
ReplyDeletePerhaps we petites could use it in store with the red phone and a sales associate. Hope so!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get one last time and I was SO MAD!!!! I better get one this time or I'm gonna dump JCrew!!!
ReplyDeleteHow can they keep track of how much you spend if you do the majority of your shopping in store (and don't have a JC credit card)? Is this promo used to 'reward' online big spenders? This would not make sense. Or perhaps it has to do with one's relationship with a personal shopper?
ReplyDeleteWow! I wish I could get one of these cards. I cannot even get my catalogs.
ReplyDeleteJ.CrewAdorer, I'm in the same boat. I used to get catalogs in pairs each time for some reason, then both suddenly stopped coming in the mail this year. I've taken it up with a SA and phone customer service, but still haven't received one all year. I have a feeling I'll miss out on this red card, too. :( !
ReplyDeleteI got one (today, yay!), but am not a card-holder. I guess I have spent enough lately?
ReplyDeleteI know it says it doesn't combine with any other offer...but does anyone know if they would combine the 10% off for opening an account? thanks!
I'm a card holder and do spend quite a bit every month but didn't get a card... do you guys think it'd be tacky if I send them an email regarding this?
ReplyDeleteI will absolutely call and ask for a card if I do not receive one. I encourage other JCAs to do so as well!! Can't imagine why they wouldn't want to send more people the card because we will spend more money!
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, there was a general consensus among those who received red cards last time that they had recently placed an online order. Some reported receiving cards even though there were no B&Ms nearby, which is the reason they shop online in the first place! JCrew may be trying to encourage their online customers to shop at their local B&Ms, possibly to clear out excess inventory at the stores. Or maybe it is less calculated than we think, and it is simply because they already have the mailing addresses for online/catalog shoppers. Whatever the case, hopefully everyone will get his/her card soon. :)
ReplyDeleteUgh, in store only! Don't they know that some of us are 3 hours away from the nearest store?!? One would think that J.Crew would notice I have only ever used my J.Crew card online, see where I live, and take a hint!
ReplyDeleteI have worked in retail, and learned a lot about this type of promotion. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure it's ALL about your zip code.
ReplyDeleteJ.Crew Guy in Canada:
ReplyDeleteI look forward to her e-mail! As i spent way more then i should have these last few months at J.Crew. And 25% off most likely wouldn't even cover the shipping to Canada, but it's that extra push i need to order more!
Here's hoping some of us Canadians get the red card!
I don't get their marketing tactics. They are sooo good with some customer service, and some promotions don't make sense to me at all. It actuall dis-courages me to shop from this store. I feel the rewards programs should be more clearly laid out. Card holders get benefits and coupons or not. Not this quansi marketing. My Dad, who has bought a handful of random things throughout last year (misc. gifts) was getting better discount promotions than me, who shops weekly. Talk about frustrating. I am such savvy shopper that if I feel I am not being rewarded, I won't frequent a store or not. The clothes are great, but there are a million other cute stores and clothes to go to if there is no customer loyalty. And, I have not idea how these purchases are tracked. What if you don't give your email address, or pay cash? Then how are they tracking? Maybe a rewards card would work better? Similar to White House Black Market? Just a thought! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are in a semi-recession and I feel the prices and promotions should be shifted accordingly.
Anon: 1:14
ReplyDeleteAMEN to that!
semi recession? They are people living in tents in California, Yeah it must be a semi recession.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see it back...hope I get one again this time around...fingers crossed. ;)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the python clutch in stores? I'd like to use the red card for this bag, if possible.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the python clutch is already sold out online. :(
cinn: Another complaint have is that I have no B&M near me- the closest is 50+ miles away- and the website NEVER works for me. I always get the ugly green screen when I try to click on items. I have tried everything and nothing works.
ReplyDeleteI spend over $1,200 a month at JCrew and did not get the first card...I wonder if I will get this one...none yesterday. I have recently: past 3 months dropped my spending to around $300-500 a month at JCrew. This month approaching I am probably going to buy NOTHING. Style and quality have really been suffering as of late and I am finding really cute items and well made ones at that elsewhere. Sad to see my JCrew go down hill after many years of shopping with them but they are...and I don't buy just b/c it says "JCrew" on the label!
ReplyDeleteI still find plenty to love at J.Crew. I have always, and will continue to shop at other stores. I could never source my entire wardrobe at J.Crew, but there are plenty of nice pieces that work for me.
ReplyDeleteI have personally found few examples of decreasing quality and most of what I've purchased is up to par. Some pieces, like the double-serge skirts and jackets (Maggie, Tuesday), are top quality. Leather belts and handbags as well, top quality. Jeans are good quality, especially for the price. The suiting pieces are also well made with fine fabrics and feminine tailoring. Same goes for the dress shirts.
Shoes have definitely gone downhill but I no longer buy them so problem solved. Same for the cashmere and dream wool sweaters.
One great thing about this and related J.Crew blogs is that we can be warned about quality and avoid those items. To me, once I read about a quality issue, that item no longer exists for purchase. It doesn't upset me though, and that is something I can't understand, why people get so upset when J.Crew fails to meet their expectations in design or quality. Just let it go and buy somewhere else, or here's a thought, save your money for something that you really like.
J.Crew is run by people and they try to do the best for the company, and it is not perfect by a longshot, they will have missteps from time to time. Enjoy the things you like and take a pass on those you don't. It's not a personal insult, no matter how long you have been a faithful customer.
^ Wonderful, thoughtful comments, thank you SO much. Alexis created a unique place for those of us who adore JCrew (or some of it some of the time).
ReplyDeleteAnony 10:29 - Amen to that! I have no problem with posts complaining about J.Crew or pointing out issues with items. In fact, I appreciate that very much. But some people get so offended when J.Crew is not perfect and I just don't understand that.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Crossing my fingers! If I get one, I'm going on an extreme shopping spree....
ReplyDeleteDo they send these out to their canadian customers too?
ReplyDeleteI tell you withthe exchange rate right now that's the only way I can shop at JCrew.
I have acart full of stuff but cannot justify the exchange and duty it would cost me.
I don't believe the card is sent to Canadian shoppers as there are no B&M in Canada. I travel to the U.S. frequently and shop in the stores as well as online. I could use the card during my April trip to Houston but I doubt I will get one.
ReplyDeleteJ- I don't think it's tacky, who wouldn't want 25% off? I just sent them an email- asking how people are chosen to receive cards, and saying I'd *love* to get one. We will see, I am interested in if it is a random selection or what.
ReplyDeletehey, if i dont like this , what will i ever like in my life? nice work keep it up

ReplyDeleteI was excited to see my card in the mail yesterday. Great that it applies to sale items and it came just in time for the things I plan to buy in April. Yahooooooo!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think people are getting offended, it is just that if you are spending money and some are getting rewarded and others aren't, there isn't much motivation to continue to be a loyal shopper. J. Crew's clothes are great, but so are a lot of other stores/brands and right now, I feel like I need to get the most for my money and if I am not being treated as a valued customer, or a coveted customer, then I can go elsewhere - and will. No hard feelings or being offended, but the bottom line is, it is about getting the best deal, especially right now. At least for me it is. :)
ReplyDeleteanon @ 3:04, I agree! If I don't get one this time (again), I will not spend one dime at JCrew until the offer expires on 4/30/09. A reusable 25% discount is a very generous offer, especially for such a long time period. It's almost like some customers are getting an employee discount, while others are not! Sorry if I sound bitter, but I just don't get it (especially if I don't get IT!).
ReplyDeleteWhy do you ladies get so bitter with these deals? If jcrew doesn't like you, then just move on. Closure comes from your side...
ReplyDeleteFor those of you looking for the "rare" J Crew Gray Beaded Zebra Graphic Tee:
ReplyDeleteI spotted one at the JCrew at the Westchester (White Plains, NY) mall today in a size small. $68.
Maybe the card has something to do with the ZIP code, but maybe it also has to do with how much you spend... like those emails each offering free shipping for $100, $150, or $200 depending on how much you "typically" spend (those who spend less get a better deal with the email codes). well my jcrew.com cart is pretty full now and I'm ready to place my order but now I am waiting for some kind of % off code... if it doesn't come, I'll probably lose interest in some if not all of those items...
ReplyDeleteI called the JCrew priority cardmember line to see how people get these cards and she merely said it was for "frequent" JCrew shoppers as a "customer appreciation" promo. (Like a "thank you" card.) She said that as a CS rep they don't know how this is determined (spending XXX of $$$) so she couldn't tell me specifics. She said it wasn't necessarily cardmembers it was just people that shop "frequently" at JCrew. HTH! And I hope i get one!
ReplyDeleteI haven't received this card yet, but am hoping I get one. Last time, I didn't receive one, but my personal shopper mailed one to me, instead. Did anyone else receive one from their personal shopper?
ReplyDeleteThanks JCrew! My household received two of these cards on Saturday, one for me and one for my husband. I'm located in Maryland. Interestingly enough, I haven't shopped under my husband's name since last Aug./Sept.
ReplyDeleteIRL - if you would like to part with one of those cards - PICK ME! :)
ReplyDeleteMarymoo
I received a card at Christmas and am hoping to receive this one as well!! There are a few full price items that I haven't gotten yet because I am waiting for a discount and this discount would definately allow me to purchase them. Otherwise, I just can't. My husband has been out of a job for 6mo so I just can't spend like I used to!
ReplyDeleteI received mine yesterday, and I used it today to order 6 items, worth $250.00, on a phone order, the JCrew Rep is so nice to apply it on my order I saved almost $60.00...
ReplyDeleteGood deal....love the 25% red card
I havent received a card this time, but my card came about a week late last time. If I get it, there are few items I will pick up for our family. I am loving the crewcuts stuff this season so my dd will the beneficiary of this card.
ReplyDeleteHey all - I know the JCA event in Maryland happened today. I spoke with my PS in Danbury, CT today. Would anyone be interested in an event there? Jessie
ReplyDeleteI have an answer for all of the Canadians, sadly we won't be receiving a red card; it's a retail (in store) only promo.
ReplyDeleteAnother sad note, the Sperry boots from J.Crew that I've been waiting over a month for have been wait listed until June. Hopefully my PS can work some magic and find a pair in one of the stores.
jcrew guy in canada...what size are you looking for in the sperry boots?
ReplyDeleteThe TV Show "Running in Heels" on the Style Network just showed a behind the scenes shot of Marie Claire's jewelry shoot with J.Crew's jewelry director. Oh what pretty jewelry!
ReplyDeletejcrewmommy, if you get one and won't use it after your initial shopping trip, I would be so grateful if you would share it with me. I live in Canada and travel to the U.S. often, where I always shop at J.Crew. I'll be traveling to Houston in April and would love to use the card. I would be happy to pay for shipping and extra to make it worth your while.
ReplyDeletePlease email me at dunc209@shaw.ca if you're willing to pass it on.
Thanks Much!
I didn't get one last time either. And -gasp- I just closed my J.Crew credit card. I held that card for a few years and never once did I receive a coupon, email, or special cardholder benefit. I did have one pair of trousers altered, but I am tall and couldn't really use this perk, seemingly the only significant perk of the card. I see that now J.Crew is offering $25 for every $500 spent, but the card doesn't even merit free shipping. Am I missing something? If there is some special incentive/benefit to holding a J.Crew card, I wish someone would tell me what it is. As it is, I'd rather accumulate points on another card...
ReplyDeleteI love J. Crew. I've been ordering from them since the 1980s (I grew up near Lynchburg), but lately I've just felt rather disappointed. But I hope all of you get a discount card! If I get one, I will certainly use it but since I just closed my card, I'm not feeling optimistic. Good luck, everyone!
The $25 reward with every $500 spent has been going on since the card started. That is nothing new.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have one of these cards if someone is willing to part with it :)
ReplyDeletelilac.cupcake@gmail.com
on friday i decided to buy some of the new spring roll out and spend almost $300. on saturday i got my red card.
ReplyDeletedo you think there is anyways they can adjust this in-store? would i be a pain in the a-- to return everything and rebuy it with my red card? I would be saving almost $75.
thoughts? advice? thanks!
Thank you jcrewmommy. I hope you have a great day too.
ReplyDeleteI just got one of these in the mail, dont know why. dont have a JC card, but I have started shopping there in the last year. a lot via the website. i find the sizing to be very consistent. and I shop mostly at the same mall store. could this be why.
ReplyDeleteYahoo, I'm at work right now, and I keep on thinking about the red card since they send me one last year if I'm gonna receive one this year...
ReplyDeleteI call my house and ask my DH if I have any mail from JCREW and he said I got a catalog and a card so I ask him to open the card, and the red card is there I'm so excited....Thank's JCREW......
RANT: I better get one this time. I have spent a lot over the past couple years with J Crew and was really disappointed not to get one last time!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for letting me rant ladies. I hope everyone gets one!!!
Got my 25% card today and I'm NOT a JCrew cardholder. YEAH!!!
ReplyDeleteI am also dying for a card, since I need to buy a bridesmaid dress! If anyone finishes up with theirs, please let me know! :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 10:08am--Don't be jealous that you didn't get a red card
ReplyDeleteHurrah! Got my red card today! Hope everyone gets one - wouldn't that be nice? :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 5:26- the back of the card ays is not valid on phone orders, how did you manage to get the discount? I have a lot of things that are not in stores and would love to get that 25% off if I order them over the phone. Any thoughts on that?
ReplyDeleteWest Coasters--My RED CARD arrived in Monday's mail (today). Clearly "nontransferable" for people wondering if they could, according to the rules, mail it to others. ** I'll bet JCrew would send one to anyone who asks, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much help in determining "the profile" for who got one as I have the credit card, a PS, and shop from the web (final sale!!).
I just called CS and they said if I brought my receipt to a store (I bought a bunch of things last week) that they would give me a price adjustment with the red card. I hope they are right!
ReplyDeleteto J at 4:42PM...
ReplyDeleteMostly of the items that I ordered are available online only, and the CS that I spoke to is very nice, sometimes it depends on the person on the other line...He gave me the discount not even asking the code # at the back of the card..I hope it will work for you, just give it a try...good luck...
YAY!!! Got it today, and hope to check out B&M soon...
ReplyDeleteAthena
I received a red card today. I received one in the fall too, but for a lesser discount. I am a cardholder, rarely shop online, and have not been spending much lately. I truly think the promo is somewhat random.
ReplyDeleteCan you use the student discount with this card?? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't get one last time, but did today.
ReplyDeleteWest coaster
Not a card holder
Don't use PS
Sale shopper
Got mine today-yeah!
ReplyDeleteTwiga
Doesn't look like you can use student discount with the card. Says cannot be combined with any other discount. And I think it would be really annoying for the people at the store if customers who got the card brought their receipts for adjustments. It does say cannot be applied to previous purchases.
ReplyDeleteI received my Red card today in mail.
ReplyDeleteI got my red card today! I did not receive one during the last holiday season. So chances are good that someone who did not get a red card last time will get one soon!
ReplyDeleteOMG-someone is selling one of these on e-bay already for $69-eek!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be more annyoying if we all brought back everything, returned it and re-purchased it with the red card. It is no difference than when people call and get a price adjustment when a new % off code is released and they had just placed a huge online order the night before. And most times CS will do it as a courtesy!
ReplyDeleteI DID get the red card yesterday. I did NOT get one last time.
ReplyDeleteMy profile:
live in NJ (plenty of J.Crews in my area)
do not have a J.Crew card
make small purchases (usually sale) in stores and online semi-frequently (once a month?)
I have no idea why I got it, but am glad I did.
Anonymous at 9:14am, I think both scenarios are annoying: doing a price adjustment with your reciept or bring everything back and re-purchasing. Just a hassle for everybody. People should just be happy they got the card!
ReplyDeleteAlso - cannot believe somebody is selling on eBay! How funny!
Yay! I got one! Time to shop!
ReplyDeleteHi Girls, just wanted to let you know I did go and get a price adjustment today (I was the one who called CS yesterday and asked about it). The SA was more than happy to do it, it has only been 6 days since I bought everything, and she said they don't mind doing them at all. I saved over $50!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI got one of these red card on Monday. But it is useless to me, since I don't have a store nearby and order online. I spend very little in the past months and not a card holder. I think it is just random sent.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:40pm that is great you find certain things annoying. You do have a choice in not participating in those practices and the stores have a choice also. JCrew and many other store do have return and adjustment policies for good reason. Let us know when you purchase a store maybe we will shop there if you have a great return policy.
ReplyDeleteyou guys are so lucky. i didnt get the red card. would anyone like to share theirs with me. thx in advance.
ReplyDeletemy email is kingmtv at yahoo.com
It looks like I didn't get one this time around... If anyone is willing to pass theirs along after a shopping trip or isn't able to use it I would love to get my hands on one. E-mail me at amosandali at gmail dot com. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited, I got my red card today, and have never gotten one before.
ReplyDeleteMy profile:
Western suburbs of Chicago
non-card holder
Do not have PS
Online shopper exclusively sales
It would make sense that J Crew would send one to me to try and get me into a store and looking at full priced items
I accidentally threw out my red card in the garbage thinking it was junk. Do you think J.Crew would send me another one??
ReplyDeleteminah... email jcrew, explaining what happened. the marketing dept has a list of all the people to whom they sent the cards. i'm sure they'll send you a replacement. good luck!
ReplyDeleteSo, I didn't get one. I was so bummed. It's too good a deal not to venture after it. So I called and the rep asked that I email contactus@jcrew.com - they're supposed to reply in 48 hours. They didn't. So I called and followed up, and they said they've received a high volume of calls regarding this offer, and wait a few days. If I don't hear anything back to call the line again. I'm waiting until Friday before I check again! Will let you know any updates.
ReplyDeletegracefully... I emailed J.Crew last night and a rep left me a voicemail saying a replacement card was on the way due early next week. Thanks for your help! :)
ReplyDeletehello if anyone knows if ohioan frequent jcrew shoppers received a card, please tell me :)
ReplyDeleteI got my red card but I noticed on the back it said it was not to be used online. That is a bummer b/c I saw a lot of stuff on final sale that I really wanted today. Of course there is stock that was not on there yesterday when the 30% sale was still in effect.
ReplyDeleteWell,
ReplyDeleteWonderful news to report. I received a personal voicemail from a J.Crew rep saying that I should have received a card, verified my home address, and let me know either way, they are mailing a card my way.
Hoorah. J.Crew Spring Collection here I come.
I did not get one and I am disappointed. I am a J. Crew cardholder and I am a loyal, consistent and GOOD customer. I order on-line and shop in the stores. I don't get it. I AM mad because it seems unfair. I have called and they told me it was a completely random promotion that it has nothing to do with how much you spend. I have also e-mailed them saying that it feels exclusionary...am I not a loyal customer because I did not get one? Well, I am with some others...I will not be buying from them until after April 30th because it makes me mad that I will be paying more than most others. All that said...I am glad for those of you who did get a card:)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge jcrew fan and order online probably once every two months...shop in store regularly. I placed an order literally the same day I read about the red card. I forwarded the order to jcrew asking if there was any way I could get a red card. A few days later I received a very nice call from a customer service rep who said one was sent to me, possibly to the wrong address and another one was in the mail-it arrived today. I am so impressed with Jcrew's customer service and just wanted to spread the good word.
ReplyDeleteI just got a call from J.Crew (my local store) this a.m. saying I would be getting a red card in the mail. I hope I can use this one online as well as in the store.
ReplyDeleteI am a jcrew card holder and a very good customer and I did not receive a card. I emailed CS to ask why and if I could get one and got no response. I was complaining to a coworker about it and she said that she got one but wasn't going to use it and so she gave it to me which was so very nice! Anyway, just went to the store and used it and the SA said I had to sign the back and show an ID. I thought this was weird!!
ReplyDelete
