"Thanks!" to Marietta & Dina who shared with us J.Crew's latest promotion.
J.Crew is offering 20% off your entire order of $175+ with promo code SECRET. This offer expires 3/13/09.
J.Crew has been offering a lot more promotions in the past few months, than it ever has. As of lately, these promotions seem to be lasting just for a few days. I am happy that J.Crew is offering them, but I would like to see either lower minimums or longer spans of time to take advantage of them. :)
And after I just placed that huge order the other day too! Then again, that was for 30% off shorts, and this is only 20% off the regular price....so.....meh. Until they have another new rollout there's not much I've been wanting to buy. I can wait.
ReplyDeleteOT: SPOTTED! Do any of you watch the Biggest Loser? Last night, the host was wearing the Lucile Mohair jacket. She is very pregnant and did not button the bottom button, but she looked so cute.
ReplyDeleteI think lots retailers are going to be offering promos today and tomorrow as they want to get their promo out and have people spend money on their clothes before the Gap/BR promo starts tomorrow! The big 30% off promo (and you can stack free shipping!)Thanks Gap/BR for starting the coupon war :)
ReplyDeleteI was excited until I saw the minimum purchase amount. 20% off $175 basically covers their astronomical shipping costs. I love J.Crew, but they need to step it up and offer some real savings.
ReplyDeleteAnnoyed... this happens every time just after I place a big order.
ReplyDeleteGuess I should have posted this here, now that it is its own topic:
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke of an offer. Let's say I order $175, minus 20% it's $140. Shipping is either $14.50 (if based on amount AFTER % off, or $15.50 if based on price BEFORE % off). So I've saved about $20... big whoops. Yet another example of J.Crew's failure to compete with other retailers' promotions.
I agree with some of the other comments. I love J Crew but they need to step it up with their promos. Now free shipping AND 20% off would have been a great deal!!! They need to either offer better shipping rates or need to lower it to a flat rate fee like some other retailers do. I myself am waiting for a final sale promo. They have just added a lot of items to their final sale...so hopefully they will do a 20% for sale items soon.
ReplyDeleteI was in a JCrew store the other day and they had some scoop neck T shirts that had tiny beads (They look kind of like fresh water pearls) all along the scoop neck. They only had a vibrant green color left (which I guess was crisp celery - I liked it a lot) but they did not have my size (small) does anyone know which T this is? I can't find it online. I think it was priced at about $35
ReplyDeleteTIA
Forgot to comment that I think everyone is right. JCrew doesn't give much incentive to shop. The Gap companies are doing their friends and family 30% off + free shipping (for card holders) starting tomorrow. I'm snagging my kids summer clothes from them!
ReplyDeleteI posted this elsewhere, but the 20% has me thinking... Has anyone seen the Silk Fresco Dress IRL? I asked my local store if they had it, and one of the SA suggested that since the price went from $175 to $69.99 so quickly she thought it might have fit issues. In her opinion, that's usually the case when something is marked down so quickly. I love the print, but fear the fit -- darn final sale!
ReplyDeleteAHHHHHHH....JCrew sometimes I hate you..I just placed a huge order last night with free shipping...now i have to reorder everything and return the first order..stupid JCrew.
ReplyDeletePS. The High Heel Flare Jeans in white are on final sale for $29.99
"Private sale" has never been such a good deal in my opinion. 30% off in stores would be much better (and if they added free shipping for online purchases)
ReplyDeleteI went to Calvin Klein store at the Westfield mall and ALL Spring items were 30-40% off-way to go CK! :)
dani california:
ReplyDeleteI have questioned JC sales reps in the B&M stores about such items before, and they have told me that there are in fact some items that are only sold in stores - so maybe that tee is one of them? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
I actually think I will take advantage of this offer because I had two items in my cart for a total of about $300...and the promo will save me $60, so even with $20 shipping I will save $40. Not TOO shabby, esp. since there is nothing from the Gap/BR promo that I want.
ReplyDeleteI would have ordered something from this promotion if it included free shipping as well. Alas, J.Crew is not getting my money this week.
ReplyDeleteI think that J.Crew is doing a good job with these promotions, but some more would be nice. They need to recognize the current economic situation. I did, however, get that really cute tissue ruffle cardigan for only $19.99 yesterday. So yay!
ReplyDeletedani_california:
ReplyDeleteI think the shirt you want is the slub cotton scoopneck ruffled tee ((#13657). I own this and the beads are there--don't show up in the pic online.
HTH.
To the people who just recently place large orders - call J.Crew CS and explain to them what happened. This constantly happened with me when they used to offer the percent off Final Sale. I'd place an order, and a few days later, there'd be a coupon code...it was always the same game - do I buy now at full/sale price, or wait for a coupon, and potentially miss out on the items I want.
ReplyDeleteI have had a lot of luck calling and nicely explaining the situation and how frustrating it is, and have gotten many price adjustments (in the form of refunds). HTH
I'm pretty sure the Gap/BR/ON 30% promo is in-store only this time around...
ReplyDeleteBtw if anyone wants an invite email me at femme55@hotmail.com and I'll send you one.
Private Sale should absolutely be 20% plus free shipping.
ReplyDeleteThere's no incentive to buy and pay exorbitant shipping costs.
JCrew... are you listening? :)
I too saw the coat on Biggest Loser last night! She looked great in it!! I so wish it had come in a color I could wear, I just love the look of that coat.
ReplyDeleteI just did a mock check-out and the 20% does come off items that are promo-priced, e.g. the shorts.
ReplyDeletesj's mommy,
ReplyDeleteI was flicking last night, and stopped on that channel when I saw the coat, lol! looked cute on her, even with the baby belly threatening to pop through! :)
Cass - The GAP F&F promo is in-store, but some of the emails come with a on-time online code. I recvd mine and gave it away.
ReplyDeleteWill never know, but I'm very curious if this promo will be successful with all of the people banning shopping for Lent and other personal reasons.
Hey Folks... I am not sure if you guys knew how to make external links work... but here you go
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jcrew.com/browse/multi_product_detail.jsp?externalProductCodes=98517
Use http://www.jcrew.com/browse/multi_product_detail.jsp?externalProductCodes=XXXXX and just replace the product code where you see 'XXXXX' in the URL
You're welcome :-) I figured out this problem because it became increasingly annoying to share links.
And here's a tip for you gals and maybe a few guys (since it seems like I am the only guy that uses this site)
put %3 between product codes to list several items on one page.
http://www.jcrew.com/browse/multi_product_detail.jsp?externalProductCodes=93827%3A82461%3A13191%3A72977%3A73431%3A79240
http://www.jcrew.com/browse/multi_product_detail.jsp?externalProductCodes=XXXXX%3XXXXX%3XXXXX etc
Your welcome
and if this has been covered before... my apologies
The only things I want now are full price, so I'm holding out for 30% off and free shipping. That's the only way I'm buying.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thing about the Gap/BR/ON code. I checked the websites (the code is good for online) and anything I might want is sold out in the majority of sizes. So it's a great deal, but not if you can't find anything.
I just placed 4 orders since last Friday totaling at $550.
ReplyDeleteGigi--is it the letter/number combo that appears underneath the barcode? I guess I can try plugging that in online and see if it works...
ReplyDeleteI just placed 4 orders since last Friday totaling at $550. Sure could have used the 20% off. It could have saved me at $100.
ReplyDeleteI like the 20% off so that I can buy higher priced items at a discount price. Damn it's not like I could have waited the items sell out pretty fast even at FP.
OK, nevermind. I got 2 emails from Gap--at the address linked to my BR card, it had an online code, and at another random email it didn't have an online code. Interesting. Plus, if you are a BR cardholder you can use the code EXTRA10 on top of the 30% off to get another 10% off, plus free shipping. Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteJenny,
ReplyDeleteWhat you are describing has happened to me and when I call CS and explain or ask my online PS I am told sorry that is not the policy. So don't count on it esp. in the future as JCrew is becoming more strict.
I take it this is a promo that you can't combine the student discount with?
ReplyDeleteBig friggin deal, who has $175.00 to spend.
ReplyDeleteI agree that with their shipping fees a promotion to be attractive should be at least 30% off (without free shipping). Instead, they offer only 20% and they setup the $175 minimum so that they are sure that we pay at least $14.50 in shipping, which is almost half the value of the promotion. What are they thinking?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, can anyone who has the cotton-cashmere ruffle cardigan (#13504) comment on it? I looks a pretty cute cardi to put on a sleeveless dress or top but I'm not sure about the fit (and size, XS or S). Does it stay in place? If you have IRL pics it would be much appreciated!
I don't think the fresco dress has fit issues. It's a shift dress so the tightest point for me is the chest area. I ordered a 6 and it fitted fine. I returned it though as while it's pretty I have too many dresses. Now that there's another 20% off I may reconsider.
ReplyDelete@Anon 12:07 - Sorry if I implied this was their policy - I know it is not, and I was simply pointing out that I've had good luck with it, even recently, and was suggesting it as an alternative to returning an entire order and rebuying. It seems to depend on which CS rep you get.
ReplyDeleteThere's not a doubt in my mind that some of the shopping ban ladies will be buying stuff at the Gap/BR sale. I hope they are open about it. It's a great sale, and I doubt anyone will judge too harshly.
ReplyDeletegap sale goes through sunday, so a lot of lent observers will have that day to go for it.
ReplyDeleteAnony@12:08
ReplyDeleteI tried 3 CS reps (just out of curiosity) and NO you cannot combine this with any other discount--educator's/student or free shipping. I even had a free shipping email from a messed up order and they all refused to honor it with the 20%. BAD customer service JCrew...
Sounds like I am the only one using this promo... But I just snagged a few hard to find items and am thrilled! Got the Victoria Ruffle in Hot Pink! (And I am a blonde:) I have the Victoria in Cypress and get a million compliments. I also picked up the Cate slingbacks and an Ecole for $31!! Although the $15.50 in shipping is annoying, I could not resist snagging some of these items I have wanted for a long time. FYI- the Gap promo is also good at Baby Gap and Gap kids 5% of your purchase goes to charity- the one sent to me is for the Leukemia Society (a cause very close to my heart)
ReplyDeleteTwiga
Has anyone seen/tried on the Cotton poplin tie-front dress?
ReplyDeleteOK. I realize people complain and say us JCrew customers are never happy but this is not a deal if you have to pay shipping. It is basically the same as free shipping. Now if it was 20% off any amount that would be better OR the higher minimum as stated with free shipping. JCrew offers are truly gimmicks all the way.
ReplyDeleteSee ya all at GAP/BR! It is fun to shop and really save $$$ and not play games like JCRew!
We customers not us--oops!
ReplyDeleteCan free shipping codes be used w/ a student/ educator discount? I think it would be better to use that than this 20% code. Does anyone know? Thanks!
ReplyDelete^^jbird,
ReplyDeleteI hear they've been trying to crack down on that and not allow people to use their student/teacher discounts if there is a promo. It's a shame.
What I don't understand about that policy is that JC says that they offer the discount to show appreciation and becuase they know that student/teacher's don't have much or aren't paid much. So if that's true, then should the discount apply no matter what? If this discount is supposed to distinguish me from the Jane next door, then why is it that when Jane and I get a free shipping discount I still can't use my percentage off. It's as if they're saying "Yeah, we appreciate you, but only to a point."
Note to J Crew: If you give an educator discount, then as long as I'm an educator, I should be able to use it No.Matter.What. Reneging is not nice.
It's better than free shipping. If you order 175.00 worth of goods, you will basically save shipping and tax. if you order more than 175.00, you can really save.
ReplyDeleteYay, just cleared out the bulk of my shopping bag, 3 sale items and 2 full price items.
ReplyDeleteI just had the "secret" applied to an Icon trench for which I was "waitlisted"(previous order). I was told that this was a "one time courtesy"- CS rep was in a good mood :)!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope that Mickey D. will read or hear about these comments from his loyal JCrew customers and make some positive changes to benefit all of us.
ReplyDeleteFashionably Inclined:
ReplyDeleteThanks, that is helpful and I had no idea about that little trick before :)
At $175, JCrew should offer free shipping. All major retailers offer free shipping at $150+, or above. So, why cant they just get onboard with this.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to get a handbag but even with the 20%, it is hardly a deal since shipping would be $18 and tax would be another $22. So, the 20% would basically cover the tax and shipping.
jbird-
ReplyDeleteJ. Crew has started cracking down on combining the student/ educator discount with free shipping discount.
That said, a few months back I ordered the lady day coat and used a free shipping promo online. Later I called and asked a rep if I could have my student discount applied to the order. I told them I understand that it is not usually their policy to combine multiple discounts but that I would really appreciate it if they could do it for me. The rep gladly applied the student discount to my order. I think I saved almost $42 between free shipping and student discount. If you don’t make a habit of calling CS and asking for your student/ educator discount to be combined with other promos they will probably be willing to do it for you.
Also, I find that my PS is able to apply my student discount with free shipping or additional % off promos when I email her with an order. I can’t always do this, esp when the site is updated with sale items early in the morning b/c my PS won’t get the email in time.
Jenny, THANK YOU, thank you for the tip about calling CS to inquire about sale application to previous orders. I placed an order yesterday with free shipping, called CS today, and the rep honored the 20%. They did end up charging me shipping, but I still ended up much better off--and I'm very happy with the service.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Anon 1:26 - Yes, I have seen, tried on, and own the tie-front cotton poplin dress! I am doing a review of it on my blog this week if you want to check it out! :)
ReplyDelete@emily - how do you get your PS to apply the student/educator discount with free shipping? I e-mailed mine last week and she said it can't be done - is your PS doing this as a courtesy? Just curious :)
ReplyDelete@Anon 2:11 - You are very welcome, I am so glad this worked out for you! :)
Ahhhhh,
ReplyDeleteOf course! I just placed a large order yesterday thinking that the TULIP discount was a good offer. Silly me, you'd think I'd learn by now :}
Well, perhaps I'll go & buy the other "I'd like, but let's wait & see" items I've been holding out for.
I hope everyone finds there must haves in stock & on sale.
Happy shopping,
Heather:D
To those wondering about student dicounts - I called CS today after placing an order and asked for my student discount to be applied alongside the SECRET code, and he said no problem. But I'll wait to see if 15% is actually credited back to my account before I say that it was a success...
ReplyDeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteOoops. I meant; I hope everyone finds their must haves. Good thing I don't teach English or keyboarding :}
Good luck JCAs!
H:D
FYI - the GAP/BR promo is also good at Old Navy and PiperLime!! I am a LUXE cardmember and I hand't received my "invite" so I called them - they gave me a code and told me it applies to ALL FOUR! woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteJenny-
ReplyDeleteI know that if you order something that is full price over the red phone they will waive shipping. I think that since most of the orders I place through my PS are full price my PS has CS apply free shipping (like you would get with red phone orders) and then asks CS to apply my student discount. She has offered to have my student discount applied to my orders. I have never asked her to do it for me.
If for some reason the item I order is on sale she will usually try to get me free shipping or an additional % off if there is a promo at the time. It doesn't always work out this way. I think she does this as a courtesy.
If I pay full price for an item then I want free shipping. If they didn't give me free shipping on a full price order I wouldn't order it.
If I get something on sale then I don't care if I get free shipping. It's a nice perk but I am already getting the item on a discount so it is okay not to get free shipping.
toast,
ReplyDeletegood for you! i'd only order knowing that the student discount would be applied. however i have a feeling that i'd get a rep that would say "oh no you can't have it because this is a global promo."
:)
Does anybody know if Gap will honor the 30% discount for a purchase made Monday? I purchased my daughters' vacation wardrobe ... the price difference is significant enough for me to place a duplicate order and return the first if necessary. Seems silly enough they should simply apply the dicount if I call and ask.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great deal, thank you Marietta, and Alexis for posting.
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this!
Elle - The Gap 30% promo cannot be applied to previous purchases, it says so on the bottom of the coupon.
ReplyDeleteAlso, someone mentioned that the promotion is good for piperlime - it says on the coupon that it is NOT valid at piperlime.com
Anon @ 3:57 - You are so welcome! Happy shopping!
ReplyDeleteSo is the Gap promo good online? or just in store? My coupon says in store only, but these posts are making me think otherwise. So confused!
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing that out Marietta! I looked and overlooked it.
ReplyDeleteA big return I will be making ...
Amy - it depends on which coupon you got. All coupons are good at the stores, but some coupons came with a one-time use online code...
ReplyDeleteI got three GAP coupons. Two are for in-store. One names the charity, the other lets you choose the charity. The third is online only, one-time use.
ReplyDeleteI always seem to get the multiple emails from GAP and BR.
any discounts at B&M? Sometimes online discount coincides with store discounts? anyone know?
ReplyDeleteKnow this is a long shot, but if anyone got the BR/GAP online code and won't be using it, and would be willing to give it away, please let me know! (trying to order some things that are sold out in my size at the local store)
ReplyDeleteI would be very grateful!
chuchu223@gmail.com
OT: Was curious which non-profits you all chose for the Give/Get program and why. I chose the WWF, because I thought it was going to be the most overlooked charity.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 4:29 - I chose the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, because my cousin passed away from leukemia when he was just 15. This charity is very near and dear to me.
ReplyDeleteCanadian Cancer Society. My first husband died of cancer.
ReplyDeleteI am donating to Meals On Wheels. When I was 10 I stayed over nights with an elderly neighbor lady so she would not be alone as she was confined to a wheelchair with a broken hip and nearly blind.
ReplyDeleteWhen there was no school I would hang out with her most of the day watching TV and I remember the joy she got from the MOW delivery. It wasn't long before she died. Although she did have me there to visit with I remember thinking how difficult it would be for those seniors who are always alone and how much the MOW would mean to them. Food, and a little visit from a caring person.
I always donate to them at Christmas and if I am ever able to stop working I would volunteer in a heartbeat.
Any tryt he Bistro Pants yet? The brittish khaki and navy are calling my name, but i'm not 100% sure yet.
ReplyDeleteThey sound like they'd be perfect, cotton with a bit of strech.. but how are they IRL?
Thanks!
toast,
ReplyDeleteI tried this just now and 3 CS reps all said no. I was polite and asked kindly but they all said that is against policy.
No combining codes. You can only use one.
Does anyone know when J. Crew typically brings out their linen pants for the summer? NOt a linen blend, but the 100% linen...sometimes they are Baird McNutt. Last year I think they were called the Diego pant. My old pair needs to be replaced ASAP!
ReplyDeleteI like Victoria Secret's linen pants much better than the pair I got from JCrew. You might try them. Often times they have specials on pants with free shipping and free returns or you can find codes at retailmenot
ReplyDeletePeople interested in the crocodile jacket: size 0 and 14 are sold out. There are only 4 left in a size 12. FYI
ReplyDeleteNot a bad deal with this one getting 20% off if there is something else you want as well to met the miniumum...
* Lower minimums: Yes. Make it $100 and I'm sold. $175? Not so much.
ReplyDelete* Make able to combo with other promotions: I'd like to take advantage of the private sale discount AND free-shipping, but it says it can't be combo'd with other promotions. Shipping isn't that far off from 20% of the purchase price generally (which is why they need to lower shipping rates), so...
But, thanks J.Crew for trying.
who can order? I keep getting that green page that says "we can not process your request at this time, please try again later"....
ReplyDeletewhat gives!
you can't order when you FINALLY decide you WILL order....they can keep their stuff!
Anon @ 10:05 got it exactly right.
ReplyDeletePRIVATE SALE!!!! PRIVATE SALE!!!! Uh, nevermind, no free shipping and I have to spend a minimum of $175...no thanks. I will continue to wait for a better deal, looks like everyone else is doing the same. If J.Crew goes under (which would sadden me greatly), they have no one to blame but themselves. I can't believe they aren't listening.
ReplyDeleteI am going to order BUT ONLY b/c I have a gift card and my rewards card to use by 3/15...otherwise, this private sale sucks rocks...It is really not a great deal at all!
ReplyDeleteYes, I would hate for JCrew to go under but they need to learn what a true sale means and not sugar coat and cover it up with super high minimums and no free shipping--at least for card holders...come on!
I posted earlier about the Gap code being good on all four brands. I did't ask, the CS rep just told me - she said don't forget the promo is for all four brands - this rarely happens. So... I guess we'll see starting tomorrow. Also, I am a Luxe card holder, but when I called to get the code, they didn't ask me for my card number, they just put me on hold and gave me a code. Its worth a try for those looking for the online code.
ReplyDeleteI would agree that the promo is not great--however, jcrew did reduce many of the prices on items, so you can get deals. Depending on what you want (and how much of it you want, this could be good offer.
ReplyDeleteI took the bait...but ONLY because the items I've had on my wishlist for a few wks now were already on sale. The extra 20% off only sweetened the deal :) I ordered:
ReplyDelete*Silk fresco dress
*Tie front cotton poplin dress-- marked down to $59.99!-- in black (if I love it, then I'll get the other colors on the next promo)
*Slub silk-habotai gladiola dress
*Cotton slub-silk lattice dress
Keeping my fingers crossed that everything fits perfectly. Might have to start my own blog dedicated to reviewing J. Crew dresses as I am such a fan!
JTS: can't wait to see your review of the cotton poplin tie-front dress! I take it you kept it, so I'm sure it looks beautiful on you.
Well... this offer is not good enough for me to jump on. I bought $110 from American Eagle- most on sale, with 20% off and free shipping.
ReplyDeletePlus there is an AE store near me for easy returns :)
To add to my previous post:
ReplyDeleteAnother reason i didn't order from J Crew is b/c ever since the post-Obama update, I cannot view the website unless I start-up in safe mode. Otherwise, I get the ugly green screen! Nothing has work except the safe mode start-up. What a hassle!
Has anyone seen the Molten Metallic Tank IRL? I dont' think I've seen it in stores and was wondering if it's in stock now. I kind of like the khaki/gold-but is it too shimmery?
ReplyDeletethanks!
OK, honestly now. How many people are thinking they will stalk the website for the next FS update to see if they can load up $175 worth of great deals and use this promo? I'm guessing quite a few.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 7:02:
ReplyDeleteI think you're right.
I feel better about a FS promo that saves me $15 on my order than a 20% discount on my entire order when I have to pay shipping. This is because: (1) I feel robbed every time I have to pay shipping (JC's shipping rate is way out of line with other retailers) and (2) I obviously don't spend 100's of dollars (I get if you were going to spend $500 20% would be amazing; but when you're doing a $100 here and there, it's not that great.)
Wish that a 20% off promo was exciting to me right now, but it's not. The spring line makes me lawn. I like a couple pairs of shoes, but there's no way I'm paying anything more than $30 for J Crew shoes until they get the quality back up. I've found plenty of cute shoes elsewhere that will last ten years at lower price... (Seriously, you know there's something wrong when J Crew charges $198 for a pair of leather sandals that are plastic on the interior, with plastic pieces glued onto the straps... when you can get Frye boots for about $50 more.) J Crew, I heart you and wish you'd give me some of that good loving again...
ReplyDeleteSorry, I meant that it made me yawn. (Yawn! Sleepy afternoon!)
ReplyDeleteLOL Anon 7:02. I was thinking of doing exactly that.
ReplyDeleteHi, here's a cool article I read from USA today...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2009-03-08-teens-modest-retail-clothes_N.htm
toast,
ReplyDeleteif you are looking for dressier/work pants, the bistros fit great.
only negative was that they are long-- too long form me (im 5'7) with 2.5" heels. not sure if im keeping. they fit really well and TTS though (i have a fairly straight body)
Ok JCrew - you got me...
ReplyDeleteSo I went & called to request a courtesy adj on yesterday's order. The lovely SA was very helpful & agreed to apply the 20%. In fact she was so helpful that I went & bought more stuff.
On the plus side, she was kind enough to apply my edu discount as well. In the end & bought:
Cashmere v-neck in aqua
Cashmere shell in poppy
v-neck tees
Blouse in blush
Blouse in blue stripes
annnnd a textured hemp dress in navy
It worked out to be less than $250, so I'm (almost) on budget. So long as I don't buy anything else this month. Which is just as likely to generate some amazing offers as washing the car brings rain. Oh well, I still appreciate the help the lovely folks at the call centre provided (even if they are enabling my addiction). One of the reasons I come back despite some hard times.
Hope y'all have equally pleasant exp. when placing your orders. I know it can be a bit of retail roulette sometimes.
Good Luck!
Heather:D
Heather:D,
ReplyDeleteYou got the 20% applied retroactively over-the-phone and in combination with your educator discount? That violates 3 of JC's stated rules. Good for you, though. It's funny the amount of personal discretion the CS reps get - and how hit and miss a shopping experience (and bill) can be depending on which you get.
OT: Does anyone have the Tissue Ruffle Cardigan? It's only $19.99 right now. Anyone have any fit reviews? I'm wondering why it's so cheap? TIA!
ReplyDeleteI've always had exceptional customer service when I've contacted J.Crew or dealt with SAs in-store. My husband says it is my attitude that makes the difference because I have talked my way out of speeding tickets as well, which he was shocked to witness. Even if I'm thoroughly pissed I will start with a pleasant and courteous attitude. If I'm met with frostiness I will try extra hard to be nice without patronizing.
ReplyDeleteI realize that CS and SAs are people too and they may be having a difficult day or maybe not feeling well, they do have lives and you never know what they have to deal with sometimes. A little courtesy with appropriate assertiveness can go a long way.
^ I get what you're saying, but cripes, they're in CUSTOMER SERVICE. They need to check the attitude when they go to work. The onus isn't on me to overcome a sales person's sourness.
ReplyDeleteIt is if you want them to bend rules for you.
ReplyDeleteI am obsessed with the perfect fit mandarin henley. I want it in every color. Will they ever get cheaper?
ReplyDelete^ Yes, it's true that is their job but it can be a very difficult job, especially when you may have several unhappy customers in a row and maybe have other issues going on in your life. They are people, not machines. A little kindness goes a long way when people are stressed.
ReplyDeleteno one is saying people shouldn't be kind to CS people. And they're not rocket scientists, or airline pilots, or hold other jobs with enormous responsibilities. It comes down to the fact that they're in customer service, and need to behave with a modicum of professionalism.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the palermo patent sandals are TTS and/or OK for widish feet? Im a widish 9- trying to decide if i should order up to a 10 thx!
ReplyDeleteAnd if you want something from them, or anyone for that matter, your attitude makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:44 I bristled at your pontificating comment. If I were your CS I would simply say no to everything you asked for.
Queen Elizabeth once said that class is the ability to make anyone feel at ease, and give them attention like they are the only person in the world. Try it sometime.
ReplyDeletepicture the CS on the phone saying she will check with the manager, putting 8:44 on hold and taking a bathroom break, coming back and saying, the manager said no. LOL
ReplyDeletelet's us know when you're done agreeing with yourself, snotty anon.
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't your comment apply to CS? You excuse them from having to show the class to simply be polite, which was all I said I think is reasonable to expect. Try not to make a mountain out of a molehill, eh?
since when is expecting cs to be polite elitism?
ReplyDelete8:44/9:03 etc.. just doesn't get it. Oh well, what goes around comes around. It doesn't surprise me that you have unsatisfying experiences in your life.
ReplyDeletejump to conclusions much, eh?
ReplyDeleteOnly allowing one coupon at a time is really, honestly absurd, IMHO. The 20 or 30% off without Free shipping isn't that great of a deal. They should make the extra % off automatic like it was before the upgrade.
ReplyDeleteI took advantage of the TULIP code to order a couple items on my wishlist that are only available online. I want to see them IRL, as well as try them on for size before they go to Final Sale, when I won't have the option to return.
Don't think I'll be using this.
ReplyDeleteTo Ashley: I bought the Tissue Ruffle Cardigan the day it came out. Now I feel silly because the price has fallen so quickly, but I don't regret buying it at all!! It has become my favorite go-to cardigan. I wish it was a little longer in back, but it looks so cute over a cami, and the neutral tones work great over bright colors. I think it runs TTS for the JCrew flowy tops. I wear a medium in the fitted clothes, and a small (occasionally XS) in anything looser. I took a small in this cardigan.
ReplyDeleteKendra- Regarding Palermo sandals- yes order up they run small! I found out the hard way:(
ReplyDeleteTwiga
thanks anon 1020,
ReplyDeletei'm gonna pull the trigger on a couple of them! :)
Anon @ 658-
ReplyDeleteThe molten metallic tank is quite pretty IRL- it isn't all that shiny. However, it is huge! Order at least 2 sizes down- it's seriously ginormous! HTH
So I am glad I got this email from J. Crew. I have been shopping for the perfect navy suit. J. Crew's had been my staple example but unaffordable because the price was still steep. At regular price it was $515. Miraculously the suit was marked down to $365.With the 20% discount it was $292. For me I saved $223. I had used my student discount and the sale representative was able to refund me my money because I bought the suit prior to the sale. I know for most people the sale isn't impressive but it was a steal for me.
ReplyDeleteAshley I was just at the store and bought two of the Tissue Ruffle Cardigans they are so nice. I think you'll really like it...
ReplyDeleteBoy I am kinda mad. I placed two orders for free shipping. One was $198 and the other was $98 they threw in free shipping on the one less than 100 due to a prior mix up.
ReplyDeleteI've actually been emailing CS about the fact that they have an educator/student discount, yet do not have a military discount. I have issues with that. I'm not begrudging the others their discount, but why is their service more valuable than that of the military? And students? I understand college kids are usually low on cash, but I would just like to know the reasoning for a student discount and no military discount.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let everyone know, that I just placed an online order using a BR F&F coupon code. I only received the printable coupon, but found a site that has a number of online codes, and one of them worked. They have some great deals- especially on jackets! Here's the site where I found the code: http://www.couponchief.com/gap
ReplyDeleteAnon@12:02: I think J Crew has very selfish motivations for their student and educator discount. If students or teachers wear JC in the classroom, they are reaching a lot of potential customers who may see something cute and want to go buy it for themselves. JC is not rewarding teachers for their service educating the future, or being nice to students who can't afford much, they are simply using the discount as a means to advertise. In that case, though military personnel should receive a discount as a token of appreciation for their service, the fact that military wear uniforms so often and may have a more limited audience, goes against JC's discount-as-advertising strategy.
ReplyDeleteashley,
ReplyDeleteThe cardigan has no shape and just hangs in an unflattering way. That is why it went on sale...might work over a swimsuit as a coverup???
I would pass on it and save your money for something else really nice IMO.
Ginny
Heather D,
ReplyDeleteThat is totally insane that you were able to worm all of those discounts out of JCrew and all against policy. You are super lucky. I wouldn't count on that happening anyone else.
Maybe Heather knows somebody at JCrew.
I spend thousands of dollars a month and am very polite but no way could I even get free shipping and my educator's discount this week and I placed three orders.
Anon@6:22 Just skim over those posts. I did and I don't even know what they were talking about. Just look for the good JCrew information and ignore ignore ignore. I have much better things to do with my time than read unkind posts and respond. Have a good day:)
ReplyDeleteLisa
Does anyone know if the stores are having additional % off final sale? TIA!
ReplyDeleteI read all the time that the educator's discount is in part because teachers earn such a low salary. Then I read anon @6:22 saying they spend thousands of dollars a month and uses an educators discount. Doesn't quite match up.
ReplyDeleteIf the intent of the educators discount is free advertising, why don't they offer it to news/weather anchors. They already do have it on a lot of TV shows. New Adventures of Old Christine last night there was the Jackie cardi in kelley green, Jacinda jacket, a few other pieces I cannot name, but recognize.
The student/educator discount has everything to do with their bottom line- offering them increases sales from this crowd while at the same time fostering brand loyalty. It can also drive foot traffic to b&ms located in areas close to universities. Perhaps a terrible example, but Ford has done this for years with their graduate discounts. Dell, HP, and Apple offer them as well.
ReplyDeleteI got lucky today, I ordered a total of almost $200, got the 20% SECRET discount and I got free shipping (have a problem with my last order so JC rep gave me a free shipping on my next order)which I used today, I got a driving shoes, a very nice sandals and a white mini for $150 I saved big time.....made my day....
ReplyDeleteHi again,
ReplyDeleteWow.... I didn't expect to generate such controversy!
I meant to share a good customer service exp & encourage people to call to see if they could get an adj. if applicable. I don't know anyone who works at JCrew other than my pleasant B&M SAs. I just call & ask for help. In my exp. the person on the other line is (usually) very pleasant & accommodating. I presumed that was part of the Jcrew exp. I guess I've been lucky.
As to my edu discount, I do appreciate that JCrew offers such a courtesy. Whenever I recv a compliment from a student or colleague I mention that JCrew offers the discounts - so I guess that's advertising on their behalf.
I feel I should mention that I have provided suggestions to several students regarding professional attire upon their request. Many of my students are entering the work force for the first time & are trying to develop their own approach. I've found JCrew a great resource that I like to share. In fact, I've been known to loan a jacket or two to students for interviews & such.
It was in that spirit of sharing that I wrote my comment.
To everyone or anyone I upset I apologise. I intended no offense.
I have had positive exp in the past & thought it might be helpful to mention it to my fellow JCAs.
I hope all of your wishlist is in stock & on sale,
Heather:D
Another issue about them not having a military discount is the fact that they have been pimping the hell out of the Obama family. Here you have the head of the United States military and J. Crew is making a boatload off of them wearing their clothes. You would think they would wise up and turn this towards their advantage to get some massive good PR by putting out a military discount.
ReplyDeleteHey - So way OT. I was at the georgetown store last night and they have ton of painted tissue tees on sale for $19.99 and I saw one beaded zebra tee in gray. Its usually good to go to stores that don't have parking lots in the winter...they don't get a lot of business :-)
ReplyDeleteAnony@8:29
ReplyDeleteI buy ALL my family's clothes from JCrew...childrens, hubby's work and casual and my work and casual. Teachers (at my school) are required to dress up and I mean look very nice. No jeans (EVER) or rumpled shirts/blouses. I don't make much but am expected to look very nice as required by my principal. Yes, my hubby does well for himself but I just barely make enough to cover childcare. I love my job and need it for the insurance but I also LOVE my kids at school. I work in a high poverty school. Hope you feel better...I do one stop shopping online and in stores...works well for me with limited time and I have a very hard to fit body as does my daughter. I can spend hours wandering a dept. store and come up empty handed with nothing that remotely fits. I gave that up about a year ago and stick with JCrew as it works for me.
