A big "thanks!" to many of you who, including Silver_Lining (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $195+ with promo code MUSTHAVE. It is unclear when this offer will expire.
I couldn't agree more. All other retailers are adding more promotions (especially free shipping) and % off, and J.Crew is INCREASING the amount you need to spend to get free shipping?
OT - does anyone know the item number for the Coralie suede flats? I would like to do a We'll Find It For You , but need the item number to do so. Thanks!
geeeez! I am with everyone. A nearly $200 minimum to get free shipping makes sense at high-end retailers where ONE item could be over $200. But j.crew? Not a high-end retailer, although they seem to be shooting for it! This is a slap in the face during these times!
I concur with the general sentiment here, free shipping for $195 doesn't feel like a "promotion" but rather a basic courtesy! Which is why I prefer the 20% sort of promotions which basically work out to be free shipping without the constraint of a minimum
Took the advice of many a JCA reader and hit BR on the weekend. Great deals, some beautiful stuff & decent prices on the new stuff. J.crew... you're losing me to the competition with weak promos and crazy shipping costs
Who comes up with these amounts? It's like they pull them out of a hat. Nordstrom has free shipping if there are shoes in your order with code SHOES. Even sale shoes count!
Boy, does JCREW think we're that naive? I mean just because of the press with the Obamas? Come on, I love me some Barack and Michelle, but the economy isn't any better just yet. Is JCREW that out of touch with reality? Someone at corporate needs to watch the news and the competition!
Joke. Joke. JOKE. Ann Taylor and BR are running much better promotions and their stuff is in a variety of colors this spring, not just pewter, neutral, blush and that puke greeny color (parsley or key lime or chartuese?)
I agree with my fellow JCAs, the shipping situation is very discouraging. By the time I've finished calculating the discounts & deciding if I should go ahead & buy or wait... My ride alongs disappear from the basket, the amount drops below the code minimum & I have to start all over again.
Just last week, I had hoped to buy a skirt & figured that my edu discount would put me in a cheaper shipping bracket-- sadly mistaken on that one. Apparently, they calculate out the shipping before applying the discount. Bleh.
Also no very impressed with the 30% off tops offer. It's "up to " 30% off & only on "select" shirts & camis. The selection is rather limited, the pricing isn't that great & it's online only. I'll admit, my 1st reaction was: "Great & I just bought a blouse at the B&M yesterday". However, since it isn't on sale & I would have had to pay shipping, I'm feeling a little better. Sad, no?
Hope y'all find a blouse you love on sale & w. free ship,
If I were a "big wig" at JCrew, I'd probably offer this same deal right now too, even though it sucks. I imagine that in this economy, they are trying to get as much as they can from the big spenders before they seriously discount Spring1 and bring Spring2 in.
That said, I am holding off on my purchase. I've had the same items in my shopping bag for over a week now waiting for a 20% off deal.
Last weekend while shopping at my local B&M I asked the SA if she would match the online sale price of a tee I was interested in. She said no, that the company uses the shipping and handling to make up for the discounted prices on the web. 'Course we know that, it is obvious, just surprised to hear an honest answer from the sympathetic SA. JK
J Crew's appeal is really beginning to fade for me these days, with their blah Spring rollout, shipping costs, poor quality, and lame promos such as this. I agree there are better offers from other retailers right now.
Not all shirts are on sale only certain ones, my guess is the slow moving ones are reduced.
My goodness what a deal! LOL Free shipping is always a good thing but I like it more with a % off the merchandise. Oh well for someone that is ordering $195 worth of JC I'm sure they will enjoy it.
I was surprised to see the minimum increase to $195. Just when we were *sort of* getting used to the $175 minimum. I wonder if they are trying to find out how far people will go.
There is nothing I want online right now so I won't be taking advantage of this, ahem, promo.
I encourage everyone to take advantage of the survey that pops up when you checkout online. I fill out a survey every single time, and I complain about shipping costs EVERY SINGLE TIME (in the comments section). Everytime I fill it out, I get a response from a customer service rep which basically says "It costs a lot for us to ship." At least somewhere out there a person has to send an email, and maybe the amount of complaints will be tracked. I also complained about the lack of reliability of the website and got a response as well. The responses are not helpful, but maybe all this complaining will add up somewhere.
fiyah, Thanks for the info. Word of this the price match policy has yet to reached down into the Heart of Texas (Austin, Barton Creek),just couldn't stomach the higher price and walked out. -JK
Nothing for me this week, I ordered last time with the $150 min. for free shipping and have quite a good haul coming this week; two polos, a sweater, pants and a hoodie. I better stay on the wagon until there are some more deals on things I don't need with a lower min. for free shipping.
When will J.Crew learn that to get us JCA's excited about a promotion, it actually has to be a "promotion!" i.e. free shipping (with an order under the 1 Million dollar range) AND a % off! Jeeze, J.Crew, $195 is NO DEAL :(
Why don't you all try to teach J. Crew a lesson and stop spending your money there? Their customers are the ones that allow J. Crew to pull things like this. You all let them get away with it every time...spend your money elsewhere at retailers that deserve your business!
Not an exciting promo. Oh well. I have to share, please indulge me: I got my yellow Maggie jacket today from the 20% off sale and LOVE it. Thanks to everyone for their reviews this past winter- I own a Lexington and thought I didn't need another 'similar' jacket. So I trusted your reviews they were right on- the Maggie is so different (in a good way)!
I may use this promo if it is around when the next online release comes out. I have two gift cards that I would like to use on some nice spring items and I've already got everything I want from the last realease. With J.Crew's pricing, it is not difficult to reach the $195 minimum.
The free shipping code goes from $100, $150, $175, $195, up, up and away! I know that I would buy more items if there were cheaper shipping or better yet free shipping. Anon at 3:50- I get frustrated with J. Crew, but I love the fit of the clothing and the pattern, plus the education discount helps, keeps me coming back :)
I have not received a catalog in FOREVER! The last one I got I had to pick up at the store itself- which is over 50 miles from me. Any have any extras they may be willing to part with?
I only get the ugly green pages with the website, so phone/catalog ordering is the only way to go.
Dear J.Crew Aficionadas & Aficionados: Please feel free (and encouraged) to share your thoughts and opinions. :) However, please note that this is still a personal blog. So comments that are considered inappropriate (e.g. obscene, racist, homophobic, personal attacks, rude, and just plain mean) will be removed.
$195.00 to get free shipping???? You've got to be kidding. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteNo % off AND free shipping yet?
I've joined the shopping ban. I still have plenty of things I haven't worn for spring yet.
Luv ya, J Crew, but you don't love your followers! And WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I couldn't agree more. All other retailers are adding more promotions (especially free shipping) and % off, and J.Crew is INCREASING the amount you need to spend to get free shipping?
ReplyDeleteThanks, but no thanks.
I am LOL. Seriously. What a joke of a promo. Let me run right out and use it!
ReplyDeleteOn the flip side, Thanks for posting this, Alexis. Big spenders or wedding parties might use this.
In these times I am trying to live my life in moderation....this coupon with a $195 minimum well, no thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis promo is a little insane....
ReplyDeleteI noticed this on the website this morning and was thinking it had to be a mistake. This one is just really laughable and absurd at the same time.
ReplyDeleteOMG! $195? J.Crew is really screwed up...

ReplyDeleteWhat about the 30% off on tanks and tops? Do you have to hit 195? I am confused.

ReplyDeleteAnon at 9:18 made me think... Isn't it ridiculous that most of the time shipping is 20% of what you're buying?
ReplyDeleteThe shipping costs are JCrew ARE high.
Took the advice of many a JCA reader and hit BR on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteGreat deals, some beautiful stuff & decent prices on the new stuff.
J.crew... you're losing me to the competition with weak promos and crazy shipping costs
Try Boden instead. Promos are usually 20% off for new clients as well as return customers AND FREE SHIPPING and FREE RETURNS on any amount.
ReplyDeleteGot an e-mail for 30% off select Shirts and Tops.
ReplyDeleteOnline only
Who comes up with these amounts? It's like they pull them out of a hat. Nordstrom has free shipping if there are shoes in your order with code SHOES. Even sale shoes count!
ReplyDeleteI would almost rather have No Codes from JCrew than ones like this that are almost insulting!
ReplyDeleteI could see the cost for the next promo now, "An arm & a leg = Free Shipping."
ReplyDeleteBoy, does JCREW think we're that naive? I mean just because of the press with the Obamas? Come on, I love me some Barack and Michelle, but the economy isn't any better just yet. Is JCREW that out of touch with reality? Someone at corporate needs to watch the news and the competition!

ReplyDeleteWow JC SA needs to be consistent. I was able to get the online price match in store.
ReplyDeleteHere is the item #11701 for the suede Coralie flats. They were 29.99 at B&M this weekend.
I was surprised to see the minimum increase to $195. Just when we were *sort of* getting used to the $175 minimum. I wonder if they are trying to find out how far people will go.

This coupon is not enticing at all.

Prices are still too high to justify buying anything even with free shipping. :(
ReplyDeleteJCrew must have its head stuck in the sand. Wake up!!! Look around! With this economy you need to do more to get sales in your store.

ReplyDeletejcrew guy in Canada, how are the Sperry boots you ordered? Were they everything you hoped they would be? Your comments are appreciated.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the GAP and BR lately. Last week's friends and family 30% off was awesome. J. Crew needs to learn from them.
ReplyDeleteNot an exciting promo. Oh well. I have to share, please indulge me: I got my yellow Maggie jacket today from the 20% off sale and LOVE it.
